hello
I have a rooted Motorola g 5g plus
I want to Miracast my phone to a bravia Sony tv
miracast to tv worked with a Poco x3 NFC and a Asus Zenfone 3 but moto g 5g plus can't find tv so I can't mirror my screen and same thing for Motorola one action and Motorola one vision
I asked Motorola about my problem and they said I have to use a chromecast dongle
but Chromecast is equal to half price of my moto and also almost all other phones can do it without it !!!
is there any way to unlock/enable miracast/mirrorscreen on a Motorola phone ?
Well did you tried installing apps like this?
Miracast - Wifi Display - Apps on Google Play
Help you cast android device screen to TV screen
play.google.com

yes I did tried some
the one you sent , after taping on "connect" button it just opens stock cast app which need Chromecast
I found a solution for the same problem for moto g2 which you need to add a line to a file names build.prop inside system folder but I could not edit that file and I afraid that can brick my phone because codes inside the file is different compared to g2
Probably go back to use your old xiaomi phone when casting is concerned then(if you don't want your device bricked).
The build prop may be functional, but there is also a large risk as moto g2 is a museum old phone and the changes probably won't apply now.

just wanted you to know that I tried to edit that line with es file explorer but It would not let me save it and also tried to edit it in PC and push it back via cmd while phone is in twrp but again it failed because of being read-only and strangely refuse to change permission
i find out that system partition unchangeable read-only problem is exist from Android 10 and also pixel users can't change it
so I conclude that I can't enable mirror screen ( at least for now )
i disappointed
You need to do that with root, like magisk, but banking apps and maybe even google play won't work.
Or you can temporarily buy a cheap old xiaomi phone that does nothing but casting.

as I said before
I have a rooted Motorola g 5g plus and I did grant es file explorer for doing that
also banking apps working after hiding root
as you suggested
I'm using my old asus phone to mirror screen
but shame for Motorola
thank you for your replay
Maybe try downgrade to android 10 if possible. Android 11 have problems with file accessing as far as I know.

hi, today I received the console (used, android 6.0). I didn't have much info about this device. But today I understood that play store is limitied:/ and 3D games lag even on low settings(dead trigger 2, asphalt 8, real racing 3). I think that it happens because of 4k, am I wrong? also I couldn't play play mc5 after tutorial ended(use this account section). How can I download games(multiplayer, example modern combat 4) without rooting? seems like this device is only useful for streaming and GeForce now (I didn't try). is it possible to use play store fully (no limited apps)
Hi, seems you haven't research before writting here.
If there is an app that is not found on play store you can sideload it.... a.k.a search for the apk at apkmirror.com or similar and trustable page then download and use a file explorer app like X-plore (Do not use ES File Explorer, it's not trustable anymore, adware) to search for the apk and install it (you need to enable "unknown sources" in shield's settings to be able to install any 3th party app).
I use a browser to search and download apk and X-plore, you could also use your android phone, tablet or pc/laptop to download and then upload the apk's to google drive, dropbox or similars and then access them from your SATV with the respective app.
Now just in case you're not fan of Android TV limitations and would like to try other stuff, here's a forum where Droidmote dev have shared a full Android MM firmware (no Android TV, no limitations) and a Stock Restyle firmware with full play store among other projects.

PS: look for Droidmote channel in youtube, then check Shield TV playlists and watch the videos)

your best bet for games and normal play store is full android nougat by zulu99, though not all games are available due to vendor, location and maybe other kind of restrictions, so you will have to edit your system build.prop to cheat google by making it think it is a top notch samsung device or any other high end device of the like that does not have vendor restrictions, to so so you need root (read below).
Google is starting to do new moves against users with unlocked, custom roms and rooted devices. The most recent one is Netflix, the handheld version is no longer available on play store for those users, let's see if Netflix complete the move and stop working on those devices.
For root i advise you to use magisk, read about it, it pass safetynet, it can hide root per app and it's modules structure open alot of possibilities and functionality. Everybody's going to start migrating to magisk after Google's new intentions.

Moto Z Play for some weird reasons has disabled cast. You have to root your device and edit one line in build.prop from persist.debug.wfd.enable=0 to
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
It should work.
Thanks to @dedraks

Google removed that functionality from Android in Marshmallow and where it exists after that is where the vendor adds it. Motorola doesn't add it.

The reason Moto disabled it, is because they want people to buy their Moto Mod Projector

That would be very weird reason - Insta Share Projector can't replace cast.
I found info about this on official Lenovo forum. One of moderator said:
"Google removed Miracast from stock android many versions ago. And since Motorola builds on stock android with very little modifications, most of their phones have not had Miracast in many years. Android supported Miracast, in Android 4.2 (KitKat) and Android 5 (Lollipop). However, Google dropped native Miracast support in Android 6 (Marshmallow) and later. If you want to mirror the display from a newer Android phone or tablet, you’ll need to do so via Chromecast."
Hello guys, I purchased XIAOMI 4a smart TV, inbuilt patchwall UI is no doubt good for general purpose, but when you want to play games and do many things like doing on smartphone, it is not upto the mark for me. I want Remix os as an option for this TV.
There is Bluetooth drivers folder in root directory but you can't use Bluetooth in it. (Intentionally not provided)
-----------No support for game controller to emulate touch control as in Remix os.---------------
You can't create wifi hotspot.
And many more.....
Also if someone can give me ideas to emulate touch via Xbox controller, it would be great help.
Edit:
I tried to install Google play store TV , Google account manager, play services, and service framework. Everything installed but after opening play store it gets force closed each time.
What is the display size?
43"
Lets open a common thread for all the MiTV owner to share ideas and know-how regardless of tv model and versions available as well as regions. Hoping a development and mod could be bring together.
Install this app and share me the screenshot.

Have a look at this. It will give you some insight of how wierd it us to do so.
Hey guys, this is to inform you all regarding this model is added in "certified Android Devices" list, so in near future you will get Android support officially.
And if some development as in progress than you might get chance to have different rom support on it.
Hey friends,
This model is about to get android pie update officially.
Bro I didn't got it yet your post is 2 years old please help me
Which TV model is yours ?
Hi,
I purchased a Philips 50PUS7303/12 a few days ago and although very happy with the screen quality I was very disappointed to find that the TV doesn't have the full Play Store or the ability to sideload apps and this was the main reason for going for this Android TV as it just fitted within my budget. Can anyone offer a way to get around this limitation (Philips are shooting themselves in the foot by making it this restrictive). I wanted to install ITV Hub, All 4 and My5, along with TV Catchup as freeview is bad in my area.
Another issue I have still related to the TV, is how to get proper 'Freesat' with EPG. Most of the channels have no name and they are in no proper order. Is there any way to address this.
Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.
Regards,
Robert.
I also plan on purchasing this TV (i.e the 65") and was interested in installing apks. From what I've read on reviews on Amazon UK, you should be able to do this by enabling "unknown sources" from the Google security settings, put any .apk files that you have on a USB and use a file explorer (e.g ES File explorer) to find the USB directory and install the .apk files from there. Should be a piece of cake.
Let me know it this works as this is one of the main reasons why I am interested in buying this smart TV.
Hi jpapadami,
I tried doing that and was able to install ITV Hub, All 4 and My5, but of these apps would show on screen. Going to setting and apps I was able to see each application but was unable to open any of them. ES file explorer installed OK and I was also able to install Modbro.
Regards,
Robert.
Hi, oldish thread but I just got the same TV on a black Friday deal. However its not worth keeping the tv if I cant get itvhub and other UK catch-up apps to work.
I can side load the apps made for non TV devices, but i really want the TV versions as they work better with the remote.
Closest I can find is an xda thread from 2016 where someone pulled the apps from a fire TV device then removed the Amazon requirements from them so they would work on any Android TV device, unfortunately those apks don't work anymore. But I think that looks like the best way?
I've also had a poke around on my Sony android TV, which has all the catch-up apps linked to youview, but I can't find any apks to pull and even if I could i suspect they will be locked to Sony
You can always use aptiode for the apps and use tv app repo to link them / create shortcuts on the main menu.

Hi...
the Thread is a bit older but thats not important. To install any other Apps that are not to find in Android-Tv Play-Store is that simple as to dig in your nose xD
first go to Play-Store and install a file explorer like x-plore to your Tv.
Now you can download any App---apk with you Computer and put it on a USB-Stick or USB-HDD/SSD. Transfer the portable device with your own Hands from PC to Tv Connect the portable Device to USB on the Tv and open the file-explorer. OpenRoot of the portable Device where the apk from the App is in. Choose the apk file and install it to Tv. If you now have a custom Launcher on Tv like sideload-Launcher or ATV-Launcher. Lte your installed Apps shown in this Launcher cause in the stock-Launcher not all Apps would be listet and showing.
Thats all...that easy right.

Greetings all,
When I have no issue casting to my Chromecast 1from within apps that support casting like Netflix, VLC or similar, problem comes when I want to mirror my screen for other usages.
For example I like to do some retrogaming mainly using RetroArch, unfortunately there is no casting support in the app.
I used to be able to cast my games on a bigger screen like my TV to make my gaming sessions even more enjoyable when I was on my older devices, however now it is impossible from my new Redmi note 8 Pro.
I would like a trick/tip which does not require using a google account (trough the Home app for example) because I am not using my phone with a google account for may reasons (no google account is logged on my phone, nor I use the PlayStore).
If it is possible to cast for example NetFlix I see no reason why I cannot simply mirror my screen.
Thanks.
Redmi note 8 Pro
MIUI 11.0.2.0 PGGEUXM
Coz Xioami choose to use Miracast for it's mirroring protocol instead of Chromecast.
Those two are different protocol.
Try updating "security" app manually from apkmirror, (not sure if this is the one that added the option for me, or having Android 10 11.0.4), after you do one of these options, or both, go to:
Settings>special features>video toolbox>manage video app>add your desired app to cast.
Now whenever you open the app you will see a small line in one of the edges, you can swipe it and you will see many options, one of them is cast
