Hello everyone.
For the past 2 weeks, I have been having a very hard time receiving and making calls.
I currently live in the UK and have Lebara which I think uses Vodafone's network.
My phone shows that it has a 5G connection which I have not verified when it comes to data speeds but I have an internet connection and can receive/send text messages.
Assuming the issue originated from the ROM I was on Syberia Project android 11, don't remember the exact build number), I flashed the Pixel Extended ROM beta.
Link to the ROM (Thanks to the developers btw, it's a great ROM) [ROM][OFFICIAL] Pixel Extended ROM V4.0 Android 12 [alioth/aliothin][01.11.21]
After flashing the issues still persisted so I gambled and flashed the NON-HLOS.bin modem file from the original MIUI firmware in hopes that this would resolve the problem.
In addition I should mention that when I open my sim settings and try disabling the "Automatically select network" option, it says that it "Couldn't find networks. Try again.". I would also get this message before moving to android 12 on Syberia Project
At this point, I am running out of ideas and things to try to resolve the issue. I should point out that I dropped the phone from the height of around 1m on the carpet the other day but I don't think the drop was hard enough to crack any solder joints or damage the internals in any way.
After some searching, I found this app called Network Cell Info Lite which puts my reception at -110dBm. Even though a bit low when it comes to signal strength this should be more than enough to make calls.
Anyway, sorry for the long post but I have no idea why the phone behaves like that. Especially out of the blue and on 2 different roms.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hello again, any ideas on the issue guys and gals? I have run out of ideas/solutions. At this point, I am considering a hardware problem.
As a thumb rule, always flash to stock before trying to diagnose hardware problems as it could likely be a bug in the software. If problem persists in stock, RMA
Understood! Will try it the first chance I get. If that doesn't work it's back to Xiaomi.

A few people have been having the same issue as me with more recent AKU3.* ROMs, wherein the radio features (GSM/UMTS,GPRS etc) - cease to function. Symptoms include the connectivity icons becoming non-responsive to stylus-press, and phone calls starting, but no call being made (silence) - and calls refusing to end.
This has been driving me nuts, and just when I think a new ROM (CE or Radio) has solved it, it re-appears. I have been playing around with everything I can to either diagnose, or solve this problem, and this is what I have found:
The phone only locks up, when handover between GSM and UMTS has occurred several times. I use the Hutchison 3 network in .au, and the coverage in Sydney is a bit spotty - hence the frequent handover to 'Roaming', and back again. Now that I have disabled the GSM functionality (i.e. just use UMTS, in the 'band' menu in 'Phone' settings) - I haven't had a single phone lockup.
To the other people having this issue: does this pattern of use sound familiar? I.e. is your main carrier UMTS, roaming to GSM? I'd like some feedback to see if we can isolate this, or if this solution works for other people
Hey
Had this problem many times with all kind of roms.
Usually the icons would react to clicks, but internet wouldn't work and also calling.
When I would turn on flight mode, the right icon (your reception) would change and gets a little cross (telling its disabled). But the left one would still be stuck on G/U as connected. It would take a min or 2 before it finally updates to a little cross saying its disabled. Then I can disable flight mode again and the phone would work (most of the time)
I live around 70 km from my work and I drive back and fort every day. In the car my universal is in the charger and I have always live messenger connected and AS for email.
during this trip my reception is lost twice, besides that it switches a couple of times from Umts to Gprs.
I've updated my phone to 1.14 radio en helmi 3.5 aku rom. And have experienced a couple of times what you discribed. The 3G and G/U icons wouldn't react to the stylus and the phone seems to be stuck. The device itself still works. But I have to soft reset to get it going again.
So after reading your story I can say this scenario refers to my experience.
I'm gonna try your solution from off today and let you know
I have only GPRS here and this problem happens to me with all AKU3.x versions even with different radios (1.09 -> 1.14.10) ... I still believe it has nothing to do with ONLY hand-over ... I reverted back to AKU2 and it never happened since then
Same here....
I have similar experiences with UMTS and GSM handover issues. I observed that sticking to one band (in my case GSM since it is more prevalent than the other in countries I go to!) is the way to go. When in M1, I got dropped problematic calls and my SMS were delayed but when I stuck to GSM only then everything was back to normal. I have been trying out the new Radio Rom 1.14.10 with Helmi AKU3.5 for 3 days now and am not having handover issues! Could be the Radio Rom or the Rom itself but if it acts up again then I know what to do then! Hope this helps!!!
The problem is in rilgsm.dll file.
I can tell that it is solved in crossbow.

would replacing the file in the current aku3 roms with an older one fix it?
i myself dont have the problem but allot of 3.2 wizard testers do.
Good to know, that I'm not the only one with this problem. I have seen this behaviour in all ROMs, not just the AKU3 and can confirm that it iseems to be related to the switchover between UMTS and GSM.
It also only seems to happen only when you have the internet connection open, which will always be the case when you use push-mail.
I had similar problems with the MDA III, whish I used before. Maybe it will get fixed in Crossbow - but by then we'll likely all have new phones.
^^
My internet connection is also always active. I have now switched from AUTO network to WCDMA (umts).
Going to see if this helps. After that I'll try the GSM band to see if it makes a difference
But it's something my device always had problems with, so I guess it's ROM independent
I'd like to see if that rilgsm.dll can be re-used. Unfortunately, the coverage of UMTS in the area where I live is far too spotty to be comfortable with pinning the radio band to UMTS.
However, I'm interested in your thoughts.
I must say that I agree with biso007. This problem started to occur when I upgraded to AKU3 roms. Before, I was on AKU2 with the exact same radio rom (I didn't flash it!) and never had any issue. Combined with mamaichs comment that it is related to a DLL file, I would say that the problem is indeed not related to a radio-ROM but to the AKU ROM.
Just my 2 cents....
I had same problems with Radio lockups on my UNIVERSAL. I've tried different ROMs with no luck. BUT after changing my Radio rom back to latest from T-mobile (1.10.03) everything back to normal- all day driving with GPRS on - no lockups at all!!! 100% solution is..... use old radio rom.
Would not mind downgrading...
I have lockup issues as well... if this really helps, I will downgrade the Radio ROM without hesitation. Where can I find thsi Radio ROM; is it on the xda-dev FTP site?
Thanks,
-Ireneus
Hi All!
Yes, this issue is the most annoying among all other issues, and it makes UNI impossible to use as the phone for business communications.
I confirm that lockup issue existed on EACH radio version I used and on EVERY ROM version.
I don't think this issue is caused by the GSM Band switch or Internet connection active or anything else specific, because this lockup happend even on networks with no 3G at all and no internet connection active and also BT and WiFi off.
It happens when I start intensivelly use my UNI for calls, sms, open contacts, view appointments (note: No 3-d party software at all).
I also mentioned that the issue happens more often with the battery level below 50% or so and almost rarelly happen on external power.
Another "good news" here is that if you receive an SMS during that intensive operations, you will permanently lose it after the phone lock up.
Thank you,
Dmitry.
I wonder is this is just a Universal issue? Or do other devices have the same issues; I mean as frequently as on the UNI.
If it is just the UNI than indeed it is useless as a phone and nothing more than a beeping, brick with a nice VGA screen. I basically fidn it hard to believe that this is the case and I would like to know if there is anyone out there, who does not have lock-up issues with the UNI and I would also like to know from the people who are testing Crossbow if the lock-ups still happen?
All input appreciated.

Hi
Just found this post in google code android, this is the issue I have had for 12 weeks, tried different roms 2.1/2.2 and radio's 5.x 04 08 20 and 4.05 and 6 had anyone managed to get to the bottom of it ?
Apparently if it drops the signal it does not search unless you go into aeroplane mode or pull the battery, then can work for 5 minutes or 10 hours before happening again, driving me mad.

I'm about to give up on android however I really love the phone HTC Desire with stock modaco froyo rom but on a basic level I need to make calls.
Thanks
Derek
Return it to your dealer and get a replacement.
It sounds like its handset specific. I haven't noticed it on mine, and I move in and out of bad reception all the time.
Let me guess.. is Orange your provider?
I'm on 02 don't think it's hardware as on google groups it happens to multiple handsets.
have you tried to clean a contacts of you sim card, on the bottom of it?
btw, how old is it? I've experienced same problem on Diamond due to it was quite old(7 years of using). I've asked my provider to change it for a new one, and that helped me to solve this issue.
Had the same problem, then i downloaded the app "2G-3G OnOff" and set the phone only to go on the 2g network and never had a problem since...
This is a know issue, although I think it may be specific to certain operators. I'm on Meteor Ireland and this issue has been discussed at length on their forums (http://forums.meteor.ie/index.php?showtopic=359) since the launch of the Hero v1.5.
Meteor were apparently working in conjunction with HTC on a solution but still nothing. I had the problem on vanilla 2.2 on my desire but as yet I don't think it's happened me on MCR r7, touch wood.
phone and sim are only 12 weeks old, I thought it might be a radio problem so I'm down to 5.x.04 and I'll let you know over the next couple of days
Also going to try another fix posted in xda:-
Another user posted this:
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Sellect phone information and scroll all the way down to the bottom
Select the set preffered network type and change to GSM auto (prl)
Hi everybody,
upgraded to ER3BUS XL3.6 and had a great experience so far. However, there is one observation I have so far, and may not be the ROM at all, just wondering if somebody else came across it.
Occasionally, while having 5 bars reception the mobile network does not seem to work. Sometimes it indicates 'G' (GPRS only I believe) so I expect slow network, but it does not seem to work at all. Other times there is no mobile network indicator, so I though the carrier had an issue, however restarting the phone seems to fix it, ie the indicator shows G/E/3G after the restart, same location at my desk at work. This leads me to believe, that something in the phone/ROM stops.
As I said, just a suspicion, no proof, don't know where to look to find out. Does not happen all that often (once/twice a day).
Any suggestion in where to find relevant log files to look through AND WHAT to look for appreciated. I am a WINDOWS man (there, I have said it ), trying to get into Android .
Thanks

Hi everyone,
I've search for this problem and couldn't find any satisfactory answers on the forum for this specific handset.
I'm having this problem with a newly acquired second hand handset. I have full signal on some places and nothing on others, unfortunately in my house I have no signal! So it's quite exasperating. I get indistinctly the "no service" and the "emergency calls only" messages, sometimes it would hold on "registering on network" for minutes until it says "can't connect to this network now, try again later" and I could repeat forever this same process.
Would it help if I flash a separate modem file through Odin? In that case, which one should I flash?
Is it a hardware problem with the antenna? The previous owner didn't have this issues, or so she says, but I do believe her.
What else can I do?!
My baseband version is I9195XXUCNE6
Android version is 5.0.2 with 3.4.0-cyanogenmod-g92aec50 [email protected] #1 kernel
Cyanogenmod version is 12-20150306-UNOFFICIAL-serranoltexx
Any help would be appreciated a lot.
Thanks
Try to flash another modem like cnh5 or cnf7. If that does not help then its better to go to samsung service.

I have damn sure that it's hardware problem . I have that issue earlier. I have flashed some modem but it won't help. So then i decided to go into customer care and they changed my main board at last get rid of my signal problem.
Thanks a lot for the replies guys
I'll try to flash those modems and see if it helps. Unfortunately the phone is not under warranty as I bought it second hand
I happen to have another mainboard as I bought this phone before on eBay but it was reported lost or stolen (scammed I was). The one I bought last (the one that HAS signal in some places and not on others) had the screen broken so I used the screen from the 1st phone and the board from the 2nd. Again, it WORKS in some areas so this board is good in theory.
Any other ideas? Is there a way to know whether is the antenna, other physical part of the phone or just the firmware? I'm going nuts with this!!
Thanks again for the replies guys, much appreciated
Hi guys. I'm full, i can't resist more. I bought the Sm-n920a from aliexpress, but was such a bad refurbished one, with camera over saturated, fake s pen, battery wasted (discharges in 6 hours completely even without use), and most of all, LOW RECEPTION. This problem is the worst, becouse i'm everytime out of signal, doing network search every time i enter in a building, or when i'm in a poor 4g zone. There's nothing else of 4g in this note, 4g and 4glte are the 2 only networks and they are not fast as on another phone i used to test.
There's no possibility to return it back, it's a long story, so forgot this.
Now, if i change MANUALLY all the pieces, can return "Normal"? even if the system is **** as hell...
If i change the coaxial antennas, my signal will improve? What i need to change in the hardware for better reception?
Please answer soon.. i need help.
First I'm sorry to hear that you were suckered into buying an AT&T phone. The demand on the battery by bloatware is so incredibly high that unless the user is very proactive in disabling it all it will wear hard on the Lithium battery.
(They don't like being hot or pulled from hard for a long time. If you mix those two items you get rapid cell death)
Before the person sold you the phone it is very likley they tried to root it, or flash a custom rom. After lots of flashing to a device sometimes we have to flash it twice in a row with the official firmware. Have you tried flashing it twice in a row? Before you do anything I want to warn you that if you upgrade firmware you can't go back in most cases. This is a little confusing and it is a lot easier if you tell me what "baseband version" you are at. You can find this under DEVICE|ABOUT "baseband". The safest move for you is to simply flash that same baseband again using Odin. (3.10.6, 3.10.7, 3.12.3, or the jester hack version)
Immediately stop AT&T Software update until you understand if that's something you want. You can do that in Developer Options | Running Services. (Or via adb shell if you turn on USB Debuggin and allow the computer) ... You can also remove it as a System app.
Note: After you change settings and disallow att update to change system settings you can then also reinstall AT&T Software update and unleverage it as a system app completely!! 1) Backup the app to apk using any tool that does this. 2) copy that file to your pc 3) adb shell pm install -rts wssyncmldm.apk "or whatever the name of the apk ends up being for you:
I hope you guys can help me I bought a new leftover samsung galaxy note 5 SM-N920A unlocked sealed new in the box and the signal is absolutely miserable. I either have 1 bar that fades in and out dropped calls to nothing emergency calls only. I have my old note 4 next to it with 3 to 4 bars 4glte. Any idea on settings that can be causing this, I have done a factory reset with no apps and changed nothing in case you want to know baseband is N920AUCU5ARA1, version 7.0 Android
Thanks for any help
