Hi all. I'm running the stock rom, fully updated, on my Sprint GS3, and it's rooted. I bought a 64GB SanDisk microSDXC and formatted it in fat32. Transferring files to it directly from my PC with a USB adaptor gets me ~6MB/s transfer rate, but when transferring files to it through the phone, the speeds are at a crawl. Nearly 500 KB/s.. Is there any way to speed up these transfers? I have an otterbox on the phone and having to pull it out to transfer files everytime just seems like something that can be avoided.. Thanks for the help

Apparently, after looking into it further online, it seems to be related to MTP on this phone... This app seems to solve it for the phone... but I'm unsure if it will work on our Sprint version?

Additionally, do most custom ROMs include UMS abilities...? Or is this not capable? Thanks

yes , i know, no problem with flashdrives, but external hard drives, thts the problem, a friend of mine, told me tht GS3 can mount/read HD , even its jsut a phone, so i thought tht galaxy tab 3 can do it even its ony dualcore not a quadcore! in youtube i didnt find such thing about the tab3..
Doesn't depend on how many cores a device has. Depends on how much power it can supply to the externally connected device.
USBs require low power whereas HDDs require a lot more

so, did u try to plug an external HD? does it work? the GS3 can make it. thnks
I think if the external drive has it's own power supply it should work. I have one I'll dig out and try it later.

ok, thks for yr comment, it helped me a lot.......
I just connected a 10 port, powered, USB 3.0 hub (working in USB 2.0 I guess) connected 5 USB 3.0 harddisks and a pen drive. All drives were detected but the ntfs ones were reported as unknown file system.
You can connect terrabytes via USB on the go.

Just clarifying, I DID NOT test it with a powered hub. All I used was anormal USB OTG acble. No external power was supplied

There is often not enough power available for attached USB devices, a reference for USB host power problem: http://www.draisberghof.de/android/pppwidget.html

Hee Ketut, kenken
No, my USB Hardisks demand too much power. Pendrives or USB HD's with external power work fine.

Of course your powered USB hub solution will always work, USB devices will never draw to much power from the host.
BTW, Penarukan, Keloncing, Sinabun, Suwug not so far from Singaraja
the thinkpad tablet can supply my hard drive 320 gega hitachi... and as a friend told me, the gs3 can do it too

I have just connected my tab 3 with an external 80 gb old laptop hard drive in a caddy,it has to be formatted fat and has to have a power supply. It read and played all my 40 odd films no trouble.
Seagate 2 TB ext powered Go-flex
Yes it works, I have rooted device Tab 3 8.0 T311, with all must have apps topped with 'Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+'
My drive - A 2 TB ext powered Seagate Goflex :silly:
Works smoothly
[ Edited/added later]
FYI if ur not aware u need to be rooted, have busybox (once rooted its a must have, if not for this for other important apps), get a good OTG cable, for drives with no ext power supply better get a Amkette or Transcend USB 3.0 powered USB Hub's, you wouldn't want ur drive sucking ur tab's battery like a vampire
and have fun Yeaa !
I looked around but couldn't find much of an answer. Does anyone know if the Nexus 7 is compatible with higher capacity external flash drives? Specifically something like this with 128GB? I have a 16GB Lexar that it can read no problem when connected with my OTG cable but I was wondering about bigger sizes of space limits?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have used a 64gb that I have vacation pictures on with my OTG and had no problems, I haven't used anything larger than that, but I would assume that there wont be a problem. Anymore though I have been loading a lot of stuff to Google Drive and just use the Drive App to view what I need and not use the Flash Drive and OTG at all unless I really need it

Alright, thank you for the response. From the sounds of it, I doubt 128 GB would be an issue. Anyone know if the Droid Turbo would work the same way? I know this isn't the right forum but I just thought I'd ask.
Hi threre, I'm using the Cable that came with the device (Dash Charging supported. so i legit) and the speed transfer is really slow (not above 5 MB/s) is there something that i missed?

I am having exactly the same problem: 5 MB/s tops of transfer speed with my OnePlus 3T.
Being a USB 2.0 port is no excuse for this. It should at least be 25~30MB/s at least.
There is something else wrong here.
Well if you transfer a single large file, the transfer speed is usually good.. Like 20-30 mbps.. Since op3 utilizes MTP which is already a **** protocol and coupled with usb 2.0 you will have such slow speeds..
I don't find it a issue honestly.. I came from what is it? Below usb 2.0 so.
I notice it a lot.
Kenzo had awesome transfer speed.
Specially in recovery the speed was like a 500mb file took 40 seconds or a minute to the max.
Speed transfer it's kind of good comparing with HTC One m8, but slow for OnePlus 3.., Dash.., type C...
Hi everybody. I have a S21FE Snapdragon (G990B) version on BVB3 version so I plan to update to CVC6 and decrypt data for some testing on Afaneh's recovery.
My issue is that data file transfer is slow as hell, even if I use USB3, even with 3 differents cables and ports. Of course I don't want to lose it so I have to wait but to be clear
I've waited for 40 minutes and only approx 4-5Gb of data were copied for 65Gb in total.
Anyone else had this slow data transfer issue ?
I noticed this with a lot of small files. If you zip them, the same amount of data is transfered faster.
@DarkStar9173 Thanks for your reply. It seems to be the same for me. So I used FTP wich transfer big files slower but small files faster. I'm tired of these cables and their slow transfer speed...
I also noticed the S21 FE is extremly slow with transferring files to the pc. I compared it to the S21 Ultra and that one was very fast using the exact same cable. I have no idea why.
