AT&T not supporting Rog2 Feb2022 - ASUS ROG Phone II Guides, News, & Discussion

At&t notified me today that my Rog 2 will not be supported as of February 2022 because they are shutting down their 3G network. And sure enough I downloaded the list of supported phone and the ROG 2 is not on it.
Here is the Link to the list of phones:

We phased out our 3G network, but don’t worry – we’re making room for an even better network.

The phone is not that old!!
Anyone know if this is really the case?? They also don't support Zenfone 6 which is my wife's phone. And it doesn't look like there are many other carrier options...

Not happy with the news. I was going to move to Red Pocket GSMA (ATT virtual provider) soon and now I have to think twice. Still hope further research will clarify everything. I'd better call or chat with Red Pocket customer support.

WiFi Calling and VoLTE and AT&T

It's my understanding that these features (advanced calling, like WiFi calling and VoLTE) Doo not work on unbranded devices like Pixel and others. This was the case with my unbranded SM935F or Galaxy S7 Edge until we got some files, an appropriate CSC, and also had AT&T switch our account to an IMEI of an AT&T branded device that had working WiFi Calling (others have apparently just called AT&T and had them provision WiFi Calling)
Note: for me, I have a business account so I could just go into my business portal and put in an IMEI that I got from an S7 Edge model in an AT&T store
I am attaching the files that we needed to add to our system to get WiFi calling to work on AT&T. I think I remember all I had to do was to add them and make sure permissions were correct
Here is an IMEI that I saw on another post that may work ..... But I do know that the AT&T system needs to recognize your phone IMEI as an att branded device that has working WiFi calling. So if you aren't business customers it will require a call to customer support.
Possible working IMEI:
Mod edit: Removed
Any Pixel AT&T users that could try this and report back would be greatly appreciated!
Btw, I'm not completely sure which files are needed in the Pixel as compared to the S7 Edge .... I would have a backup available

You don't need any of that for WiFi calling or VoLTE. That all works fine on custom roms

I obviously could be wrong ...... But I'm 99% sure that what you are saying is not true for AT&T and maybe even other USA carriers!
I KNOW that I'm right for S7 phones and ROMs .... And the problem is so pervasive that they have even been able to get unbranded S8's to obtain WiFi Calling on AT&T or other USA carriers (even though WiFi calling works great on branded S8 phones)
AT&T users a different mechanism to provision WiFi calling than other carriers

You are correct that AT&T does not allow unbranded phones to use those features. It's all BS too. I have great LTE coverage but many times I will go to make a call and have crap service because they have canabalized a lot of the hsdpa towers for LTE. Then the switch back to LTE can take forever. And I don't care what they or anyone says AT&T's hspa+ is no where near as fast
None of this works, as AT&T blocks access to VoLTE on Pixel phones. Denies me the use of Numbersync for my tablet and android wear 2.0 watches. AT&T service techs keep promising to fix it and try to force it to work, but still blocked. It is simply a situation for Google to get the Pixel certified for the AT&T network, which is problematic, as AT&T uses a non-standard protocol for HD Voice that is unique to their network. So, as best I can tell, AT&T has to release the source code, for a price, I presume, to Google to add to the phones and then pay for the certification process with the FCC. Seems a stand-off as long as Google has an "exclusive" arrangement with Verizon. So for me, I'm pissed not to have numbersync for my devices, but unwilling to give up all the advantages of the Pixel phone.
That's why I switched to T-Mobile.
So there is no way to get VoLTE on the Pixel XL with AT&T then?

If AT&T carries the upcoming Pixel 2, is it possible Numbersync would start working on Pixel 1 devices?

I doubt it. They only support advanced features on devices sold by them so it's not as if older Pixels will suddenly be grandfathered in just because they start carrying newer ones.
This annoys me to no end... If I buy a phone from att, do they have to give me an unlock code when the phone is paid off? I really need WiFi calling for a trip I make multiple times a year

I was able to get the code the same day or next for the att Note 8 that was bought from Samsung. The device is paid off.

Yeah according to a rep I spoke with, the pixel 2 will support Numbersync even though att isn't selling them. There are, however, no plans to change the restriction on the original pixels.
I'm in the same boat but I'm genuinely curious - if I don't need wifi calling - is it really a big deal not having VoLTE? I'm taking in terms of better signal or faster LTE internet speed. Or does VoLTE is just having clearer phone calls? I guess what I'm asking is what other benefits are we losing (on a technical standpoint)

Late response but as far as AT&T goes besides VoLTE what I experienced on my Pixel XL was random issues with group text (MMS) reception from certain individuals from other carriers.
In particular it seemed as though if senders of MMS texts to a group chat that I was participating in sent a text from a carrier like T-Mobile and they were using Samsung devices with VoLTE and enhanced LTE stuff enabled on their end I'd not receive the text. I would instead receive texts from others in the conversation. I could freely text any of the same individuals in a separate standard SMS conversation just fine, and they could send me an MMS text like a photo, but as soon as we were in group MMS I'd lose the ability to receive their texts and no amount of APN changes or combinations of texting apps would fix it.
I can't tell you how many times over the course of the first 5 months of owning my Pixel XL with an AT&T SIM in it I missed out on half the conversation in group MMS. Doing nothing to my phone other than porting number to T-Mobile and putting in my new T-Mobile SIM all of my group MMS issues went away (replaced with ****ty signal LOL but that's a different story). I'm now on Verizon with my XL and am a happy camper, albeit poorer having wasted money jumping around.

ATT Wifi Calling on Pixel 3 XL...shouldn't we be able to enable it on the 2/XL?

Someone has confirmed wifi calling working on the 3 XL on ATT, if that's true shouldn't we be able to get it working on the 2/XL? Is it IMEI related? Even if so, if I were on a rom that had wifi calling and swapped a sim in it from a Note 9 or something it would work at least until the system detects the imei and updates it, which isn't always the case or all that fast to happen.
Sounds like a carrier issue.
I think it's garbage that At&t ran this whole campaign "Google Pixel works on At&t" yet they won't release all their features to the users. I had to beg them for HD calling. Finally after a week they activated it. This stuff should be automatic and available to everyone. I pay the same amount as an iPhone user
This has me sitting with mixed feelings. I have really bad AT&T reception in my basement and really need WiFi calling. I don't want to spend so much money upgrading from a 2 XL to 3 just for this though.. (granted, I like the non-XL 3 form factor better..)
Seems like poor customer perception to enable this finally on the 3 phones when the 1 and 2 fully support this other than AT&T flipping a switch on the other end. I'm glad they finally are allowing the 3s.. but..

2 Black shark 3 phones both only 2g on TMobile us

I purchased 2 black shark 3 phones, my wife has 1 and I the other. We switched to TMobile to use the phones. Absolutely love the phone ,best phone I've ever had, but both phone will only connct to band 2 2g service. Before buying I checked and was advertised to that the phones would work on TMobile. But no matter where we go in are pretty good size city with full 5g connectivity our phones are only connecting to band 2 a 2g network. I have searched and searched for fixes trying different things I've read. Eventually calling TMobile support, they said that for some reason my phone is only picking up band 2 while there was multiple bands from my tower. He went on explaining that the hearts and band can be different even though the say the same. Now if it was just mine or just my wife's I would say bad luck phone but both ours are doing the same thing. The phone has so many more control option than most but none that let me select band. What is wrong , and do they say TMobile compatible if there not? I'm extremely upset because of how much we love the phones , even more so because we paid 1300 dollars for two bricks. The false advertising that they are usa TMobile needs to be stopped when clearly the are not, my wife are on TMobile and can't even talk to each other or other people because they won't pick up anything other than a very poor 2g network. It needs to be clearly stated that they can but you will be asking if they can hear you now and playing phone tag and dropping calls constantly. I'm reaching out in multiple ways black shark support and forums to see if there is something to fix.

Lineage phones that will work with AT&T 5G?

Dear Experts,
The cell phone I've been using
here in the USA is a Motorola G7 Plus,
with the Lineage 17.1 OS.
Yesterday, March 2, 2022, I couldn't
make a phone call. Immediately, the
call would end, and a message displayed:
"Call ended".
The folks at the ATT store in the mall
immediately suggested that I get a new phone.
My question was, why was I not warned about this?
It's been planned for a while now.
T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint 2G/3G/4G LTE network shutdown dates: the sunset!
T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint 2G/3G/4G LTE network shutdown dates: the sunset!
When are the carriers retiring their legacy 2G/3G/4G LTE networks? Here are the dates...
www.phonearena.com
However, ATT docs says that the G7 Plus will work.
Mysterious.

After swapping my SIM card with various
phones, turns out the issue is the Lineage OS.
Results:
...
Motorola G7 Plus, Lineage 17.1
- call ended
Motorola G7 Plus, Lineage 18.1
- call ended
Samsung Galaxy A32, out of the box Android
- calls work
Motorola G7, out of the box Android
- calls work
...
This is disappointing, as I like to use Lineage.
I've been looking at the Lineage compatible devices:
Devices | LineageOS Wiki
wiki.lineageos.org
Of the 165 phones there, many look to be a
number of years old, and would not be a
candidate to work with ATT 5G.
q1:
Is there a setting that I need to tweak to
make Lineage work with ATT 5G?
q2:
What current phones can be converted to Lineage, and
are now compatible with ATT 5G?
Is there a list/link?
Or does anyone speak from experience?
Thanks a lot
I found out that it wasn't necessarily my phone. Over the past 5 -7 days in my area and maybe everywhere, ATT was doing switching to eliminate all 3G. I had been warned last June that this was going to happen and even tho my phone was VoLTE and 4G, consumer cellular was adamant about making me get a new phone, so I bought their samsung A01for $100 just to shut them up. Consumer Cellular actually shut my service off, forcing my hand and that was when I was living down in Alto Texas. However, I didn't like their phone because it was all googled up and I went back to using my Moto G7 plus with LineageOS. It has been the phone I depend on and I like it best. When my phone stopped working a couple days ago, it was right after an update, so I assumed the update was the problem or my phone was haywire. Then, I found out thousands of people were having the same problem from https://downdetector.com/status/att/ and they do consumer cellular, too.
Now, the new minimum requirement is to be 4G LTE compliant.
After giving up on Moto G7 plus, I put my sim card into my old Galaxy S9+ and it worked. I made a phone call and talked for more than an hour. After I hung up, I tried to make another call and as soon as I dialed, I was returned the message, "call ended" and I couldn't get it working again. So I moved the sim card over to the phone that Consumer Cellular sold me last summer, the samsung A01 and no mojo. I messed around with it for an hour or so. Also, I forgot to mention that whenever I put the sim into a different phone, I would get a text message from Consumer Cellular letting me know that they have somehow configured my phone to work on their network and I have no idea how that works because when tried to show someone the messages they sent me, they were gone as if someone had deleted them and I had no idea that the sender of a text could delete the sent message on the recipient's phone, nor push a configuration. Long story short, nothing worked.
I stopped in at the local ATT store, today. The guy looked at my phone and changed 1 thing (my APN) and it started working. He changed it from Pure Talk USA (att.mvno) to ATT Nextgenphone (nxtgenphone). So now I can make phone calls and check my voice mail etc.... however, I am NOT able to use data from the tower. My wifi works, but I should be able to get data from the darn tower. no luck. I just wanted to let everyone know that I dont think it's my phone. I think it's consumer cellular and ATT or maybe just ATT because consumer cellular uses ATT towers.

Question T-Mobile SIM and US mobile eSIM working together on Z fold 4 ?

Time to step up my game...
I am on a USA T-Mobile plan for many years and over all quite happy with their coverage. However, it is from time to time I travel in places they have spotty to non-existent service... Since now I finally have an android phone with eSIM, I started doing some reading and came across US Mobile. They are a MVNO company who offer a connection to wither T-Mobile or Verizon. I will spare everyone the 35 minutes chat I had with them about everything they offer, all I can say it looks like it should work simultaneously on the Z Fold 4 so the phone really scans and connect to both networks..
Assuming this is true I still have tons of questions but let's start with two:
1. How do I assign data to run on T-Mobile and not Verizon? I plan on having Verizon limited to 5GByte, and T-Mobile is unlimited. Can I switch data manually between the networks? Is there a way it will be switched to Verizon only with no signal on T-Mobile?
2. Is there any 'double network' symbols in the task bar? Can I see which network is stronger?
Will appriciate anyone with some experience. Our APPLE estrange brothers and sisters have far more experience in the USA with eSIM and SIM + eSIM but for me, as a long time Android user - zero experience. I plan to try the free 10 days by US mobile in a week, when traveling to an area I had spotty connectivity with T-Mobile before.. Will update when I am back, but in the meantime, does anyone have experience with it? Any non US person that tried it ?
1- Yes, in connection manager you can assign a connection that provides data including hotspot data.
2- Yes you will see two sets of signal bars side by side. Personally I prefer the split bars on Apple but understandably they came up with this due to limited space from the notch.
Finally got my dang phone esim added to Verizon... As someone who called Verizon 15 times, I will tell you this... Don't waste your time with speaking with anyone but Tier 2 Technical Support.... As soon as I finally got transferred to that group it took 5 minutes... smh
