Question Perplexing: Netflix on China device and Global device - Xiaomi Mi Pad 5

Hi,
I have a Chinese device, flashed global and rooted. Netflix L1 plus HDR is enabled.
My friend has a global device, not rooted. But Netflix shows only L3, no HDR. But the device is L1 certified (checked with an app).
Any idea why that is? I accepted already before the purchase that I might only get L3 (so I am very happy ...). But how about the global device?

Device Regions

Hi xdaforum users,
I'm a newbie here so apologies in advance as I'm not into modding phones or have done rooting before, so my knowledge is limited. I am looking to get an overall understanding about getting a device from another region.
So currently I'm interested in the 7x and have a few questions in regards to the device as it is not released in my country, nor will it ever. Only Huawei is available and not its Honor brand in my country.
So here are the questions:
- If I can use it in my country, will I be able to receive OTA updates, security patches, etc even though I wont be in India and in another region?
- As the device is setup for India market, Google Play store be set by default to India region. How can it be changed to support my country upon first set up of the device?
- The Indian model is BND-L22 which was rebranded from the BND-AL10 version. Research online have some retailers selling a Global version of the phone which receives OTA updates, etc, now which model version of the 7x is this?
Thanks in advance for the knowledge sharing, it's much appreciated.
BND AL10C675 is the Indian variant.

If you are looking for budget midrange devices, Honor 7x is very good. However for a person interested in rooting and flashing custom roms, this phone is a strict NO NO as of now.
The main reasons are so many variants with different firmware which can brick if flashed on another variant (which I did on my honor7x and had to get motherboard replaced before service centre could flash original stock) and lack of stock roms on all the variants.
Lack of any service centre in your country is another disadvantage if you are into flashing etc.
Now coming to your questions:
1. The indian variant is not BND-L22 but BND-AL10C675 which currently has zero firmware support or downloads from honor although two OTAs have come so far. No faceunlock yet. Only gyroscope was enabled etc..
2. Google play store should work anywhere if you buy the Indian version. I guess the Chinese version lack playstore. Indianversion and International versions have it.
If you are into flashing roms etc. and would like to get a device from India, I would suggest two phones in similar price range which has plenty of ROMs to try and excellent hardware.
1. Oneplus X
2. Lenovo Zuk Z2 plus
I have personally used both and have flashed innumerable ROMS on both. In fact, the OnepusX stock firmware had a kernel issue, it randomly rebooted, which I could fix usinga boeffla kernel and AOSP rom.
Both come with topend snapdragon 800 series (801 and 820 respectively) and blazing speeds.
I gave away both (still near me, used by my brothers) and went to Honor only because of 18:9 aspect ratio. The fingerprint reader too is the fastest in Honor7x. Far accurate and faster than Mi A1.
Infact most the features we get only after rooting and custom rom are pre-built into the honor stock firmware. 90% of the bloatware that came can be uninstalled too like games etc.
You may ask then why I tried custom ROM on honor 7x, that's because I am an enthusiast. I love these developers who try to bring future into the present (For eg. last dec itself, I was using oreo 8.1 on oneplus X).
All the best!:good:
Thanks for response, yes the Honor brand has caught my attention, more so over the others. Sorry to hear about your 7x, atleast its all working again
I e-mailed honor support and got this information in regards to some of the questions to get an idea. I'll summarize.
As quoted by Honor support in italics:
7X Model Version for India:
- Honor 7x >> Bond-L22B (32GB), Bond-L22C (64GB)
(I believe it says BND-AL10 on the box, what does your device box and phone say?)
OTA Updates: and Google Playstore:
- we are sorry to inform you that you will not get OTA software update of Indian devices in out of India
- you may contact to respective country support for information regarding load Google play store.
- we are unable to provide any software updates from India to South Africa and Google Play Store would be set on by default to India.
(Yes Playstore is international, however as above they say its set to India, then in my country I will not be able to get apps native to me. Is there any way of changing region on the playstore for my region?)
For me, I'd prefer to keep the original firmware all be it of a region that the device will be kept up to date with, no matter where in the world I am as well the correct region playstore.
Thanks for the other suggestions of devices, however if I was to decide on another device it would have been the honor 9 lite. lol of which I would be left with the above questions still.

Hey Rom,
Any thoughts on the responses I received and pasted in the above thread from Honor India?
Thanks

Mate 20 X CN version with global rom?

Can this be done?... Because some vendors on Aliexpress are giving an option to have the global rom installed before they ship it out. I guess my question is, are they really installing the global rom, or just installing the google play store?
My guess is they would just install Google Play Store app.
Rebranding is nearly impossible and currently there is no established and supported procedure to rebrand the AL00 to L29.
I also saw that on Ali. Asked seller, not answered. Must be just play store (maybe some more Google apps to add, trivial). For 50usd, no sense...
Shame you can't rebrand. Anyone know the main reasons why?
i agree with the comments above, it might just be the google apps so people wont be shocked with all china stuff and no google.
rebranding needs the bootloader to be unlocked as i understood from the forum which cant happen now since huawie locked it
but would you actually buy a phone while then open it ? how would you know that its actually new and they only installed google for you ? o_o

Widevine L3 on Metro PCS Nord N100 on OSS 10.5.8

Can anyone else confirm if they have Widevine L1 on their Metro PCS N100
Mine has been L3 out of the box on OSS 10.5.8. I've tried factory reset and they even did a remote flash with customer support and its still L3. The incremental update to 10.5.9 didn't fix the issue either.
So right now it means no HD Netflix or Amazon Video. They are willing to let me mail it in for repair where they might install the certificate, but wanted to hear from anyone if they are on L1.
You can check status with the DRM info app from the play store.
Can anyone here confirm if they have Widevine L1 on any N100 even if it's not MetroPCS?

Question EEA TO GLOBAL

Hi. I recently purchased a POCO F3 on amazon version EEA RKHEUXM (NOT THE CHINESE VERSION). However, the seller had assured me that it was the Global MI version (RKHMIXM). WHICH IS NOT THE CASE.
However I would like to know if it is possible to change EEA to Version (GLOBAL MI) without unlocking the bootloader. I saw that some people did it with XiaoMiTool V2. Since I live in Brazil, it is more advantageous for me to have the Global version and not the EU global version.
I know it's impossible without unlocking the bootloader if it's Chinese version (again, not my case).
So does anyone know if it is possible to switch from eea to global without unlocking bootloader? And if I need to unlock, can I lock after putting the GLOBAL ROM (MI) WITHOUT HARDBRICK?
Sorry for the bad English.

This is so weird... I saw it right here on XDA. Some people can do it with XiaoMi Tool V2, while others don't, I'm confused... In that case then, when unlocking and flashing the global rom, can I lock the bootloader normally?
You cannot relock the bootloader on a region which was not originally installed on the device. Consequently, you have to unlock to flash any other version than your original.
Anyone who has tested from EAA rom to GLOBAL?

Would you have a step by step please?
Unlocking bootloader by exiting the EEA rom and installing the GLOBAL ROM and lock the bootloader again.
If possible. And why did the other user above say I can't lock the bootloader if it's not the original rom? as far as I know it's only when it's from the Chinese version to the global one, right?
I changed from EEA to ID (Indonesia) and locked the bootloader without issues. using MiFlash tool. To unlock, use Mi unlock tool....it will take aprox 7 days if u unlock it for the first time. But it's ur decision if u take the risk or not after all.

Its possible without unlocking the bootloader I just did it yesterday on my Poco X3 Pro, from 12.5.2.0 EEA to 12.5.5.0 Global. In the XiaomiToolV2 selecting official rom didnt work for me (told me that unlocking is requirement) but the option to use Local Miui Rom file in the tool worked and it flashed

Question CN model - 6GHz Wi-Fi 6E?

Does anyone know if the AI2201_A has 6GHz Wi-Fi radio soft or hard disabled?
In China, 6GHz has been reserved for cellular use only. So, they would never need 6GHz Wi-Fi. I had hoped that by having the WW ROM on it, this would restore 6GHz... but it seems more like the radio has been disabled at hardware level.
I'm hoping someone figures out how to re-enable it if it hasn't been burned off the board or something. From various analysis tools, the SoC is all there and the 6GHz radio should be too.
Otherwise, the differences only seem to be RAM and storage. I actually bought it to be my new DAP. I am not a gamer. I was just interested in aptX Lossless codec.
It will load the full WW ROM from asus.com but I suspect that OTA updates do not work. At least, I was not offered the October update when it shipped with July update. I was however able to manually load the full WW October 2022 downloaded from asus.com without using any special procedure. Just the official "place zip file at root level and reboot" and it worked as though it was a proper WW variant.
I suspect the seller has modified the phone at a pre-OS level (as I've read about online) to change the model code from CN to WW. As this hasn't re-enabled the 6GHz radio, I am hoping there is another modification that could be done to enable it. That's assuming it's just some flag somewhere that can be changed, as opposed to an actual cut that prevents the radio from ever working.
It works as it should. I would just like 6GHz Wi-Fi too but it's no big deal. T.I.A.
Have you got it torn down?
We are not sure if the CN version is having the 6G RF and Antenna... That's the key problem, they may just take it away in the CN version, since the GOV doesn't open 6GHz at all
I can’t now be sure it didn’t work. ASUS tech support revealed a mistake in the GT-AXE16000 firmware that failed to allow the Zenfone 9 EU model to see the 6GHz SSID. The current beta firmware for the router resolved the issue. I have since sold my ROG Phone 6 CN model, and can’t test it again.
I should have tried testing the ROG Phone 6 CN model with my Intel AX210 but I didn’t think of that at the time.
