Hopefully this will entice developers to buy the phone and develop more ROMs and kernels for it. $440 is really cheap and to me, it's like a flagship killer all over again.
Only difference is in LTE bands between global and China/Indian variants

also bought the China variant a week ago from a local seller, everything comes to around 490, dirt cheap for what it is

It looks to be even cheaper at $379 usd once you add the coupons. That is a hell of a deal.

If you buy this Asian variant, you might be missing out on boosted download speeds in various markets. Will it work, yes. Fastest speeds everywhere, no.

I read on Reddit that the Chinese version works fine on VZW as along as you have them provision it as a "non-CDMA" device on their network. I hope this is accurate because I have two of the 8GB/256GB CN variants in-bound to me in the US and I only use Verizon.

No, the correct provisioning is "CDMA-Less" and you also need to confirm you have "HD Voice" for the phone to work. Wouldn't hurt to also ask them to remove the "LVC-Block" that gets added automatically when they populate your IMEI number (for Video Calling).
The phones WILL technically work as they support the Band 4 subset... but you wont be able to benefit from any of the latest Band 66 coverage that Verizon has been adding over the recent year, most of which is to boost download speeds (B66 is unpaired/asymmetric, with more allocated to downlinks).
Take a look on this page. The Chinese variants are lacking Band 66... so they won't connect to VZW via AWS-3 Blocks G-J or anything on AWS-4.

Bottom line, yes, you will get a connection... you just won't get the best connection.
EDIT: On a good note, unlike any Pixels... you will be able to activate both nano SIMs on Verizon. The 7T, along with the 6T, are one of the few Android DSDS phones that are whitelisted on VZW's "Open Development" platform. After carrying 2 phones around for over 10 years... I now have both lines one one device. Joy!

New to one plus phones. I'm on verizon in the US but I'm unsure what phone to purchase. I want the 7t phone at the best price. I'm currently using a ancient galaxy s5 rooted/unlocked. Asked verizon about the oneplus and they wouldn't guarantee that it would work. they Really tried to push Samsung and pixel 4. I just want to ensure the oneplus I purchase will be compatible with verizon. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

No problem, happy to help. I've been on Verizon for 20+ and recently owned the 3 pixel xls.... I ordered the Pixel 4 XL then returned it. Bought the 7T direct from OnePlus and couldn't be happier. Newer tech, less annoyance... plus you save a LOT of $$.
When you get the phone, call VZW and ask for a Tier 2 tech. Then tell them you want add/remove the provisioning I listed in a previous post ^^^.

That's what I was wondering. The other variants seemed cheaper but I questioned it. Not sure what you mean by provisioning. I read the posts but it's all new to me. Also can I get the 7t with 256 or is it just the 8/128.

For the US version, you can only get the 8/128 on that page. There is "technically" a 256 US version that was in the works but the codename never made it out and it didn't go to market. Same as a Gold color for Asian markets...
So to clarify, here's all the 7T variants:
Global / International / Asian / Chinese - missing US bands, available as both 128 and 256 <--- DON'T GET THIS
US T-Mobile - available as 128, locked bootloader <--- DON'T GET THIS
US Unlocked - available as 128, unlocked bootloader <-- YES, GET THIS
Here's some clarification on the provisioning. Simple version is these are the features that are added and/or removed from your account based on your subscription choices and hardware support. Premium Visual Voicemail, for example, costs $2.99 per month. When you choose to add this to your phone, VZW "provisions" your account to add support for the feature. There's also provisioning that's required to support iOS devices... or LTE... or WiFi Calling, etc. So although the 7T has been whitelisted (link) and can be activated on VZW, some of the provisioning isn't automatic and you'll need a quick call to Tier 2 support to get all the phone features working.
Here's the steps. First, if you're moving from an iPhone... there's a small chance things can get hairy when/if you're planning to use Dual SIM (two discrete phone lines). If you are, let me know, I'll add some details. If you don't plan to activate two lines, then here's the easiest path coming from an iPhone:
1) turn off iMessage on your iPhone (very easy, google it).
2) not required... but if you can, it actually makes life easier if you first transfer your line to an old Android LTE device. This can be done online and doesn't cost anything. What this does is push some provisioning to your account that sticks around when you then activate the 7T. If you're already on Android, you can skip these two first steps.
3) then call VZW, ask for a Tier 2 tech to activate the 7T.
4) confirm "CDMA-Less" provisioning has been added.
5) confirm "HD Voice" provisioning has been added.
6) Optional... but you can also ask them to remove the "LVC-Block" provisioning that gets added automatically when they populate your IMEI number (for Video Calling).
All set. The only item that isn't working yet is Premium Visual Voicemail (transcribed to text). Visual Voicemail works. Also, if you know how to do it, you can activate RCS messaging.

You are awsome. Thanks for the info. I'm gun shy on this purchase. I've used galaxy s5 since it came out and know it inside and out. Will the 7t have the options for root/unlocked BL/TWRP and custom roms? Are there any accessories I need for this phone. Sorry about all my questions/apprehension. Think I'm going to do it.

Trust me, sounds like we've both been on the same path... I had the s5 long ago. Yes, this phone can be unlocked and you can install custom roms. Here's the kicker, unlike all of our previous phones, the OnePlus actually grew out of the custom ROM community. Their first phone, the OnePlus One shipped with the Cyanogen OS operating system pre-installed, a commercial variant of CyanogenMod. It's grown up a bit since then... and today it's on OxygenOS, which is pretty much a clean version of Android with some additional features added. Bottom line, this phone feels less-bloated and constricting than ANY of my previous Androids, including the Pixels and Nexus'. Everything is available and Oxygen OS adds some awesome features I've never before seen on a phone.
Once you are up and running, make sure to check these apps out... they'll help to keep you plugged in and backed up when updates go wild:

Quality and fit of both accessories was a HUGE surprise. I've never had such a high grade glass protector that feels like butter... in ALL my years. And the case has a sandstone texture to it that both looks awesome and helps with grip. Everything else is optional... but I also got a second Warp charger/cable (this is a proprietary charging protocol that is way faster than others). Everything else can be purchased elsewhere.

CAUTION!!! Just had my first experience with OnePlus After-sales Support via chat... HORRENDOUS! I was crazy enough to buy 2x of these screen protectors for $59.98 last month. Yesterday, my first cracked so I just opened the second package. I did all the right steps... after installing it, I noticed the top right corner wouldn't stick. Upon inspection, I could see that about 1x1.5cm of the corner was missing the sticker layer that adheres the glass to the phone. I won't walk through my experience step-by-step... but here's some high points. First rep, Lucy Francis, told me that I was supposed to notify them of the defect BEFORE opening the package (wow, that makes a lot of sense!?). She then continued to blame me for the defect and eventually disconnected the chat, dropping my connection. The second rep, Ethan Maximus, went back to the same flawed logic with "As per policy, the defect or damage should be reported within 72 hours of purchase." It took me 15 minutes to walk them through the fact that I bought TWO and that there's no way to discover the second was defective UNTIL IT WAS INSTALLED. Bottom line, considering the exceptional premium you pay for OnePlus accessories, I was expecting at-par support as minimum. This was excruciating!!! The reps are stuck on their scripts and do whatever they can to avoid ANY costs on their end. Never again, neither the phone, nor their accessories. This is easily the worst, most illogical support experience I've had in 15 years. My updated recommendation --> AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!

I have read that there is no difference between the China (HydrogenOS) vs the International (OxygenOS) variant, in terms of hardware. Does that mean putting OxygenOS on the Chinese variant will be able to use same network bands as the International variant?

Is purchasing a Pixel 2 XL in 2019 worth it? I had originally purchased this phone immediately upon release but then the news of the screen issues surfaced and I cancelled my order. I was purchasing one sight unseen and didn't want to get a device with issues. I went and looked at roughly 6 devices between Best Buy and Verizon, after cancelling my order, and they all exhibited pretty significant blue shift and each phone was slightly different. This made cancelling my order a smart thing in my opinion. Paying $900+ for a phone with a crappy screen isn't something I would ever consider. I bought the Galaxy S9+ instead and it's display is utterly astonishing, truly spectacular.
Now to the present, I have just purchased two Pixel 2 XLs, one a factory replacement and the other a lightly used unit. Paid $330 total and I thought that was an excellent deal. The interesting thing is that both these phones have screen that are significantly better than the ones I viewed nearly 2 years ago. They are for my parents as Christmas gifts and it's now got me thinking that maybe I should jump on one.
I found the below listing on eBay and was wonder if it seems legit. Says the devices are new. Should I take a shot at one you think?

It seems legit, and that's a good price, however, it appears to be a Verizon variant, which means you probably can't unlock the bootloader if you wanted to root it.

It's odd cause it says Verizon GSM Unlocked. Verizon isn't GSM it's CDMA and why would it also say Unlocked. I believe the seller is in Hong Kong so I think it just might be an English thing.

Basically means that it's carrier unlocked. The P2XL will work on GSM networks as well.

That's what I was thinking but the way the guy lists the heading is confusing. If you look at the item details it says AT&T, T-Mobile, Unlocked, Verizon. Would be easier if it just stated unlocked and works with all major US carriers. In any case I have asked the seller a direct question to confirm the fact it is unlocked. I am still rocking my S9+ which just updated to Android 10 and have been thrilled with it, but not having root and the ability to backup all my data is annoying. Even though the displays on the devices I just bought are way better than the initial XL releases, they still aren't as good as the S9+. Samsung simply makes the best displays. Hard to pass up $269 for a brand new factory Pixel 2 XL though. Unfortunately the Pixel 3 XL and Pixel 4 XL just don't do it for me, and the 4 XL isn't getting great reviews.

I hear ya on the Sammy displays! My wife's note 9 display is beautiful. Having said that, it still has stutters from time to time, lots of bloat, and no root. I absolutely love my rooted P4XL despite what the reviews say. Runs like a champ, and I get 2 day battery life because I'm a light user. I came from the P2XL, which I still keep as my backup. It was a great device for 2 years, and still works great. However, it feels really slow compared to my P4XL :good:

Did the P4XL go back to using Samsung displays? I know the P2XL used LG P-OLED. I just wish they wouldn't hadn't done away with the fingerprint biometric reader.
It's a tough choice to give up my S9+ and try out the P2XL. I've got used to the S9+ and the UI doesn't bother me, especially since I installed the Pixel 2 XL Launcher . The S9+ is snappy and beautiful, but not root capable, and that's a bummer. S9+ also has expandable memory, wireless charging, and headphone jack. Man it's a tough call, I've been kicking it around for days now. The money isn't the issue at all, it's the giving up the S9+ itself, I have enjoyed it. It's the best not rooted phone I have ever had, and I haven't had a single issue with it. In the end, I am still looking to switch to the Pixel platform, but definitely didn't like the P3XL and I'm still evaluating the P4XL. We'll see what the P5XL brings to the table.

Nope, Snapdragon version can't be rooted. It really does suck as Android still doesn't allow backup of all app data via Google drive backup. I should say that developers have disabled backup within their app, Google doesn't control it. So you're left completely setting up your new phone for the apps that don't allow Google drive backup. Samsung has a great app, Smart Switch, but it still suffers from app developers who have disabled app backup.

Unfortunately, I have tried this and any app that has ADB backup disabled will not backup. This is the same method the app Helium attempts to use and many apps won't backup because the developer has set ADB backup to disable.

Well ain't that a kick in the can! Guess that's why we like to root. At least for now, and until android becomes iOS 2.0, TiBu still works for user apps.

I went ahead and pulled the string on the eBay listing I posted. It's definitely a seller in Hong Kong so that worries me a bit. Luckily VISA or Mastercard are pretty good if you get scammed. Happened to me once on a purchase that was made out of China. The item I got was not as described and PayPal unfortunately wouldn't resolve it for some reason. Kind of irritated me that they wouldn't, but my VISA took care of it and performed a charge back no problems at all. If it comes and is perfect by all accounts, I'll let folks know it's legit. For that price you could get a fresh P2XL and rock on for years to come.

Yeah if I get the feeling that it's carrier locked, I'll send it back. No way I would go this route if root isn't possible. We will see I guess, hoping for the best.

This isn't correct. Verizon is both GSM and CDMA now, and as of January 1, 2020 they will be dropping support for CDMA completely.

Verizon isn't GSM. It's currently CDMA and LTE with 5G rolling out. That article simply states that old 3G and non-HD voice 4G will no longer be able to activate on Verizon's network. Verizon has never been GSM, to my knowledge. Soon there will be no such thing as GSM or CDMA, only 4G and 5G, and whatever comes after that.

Question Unlocked vs Verizon

I think I am reading it correctly that the unlocked model will not support Verizon mmwave but it should work fine with their other 5g services. I'm not near any of the large cities that use that anyway, so it is no big deal. I am tired of having a locked phone. I haven't kept up with everything in a few years. Can the bootloaders be unlocked and the device be rooted on the unlocked versions? Sorry it is a dumb question but I have been on Verizon Samsung phones for a few years.

We really don't know officially yet, since it has a new CPU chip set until we get our hands on it....
But, usually Google wouldn't block Unlocking the BL.

I'll let you know, I'm kind of perpetually stuck ordering from Verizon because I get so many device dollars from my Fios account. Not really too concerned about unlocking but I'll check for you.

That's impossible. There won't be a Google device that doesn't support mmWave sold in the US. As for bootloader unlockable as long as you don't get the Verizon model from Google you can unlock it. Not sure what 3rd party retailers are doing. Stepping a little out on a limb here but I'll stick by it unless proven otherwise.

From Google store: Unlocked Pixel is not compatible with millimeter wave (mmWave) networks. See g.co/pixel/networkinfo.
I don't understand. In the chart it says it does work.

on the google site there is an option for the verizon specific one. maybe they did that because verizon will only let their mmwave work on the pixel if it has a locked bootloader? wouldnt be out of the realm for verizon. the unlocked option on google site says works with the 3 major carriers.

No, that is not the case. Google sells the Verizon model for some reason unbeknownst to me but likely financial. Last year for the Pixel 5 they did the same thing. The Verizon model has different promos attached and you can buy it on your Verizon account without further credit checks and over a period of 24 months rolled into your monthly bill. But you cannot unlock the bootloader in that version, on the Fi and Unlocked version you can.
As for mmWave, every single Pixel device sold in the US is capable. Naturally it depends if your carrier supports it but if they do then you have it. The unlocked P6, or any P6 sold in the states will work on 8 carriers that support mmWave according to what I'm seeing. The locked bootloader on the Verizon device sold by Google is a horse of another color and has nothing to do with 5G capabilities. I am on Verizon but have bought the last 4 Pixels from Google and they all work as if I bought them directly from Verizon. Well... other than the fact I can bl unlock them and the 3a eSim fiasco on the VZW model.

I have read 5 websites including Google and mass confusion reigns. So I might be wrong and I might be right. Here's a link to the one that at least says no one knows wtf is going on. I still think all US versions will be mmWave capable but then there is the sub 5g and UWB thrown into the mix. What a mess. Suffice it to say I will never buy a Verizon branded device so they better sort this out before they ship.

Damn I pre-ordered from their website and bought the unlocked version. From my research, it looks like phones bought unlocked from Google will be blocked from using network specific mmWave. If this is the case, I am returning this ****. Really, Google just had to find a way to fudge up a good phone.

From what I understand:
All Pixel 6 Pro in the US support Sub6 + mmWave, (Whether a carrier allows access on unlocked models is unclear)
Regular Pixel 6 is Sub6 Only except for the Verizon variant which adds mmWave.
This has never been an issue on Unlocked Samsung models. Each variant has a different SKU and it'd be interesting to find out if it's a different modem entirely or just software optimizations.
My only concern with the Verizon version is that it may not be bootloader unlockable.

Think it depends on the carrier really. I know this is Samsung and not Google but my unlocked Note 20 Ultra 5G is able to use Verizon mmWave. I used it on Fremont Street in Vegas the speed was insane. I don't see why Verizon would block the Pixel 6 if other unlocked phones can use it but I guess these things can happen. In my case I don't really live anywhere near any mmWave areas so it doesn't matter to me as much if I can't use it.

Yeah it was an absolute **** show. I was fortunate and got a 512gb after literally 3 hours of non-stop trying. Hope they re-stock soon for you! I've never had issues like this the last few years pre-ordering Samsung devices.

The Verizon Pixel 6 Pro and Unlocked 6 Pro both listed the same supported bands, despite having a different SKU. When Google notes that the Pixel does not support mmWave, I think they're referring to the regular unlocked Pixel 6, not the Pro.

So... do I buy unlocked, which is what I prefer to do, even though I have not unlocked a bootloader in years, or do I buy Verizon, which I must use because of coverage where I live, to ensure compatibility 100%?

I am just getting the unlocked version. If it is an issue, I may either switch back to AT&T with my microcell (yes, I still have an AT&T microcell because wifi calling sucks) or sell the unlocked and get the Verizon. I used to be big into custom roms and unlocking bootloaders, but things are to the point where the need just is not there anymore on most phones. Except Samsung and all its bloatware. (sorry, I had to get that dig in!)

im unlocking BL .. as soon as the guide is available. then flash Verizon Factory Image. i should be good to go with (mmWave)
Pre ordered unlocked version.

I've been unlocking and modding my phones since the OG Droid. Originally I would flash ROMs all the time, but Android has evolved so much that now I just unlock for dark mode and ad blocking. Now that dark mode is baked in all I need is the ad blocking. I also want to use my banking apps and Google Pay. So, for the first time in many years, I ordered the Verizon model from Google. I'll see if it's unlockable. If it isn't, no big deal. If it is, I might, and I might not.
With the unlocked OnePlus 8 Pro, we never got native Wi-Fi calling working on Verizon, so I don't want to miss out on that again, or any data bands.
I'm amped for the 6 Pro. I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with it. My brother-in-law is one of the heads of Photoshop and AI at Adobe. I'm think he'll be interested in taking a peek at it.

I will be using Mint mobile (T-Mobile MVNO), but in the future there is a good chance I will change carriers to something else like AT&T, and I want to ensure compatibility. I am looking on eBay, and seeing tons of devices, many T-Mobile unlocked, or China unlocked, or North America unlocked, and I am just not sure which LE212X I should go for.
Does it even matter? I'd like to be running a custom ROM to avoid google and other spyware that might come from oneplus, I just don't know if certain variants are better/worse than others.
I come from Xiaomi where sometimes a phone for a different market has an entire different SoC.

The only one whitelisted for AT&T is the factory unlocked LE2125. T-Mobile isn't picky. I have an LE2115 (factory unlocked OnePlus 9) and it works perfectly on Tello (T-Mobile), AT&T, and Lexvor (Verizon).

I would recommend the LE2125, it's the North American unlocked variant which gets regular updates and you don't need to bug T-Mobile to get it to work on other carriers.

You're better off getting the 2125 anyway because the T-Mobile software is different and it's hugely behind the global variant plus getting the bootloader unlocked is a bit more of a hassle and converting the T-Mobile edition to global has presented issues for people.

A lot of the reason the T-Mobile variant is cheaper is precisely because of these kinds of issues.

OnePlus is my next best but so expensive. I would feel awful if I dropped it!

i got mine about 3 week ago (unlocked american version) and have tmobile prepaid (which by the way is higher priority than mint on the same towers) and immedietly rooted and put on crdroid. Im so happy after switching from a note 20 ultra that could not be rooted. COuldnt be happier actually. I just got mines from best buy and traded in my device. Whats funny is on the one plus site its people crying about software issues and unhappiness but I cant relate since i put it on a custom rom right out the box. its very smooth. I went with the 9pro over the 10 because its the low ram low space version. I like it better anyways i dont need clunky cameras

i just want to be able to update/sync my 500gb+ music library over mobile network whenever i want without worrying about going over. always happens in background so saving $20 a month for slow unlimited vs fast unlimited is perfect.

You should get AT&T Prepaid. Get an AT&T SIM card and find a group to join on r/gophonegroups and you can get Unlimited Max, which is true unlimited with a 22GB deprioritization threshold, for just $34 a month. 15GB is $24 and 5GB is $14. The only reason I still have Tello is because I only need a gig of data a month and it costs me $7 plus T-Mobile has the better network here now that they have midband 5G otherwise I would have AT&T Prepaid myself.

The thing is I want to get away from a network that whitelists IMEIs... I have AT&T right now and always have my whole life.
I just hate that I cannot use my Xiaomi devices with AT&T, so am looking into T-Mobile, but considering getting a OnePlus phone so i could have freedom to bounce around and try many different carriers.

Xiaomi is to blame for this. They intentionally don't put all the bands necessary for their phones to work right on US networks. T-Mobile has been starting to reject some Xiaomi devices as well for not having full band support. I would expect all three carriers to enforce whitelists by the end of this year once their respective 3G and 2G shutdowns have completed. The lack of band 71 absolutely cripples rural coverage and a lot of indoor and suburban coverage on T-Mobile and I just checked and even their new 12 series doesn't have it.

Yeah, unfortunately there aren't any xiaomi devices at all that support 71...
I guess its both companies making bad decisions. I should still be allowed to get ****ty service with my xiaomi on at&t if i want

Chinese version is not whitelisted for AT&T. If you SIM-swapped and it worked, that was temporary. Seriously, AT&T are being real jerks about it and have been disabling phones that are fully working with VoLTE based on an internal IMEI whitelist.

That's because you're on Straight Talk. That's not the same as being on AT&T. Full MVNOs like Straight Talk make their own rules (which is why a lot of H2o customers have been pissed off lately because their own whitelist is more restrictive than AT&T's and it's not published anywhere) and haven't all been on top of the shutdown. I would expect your phone to get the auto boot later this year though.

Has anyone upgraded to something better/worthwhile than the V30? I'm looking for ideas of something to use on Metro PCS/ Metro by T-Mobile.

I chose the S10 because it still had a headphone jack, which my wife and I did want to retain, at least for now. Next time, I think I could give that up, as it seems that's how things are going these days.
Mine is an SM-G975U1, which is the non-5G version. I didn't care about 5G, as I don't have it in my area anyway. Fact is, most places don't have true 5G, so who cares? There is an updated version of the S10 with 5G, so you'll have to see what you want.

Well I do want to keep a headphone jack, wireless charging, Water resistance rating, rooting I am not sure if I really need any more. I think Vanced youtube can work on non rooted devices so I may not need it. But with 5G coming out I figured if I upgrade I may as well get one that can do it.

Yes, all the hardware you need is on the S10 series (last Samsung series that keeps the headphone jack). Wireless charging is there, as is water resistance. AFAIK, no Samsung is rootable anymore (early S10 was, and Exynos CPU still are, but USA versions with Snapdragon are not, particularly if updated to current stock ROM versions). Blame the US carriers for this nonsense.
I have Vanced on my phone, and it works fine.
5G is currently really just marketing nonsense. Unless you're in a big city, you're not going to get "True" 5G with mmWave technology, because that signal just doesn't travel far. Without mmWave, you're stuck with Sub-6G frequencies, which are a little faster than LTE, but not a lot... so I don't think it's worth bothering yet, unless you can get it cheaply.
