Helo, Recently I decided to get tablet for my car, and I come up with Google pixel C tablet, Which I'd like to use for many reason, to listen music and watch, for camera instead of mirrors, for GPS navigation. I like the size and every specs it has, read everything about it, but There is no GPS? Google pixel c doesn' come with built in gps? Is it true, why did they do so good tablet without gps? it's something like iphone 12 without camera.
I just can't beleive that any modern tablet without GPS, and plus google would have include gps staff in their devices. My question is is it true or did I read something wrong?

Hi,
in about two weeks i'll be travelling to London.
As i hopefully get my Desire this week, i've wondered if there was a way to get any satellite maps (or even google maps) to work offline.
Connecting to the internet would be pretty expensive (roaming), so it would be great if i could download the City Map for London on my device and then just use it offline.
Does Google Maps currently offers a possibility to save the cached data? Or are there any good Apps for that?
What's with google navigator? Possible to download maps there?
Thanks in advance
fooXeh
I've never tried (Still waiting for my desire) but i was already checking for some handy apps to do this and found MapDroyd. Just google it (i can't post urls)
Seems it's exactly what u need but maybe there are others apps out there
Thanks,
just looked at Mapdroyd, looks nice.
Not as good as a Offline Google Maps but should do the thing.
Any other suggestions?
If you download the patch to let you use google nav, (search this forum) it will save the route to your phone, so you dont require data.
This clearly only works if you dont re-route.

Look at either Sygic or Co-pilot. Also see the threads that mention them in the Themes and Apps folder. I use Sygic and like it a lot.
I don't need a full navigation software, just want to browse the Satellite map for underground stations, sightseeing stuff and so on.
I'd never dare to drive a car in England, you guys drive on the wrong side of the street
I will wait for this:
http://aura.sygic.com/
3D map ftw!
It is the next product from Sygic.
In the meantime, probably I will buy Co-Pilot, cheaper

Still, those are all full navigation softwares.
Any free, non-navigation alternatives besides MapDroyd?
I did read somewhere recently on some official Google forum a thread about offline use of Google Maps. A Google employee posted a response along the lines of Google being aware of this requirement amongst the user community and something might be in the works. But not to hold our breaths.
Edit: Found it:

Look half way down the page at the "Best Answer" from Thom dated 3rd February 2010, which says:

Hi all,
Thanks for your thoughtful comments. The reason I haven't replied directly to this thread is that I and my forum colleagues don't comment on the future availability or functionality for any Google products, including Navigation. That said, the development team and I are very, very aware of the desire to have an "offline" mode for Google Maps Navigation. We're currently exploring options about how to provide a better experience when in limited or no data coverage areas, so please look for changes to Navigation in the future. Thanks for understanding.
Best,
Tom

I did a quick google search for you and found this.

It does offline viewing of streetview maps and wont break the bank at 2 euros.
looks nice, nicer than mapdroyd, thx
Hi,
Sorry, I had already posted this on another section but I think this one is more appropriate and can't delete other post.
I have a Joying JY-NL124 android car radio, which does not have an accelerometer. I bought the Yocto 3d V2 http://www.yoctopuce.com/EN/products/usb-position-sensors/yocto-3d-v2 to see if I could get it to work with torque and other android apps for the track but although android sees the device the apps do not. I am not a programmer, but is there a way to get the apps to recognize an external accelerometer like some do for an external GPS?
Very interesting. I would like to know as well. It might also be usefull in navigation to get a faster direction orientation.
I was reading up on this again and this bit means someone with the know how would probably need to code something
The main advantage of this solution is that you don't need to install a driver to communicate with a Yoctopuce module, as the HID layer is always present. You only need to add our library, that we provide in source form, to your driving software for it to be able to directly talk to Yoctopuce modules.

Have you tried contacting them directly and asking if they can do this for you?

Uff, sorry for the late reply. Life has a way of getting in the way of interesting projects. I'm about to restart this project since I'm using the car a lot on the track. It's weird that the units don't come witha compass, gyroscope, accelerometer, etc, considering they are meant to be used in moving vehicles.
Definitely post up if you figure it out.
It would be nice to get it to work with Android as a whole. If that's the case you might need to talk to one of the ROM developers to see if it's something they can do ROM wise or even a custom kernel.(the kernel bit might be a little harder)
Did anybody get this right. It would be cool if these usb accelerometer could work in the apps

I'm very interested to understand whether this is possible as I am thinking about a similar setup. You tried the three Bluetooth tips in the roll up thread?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...roll-joying-2gb-sofia-mtcb-mtcd-tips-t3555249
"Bluetooth Tethering & BT Settings", "Difficult to pair BT devices" and "Modified stock bluetooth app to allow connection to all devices"
Have you tried external GPS for higher refresh rates or is the Head Unit gps refresh good enough for the track?

Sorry....USB not Bluetooth... Also discouraging. I was hoping USB would be an alternative to BT for track add-ons...
I too have an Android head unit and do track days, and have the exact same interest as you. I use Harry's Lap Timer. I have the Pumpkin AE0273B head unit. It too lacks the compass and accelerometer. I too found this to be a very unfortunate omission.
I have developed apps actually so I do know Android program to some degree (although I am sortof a hack, not a pro). I have apps on the Play Store (since I can't post links just search Play Store for developer JimRoal). I saw the Yocto stuff. When I get some time I will look into this some more.
Any update on this? Would also like to add a compass / accelerometer to my joying.
Also interested. But on a newer 10.0 unit. Something I am going to look into.

Sad that over 4 years after I first posted this we still don't have a unit with these features. I finally gave up and bought an AIM Solo 2 DL.
I'm looking for a newer radio though, since mine is older than this thread
Still waiting as well.
Looking forward for solution, we have also WIMOTION sensors in the market with sample android apk but I'm not a developser so, put things together is hard for me !
I think the hard job is try to mock the sensors in Android AS IF external accelerometer was factory embeeded (allowing apps to recognize it)
Nothing new about this project / idea ???

Once you've figured out how to modify the kernel, you should be good to go!
Another option could be sensor to serial over USB, via a compatible adapter, write an app and there you go. Of course it won't be standard Android though.
Drivers are here
https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v4.14.133/source/drivers/iio/imu/st_lsm6dsx
The problem is adding them to kernel !
You dont need to add them to the kernel. You will need to implement an Android HAL that can read the values of these sensors. Its not a trivial task but also not very hard if you have access to the source code
do you think it'll be possible to rip the assistant out of a Pixel and APK it for other non pixel phones?
Specifically for the Note 7? (without having to use allo)

Think it'll be built into the system so no. The Nexus devices aren't even getting it.

not yet no... but they did say it will come for other systems before too long.
I presume its probably reliant on Nougat 7.1
I just don't understand Google. Why invent yet another assistant when they could have just advanced NOW. Which one will be left to rot and die?
Look at their other things. What are we up to, 4 different messaging type apps? or is it 5 or 6. Hangouts, voice, messages, Allo, Duo. And not to mention the withering and eventual death of GTALK. Why not make 1 really good one with everything the other 5 have instead of letting them die out.
It makes me worried about adopting any new Google product and become reliant on it because they may change their minds and just turn it off at a later date.
Yeah, I'm still mad about iGoogle and Reader......

I still use Greader / News plus:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noinnion.android.newsplus
It uses Feedly (which itself uses a G+ sign in). When reader shut its doors I was able to import all my feeds into Feedly.
But yeah, reader was awesome.

Hello everyone,
I just got my brand new GT classic, 2 days ago and I can say I'm pretty happy with what I got. Also this is my first smartwatch at all.
Beside that I'm Software developer for over a 10 years in many different aspects, languages, technologies and frameworks. So far I've developed applications for desktop, web and mobile platforms, but now comes real challenge.
I would like to develop app for turning on and off my smart lights in the house, so I can be even more lazy
If anyone has any experience in developing watch apps please let me know more details.
I'm interested in best language (I think I read it's Java, which is one of my strongest programming languages) to develop watch apps, most often framework if there is some specific, API-s from Huawei, if there is some useful and so on. Really every help and details are more than welcome.
Also if anyone interested on pairing during app development, would be possible also. App won't be commercial, and will be free for everyone if I made it some day.
Thank you for your attention, best regards.
Lol. I can't help but I though it was funny to think a way so we can became more lazy lol

It's a great idea. If you do a Google home integration instead it would work with everything that already interfaces with that.
So far I have Philips Hue & Hive bulbs/lamps/plugs, and British General plugs and sockets, all working with Google Home. As GH already has links to many smart devices I think linking to that would be possibly simpler as only one connection point?
Maybe also do it for Alexa for those who use that?
That way 2 integrations would cover almost all smart devices that allow connections.

This watch is not supporting adding apps. And propably will never be even if Huawei give us access to rom file. Its to much hardware limited. You can only create watch face on it OR create app for android, linux, windows to upload faces, manage options, show notifications to use it instead Huawei Health.
Do the toggles actually physically switch off the camera and microphone modules or not? I am very particular about privacy (I shouldn't have bought a Google phone, I know, but I'm waiting for the latest GrapheneOS), so I was wondering if the Google Services can actually still access camera and mic or not?
Also, on a related note, I don't upload my photos to Google Photos, but I do use the editor, as with the new features it's just great. I turned off face grouping in Google Photos, but I'm still worried Google may scan my photos for content. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks a lot!
I can categorically state that whilst the buttons 'APPEAR' to work for the end user, the camera and mic are NEVER turned off.
Only a hardware switch can do this. I 'COULD' place a switch on the positive power to camera, or add to a mic, but rather pointless dont you think?
That's the point of the old 80's-90's question, would you let big brother into your home?
You do now.
Type Nokia 'james bond trick' in google.
We had a field day when that was out knowing the battery had to be removed to prevent this hack...
This is why they sealed in the batteries....
Google = one drive, they already got everything on your fone, if not, they got it from your families fones via contacts etc... whoever sent what, they know. In fact, by law, when you first bought fone, you agreed they OWN your photos when you first accepted in order to turn phone on for the first time.
Proof?
Who took the photo first, you or google? The fone did. Get it?

As mentioned above, the effect of those switches is superficial.
Now as far as buying a "google" phone for privacy, it really is the BEST option for privacy. Why? Because of unlockable bootloaders. They're also a lot more secure out of the box than ANY other phone you can buy.
The only options are;
1) Pixel (has google spyware, but can be removed).
2) Non-Pixel Android (has google spyware, has VENDOR spyware, has CARRIER spyware, CANNOT be removed).
3) Android without google spyware (has PRC spyware, CANNOT be removed).
4) The fruit company (anyone's guess, CANNOT be removed).
My recommendation is you start off with google-free AOSP. Best for you to build it yourself, but you are also welcome to my build. Just search for my AOSP thread.
