"System" taking up large amount of storage - Nokia 3.2 Questions & Answers

As the title says, in file manager "system" is taking up about 12gb out of my 16gby phone came with. Tried searching up solutions, none of which worked. I heard it could be due to the A/B partition feature but I'm not sure. Any information or help would be appreciated.

nothing you can do about it. Nokia 3.2 sucks

you can change to a custom ROM if you find one, but I doubt there is.

Jelly Bean "Misc" Storage Settings Bug?

I flashed Bigxie's OTA JRO03C deodexed rom onto my Galaxy Nexus recently, as well as Team Eos 3 Jelly Bean Nightlies on my Xoom, and just noticed an odd bug today on both of them:
When I go into Settings --> Storage, I see all 5 categories calculating their size, and the used space on my internal storage showing as a large white / light grey box. See the first pic gnex_calculating. Once they are done calculating, the "Misc." category disappears completely, and only four coloured segments show for the four categories remaining. However, the total size appears to have shrunken significantly, but the Available space remains the same. See the second pic gnex_done.
The only conclusion that I have is that the "Misc" category doesn't show up, even though there is space "allocated" to it. On other words, it is just missing from the chart and list. I see the exact same behaviour on my Xoom. See the pics xoom_calculating and xoom_done, and compare the categories and the total bar size.
I feel like this shouldn't be happening, and I don't remember it happening with ICS. So, here's my question: Is this a bug? Or is this supposed to happen? If this is a bug, should I report it at http://source.android.com/source/report-bugs.html, because I searched the list and couldn't find anything similar. Is anyone else seeing this behaviour, or is it just me?
Mike.

Really? 235 views and 0 replies? All I need is someone to say "yes, it's happening to me too", or a "no, mine works fine".
Thanks!
No, mine works fine.

Are you on Bigxie's OTA deodexed rom? If not, what rom are you currently using?
Yup, I'm on that ROM.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I have some files on my internal sdcard that's causing a bug to manifest. Perhaps I'll start temporarily removing files to see if I can pinpoint it.

Thanks for the info! I don't think it's something specific to Bigxie's rom, because it's also happening to my Xoom. So I think it's either a Jelly Bean bug, or a specific app that is creating a conflict somewhere in the OS, which would lead back to Jelly Bean anyways.
It happen to me, too
What I am using is a official upgrade of JB on Galaxy Nexus.
Could some one tell me why and how to solve this?
I had downloaded a manga reader and 2 gigs of mangas. I uninstalled the reader, and then I started noticing what you described. I had to hook up my phone to the computer and delete all the manga PDFs. Which I couldn't see on the file browser with my phone.
I'm seeing this too.
Could this be linked to the fact that ClockworkMod has this crazy new backup format that creates a folder full of 6000 or so "blob" files? I think Android becomes very unhappy with too many little files in one folder.
didn't this just mean you have no files in the categoriy "misc" on your device atm?

No. Misc refers to all files that are on internal storage which don't already fall into those categories. I have several gigs that should count as such.

It's not the CWM backups, because it was happening when I was on TWRP, and its also happening on my XOOM which uses a CWM based recovery. It has nothing to do with recovery.

Moreover I'm still using the old CWM and it's doing it to me too.
They did change the mountpoint for the 'sdcard' (user data) in JB. Various people have had trouble with apps loosing data, which hasn't happened to me, but maybe this is another symptom of it?
I've not installed much user data, and only one small docx since moving to JB, so I doubt it's a whole lot of lost items in my case.
I guess when the ultra-official Google stock images come out we'll have to re-evaluate based on whether the bug is present there.
I've got another thread on XDA for the same issue (link). It seems to me that it's definitely a JB issue. I have the same problem on both my devices. Gnex with Stock 4.1.1 (rooted with CWM) and my TF101 Transformer with CM10 preview (CWM variant). I haven't lost any files, but my storage is way down (8-10 GB on each device).
It's definitely not just large files. It also takes a long time (30-60 seconds) to finish calculating the space for both devices.
I've had this issue on every version of JB I've tried.
I think it has to do with the file system. the "misc" folder that should count also tend not to appear when connected to a computer via MTP.

I don't think it's a Misc folder. Android is identifying the files based on type Misc not showing up is the problem. I actually did some deep searching using File Manager and found the culprit on my GNex. My CWM Backups (which would be classified as Misc.) needed to be cleaned up. Now I just need to comb through on my TF101.
I'm having the exact same issue as well, same ROM. I hope a fix is around the corner somewhere.

Phone storage all used.

Hi all. Got a problem with my One X where it seems something is using all my storage space.
Has anyone seen this before? Easy fix? Going to move to a different Rom soon but this is crippling my phone until I move. Will post my current Rom in a follow up.
Villan Rom 1.1.1 is what I'm running.

Known problem prior to 1.29.401.11 (or equivalent). If your base is same or newer, just copy the data off the phone, format SD Card and copy it back on.
Ok thanks BenPope. Will give that a try.

Yup. It's a known issue that HTC has fixed in their updates Just copy everything from your SD, format it through the phone options, then copy everything back. It's an issue where files aren;t "really" deleted, hence still taking the space that should have been freed.
Sorry for the late reply to this. Where can I get the base files from?
You can use MIUI rom,but it's not android 4.1

Internal memory issue - some folders not accessible

Hello!
I had this problem since I got my N7100. I am not able to access the Download or Data folder on my internal storage. I am not able to delete them nor copying something into the folder... nothing. If I download something my phone automatically saves it to extSdcard/Download.
Anyone encounters this problem or has a solution. Help is very appreciated.
Thank you all!
EDIT:
I know that this Forum is maybe the wrong place, but I know that in this section much more people with propably good answers will come across than in Q&A section.

I found one first "wannabe-solution". It's only a workaround for the Download problem, but no real solution.
I entered the internal storage with my file-manager throught root partition (/data/media/) and managed at least to rename those corrupted folders in something else and with a dot at the beginning to hide them in normal file-managers. Now I changed the Download-Storage-Target in the stock browser to the internal memory. It works now like everything would be fine.
Anyway I can't delete these folders. And they persist. I had them before flashing, and after doing a Super-Wipe (including the internal media part) I got this problem again. So it has to be a Kernel-related or System-related problem. I think it's the second. I'm not sure but I think I had the problem also before flashing Perseus Kernel.
Anyway, some more help would be highly appreciated!
Thank you folks!

So, all of us have a question, we must post in original development in order to have a quicker answer.....strange
I'll report your thread.
What rom are you using?
For this one "If I download something my phone automatically saves it to extSdcard/Download." go to to your stock browser settings -advanced and find default storage.By default is memory card.Change it to device
edit:you see? You can find your answers.Flash back to stock rom and do wipe data/factory reset. Check again if your problem with internal memory is still there

At first I have to say that I am sorry, because of my thread-opening here, but I also thought that this might be a more intensive problem to more users here. I know, that I can change the download target (i wrote that in my last post), but that don't gives me the reason why this happened and how I can remove such folders.
Maybe it's more a android-general problem and not SGN2-related.

You are right. Sorry for that.
Regarding the problem. Maybe it is a necessary fact, that I used the init.d script to swap internal and external memory.
Could that be the problem?

I checked the folder right after flashing a completely new ROM. Already wiped everything in my phone. Problem was there from the beginning. Maybe it's another relict from the Script . I never used the script after the last flash.
I think its from the browser. My browser wont remind my location target. I have to change the lllocation to internal memory nearluly every time I start it. Thats very confusing.

[Q] Deleted Pictures?

I unlocked my Bootloader today and without knowing basically wiped my SD card of all personal files including music, text message backup files, my backup root files, ALL files. I honestly dont care to recover all files that were deleted but am dying to get my pictures back. Is there anyway i can get them back without the guide used to get back all deleted files as seen in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705 guide? I was trying it but it doesnt wanna play right with my laptop(Windows 8 and it keeps saying i dont have "permission", even though im the main and only user). I tried the disk digger app but its finding all kind of random pictures i never remember and things like that, just too much. So please if anyone knows anyway i can get them back share some insight.
Anything????
That was a super fast bump...you could try recovering everything with disk digger and trying to pick out what you're looking for after it finishes. The recovery applications look for anything that has not been overwritten in memory (even if it was deleted), it won't pick and choose the most recently saved stuff for you; you usually need to do that yourself.

TWRP not working correctly

On my M8, I'm trying to reinstall Xposed (reinstall because I stopped using it for a while and wanted to save some space) but when I boot into recovery, TWRP isn't showing me what's on my device. In the "Install" section, it doesn't give me the right menu. I don't know how to explain it, it shows me things that I'm not looking for. I've done this many times before and so I know what its supposed to look like. It doesn't show me any of my downloads (which BTW there isn't a downloads folder either), even if they're .zip files, it only shows me folders. Its really hard to explain but I also noticed that my backups are gone even though I did one yesterday. If i go into ES file explorer, and look into my recovery, i can still find my backups from TWRP. I'm running CM12.1 if it makes a difference and the device was on Sense 6 5.0.1 before that. Both are and were working perfectly.
Hey man sorry was just passing threads and saw this. I cant help but just to say your maybe better moving this thread to the help part here mate - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help you might get quicker answers in that department :good:
