Question weird charging - Google Pixel 6 Pro

I have a question regarding charging.
My p6p is 80% and connected to the original charger. It showed "adaptive charging (I think) stating that the device will be fully charged by 7:15 am (interesting, it's my alarm then). I unplugged it and plugged it in again, now it shows fully charged in 58 minutes. I'm confused. Can anyone explain it please? Am I doing something wrong, like not plugging properly? I do not want to leave my phone to charge overnight because I'm simply too lazy and the socket is way too far from my bad. I would rather have it charged fully before I would go to bed. And does the alarm time matters here or it's just a coincidence?

Alarm matters, as does the adaptive charging setting in the battery settings page

Turn off Adaptive Charging (Settings > Battery > Adaptive preferences).
Adaptive charging reduces battery wear by charging your battery slower & reaching 100% charge just before your alarm goes off, but if your turn this off (or disable your alarm), it will charge normally.

The adaptive charging is bogus, by the way. I tried it out many times, and if I for example go to bed at 22:00 and set the timer to wake up at 0700, the phone will already be at 100% if I look at it at 0300. And yes, adaptive charging is present. Never worked properly & as advertised for me. Only good on paper.

It's very adaptive. It knew you were going to be looking at the phone at 0300!

Glad I saw this thread, I couldn’t understand why my phone was taking forever to charge literally 8hrs. Had this darn adaptive charging on.

Adaptive charging is designed to only run at night, and it looks at your timers that you have set to wake up (at least in theory).
For you it also ran when using it "during the day"?
That sounds like more of a bug than a feature.

Yes it was during daytime.
looks like a return in that case.

There is another thread with a couple of others having Whatsapp restoring issue, they might have sorted it.
I would toggle the adaptive settings and see if you still get the same behaviour

Do you have - by chance - the new Whatsapp Beta enabled that gives you access to your stuff on 4 devices without needing your phone?

I also think the estimated time to 100% is wrong. I will test it by setting a timer tonight. But it will 1hr to 100 but it didn't feel like a hr

Nope. Totally wrong. Said 1hr 25min to full, but actually took 59 min..

I think I have beta version on mine.
Didn’t realise you could have acces on 4 devices how is that done?

I think there’s serious issue with my phone battery charging it doesn’t charge been on charge all night and still not fullly charged!

You charge via cable or wireless charging pad?
Sometimes you need to move the phone a bit on a charging pad until it starts charging (aligning it to speak). Maybe you made a mistake there (if you use that)?
Regarding the 4 devices - Whatsapp offers you that if you want to add a PC via QR Code (if you are enrolled in the Beta).

At this point I'd say either try factory reset or ask Google to send you a replacement device, if you have deactivated adaptive charging, it should charge with no problems at night. Of course it could be the cable/charger at fault, but considering that you have used it on other devices (I guess?) that shouldn't be the/only problem (is that a Huawei Charger that supports PD? (Power delivery). And does the cable support PD?

I have been facing constant battery drain for sometime now. Even while charging, battery keeps on draining without much of heavy use.
Plus it may sound weird, but this constant drain is not continuous for days. Some days battery works fine, but some days it just won't charge. For example, last night i kept my phone on charging, but in the morning battery was around 75% charged instead of 100% (charge time was around 7-8 hours)
I am using original charger supplied to me by this phone and the phone itself is unrooted/ stock rom.

Your battery sounds like it sucks.
I am using a method on my phone that shows me (about) how many mA is going in and out of the battery. An App called CoolTool amazingly loaded and complex app, which can do an overlay. I use this app for only One visual overlay, the mA display. (current)
I wont tell you how to set it up, because you will find it. I will tell you it shows how much power is being sucked up, and the reverse shows negative numbers when being charged , at least when being charged faster than it discharges. Set it to update every 30seconds, not a great update rate , but given enough time you can see what is going on. There is another program called "current widget" capable of faster updates, but does not do overlay (cause its a widget), It will work to show power on this here lg too, but i do not find it as usefull, and high update rates could take a bit more battery.
Speaking of charging faster than discharging, turn on the wifi and the screen and mabey some background garbage, then charge it up with either a lightweight wire (to much resistance) or a charger that does not have a good output. And it will use more power than you can put in So when charging on either of these apps that shows current, you eventually want to see actual Negative numbers like -1000 for a fast charge from the OEM charger.
So get a view going , and you can see what is happening. Not all the phones will show this current, and not very many programs do it, And with coolTool we also get to see it (overlay) when gaming, and watching movies. so it is a start to discovery. I have no affiliation with all these programs that i am ending up recommending, other than having been through google store hell for ages trying to find the right ones.
Thank you for the reply. Let me see if it helps
I appreciate your help, but i don't understand a word the app is trying to show me. I am currently using the app, and sometimes the charge goes up to 376mA down to -21mA while doing one time charge.
Is it normal? I don't have a spare charger to try it, but was using OEM charger. Stats i told was from the OEM itself.

So it probably is not your battery, it is probably the rate of charge.
This is a similar quantity that I will see when the "fast charge" is not going , there might even be a notification saying slow charge.
That happened to me 3 different ways.
1) when using a non-oem charger (including pc)
2) when using a different wire, the wires that did not work were either longer or weaker wiring.
3) just because fast charge did not kick in for some reason, disconnecting both sides and reconnecting worked.
I believe that the numbers your seeing , just like what i saw, are a 500mA type Charge rate, it is showing about 300mA (from the battery) when the phone (at least temporarily) is using about 800mA and the negative numbers (-21mA) when it is finnaly using less than the 500mA.
Turning the backlight down (a lot) and turning off ALL the other stuff that uses battery, can get the Use down to about 250mA , or turning it to screen off, where it should use very little.
Still without this fast charge, it isnt going to be a very happy experience, but it is possible to use.
Charger which i use
See the difference in charges and look at the time. (Note each time i took screenshot, i pulled the wall charger out of socket and put it back on. Shouldn't it be constant?)

That is the 1.2A charger, there is also a 1.8A charger.
I do not think that the cool tool has any averaging, it is just a single sample. So it would be all over the place as the use of the phone and charging changes, it will be More the same when the exact same things are done. the exact same screen lighting, the same ammount of cpu use etc for long times. So it can easily vary 500, or under much user control of the phone you can get it to stabalise with +-100 swings.
I have most all of the apps and background data, and Mobile data, and all that stuff under control. You also now have one more app (the cool tool itself) that will be using power. that is why i mentioned controlling it to only 1 thing.
So it is all very normal to see such changes in the sampling, I spent a lot of time getting samples, to get a feel for everything. I dont write them down, but I know what gets it to change now, some things more than others. (some I can do without
You should still be able to shut off most of your apps temporarily and turn off unnessisary I/O and features, lower the light, and wait , and wait to see how the charge is working.
Yep i have already tried and done from past weeks. Some days it just works fine, but other days, it just sucks. I mean looking at your phone with battery going down exponentially in front of your own eyes and you out at office.
But yes, I'll try a 1.8A charger in a few days. will get back to you then

SM-T320 slow charging

Hi guys, anybody has an idea why is my SM-T320 is changing that slow. It almost cannot reach 100% even if I keep it 13hrs or more on the charger. Reboot doesn't help, maybe if I switch it off is a little bit faster, but not so sure.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
Yeah sometime it happens with this device my best advise is don't try force charging it (leaving it plugged in), it will only make it worse and damage / overheat the batt..
Do this instead leave it at the current charge and use the tablet until the battery is down to about 10-15% then reboot the tablet, see if the percent changes as this forces the tablet to re-evaluate the battery, then fully shut down press the power button down for 5 - 10 seconds and choose power off.
plug the tablet into the samsung charger (don't use unofficial chargers/ cables if possible), it should reach 100% now.
some other things I have tried that can help
I have a cable that monitors the amperes and sometimes I notice the tablet doesn't request enough feed from the charger (it starts trickling at like 100mA) usually when its almost nearly charged,
so sometimes if you force keep the screen on with moderate or full brightness, and power saver turned off while charging this causes the charger to send more current and you will notice it will say 100% a lot faster, so that is another thing you can try.
As a last resort you can re-seat the battery but I would only suggest that in extreme cases.
[email protected] , thanks. Last night exactly at midnight i put it on the charger, it was on 50% like. After 7 hours it was 95% . I rebooted it and after 3 minutes it was 100%.

I was having the same problem, changing the usb cable did the trick...
I tried with my i9505 charger which is the same but again the same issue. Actually for example when reaches 30% it stops you have to reboot the device to continue chargin. Sometimes but not very often it charges normally.
Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
Yeah it's very picky sometimes I wonder if it's temperature related, mine was never as bad as yours but I have seen it stop at around 95% a few times, I have an amper cable and it reads like 100mA - 50mA (in standby, 0mA - 10mA if wifi is off), sometimes unpluging the charger and re-pluging it in gets it going again.
You could try to fully shut the tablet down, and keep it off for 24hours - let everything kindof reset and discharge (like if it was exposed to ESD) , shame samsung didn't include a reset button since that would be like pulling the battery.
You might have the same battery problems many of us have, check the link in my signature on how to fix it.
I had that problem too.
Tried drain the battery end then it would sometimes charge to full but after 1 or 2 charging cycles the problem re-occured again.
Reseating the battery was the solution for me. After i have done that the problem never occured again. ( 8 months ago )
I believe it's somehow related with the smartcase. You guys have smartcases?

No, dont use any case.
I dont believe it is heat related. The onlu thing i did was disconnect the battery and reconnect. After i have done that it was like i had an new battery.
No problems with charging anymore and a little bit more stamina.
Dont know why, but many of us had this problem and this seems to fix that "bug".
I use an amp cable (shows the current flow), if the reading is less then 1880mA (at 50% or less) then I unplug the charger and cable use the tablet alittle more then re-plug it in - hasn't failed me yet
I think I found a solution :
Leave the device to complete discharge until it switch off by it self. Then put the charger but don't switch it on. Let it charges to 100%. I did that 3 times. Now I successfully charged it to 100% 2 times without switch it of.
The reason why I am looking for that kind of solution is because I have warranty, but Samsung will keep it for like 2-4 weeks.

Actually when you have disconnect and connect battery, the battery connector doesn't make good contact with pins of the black battery connector on main board.
The fix is very simple, push the clips of battery cable closer

Quick charge problem?

Guys, just quick question. Today morning I plug my phone to the original charger (phone was totally discharged (switched off)) and after boot it said me "Quick Charging, fully charged after 3 hours". Bloody hell, is it any type of joke? I thought that quick charging feature is about quick charging, isn't it? Next problem which I have last time (the day before yesterday probably) was that phone told me "fully charged after 1 hour and 20 minutes" but it took almost 2 hours. I use original nexus charger.
Has anyone the some experience with this type of "fast" charging?
Thanks in advance.
My phone charges slowly only when i use it plugged in to the wall...Make sure the slow charge is a software issue and not a hardware, try to calibrate the battery and if it doesn't work try to flash the stock google images (do a backup before flashing),finally, send as a screenshot of your battery stats while charging to see how bad your device charging rates are!...

If your screen is on or the battery is warm, it will charge much slower.
I suggest you leave the screen turned off and let it charge, and check back in 30minutes to see if the charge time has updated to reflect a faster charging rate.
Should charge perfectly fine if you have the screen off and don't use it. I regularly go 15% to 90% in 60 minutes.

It's cause you started at near 40%. All fast charging has basically three levels that tapers from fastest to slowest. Basically in simplest terms it's 0-40% full fast charging, 40-80% regular charging, 80-100% slowest. There's actual numbers with mAh readings for exact details but no need for that. It does this for temperature control. It's also why a lot of fast charging tech advertise 0-80% times. That last 20%, especially 90-100%, is way slower than any other part. So to get the most of fast charging it's actually best to use your phone down to a low reading like 15-20%. As you can see, you end up wasting time trying to charge like you did compared to my screenshots. Essentially you're able to use you phone longer and yet be plugged in for a short period.

Mathematically that is correct, but for longer battery life expectancy (over time), they suggest you charge 50-90% even though it is less efficient in terms of amount of time spent charging.
So I tested charging for one hour starting at 40% and it actually did a little better than what you're getting. Went 40-93% in 60 minutes.
I still suggest starting around 15-20% though because as you can see, 60 minutes of uninterrupted charging gets you to 90% whether starting at 15% or 40%.

Guys, thanks for your effort. I will be trying to find the best way of charging. Even though energy efficient could by better in Google's Nexus I think. I have problem to stay charged 24 hour in a row. Maybe the reason is that I did just maybe 10 charging cycles and the battery is still to new and is still formatting, who knows.

Yeah if you check the battery life thread you'll see people getting various hours of battery usage. Personally, I'm always topping off when I get home from work for about 30 minutes or so (I always shower when I get home) and end with plugging in while sleeping.

in my experience, everytime I had trouble with fast charging (Zenfone and Nexus 5x) was a matter of faulty cable. try to replace your old one. in most cases, processors are kinda super sensitive about the "health" of the cable and won't let the magic happen it's happening to me in these days with my QC2.0 car adapter.

Charging sound does not work

I can't seem to get the phone to make the charging sound when I plug it in and when I unplug it. I did make sure to turn it on in the settings. My USB C adapter that attaches to the micro USB comes off quite often while driving and I would not hear a sound to tell me that it stopped charging. Any help would be appreciated.

Same here! I have confirmed the settings are enabled and correct, but no matter how many time I plug and/or unplug my device, I get no sound notification. Strange...
The charge sound thing hasn't worked for me even since owning the Nexus 6P. I don't really care for it honestly, but it feels like some of those sounds are forgotten relics by Google.
Same here. It hasn't worked since day one. Not a deal breaker for me, but I kind of like hearing (knowing) that's it's plugged in correctly and charging.
Thanks for checking all. Not a deal breaker for me either, just a minor annoyance.

You know, mine doesn't either, but I didn't even notice because I'm so used to it from Nexus phones.
the charging sound is only for wireless charging, since the pixel/xl doesnt have wireless charging, you will never hear the sound.

Strange, before Pixel, I had a Nexus 6P and it was also a non-wireless charging device, but it made a sound every single time I plugged and unplugged my power source. I was hoping the Pixel would do the same thing - especially since I have enabled that option in settings....

typing this on a 6p, never has it made a noise when plugging it in/out. perhaps you had a third party app that caused it to do so. there is only one stock battery sound on the device, and it is called: WirelessChargingStarted.ogg

Yeah....you could be right...I used ResurrectionRemix ROM on the 6P. Maybe that's why it worked. Oh well....
Lame, why have the option to toggle if it's fort wireless only when the Pixel doesn't have wireless charging, doesn't make sense. Makes more sense it's broken. All my other phones make a tone when charge.
The charging sound option is for wireless charging only in the source code. I could link the commit that custom Roms use to add the sound back for wired also but that would take an effort ha and I'm tired. Think it's been that way since M.

am late to the party, but would like to add that for my Nexus 6 on stock 7.1.1, not only is the charging sound only for wireless and not wired charging, it is also only when the phone is on and unlocked - if screen is off/locked when I put it on the charger, no sound + no notification (but does charge; I rely on the light notification of my Qi charger)
Pixel XL 1 (2016) OS 10 update - no notifications, apps or charging
I had to clear caches in each app, and sometimes reinstall, to get notifications back. Some still do not work properly.
Charging sounds had to be turned back on in Settings \Sounds\Advanced.

Android 10 update seems to set all notifications and sounds to off except phone and text. Really poor debugging folks.
Also worried about the reports of the motherboards burning out on the Pixel 1s because of much more intense CPU usage.
Thinking the good thoughts.
I was able to fix this issue by using adb(read carefully) and typing the command .\ adb shell settings put global charging_started_sound /system/media/audio/ui/ChargingStarted.ogg. This command works because the same sound is used for wireless charging and normal charging. these sounds broke on android 10 because the system sounds that were located in /product/media/audio moved to /system/media/audio, but on some older pixel phones, the update did not change the file destination in which to look for said sounds. this command manually points android to the correct file. Hope this fixes it for you guys.

By the way, on a pixel, there is not a system sound for charging stopped, as far as i know. But if you hear otherwise, let me know

Question What's the ideal setup for ACC (Magisk or AccA)?

So I have been playing with Advanced Charging Controller for 1 week now and I am trying to find a good setup for it specifically for this phone. I have seen dev's recommendations on github (limit to 3920mV up to 60% and 4100mV up to 75%) but I wanted to know your opinions on this. Maybe add cooldowns too (stop charging for 1 minute to lower the temperature).
Personally I use ACCA (from Magisk "store") since ± 1year (on OnePlus 6 previously) in order to keep my battery in the healthiest shape.
My regular settings is to stop charging when reaching 80% and restart at 75%; but also to avoid to go lower than 20% and to use the fast charger provided in the box only exceptionally.

Why would you restart at 75%? You wouldn't really be advised to go over 75% let alone letting it restart charging at 75% (when you plug it overnight for example).

In fact, I recharge quasi exclusively during the night, and with 75%, I'm sure that, in the worst case, I start my day with 75% which is in general largely enough for my usage.
I hope it clarifies.
This being said, temperature is also very destructive for batteries, it's why I tuned ACCA to keep it below 45°C.
shutdown capacity 35%, cool down capacity 20% resume capacity 50%, pause capacity 55%
cool down temp 35°C
cool down ratio 20 10
cool down current 100
maximum current 400

I get what you mean. It sounds interesting but for my case I won't really sweat it for that extra 5% (recharging from 70 to 75%) because I don't really use it at work and it has like 0.5%/hour discharging rate overnight.

Do you have it plugged all the time? How isn't your battery dropping under 45%?

Phone had long time on standby. Didn't use phone much.
Charge when it drop below 50% and accessible to power.

Oh I see. This is probably too much Hussle for me. I guess I will try to use your other options (cool down and stuff).

Make sure you know what each parameter means and does.
You need to have a bit knowledge of physics.
The settings posted previously will significantly slow down the charging speed. It will stop charging at 55%. Phone will shutdown at 35%.
After configuration set, reboot to see the effect.

Wouldn't setting most of those settings from AccA work without rebooting?

The change of "current" need reboot to take effect.

Well yeah that's why I said most. Hopefully I can make the calculation so that I can let it go up to 75% since I don't want it just charging to 55%. Maybe trial and error will work for that I guess. If you have any insights on that feel free to help I guess. My ideal charge would be 25-75%.
Right now I have set a 750mah charging limit with 4100mV limit so that it finally reaches around 75% but I haven't really implemented any cooldowns at all. But, I am pretty sure the 4.1V cap makes the cooldown redundant. What do you think?

The charging indication will not change rapidly while cooldown.
You need some apps to observe the current change,
ampere app for example.
Personally did not set voltage limit, so those are blank.

Yeah I have been using Ampere to check the temps and V. I guess I will have to play with things. Thanks a lot man!

LMAO, that's calling taking battery health conservation to the extreme.
Live a little and use your phone...nothing lasts forever.

Well, recently always in front PC. Larger screen better. So phone stay mostly standby for phone calls.
That's the reason set that profile.
