Brought Nova Launcher but we love the Pixels stock launcher too much to default it. Is there any method/upcoming method for hiding it's icons? Root or nonroot welcome.

Just icons you wouldn't want to see/don't use. I'm referring to the hide launcher icons, like in Nova

If you press and hold an icon on the home screen to drag it, there's a "remove" option in the upper left. Drag the icon to that and it goes away. If you want it back, go to your apps drawer, press and hold and drag it back to the home screen.

I'd assume it's drawer icons of unused apps he wishes to hide not those on the home screen.
There's lawnchair that currently has alpha builds out for the Android 12 launcher.

Apart from having the ability to hide icons, you can install an icon pack. Keep in mind it's in alpha and they're still working on implementing new features and whatnot.
Works a lot better if rooted in conjunction with QuickSwitch.

True, my bad for the rough explanation!
Yep, with Nova, you can add/remove/customize completely at will. You now have so much power with Nova, you probably won't realize just what to do with it all until you happen to find out everything you can do. It's awesome!

Nova was my main launcher on the OP7T for the last 2 years, and while I know I've never used all the features I'd say I'm pretty proficient with it. I just prefer to use the Pixels default launcher honestly! Guess I'll be using Nova again tho, until someone cooks up icon hiding and customization

I would like to have the notification bar off the (top of the) screen so I can have a full screen. If I want to see it I would just touch the top and it would appear and drag down as usual to see notification bar. I do not want to change my launcher as I would rather modify that one feature only.
If anyone could direct me how to do this on my own or with an already available application I would be very grateful.
Im on stock (rooted) G2 Tmobile Rom.
Yo I know you said you didn't want to change your launcher BUT if your using LauncherPro like 90% of the rest of the android community give Go Launcher a shot, it has the almost the EXACT same features as LP but it also includes the ADW ability to set actions for swipe up and down on the home screen (not just the dock) so you can hide the bar and then set down swipe on the home screen to pull down notifications, that's what I do
I just use ADW Launcher, it works very well, i don't care to change launcher.
LOL you don't wanna change your Launcher hmm ur a tuff cookie guy. Joking but for real Launcher Pro is the Best well in my opinion.
I like adw, more customizability. You can do it on lots of launchers but as far as I know you can't do it outside of the launcher. What launcher are you using now? Stock?

I will not take sides, but adw ex have more options in settings than LP. and can I ask where you read that 90% of users use android LP?
Yea it seems that I needed to replace my rom to fix it as it was a rom based feature.. thank you for all your assistance.
I'm not going to ask which launcher or anything like that. I already have one in mind if I do decide to go that route.
What I want to know is if they are worth it or not? Do they slow the phone down at all? As it seems as an overlay to an overlay.
I see some, like nova, have a add-on for unread counts for messages and calls and things. Is this saying that without this add-on I won't have a count for missed messages or a notification at all?
Thanks you for the input
launchers
In comparison to the stock LG launcher you'll find you'll actually have a smother experience. Launchers like holo or nova are really light weight and have a smaller footprint in memory than the stock launcher. When you choose a new launcher as default the lg launcher is closed. Or at least resources are being prioritized to the default launcher. I'm a beginner when it comes to how android handles processes so maybe someone else can offer a better explanation. The addons for nova add unread counts to icons on homescreens, app drawer and folders. You'll still get all notifications through the status bar. Its just eye candy and extras you get for the paid version of the launcher.

Won't hurt to check out other launchers. If you dont like them simply uninstall and your back to where you were
ADW is old school and basic, I prefer that. Holo is decent so is Apex, but my go to is always Nova. They're all fun to play with.
It's worth it. I use Nova and it's faster and has more organization and customization options than stock LG or AOSP. Just the speed and being able to hide apps from the app drawer is worth it for me. For reference, Nova runs way faster on my Nexus 7 than the JB launcher.
lots of good options. Nova is a great one, but I like Apex and Holo.
To answer your question, if you don't install extensions, then you won't have the message count on the app icon, but that's all it does. I personally don't like it, so I have never installed it.
Honestly though, if you aren't a "power user" who likes to tinker with all of the options in the launcher, Apex, Holo and Nova are all very similar.
Can someone explain the dock as overlay option? Isn't the dock always visible on the home screen?

Default, the dock is basically an extra row of icons ON the desktop, that carries over from screen to screen.
Dock as overlay changes your dock to being a row of icons that is on a layer separate from your desktop. As an example, you can turn this on and turn on a slide up gesture to toggle dock, which would give you a kind of mini app drawer on top of the desktop. If you did not turn this on, toggling dock would bump your desktop icons up and down, as it would then be a part of the desktop and not be a layer on top of it.
If you long press on the dock icons it allows you to change the icon(stock launcher) with a poor assortment of choices. My questions is how can we add more and better ones.

Try some of the free icon packs in the Play Store, the reason I say free is I'm not sure they will work with the stock launcher. I'm using an alternative launcher and have change all of my icons.

In using a alternative launcher are you able to use the Knock On to turn the device on?

I got some PNG files with a transparent background and replaced the phone icon. Works just fine. I've got my eye out for some nice ones for all other icons. I wish there was a faster way to change them but I'm happy with being able to do it in the first place.

I have Nova launcher and the Knock On works, the Knock Off only works if you tap the notification bar - I think it's the same for 3rd party launchers, but I dunno for sure...

Sorry for the late reply as I been on vacation. Yes I can use the knock feature with an alternative launcher.
Anyone else not a big fan of the boring circular google icons on the Pixel?
How can I go back to the Marshmallow icons instead? I've searched the GPS and just find icons that you have to use with specific launchers. I don't want to change the stock Pixel launcher as I've grown to like it. Used to be a die hard Nova prime user on my Nexus 6.
Any recommendations for just swapping out the Google application icons to Marshmallow?

Hi K10 Community ?
I want to talk about "the best" launcher for our device
So if you have some idea post your HomeScreen
And let's talk about it
Google Pixel Launcher…
This is my HomeScreen
Nova Launcher
MinoS ROM 6.0.1 V1. NOVA LAUNCHER
This is my homescreen
And my app drawer
Yes, all used Launchers…
Seems like almost People are using Some Launchers, that I not used…
But after Pixel Launcher, I like Very Very Much Next Launcher, or Next Launcher 3D…

What is name of launcher, and name of widget app, is it stock one?
My homescreen. Pretty basic for now. As you can probably tell, I really like the pixel's frosted look.
Search bar is a custom KWGT widget. Pretty basic. I'd like to expand on it to have a drop down window with music controls and calendar, but I've been busy.
Phone and Messaging icons are from Whicons icon pack
Other icons are Retrorika icon pack
Launcher is Nova Launcher Prime
Rounded corners using Cornerfly....
Wallpaper changes with every unlock using Wallpaper Changer
What else...
Pie controls are from LMT Launcher, themed to match pixel style dock as best I could. Didn't spend too much time doing so, so it still looks clunky.
Hidden navbar by using adb shell to run
Code:
settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=*
Modified LGSystemUI.apk to hide clock in status bar.
Other status bar icons hidden using adb shell
Code:
settings put secure icon_blacklist bluetooth,alarm_clock,rotate,nfc
Umm... I think that's it. A ton of gestures with both Nova Launcher and LMT Launcher to open everything I use daily, as well as run tasker tasks, pull down notification screen, and lock screen.
Cool screeshots!! Here are mines.
Pic 1 -> Main Screen
Pic 2 -> Secondary Screen (possible widgets)
Pic 3 -> App Drawer
Pic 4 -> LockScreen
As I recently re-installed the system, specifically Android 6, I'm already testing it so I didn't focused on fully customize it for me yet. I just have all I need day by day on there.
JoeMoDo, I recommend to you to use the build.prop line (qemu.hw.mainkeys=1/0) to hide the navbar. Why? Using it insted of the shell command you use, you won't see remainder navbar on some apps, like stock camera, as other custom cams (Snap Camera), some games, etc.

I'm aware of the build.prop line, but prefer the immersive option. The only time I see the nav keys is when using the keyboard, and... I don't think any other time. Does not appear in camera. I prefer this option so the navbar can be swiped into view, and as a fallback in case the LMT service is killed (which hasn't happened, but I've experienced that on past devices).
I just reffered to that, sorry the misunderstanding.
You will solve the keyboard desappearing issue by doing that. And also I attached you 2 screenshots about what I was talking about before.

The widget is from XWidget
Is not with stock camera, stock camera hides buttons by itself. I forgot to mention that.
