Question You hear a noise when shaking the phone? - Google Pixel 6 Pro

If you hear noise when shaking the Pixel 6 Pro, it's normal. The noise is coming from the Telephoto Periscope zoom lens OIS. This happens on almost all the smartphone that uses this kind of camera lens for Telephoto.
The below video will play from the time stamp that talks about this one.
FYI... I have couple of Sony lenses for my A7 III. On those lenses I can feel something is moving when I shake the lens. Turns out this normal. This doesn't happen when the camera is turned on and I shake the lens.

It's apparently the telephoto lens and it is normal. I've just tried mine and the noise stops as soon as I open the camera and select 4x zoom level.

Good to know that its "normal" - I already talked to the Google support, made them a video about the noise (mine is pretty loud, louder than in the video for sure) and they now want to replace my device. Mh.

The front camera is the same sensor as the back camera on the Nexus 5 - and having both phones I can say right off the bat that both cameras on the OP3 smoke the hell out of the Nexus 5, there's just no competition. The front camera on the OP3 is subject to quite a bit of noise (more than you think) when it's not being post-processed by the camera app

Selfie quality

You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the OnePlus 3T performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
If light is very good, acceptable selfies. Indoors, even with good light, usually very blurry shots
Indoors, nothing but TV for light and taken straight from Allo
At low light in front of my monitor:
beautify mode of the cam/app is the best, makes my ugly face so sweet !
for real, its pretty decent (the front cam).
With 16mp front camera the photos look crisp and sharp. Nothing bad to say about it.
Seems fine with or without beauty mode it's almost same for me
absolutely amazing with the 16m front camera

I recently went on a trip with a selfie stick...front facing camera turned out to be pretty bad...they all turned out kind of like this one:

Some look better than others, but everything looks soft and out of focus...is this normal?

The front facing camera has fixed focus, made so that the subject is in focus when the phone is at arms length. this photo looks like it was taken with a selfie stick so you were not in focus.

Well that explains it...are you aware of any work around for this? I imagine the limitation is the software.

I believe that it it a hardware limitation, so I'm not sure how a software upgrade or any workaround might help significantly. Maybe you might want to try the back camera instead or use the front camera at arms length, or be somehow lucky to find a clip-on lens that can either increase the camera's field while somehow still keeping the correct focus distance or a clip-on lens that will correct the focus when the device is on the selfie stick.
Good!
The front camera is really good. Clean and bright selfies. Love it.
Amazing, outstanding camera quality...
Such a awesome phone. It have best camera that is very useful for taking high resolution selfies.
low light sux
Well lit ok
Camera driver
How to develop camera driver? What are the things one should know for device driver development?

camera takes unusable pictures. but excellent macro images

I am facing an unusualy issue which has cropped up suddenly.
I am not able to use the rear camera of the moto z play for anything as all images are extremely blurry as if an opaque cover is kept in front of it. But If I use the camera from a 1 inch or lesser distance, the clarity is superb as if its only meant for macro shots.
This issue is not happening with the front camera but only the rear camera.
Please help.

Sounds like hardware problem
Do you have a warranty?

Seems like problem with laser focus, check if manual focus is working or not.
If it's working then maybe it's the laser module that's giving trouble.
PS: check if the lens is clear and there's no dust inside.
Hi,
I changed my battery yesterday and my camera is behaving the same way. Manual focus does not work.
I had to apply a lot of heat to open the screen and also on the back, to loosen the old battery. Could it have damaged the rear camera?
If I replace the camera module, the laser sensor will be replaced too?
I also lost the finger print sensor, but maybe that's because I lost the lever of the zif connector.
OP, did you have some heat on your phone too?

weird sound when hitting the back

Weird sound when hitting the back, specifically around the camera this sound is generated, someone else happens to this
Yes, the camera has optical image stabilisation (OIS). This allows camera to physically move. When you tap the phone you will hear the camera moving. This is normal.

No, this phone is only have EIS. OIS is too expensive to be implemented into this phone.
And yes, I also experience this weird noise when there's a bump on the top back cover. Don't know what cause this though
Perhaps the vibration motor? I have the same sound.

Oh ok. I saw a teardown video and the camera did move in it's socket when it was touched. So I still think it's the camera shaking that is making that noise.
All previous phones that i've owned had OIS, and they made the exact same faint 'tick' sound near the camera when phone was bumped.
But i guess it could also be the vibration motor, since it's close by the cameras.
It can't be OIS, can it? I don't notice any stabilization in photo mode and in video mode the stabilization feels like that of EIS

Question Is there any moving parts in the cameras?

Hi! When I'm switching between cameras modes I can hear and feel a little noise and vibration, Anyone knows if are they part of the UI or the cameras have some moving parts?
Thanks!
Optical image stabilization. I believe one or two of it's rear cams have this.
Yup, it is indeed the image of stabilizer that is shaking around
Wow I didn't expect this sound from the stabilizer, at least now I know is not a problem
Thanks!
Also auto focus moves the lens in and out, so its a combination of both systems de-energising and the lens bouncing back to it's free floating position.
It's the OIS, every OIS rattles, the bigger the sensor/lens, the louder the noise. Watch this video for more information. Pixel 6 Pros periscope lens has a relatively "loud" rattle noise, as has the S21 Ultra as another example.
You can also try it out with previous phones: Shake it harder than you normally would, and you will be able to hear the same noise, just a tad more quiet.
-> 44:54
What's funny is that when power is applied to the OIS, such as when you open the camera app the OIS doesn't rattle as it moves to stabilise your picture. On my S21U, the OIS always was always powered so it wouldn't rattle even when the cam was off(Samsung probably did this as people were returning the phone thinking it was faulty) but this caused a wakelock and battery drain and people were complaining. On one of the last updates I had before I sold the phone, they removed this so the OIS started to rattle again when the cam wasn't being used.
