If you want to drop the animations settings in developer options below the available .50 to .25 here are the commands. Please only do this if you know what you doing I'm not responsible for your mistakes! Do your research before applying these settings.....
Assuming you know what adb is and how to set it up below are the commands, if not give it a google as I will not post how to do it.
Check your device is connected
adb devices
To set scales to .25
adb shell
settings put global window_animation_scale 0.25
settings put global transition_animation_scale 0.25
settings put global animator_duration_scale 0.25
To Check what they are set to
settings get global window_animation_scale
settings get global transition_animation_scale
settings get global animator_duration_scale
These settings stay after a reboot but is not reflected in developer settings to put back to .50 or whatever change the .25 to what you want.

Can't you turn off animations completely on Pixels?
One of the first things I do is turn off animations completely on PCs and Androids. They do nothing except waste resources.

Yes you can in developer options but certain things just ain't right like when you turn them off and pull down the notification drawer it comes down so quick that you sometimes select a notification without meaning to unless you have lightening reflexes.

Not sure why they would do that...
Maybe only one of the Pixel animation settings needs to be partially delayed, the rest can be cut to zero and still avoid that behavior.
thanks for the info, just in case someone doesn't want to use the ADB way: I used the app Setedit to change the settings (this app needs the WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission set either via console or ADB, though )....

Possibly but I've always, for years set them all to .25 just my personal preference.
Does this still break fingerprint after the newest update? I haven't sideloaded it yet so I can't test

Not at all if anything makes it seem faster as the visual animations are reduced. I've side loaded the .37 update and fingerprint is working perfectly it always has done for me.

A lot of posts on XDA mentioned that turning off animation scaling or reducing it messed with the scanner. Just so anyone doing this is aware

I turned animation scale off day one and never had issues with my FP, except of course that it sometimes just sucked because Optical and well Google, but FP is fine since I sideloaded .037.
Looks good... might try it and see. Cheers

If you turn them all completely off, then things like the loading spinner, don't spin. Because of this, I turn them all off except Animator duration, which will fix this. I set it to the lowest setting, 0.01x -- if the custom ROM allows, otherwise I do the stock 0.50x. In the past I have used this adb command though to get it lower. Works nicely.

Interesting; it's integrated with features and hard to get around. I didn't expect this but can see the design logic. Be nice if they had some plugins to modify the UI without resorting to a 3rd party launcher.
The N10+'s notifications pull down comes down at whatever speed you pull it down. No false touches; you need to release the display before it becomes active. However if animations is active it's like waiting for the story to end... anoying.
I've also gone down to 0.25x but what's the lowest you can go without hitting zero?
I'm not entirely sure, try it!!! You can always change it back if it doesn't work. I'm sure I've read somewhere that they go down to 0.01
Setting to 0 has always had side effects......never do this

I always run like that. For giggles and kicks I'll try setting animation duration to .5
All animation waste resources and make a fast machine look woke goofy.
Update, no improvement at all. If fact it made it slightly slower. I experience no lag when I hit the recent nav button with no animation. With duration .5 active I can see the delay.

I found this tweak at anandtech. My SGS is now flying. It's amazing. Your SGS performance will at least double after setting no animation.
Turning off animation disables the fading effect when opening and closing apps.
Works on all SGS firmwares. It may not work if you are using the default TouchWiz home.
Cheers
To me this only seems to affect the settings windows, doesn't change the app draw fade, or homescreens. What else does it turn off?

WOW! This really does make a huge difference (didn't think it would),
Nice find.
This is true makes most things snappier. The animation reminds me of my old iphone anyway, don't wasn't that now do we! Its enough that samsung copied the design of the enclosure...

this works great on the interface make it feel really snappy.
It stops the fading effect of moving from one screen to another screen or pop ups. So, now you don't have to wait.
is the graphics driver at fault?
if the animations are not smooth and thats causing the delay, maybe the graphics driver is at fault.
This makes my phone well fast. Running doc's rom and ryan za's lag fix. Thanks man. I like the speed

Perhaps, as overlays/transparencies might not be working as intended, any app that uses any kind of transparency/overlay/fade over TouchWiz seems to go to hell.
To see this, checkout vizBattery, when the screen with the 2 select buttons pops up and its semi transparent if you have a live wallpaper going you can see the frame rate drop to 5 fps.
I still can't see any other windows that this turns effects off for??? What are you all on about
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It might be faster because it takes less cpu/gpu to use your phone but your cpu/gpu is not always on full charge so I think that it seems faster only because you don't have the animation delay that's all
It's the same as disabling all the fancy FX in win 7 ( or any other OS ), but I like my FX and I'm happy to wait the microsecond or two extra
I have always been bothered with the slow animation on the front screen. It is dead smooth in launcherpro. But disabling the animation do makes for a better experience.
Although zooming and scrolling in the app-drawer is dead slow still.
Is this really a Development section topic....?
This is nothing special or specific to the SGS. Same settings on my EVO 4G and Nexus One exist(ed), and have the same impact on the "feel" of the phone.
If you get Spare Parts you can speed it up, which has the same effect without destroying the prettiness.
Hey, this works really well. And I don't think it destroys the prettiness, windows open too fast for destroying it
These are one of the things I do everytime after flashing a new rom.
1) Disable animation
2) Change the Mobile networks to 'GSM Only' (We have no 3G yet in India on major n/w)
3) Brightness to Zero
4) Haptic Sensitivity to just a bare minimum
5) Date & Time to 12-hour format
6) USB Debugging - Enabled
7) Privacy - Use my Location
8) Wifi-Settings - Disable network notification
9) Disable SD Card notifications
10) Disable Power saving Mode
11) Set the APN & Login to Google!!
I wish there was a way to automate the above steps
What exactly does the powersaving mode do?
You could probably write a script for sl4a that adjusts many of those.

I was bumbed when I found out we didn't get a torch light quick toggle with the MM update so I was experimenting with Quickpanel Manager and was able to get the torch light added to the quick toggle.
You will need this app https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...CBswAA&usg=AFQjCNGIcV23vu9vHzYdI8LtOwFLToPCWQ[/url]
After installation you have to click on Edit. For some reason the app doesn't display the icons but it doesn't matter. Due to the toggle drawer only able to hold 16 icons you have to sacrifice one by removing the the name of the one you do not want. Then you have to type the word( ;TorchLight in the location you want it to show up because you cannot edit it's location as the icon will be blanked out in the Samsung Settings. Be careful because you can remove toggles at will. No need to reboot takes effect instantly once you press Save.
You can now enjoy your torch light without using an app or the widget!
Edit: Appears on 5.1.1 after a reboot toggles disappear. On 6.0.1 seems to be working fine. I was also able to add WiFi Hotspot, Mobile Data and Air View. All functioning and sticking after reboot.
Problem is it doesn't survive a reboot, and even when going back from Ultra Savings mode.

That is, in fact, odd. But it's okay, it's not like I reboot my phone every day. Besides, it only takes a about a minute or two to get your settings back.
Yeah, sorry bro.
One other thing that I was curious was if you placed it in your immediate 10 user toggles like I have mine and not down in the extended menu? Didn't know if that made a difference. Because when I had the original 16 it wouldn't let me add the torch light. So then I deleted Dormant Mode (do not disturb mode) and the torch light showed up. But when I went to move it in the settings menu I wasn't able to. So then I figured I would just place it where I wanted. I was able to add back the Dormant mode that I originally deleted on the end so now I have 17 toggles. Strange.....

That's MM right? Well, mine never did survive reboots, and it doesn't matter that much. I only reboot my phone like once every two weeks or so, and it doesn't take longer than two minutes to add the toggles back.
Install good lock from samsung.. If its not available in your region do what i did and google for it. It will give you a better looking notification bar plus a torch icon and some other useful toggles that are not available in stock
What about the latest Alpha? Do we get Torch Light and Mobile Data quick toggles as default?
If you guys using Nova launcher, You can make a shortcut on the screen for the light without any other app.
Quick question, I have seen a couple of places how to remove the white frames from around the icons.
Should be Settings > Display > Icon frames.
However in my new T-Mobile Note 7, that option is greyed out. I can't click on it to change the settings.
Has anyone else seen this? I would love some assistance.
Thanks in advance!

I think this option only works if you don't have a custom theme applied. If you switch back to the default theme, the option should be available again.
I've noticed the same thing using default thene.

Maybe just download a frameless icon pack you like.
Having this problem too. Wonder if it's got to do with the system update that got applied on the first day?
Same possibly here. I'm on T-Mobile with default theme. I would like to remove the frame.
I have only been able to change this setting whike in easy mode (which i don't like). It is greyed out for me in standard mode as well.
Ok, I figured it out. I'm using Nova Launcher and Sammy doesn't like that. I changed to touch wiz for my launcher and suddenly Icon frames are available to change.
I changed back to Nova again afterwards, and the change stuck, so it seems to be a reasonable workaround.
Let me know if this works for you.
I don't have a custom launcher but I do have a theme. I deactivated the theme and it worked. I guess the theme locked the borders on. Sucks.
Yeah so I don't think it's launcher specific but rather theme based. Once you apply a theme it seems to lock in whatever the icon choice was. So I went back to default theme (which opened up the option again), changed to icon only, and then applied my theme again. Now it's locked again, but as icon only.
I have no theme and stock launcher and it is still greyed out. Switched to easy mode, made the change and went back and all is well now.
Dave
Has anyone had any luck removing the frames and using the Google Now Launcher? I can turn it off in TouchWiz and Easy Mode, but as soon as I switch back to Google Now Launcher they come back and the option to turn them off becomes I unavailable.
I might not mind these damned circles if it was consistent, but it only affects about half the app icons and the other half are normal. It's crazy to look at...
Yeah it seems like the only way to get them to stay TRULY off is to use touchwiz, using the standard them.
I know everyone is saying you can switch to off, then go back to what you were on - and it is "locked in off". I agree that it looks this way in the settings.
However the icons clearly have the frames around them still.
I have stuck with touchwiz for how smooth it is, but I think I am going to give up on it.
Also, the only reason why I say its smooth is because my initial setup was with "good lock" (needed to download an apk for that as it doesn't show up in store) and google now launcher and stuff - but there was a decent amount of choppiness and also the battery was not performing to my expectations. So I did a factory reset (which some people say fixes stuff like this) and sure enough, things got better. Battery better, smoothness better. However I have stuck with normal touchwiz since then... been afraid to change it since everything seems better now lol.
I hear you.
I had to try several different icon themes but i found one (that i like) that doesn't leave borders on the rest of the icons. I think it's some sort of default setting that goes unchanged when custom themes are created.
Trial and error. Good thing the Samsung theme store has a preview option. It reduces a lot of hassle.

Same here. I ended up going back to TouchWiz mostly because I couldn't stand the weird frames on some of the icons. It's not as good as the Google Now launcher, but it's good enough.
I've been searching for this answer for weeks, finally I found it, nearly started to think my device was faulty.
My option is unavailable and I have stock Rom and launcher.
But this option was available but not anymore. Can't understand why???
DISCLAIMER: This guide was NOT made by me, I'm simply sharing this here because it's really useful IMO.
This is a guide made by reddit user turkcem421, on how to take advantage of this beautiful 18:9 aka 2:1 display.
Here's the link https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg6/comments/7bqy5r/guide_fullscreen_immersive_mode_with_gesture/
And some screenshots...
Very interesting, thank you. I was also looking for a way to do this after playing with a friend's iPhone X and realizing how outdated a navigation bar now feels.
I was on a different path. Instead of enabling immersive mode, my goal is to disable the soft keys entirely. This requires editing build.prop, which requires root, which I can't get on my H870DS. However it seems to be possible to edit it with adb as well, was going to try that next.
EDIT: file system is read-only, doesn't work with adb.
Also, there's an app called Pie Control that can provide gesture navigation controls and is very elegant IMHO. My goal is to use that as a replacement for soft keys.
Hi crabnebula,
Author of the reddit guide here. I actually tried the adb build.prop approach also! It was pretty tough to write it to the system successfully (as you noticed, there are a lot of weird things on the backend of the LG G6 compared to the Nexus phones that I am used to) but eventually I did manage to write it and chmod it by combining a lot of tricks I learned hereHowever it did not have any effect, i.e. the LG G6 ROM does not seem to care about what that line of build.prop says and just shows the buttons anyway. After that failure I ended up figuring out the solution that I put in the guide.
Pie controls looks nice too, I was considering it. There are two things I like about all-in-one gestures though that to my knowledge are not in the others (but I have not checked thoroughly)
1) all in one gestures includes both gesture controls and immersive mode in the same app, and the immersive mode also has a built-in fix to let the keyboard work (see my guide). I don't know another way to have immersive mode with a working keyboard, and it is also really handy that it's all one app, i.e. if for any reason the app crashes or is stopped then the nav bars also come back when the gesture controls stop working.
2) there is an 'alt-tab' functionality, comparable to double tapping on multitasking button. Very handy to do this with a single swipe. I didn't see any other apps that had this (but maybe I did not look hard enough)
@yilun thanks for posting the guide here!
Thank you! The UI looks so much better without the nav-bar and status bar there to interfere. ^^

Thank you for the reddit guide and the further information. I really appreciate that you took the time to share!
Guess I'll give up on the build.prop setting.
After playing with AIO Gestures a little more, I have to agree with you. The combination of features makes it more useful and I actually prefer the way it works when using both the bottom edge and corners to replace the 3 usual soft keys, instead of a pie menu.
The only issue I have is that the phone seems to drop out of immersive mode when returning to the launcher and certain apps, but it's a minor nuisance.
I'm hoping that in a next version of Android and/or in future OEM updates, they are going to introduce native gesture-based navigation, at least as an option. In the meantime, it's great to have an alternative that works without root. Thanks again!
I'm using something like this since 3 weeks. What I've did to get the immersive screen was all in adb code. What is causing the battery drain is Google apps that won't support 18:9 mode so you have to exclude them from immersive. You can still use youtube modded APK (18:9 support) and Chrome beta to get full screen.
The adb code is
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=apps,-com.android.chrome,-com.android.vending,-com.google.android.gm,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
I use aiog too.

You mean revert the whole process?
You can do it one by one manually, but I'd recommend just making a backup and factory resetting.
The other way is extremely time consuming and not very practical at all.

To disable glow go to "personalization" > "edge preference" and set "opacity" to 0%.

Indeed it does... I screwed up mixing the command with the immersion from aiog (which activated immersion for everything). Thanks again!

I'm using something like this since 3 weeks. What I've did to get the immersive screen was all in adb code. What is causing the battery drain is Google apps that won't support 18:9 mode so you have to exclude them from immersive. You can still use youtube modded APK (18:9 support) and Chrome beta to get full screen.
The adb code is
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=apps,-com.android.chrome,-com.android.vending,-com.google.android.gm,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
I use aiog too.

So if you force immersive this way, you still need to use AIOG with the special settings applied through adb in order for the keyboard to function in immersive mode, or do you only use AIOG for the actual gestures?

Just for gestures. There is no need of touching any setting for immersive on AIOG.
Can't believe how simple that all was. Only thing I couldn't do was the SVC for ls993. Literally no one has it, spend 25 min looking and 5 minutes going through the tutorial.
Only issue I know is that some apps have a very small black sliver on the bottom, is this due to not forcing long display through the SVC? Does anyone know the SVC for ls993???
Either way, the rest works 1000x better than I expected and the battery drain solutions are terrific.
Home screen looks super good too
I like to keep things snappy and always set all of the three animation settings to 0,5 from developer settings.I see that the animation speed is resetting to default after a while, then you have to change it back and forth to make it fast(0,5) again... Anyone else?
0,5 works for me fine.
The settings should not change by itself.
That said, why do you need to change these Settings in modern phones? They are too fast already, and animations actually look good.

Yes, but when you are used to the fast animation speeds and snappiness for many years, the normal animation speed looks and feels sooooo slooooww.
The actual setting keeps the same and won't change, but the animation becomes slower. When I tick the animation to anything else and back to 0,5 it is fast again... I notice it when pull down the notification menu.
Maybe a factory reset will fix it.

I too was using 0.5x. Then I asked the same question to myself and switched to default 1x. I'm now used to this default setting and it is quite good.
I've set it to 0.25 via SetEdit. jOnePlus Tools unfortunately can't be installed.
And I also have a feeling this setting doesn't survive long enough.

They are not, difference between 1.0 and 0.5 is a night and day.
Just going into developer menu and going back and seeing the sliding animation duration on 1.0 and on 0.5 feels like it is just slow on default settings.
As always, it is a matter of personal preference.

That was a setting to make your phone feel faster, snappier. Today's phones aren't slow or laggy like before. And the animations look good at the default setting.

No, this was and is setting to adjust various animations durations as per description.
The result is quicker, snappier or slower, more fluent feel in corelation to settings applied but as you point yourself, not for everyone this option is needed.
For you its quick, for me the default animation length is slow and I prefer 0,5 multiplier.
And for everyone else it is a personal choice whichever option suits them best.

I agree. Although I prefer 0.3x multiplier. 1x makes me impatient, particularly managing the notification tray when in a hurry.
Bro I also faced this issue a few weeks ago, no one faced this issue similar to me. Animations were getting reset to 1x after a while. I accidentally noticed - if pocket detection is enabled, and you try to unlock device with upper portion of the phone covered, you get "pocket detection" warning. That's when animations get reset, at least for me that was the trigger point. Check if you have the similar issue and disable pocket detection

Yep, this is it!
Thank you!
Thanks, i had exactly the same issue and its fixed now
I have the pocket detection enabled with 0.3x animations functioning even after reboots. Maybe something is going on with some of your software, guys.
