Has anyone got this working? This is really my main complaint with this device. Stereo is like so 1980s!
XBMC have DD/DTS passthrough.
I'm using xbmc. Is there a certain test version you use to get it to work?

I use the one from july 14th. The passthrough is enabled in settings when you select HDMI as output.
Settings - > System - > Audio - > HDMI as output and 5.1 (or more) as number of speakers.
And it actually works? It shows up on mine too, but nothing comes out. I don't recall which version I'm using. I'll check it out later and report back. Thanks.

I'm using this one http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds...ec63cd-adddroidlibstagefright-armeabi-v7a.apk
But I had it working also with other stagefright versions.

I tried the linked version as well as the latest nightly and test versions. None have worked with DTS for me. I even tried on receivers from 2 different brands. They both do the exact same thing and release this loud noise instead of any sound. Does your receiver actually say DTS on it when playing the files?
Someone got it working on their Onkyo. I've been watching stuff with DTS and DD 5.1 this way on my TX-SR606 for several weeks on XBMC (libstagefright nightly builds). I checked my speakers, it does work.
"Go into Settings > Hardware Setup > HDMI >
Turn Off HDMI Control RIHD
This will now show an option called Audio TV Out (This passes audio to the TV when you don't want to use your speakers)
Turn this on and Voila you now have DD/DTS on every video you play"
This is from the "DTS audio via XBMC possible?" thread on Ouyaforum_dot_com (I can't post links yet).
If that doesn't work on your receiver, there's another (annoying) way: Start playing movie file, turn off receiver, wait a couple of seconds, turn it back on. The DTS or DD audio should light up. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries for it to work. If you pause or stop and replay, you have to do that same power cycling again.

Ok just got mine to work. I have a Denon and changing my Audio out to TV only stopped any audio for me. What I did was have to go into input setting and change the decode from Auto to to DTS (which stopped the audio) then back to auto and it works for DD and DTS. Turning my receiver off and on and changing channels didn't work either for me.
I tried fast forwarding and once in a while it would kick back to the loud sound and I would have to change it back. Tomorrow I'll watch a whole movie without fast forwarding it and see if it does it randomly or just with occasional FF.
Thanks for the help.
Actually, leaving it on DTS mode works too if you're watching a DTS movie. I have no DD only option, so going back to auto seems to work best for me.
I'm just happy there's hope for this to work automatically in the future. Then I will finally be done with my HTPC! Yay!
Hello guys,
I have a big issue with HDMI passthrough on XBMC on my Ouya. May be (I hope) you can help me :fingers-crossed:
My install is a little bit strange : I have an old audio receiver with no HDMI connector So, I connect my HDMI devices on my TV (Sony KDL-V5500) and use optical output from my TV to my Audio receiver (passthrough) that will decode audio stream.
With all my devices (XBOX, Raspberry Pi and XBMC, Internet provider TV box), it works very well... My TV has sound, and if I want best quality, it is possible to start receiver (and decrease sound on TV).
With my Ouya, sound is not sound but noise... With DD or DTS sound it is the same thing. I tried to stop TV and restart it to reset audio hardware but no way.
An idea ? Is my TV not compliant with HDMI passthrough from my Ouya ?
Thank you for your help...
Guys, playing movies on my ouya was the main reason for me to get it.
I've managed to solve dts issue, but only partly.
Follow these steps:
1. Hookup ouya to amplituner
2. Hookup amplituner to tv
3. Turn everything on, and set hdmi source on amplituner to ouya
4. Make sure hdmi output is set in xbmc settings for sound on ouya and you selected 5.1 speaker config or better
5. Start playing dts movie in xbmc ( it must not be dts-ma hd)
6. You get static in your speakers
7. Turn of amplituner so it switches to pass through mode
8. Wait couple seconds
9. Power on amplituner, so it recreates hdmi handshake with ouya
10. Profit, you have valid hdmi session and dts plays nice
There are some drawbacks.
1. If you pause a movie you have to redo steps 7,8 and 9
2. It doesn't work for dts-ma hd sound
Can someone tell me if dts-ma hd doesn't work because android kernel doesn't support it or for some other reason ?
I googled it A LOT, and found only bits and pieces of information, some say it's android kernel limitation and some say it depends on app I'm using. Anyway I'd like to enjoy all types of sound in my movies.
Hi All,
I have a AFTV 4K box which has had an update yesterday to 5.0.2.2 to resolve issue with Dolby Digital, however, the problem I'm having seems to not have been resolved, even after factory resetting it after the update. There seems to be an issue with the volume that's outputted from the box in that it's very low. Even with Dolby Digital Plus set to off the volume is low. I have a Samsung smart TV and have the Fire TV connected via HDMI. I do not have any sound system or sound bar connected; just the standard TV speakers. The volume level range when I'm watching cable TV through Virgin Media, or a DVD through my Sony Blu-ray player is set between 8-12, however, with the Fire TV I have to crank it up to 35+ to get the same volume level. I have tried different HDMI cables and different HDMI ports on the TV but the issue still remains. I have this problem across different apps such as Kodi, BBC iPlayer etc. I've hard wired the box directly to my router and have good internet speed (100Mb).
Is anyone else from here having this issue, and do you have any suggestions? The volume issue is really annoying.
Thanks.
Is no one else on this form experiencing this issue? I see there has been a lot of views but no responses. I've contacted Amazon and they've passed on the issue to the engineering team.
For anyone checking this thread, I just had a call from Amazon support who confirmed that this is a known issue and is affecting a number of people. A future software update should resolve this, however, he's still waiting for the engineering team to provide him with an ETA of when this software will be released.
I am having the same issue. Thanks for the update
For those that may be following this thread I ithought I'd let you know that software update 5.0.3 has resolved the low volume issue for me. My box received the update earlier today.
Have a one, cube 1, pendant, and stick 4k. Main setup is an LG OLED 65, Onkyo RZ610, and 5.2.2 Atmos. Previous models of FireTV worked fine.
My Amazon review:
1. Audio and Video are out of sync.
2. Play stalls. It just pauses. Must press Play to restart.
3. Maddening to connect Logitech Harmony Ultimate remote via Bluetooth. Solution is to keep trying.
4. Will not show my Ring cams. Not a big deal but still broken.
5. CEC is a mess but always has been. Harmony does it much better. Lindy CEC-less filters are a must to kill errant signals.
6. Typical "blame the user customer support". 1st suggestion is a hard-reset as that seldom does anything but make you start over with the same issues.
Updates:
7. Keeps disconnecting from Harmony Hub.
8. Started locking up.
9. Latest absolutely weird behavior is HBO Now will not respond to Harmony's OK button. Something not right between Harmony, HBO, and Amazon. Have to swap the stick back in to troubleshoot this one.
10. Now opening in a small box in upper left corner of TV. Must restart.
11. Stalls in playback with Android TV (both Live and DVR), Netflix, and Showtime)
12. Latest update has made the stalling worse. Just "pauses" and needs a "play" push to restart.
Running 1gb fiber to Cat6 Ethernet, 65" LG OLED (best TV ever), and Onkyo RZ610 that together does Atmos (with real height speakers) and Vision. Harmony Ultimate with Hub is a must for integrated control.
Anyone else struggling? I'm giving up. Have a Shied Pro 2019 on the way.

Hi!
I have a TCL BeyondTV2 (C715) and a Harman Kardon AVR 171s, that has HDMI ARC capability. My brother who owned the system before used it without problem with a Sony Bravia TV (I don't know the exact model) through HDMI ARC. (I think he only had an issue that the AVR could not turn on with CEC only off, but I think he just misconfigured it)
Now I have the AVR and tried to use it with my TCL C715 through ARC, but with no luck. I have all CEC and everything set up, and it is works... for about 10 minutes, when the TV switches back to speakers, and TV remote stops to relay volume up and down controls to AVR. If I switch the input on the AVR from HDMI to something else and back, sometimes it comes back for another 5-10 minutes.
If I use the AVR with S/PDIF the audio is fine, but obviously I cannot control it with my TV remote so, I have to use 2 remotes and separately switch on everything. It is annoying
I recently updated the TV's system to V8-R851T02-LF1V715.000032, but it did not fixed the issue.
I think i have the latest update on the AVR.
Did someone encountered this problem? Does anybody have ideas how I could debug this? I did not find any related posts on the forum, but maybe I missed one. I have ADB set up, so if there is a way to get logs I would be happy to (I did not see anything with logcat, but maybe I used it incorrectly)
Any ideas appreciated!
