So back in the day I used to bake my own ROM's and whatnot but I haven't done that kind of stuff in years. I finally upgraded from a Sprint SM-N900P Note 3 to an AT&T LM-F100VM LG Wing that I bought off eBay. Took the Wing to T-Mobile today and the little girl behind the counter said it can't be activated because it's an International phone. Seller said the phone is network unlocked, going into phone settings Network and Mobile Network Type both say unknown, it doesn't say anything about AT&T other than the boot screen, so I'm hoping someone can help while I'm still doing generic Google searches.
I had an issue turning on the Note years ago becuase apparently it was a pre-paid phone, was told it couldn't be activated either yet got someone else at a different store and boom, it works...I'm hoping this is the same issue w/ the Wing.
dear XDA poster ,
there are at least six different variants for " LG Wing " and each one has different properties in connection with " cell wireless networks " compatibility and with support of US carriers also exploit different radio frequency bands for LTE networks.
" T-mobile US " and " AT&T " LG WING variants support the very same spectrum of radio frequencies [ bands ] for " 5G NR " however those two LG WING variants also show two different lists for radio frequency bands in connection with LTE cell wireless networks.
if you got that code correct [ LM-F100VM1 ] for your phone model, it is definitely an AT&T variant then when unlocked the phone is also compatible with ' T-Mobile US ' and its " 5G " network however " LTE-A " [ 4G generation cell wireless ] network compatibility may be limited and depends on the area or region where you live [ i.e: although you have an unlocked phone, you may still be limited with that choice of a network operator, depending on the firmware variant also unlocking frequency bands. ]
Verizon and its retail network resell instead this model [ code: " LM-F100VMY " ] and a LG WING variant also compatible with mmWaves for " 5Gnr " networks and when unlocked then, " LG WING on VRZN " is also most suitable to be used internationally [ with both LTE-A and 5G networks ] and while also inserting SIMs of worldwide carriers.
International variant instead [ global or LM-F100EMW ] is most likely supported by VRZN networks in the US.
please note:
although unusual.... " firmware swap " may still occur and you may want to verify your unit was delivered with correct " firmware variant " for that phone model. if you don't have the packaging to read the labels, try inquiring by IMEI code or serial number to get results and a " code " identifying LG WING model or variant. then retrieve two separate lists for your handset' supported radio frequency bands and for either " 5G " and " LTE " networks
EDIT:
see also the following table for more info. source: https://www.piucellulare.it/scheda-tecnica/lg/wing/5g-f100vm1/

I'm still lost though since I the phone I bought says it's LM-F100VM, it's originally an AT&T phone that's been unlocked, yet TMobile chat says it won't work fully (I don't care about VOIP, I just want a basic working 5G phone. I tried checking against AT&T's website but they don't have a simple IMEI checker option. The two IMEI's I have both show the same issue, 354772160436644 and 351716700583921. I'm lost because I assumed an unlocked phone was just that...I could swap a SIM and switch networks every month if I wanted to and that they'd work 100% no matter what...that doesn't appear to be the case.

dear XDA poster,
eventually T-Mobile " 5G " network coverage won't reach all areas and regions in the US and when traveling, you may at times be forced to register with " TMO LTE-A cell wireless network. " in order to use your phone with a SIM card of " T-mobile US ", the handset also needs to support " LTE-A network " of your preferred carrier [ that is our understanding of the message. ]
" data and internet connection " may still work however when registering your phone on TMO " 5G network " , calls and text may not work [ depends on TMO enabling select technology for making phone calls using cell wireless network ]
that said... when you live and work in areas with full " 5G " coverage for T-mobile US wireless network , you won't encounter issues and even when an unlocked " AT&T variant for LG WING " isn't officially supported [ as long as it's still possible to make phone calls when connected to a " 5G " cell wireless network though ]
what we did when living and studying in the US, we entered a t-mobile " shop " and asked politely to try an activated SIM card we then inserted into the unlocked handset we had then. you may however just ask a friend and borrow their t-mobile SIM card [ SIM card will always work when in unlocked phones unless SIM is instead locked for specific IMEI code and phone. ]
please also note there's one letter missing at the end of that LG WING model code you wrote.

I guess this is what I get for not wanting a cookie cutter S21 :/
Tonight I took the SIM outta my Note 3, trimmed it down to the size of a NanoSIM and put it into the Wing. It didn't change anything identifying the network, it only showed my phone number, yet it never got a signal and calls didn't work at all.
woah ... that's not wise to say the least.
SIM's are often cut to fit exactly the SIM tray for cell phone and unless you have a proper tool and " SIM cutter " , it's really hard to size it correctly.
i guess your best bet is to also just enter a LG store [ or LG corner in a department store ] used to sell phones and find out what options you have in terms of carriers [ although we gathered you'd prefer to avoid AT&T and stay we TMO ]

There's template online that show how to cut them, it didn't help the Wing and is still working in my Note that I'm writing from right now.
LG is leaving the mobile phone business and I can't say I've ever seen an LG store anyways.

dear XDA poster,
that sounds a good alternative although we can see no reason why unlocked LG WING on AT&T won't work with SIM's of TMO too [ " T-mobile US " ]
as long as your area is served by TMO and its " LTE " network exploiting one or more of these radio frequency bands: " B2 B4 B12 B66 " and the area or region is also served by TMO and its " 5G " network exploiting one or more of these radio frequency bands : " N41 and N71 " ... then you won't have problems when registering your " AT&T variant LG WING " [ LM-F100MV1 ] on TMO network.
[ NOTE: in order to connect to 5G network, your SIM plan must also enable " 5G " cell wireless network connection. since your handset comes customized for other carrier ( AT&T ) you might as well have to add and edit ( Access Point Names ) " APN " profile manually and when browsing android' " Settings >> Network & Internet >> Mobile Networks " ]
EDIT:
you may also want to use " phone keypad " then enter a code to access " engineer service menu " and manually enable some additional radio frequency bands, while selecting menu options to access pages showing " radio frequency bands " can also be enabled as you wish [ there's a post on this forum about that however... that code, to be entered with phone keypad, isn't always the same for each variant of LG WING ]
I could finally activate the 5G network capability of both my LG Velvet and LG Wing, European versions.
I have an Italian (ITC) genuine SIM unlocked Wing LM-F100EMW with latest Android 10 V10k-EEA-XX installed.
If you hit with the phone dialpad this sequence:
#*462633*#100#
it will lead you to a hidden menu where you can find all sort of information and tweaking options.
You have to choose "Field Test", then "Modem settings". You will have here many things you can change. Go to "RAT Selection", "SIM 1 Mode" (if you have only 1 SIM or if it's the one you want to go up to 5G speeds), it will give you many more options than the ones you find under the regular "Network settings".
So I then hit the "GSM/WCDMA/LTE/NR5G" option. I now have up to 5G automatic network selection!
Only issue is that under the regular Mobile Network settings, "Preferred network" states now "26" and if I want to see what other options you have, it only lists the options up to 4G preferred and it will go back to 4G maximum if you choose it. So you have to go through the hidden menu again to activate it.
I also tested that if you power off the phone, 5G maximum stays activated when you power on the phone again, good to know.
You may also try to tweak your 5G bands by selecting them in the corresponding menu "Band Selection" in the "Field Test", "Modem Settings" menu. Some of them might not really work though, as it might be hardware related depending on your model.
Hopefully it can help people finally being able to use the 5G network of their provider with the Wing, Velvet, and possibly other LG 5G phones like the V50(S) and V60. You just have to put your model number at the end of the secret code ...#900# for the Velvet, ...#510# for the V50S ...#100# for the Wing, aso, if I understood it good.

Update...phone seems to be working so far after all. LONG story but the GF and I hit Verizon and TMO today, one of the employees at TMO was part of the design crew for the Wing and she was able to change some settings and get it working...I don't know what part of 5G isn't working based on the screenshot above, but otherwise it's been fine so far today. I'm still gonna refer her to the secret settings thread floating around here to get her .02, otherwise thanks all for the help

I've been doing a lot of research the last week, but I am a novice here; thanks for your help and patience.
I have an S-ON stock M8 which both Sprint and htc have verified is listed in their systems as unlocked. I have a SIM card from a Norwegian provider called TDC, which I was previously using in my Sprint iPhone 5c here in Norway. That being said, I popped the TDC SIM over into the M8, but it says, "Invalid SIM card" and "4G services are unavailable as the SIM/UICC is invalid. Please contact customer care."
Sprint says the phone is unlocked, and provided me with an "unlock code" which I believe is the MSL code.
TDC says they don't even use any unlock codes, and told me to talk to the phone's manufacturer.
HTC said they verified it is unlocked, and when factory reset didn't fix the issue, they said it must be a Band frequency issue, where Norway doesn't support the right frequencies for my phone. But I question this, since my Sprint iPhone works here in Norway.
Any thoughts?
The error message says 4G is unavailable. Does anything work on the network (such as GSM voice, or 3G data)?

No, nothing worked.
It seems the answer lies in that it is a Sprint CDMA-only phone, and the rest of the world uses GSM.
Since this type of phone is customizable, I suppose it's possible to unlock it to GSM bands, but I am going to need a very thorough walkthrough on how to do all of that, I would guess.

That isn't correct. The Sprint version is not "CDMA-only". The phone fully supports GSM, as well as some HSPA (3G) and some LTE frequencies. It also supports Sprint's CDMA network (in addition to other network types mentioned). You can see the band support specs of the Sprint M8 here: https://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_(m8)_cdma-6233.php
That being the case, what the HTC rep told you is not correct. You aren't going to get an "invalid SIM" message due to improper 3G/LTE band support by your local carrier. GSM is always going to work (all carriers in the world use one or two of the same 4 bands). If the phone is SIM unlocked, you would have GSM coverage.
Also, from what I can tell, Norway uses 2100 MHZ for 3G, which the Sprint M8 supports. So you should have 3G as well (if the phone was SIM unlocked).
Usually, the phone will request the SIM unlock code, if you insert another carriers SIM (if the phone is SIM locked). So I don't know why that isn't happening in your case. It has nothing to do with whether you local carrier uses unlock codes. That would only be true if it was a phone they sold to you, which of course, it is not.

I have the Samsung Factory Unlocked version of the S20+ (model SG-M986U1).* This means the phone is not carrier-specific, it works on all carriers (CDMA, GSM) and supports both millimeter wave (Verizon 5G Ultra Wide UW) AND lower frequency band 5G (usually called Sub 6).* The 5G UW super fast network is typically only available in highly populated areas (cities) because it that frequency signal doesn't travel very far and is easily blocked by buildings.* However you will notce the Verizon 5G coverage map shows 5G as being pretty widespread across the country.* Most of that is their Sub 6 5G Network which was launched in mid October 2020.* The 5G Sub 6 network, to my understanding, is using some of the same frequency bands as 4G so essentially it's really an amped up 4G signal using what is called Dynamic Signal Sharing (DSS)*(A lot of people don't understand all this.)*
I'm curious if there's anyone on the forums with a factory unlocked version of the S20 (typically the model number I think has a U at the end instead of VZW) can confirm if their phone shows a 5G icon when you are in sub 6 5G or does it show "LTE+"* I read somewhere the unlocked phones show LTE+ because technically that is what Sub 6 band 5G using DSS really is and 5G in that case is more of a marketing term.* Because different carriers use different terms for different networks, the factory unlocked phones can connect to all the different 5G networks but they can't accomodate all the different marketing terms.* I'd also be curious if when connected to the millimeter wave 5G in the cities if these factory unlocked phones show the "UW" designation which is bascially a Verizon marketing term, or if the phone just shows "5G".
There was also an article that talked about these phones needing a software update to use 5G and supposedly the updates were pushed out right after Verizon announced their Sub 6 5G network launch in mid October. But the author wasn't sure if the Factory Unlocked non-carrier specific models would receive the necessary update. Considering Verizon and Samsung just signed a 6.5 Billion Dollar agreement for SAMSUNG to further build out their 5G network, I would be very surprised if it were the case the factory unlocked models didn't get the update.
My S20+ model SG-M986U1 is showing Service Provider SW Ver. SAOMC_SM-G986U1_OYN-VZQ_QQ_0027 wondering if that's the 5G compatible version?
The other thing is a lot of people just swap SIM cards when they get a new phone. With 5G in most cases, if your SIM card was issued may months ago, you need to go into the carrier store and have them give you a new 5G compatible SIM card. I honestly can't remember if my phone was showing LTE or LTE+ before and after SIM card change. I tested the bandwidth after the change and in a strong signal area got 60mbit download but I didn't have a pre-SIM swap test in that area to compare to unfortunately.
Well I feel like I'm going in circles but now found a Reddit thread that confirms what I originally suspected.
The Factory Unlocked (model ending in U1) S20 phones apparently have not got the update from Samsung yet to allow sub 6 5G connection. But there is a hack in that you can change the carrier network code to ATT even though you are on Verizon and it enabled the N5 band which is what Verizon uses for their "Nationwide 5G" To do this you dial *#272*your IMEI number# Then select ATT and Install and change network code only. Phone will reboot and now you will see 5G UW symbol.
I tried the CSC change on my factory unlocked S20+. I ran three successive bandwidth tests on bandwidthplace.com before and after the change so 3 times on VZW and 3 times on ATT. As others have alluded to the LTE DSS Sub 6 Flavor of Verizon 5G is on average about the same speed as 4G LTE+. So I just turned it back to VZW and will wait for the update from Samsung. I'm surprised a month and a half later it still hasn't got the update to allow N5 band on Verizon.
I'm also wondering is the S20 always show 5G UW when connected to any 5G including sub 6 5G and not actual millimeter wave ultra wide 5G? Or is that just a side effect of "spoofing" the ATT carrier code when actually on a Verizon network IMEI?
Hello Jazee, this is my first response to anyone on xda, and I know that by now you probably have your answer I notice this is an old post. I have an unlocked Samsung s20 5g. And depending on where I am, it says 4g let, and when I'm closer to the city, or hold my leg right(I live in the country), my phone shows 5g. It's shown lte+ before. I think it depends on your carrier. Some I've noticed share 4 and 5g lte simultaneously depending on the current speed. As you mentioned earlier, 5g signal doesn't put up a big fight when it sees a tree or building. Anyways, that's my 2 bits worth, hope this helped. BTW, lte+, when I get that, it is pitiful. Nothing like either 4g lte or 5g lte.
I'm currently on a 5G network. However I do not have the option to choose the 5G network as my preferred network. The same SIM when enter edin my Xiaomi 5G phone has the 5G option and is able to connect to a 5G network. I am using the US Unlocked Version of the Razr 5G overseas. Is there any codes, or setting, (or perhaps unlocking of the bootloader _that would allow the 5G setting to appear? //// For example when i enter my t-mobile US pre-paid sim the 5g option appears in the menu. I think there is a software element here blocking the option.
It may have to do with carrier preference wether to allow it or not. I am using the Google Fi e-sim and I watched options vanish after it was added, I can't turn off 5g, so I guess I'm stuck with that.
It's probably provisioning as a Sprint only device on Google fi with esim, you may have to get a physical SIM card to be able to use the T-Mobile network and 5G.

With Google fi it always defaults T-Mobile if it is not a Fi approved phone. I did find that going to *#*#4636#*#* then phone info and changing the network type would affect being on lte or 5g. Options with NR are 5g and without would be LTE or lower.
I own the european version of the Razr 5G. When I bought it a few days back (not new), it had only up to 4G available in the settings, on Android 10 (and not offering the option to update to Android 11). I tried to reinstall the software manually, which bricked it (only fastboot bootloader accessible, no system installed apparently). So I decided to unlock the bootloader (officially, so bye-bye warranty) to see if the problem could be solved this way. It didn't work better...
So I went to support.motorola.com as it was written on the screen and dowloaded the Rescue and Smart Assistant. That not only solved my brick problem, but also installed the latest Android 11 full firmware when I opted for the "Rescue" mode (about 3GB download).
All this to say that I not only have the latest Android 11 installed, but also the 5G option that appeared in the network settings now! Well, I might have lost official warranty now, but at least I learned some things doing it!
By the way, although I have the 5G preferred option set on, I still can't connect to it (what I can do with my cheap Realme 7 5G phone...) I think it is a known problem here in Europe, as a lot of "5G ready" phones have still to been granted access by the network carriers, or something like that. Well hopefully it will come with the next update.
Edit: I actually can connect to 5G network (guess n28 Band, because the speed is not too great), only compared to the Realme 7 5G phone I'm using daily, the quality of the signal is weaker with the Razr: 2 to 3 bars only, when I get full 5 bars with the Realme. So I guess it's got more to do with the Razr (5G only?) antenna location/quality.
I think that most people that have used the sprint variant of these phones onto the T-Mobile network are feeling what i am.
anger!
I finally made a seperate thread as i have been posting my experience with t-mobile directly as that is who my carrier has been as 5 moths ago when i activated service by moving our unlocked sprint lg v50 (v450pm) from metro-pcs (t-mobile powered).
our phones (we have two identical we purchased off ebay for a really good price).
the "VoLTE" worked perfect on metro-pcs (although we only had lte in this area as we live in small town in iowa).
no complaints from me all is good.
t-mobile was running a special that my mom (73 at the time) qualified for.
55+ magenta or something like that.
anyhow we ported two lines with our lg v50 phones.
from that same day it has been a nightmare.
VoLTE does not work. so funny cause it worked fine on metro-pcs (powered by t-mobile).
ok 5 moths later (so many hours on phone with t-mobile and waiting for supervisors to call after 72 hrs) etc....
t-mobile is horrible!
ok anyway here comes the non-rant.
the actual info that is important for us non-rooted devices
get your msl from t-mobile
they will give it to you as that is how we got both our msl numbers.
this will get you into:
##33284# "Debug"
##3282# "Data" > "IMS" where you can enable disable "VoLTE" doesnt mean it will work but it will make it show up in your phones settings network connections mobile networks and you can toggle it on or off. (this does let me talk and use data (3g) at same time.
##3424# "Diag" where you can enable and then startup dfs cdma tool (i changed my spc to 000000)
i also used dfs cdma tool to change network preference to "Home" which i think is not-roaming
ok here is my question now.
who knows how to setup this phone to get volte working through the info i have provided?
i dont know those areas of the phone to well but i know a little about a little.
does anyone know the ideal settings as if this was a t-mobile branded phone on the t-mobile network?
can someone post pictures of their dfs cdma tool showing the pages of important information such as which frequencies are enabled and disabled and how hd voice and network prefered etc.....
we might not have root but who needs it?
goal is to get these sprint variants on the t-mobile network to work with volte so t-mobile dont make us go into a 2 year contract for other 5g phones that arent as good as the phones we own.
the iphone 12 basic model only comes with 64GB non expandable storage. (our V50 have 128.
iphone 12 basic = 4GB ram (our have 6GB
iphone 12 battery = crap to v50 battery....
the galaxy s21 plus has only 128GB storage and non-expandable.
i mean they (t-mobile) want us to buy 2 phones (2 year contract) when we alreay have these great phones and they worked flawless on metro-pcs (powered by t-mobile).
what is going on here?
lol im freaking out

Hi ! I bought LG LMV450PM Sprint unlocked. Please, can you describe in details how to get MSL code from Sprint ?
Hello all!
I have an LG G7 from India, model G710EAW. I moved to the US from Canada and the phone isn't entertaining T-Mobile or ATT SIM cards. When I insert them, service works for a little bit and then immediately switches to "Emergency calls only". T-Mobile's website says my phone IMEI is compatible with its service.
The strange thing is that the phone has two SIMs from Canada roaming - one on the T-Mobile network and another on ATT. No issues whatsoever. And when I check the bands in Engineering Mode, I can see one roaming SIM running on LTE Band-4 on T-Mobile. The other roaming SIM is switching between LTE Band-2 and LTE Band-5 on ATT.
T-Mobile uses bands 2,4,5 mainly, and ATT uses 2,4,5 among other bands. This leads me to believe it's some kind of a network restriction preventing my phone from latching onto these networks directly.
I've made tons of calls to T-Mobile and ATT so I'm no longer interested in pursuing them with this.
I'm wondering if cross-flashing a different firmware might help fix this issue. I remember reading on this subreddit that the Google FI firmware may work for T-Mobile bands. I'm not sure I understood that correctly.
Can someone confirm if that's possible? Does this make sense? I'm hesitant to buy a new replacement phone when my G7 works so well.
Thanks!
