z2 Data Migration Samsung Smart Switch app - OTG Flash Drive not recognized - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

I know our z2 forces have a weird USB-c implementation based on previously research on the audio dongles for headsets. From what I remember, Z2's output analog audio out so the internal DAC does the work where as others output digital and an external dac is required.
I tried to move data from my z2 to a Samsung S21 using the Smart Switch app but the usb-c cable method fails. I bought a shorter Samsung cable but it still fails. I used a different method and tried to backup to the internal SD card in the z2 and It'll recognize the card and the app will say it backed up but when I look at the card no files have been created. To try another method, I plugged in a OTG SanDisk flash drive and the z2 recognizes the drive and can copy to it but the Smart Switch app says it doesn't see any outside storage. Weird.
Anyone else seen this?

USB OTG issues

I have a tmobile sgs3 with a stock rom (it was rooted, but latest update seems to have killed that), and after seeing the androidNZ connectivity demo I decided to play around with the usb otg. I am having some problems however. I have tried with 2 external hdds and a thumb drive and all three light up, but do nothing to the phone. I get no pop ups, and when I use astro to check the external usb drives, they all show up empty.
What am I missing?
Thank you!
I do not have that issue, but did you check USB debugging mode in Developer options?
I haven't tried to connect to an external HD, but USB Flash card works fine, as well as USB keyboard & mouse.
I've bought a $2 USB adapter for my phone and I have been able to mount a pendrive or a HD (when it is plugged to an external power source).
But when I try to connect a Mouse, Keyboard, Gamepad, etc., nothing happens. Not even an error message.
I'm using an official Android 4.03 rooted ROM (Claro Argentina).
Does anyone know what could be happening? The problem is my ROM (and it's drivers)? Is my USB otg adapter that is not compatible with mouse and keyboard?
I attach a screenshot of my system

[Help] OTG cable problem

Hello, i have bought a OTG adaptor but when i connect a USB pen to my Sony Xperia S it doesn't do anything.
I have also tested:
- USB pen FAT32
- USB pen NTFS
I know that this adaptor is working because the store owner tested it on a tablet and it worked.
Stange thing is that i tried to connect to a zte blade, Galaxy Gios and nexus 7 and it didn't work as well....
However when i connect it to the computer the adaptor works...
Stock .55
No root
Can someone advise me?
Thanks
Root your phone and download USB OTG Helper from the Play Store.

I have many FAT32 USB flash drives that work fine with my XPERIA S no problems.
I have not confirmed this myself, but it is possible the amps provided by the Sony XPERIA S(LT26i) could be as low as 100mA.[citation needed]
Can't find any documented specs for XPERIA S and USB power supplied and/or USB flash drive which also has a known documented amp draw for reference.
I'd really quite like to know what amps the XPERIA S USB port provides.
I have a USB thumb drive that doesn't work on my XPERIA S namely the HP v165w 8GB (FAT32 formatted)
It just comes up with a big red warning triangle saying, "USB Power Consumption error"
However the USB thumb drive HP c330w 8GB does work (NTFS formatted)
Many other SanDIsk FAT32 formatted USB thumb drives also work fine. Namely the SanDisk USB 2.0 Cruzer Facet 32GB
I have downloaded Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ which allows me to successfully mount NTFS formatted flash drives on my root'd XPERIA S.
My 'Desktop' FV-1 Android box with three USB ports/HDMI etc, mounts anything and everything, including the HP v165w 8GB USB thumb drive. So it just means no two Android devices are equal in design and power.
it should work anyway? I've seen a few shots and youtube movies where the USB on-the-go was working on an XS!

Hope someone will Chinese!!!
Connecting U disk need to install a USB storage management software (the software requires root permissions and busybox). Insert OTG and USB flash drive's lights. Then click connect.
The USB file so that you can in SDcard \ usbStorage see.
You can also connect a hub so you can connect a mouse and keyboard like if you want to connect to a large power equipment, so that you need a powered hub. Strong practical ability, but also can directly plug in the power in OTG online peel.
this is what google translates for me! pretty weird to read like this. but maybe we can figure it out?!

In my honest option, I agree with SNYXPR, there should be no requirement for additional software on a standard build XPERIA S(LT26i) when using "supported" FAT32 formatted USB storage.
If the FAT32 formatted USB flash drive you have attached to the XPERIA S meets the power requirements you should be fine.
No software I know of is going to boost the power supplied by the MicroUSB port and at best, any application for USB storage is only able to support additional drive formats like NTFS etc.
I've had/have USB flash drives, Logitech Unifying Mouse/Keyboard attached without problems.
I've got a Galaxy Note Connection kit Model: DR03-S2 and that works fine and I'm able to read/write SD cards, MicroSD cards and USB flash drives using it without problems(one attached device in use at any one time).
If you go to the next step and use a powered USB hub, then a wider array of devices can be used with the XPERIA S as the USB hub is providing the power to connect the device. This includes USB printers and FAT32 formatted USB 80GB plus HDD (both IDE and SATA) etc. Also all those FAT32 formatted storage devices that said the XPERIA S did not meet the power requirement work too.
Remember the XPERIA S only support FAT32 formatted storage by default(natively).
As part of my desktop setup I have the following connection.
Sony DK10 dock plugged into a Aten USB switch which is connected to a powered USB Targus 7 port Hub.
This gives me access to USB mouse/keyboard, USB flash drives or USB HDD of any size, printer, SD card reader on my DELL U2410 monitor and etc.
Then it's just a button press to (USB)switch back to my Notebook, Desktop PC and any other device connected as part of my desktop environment.
Thank you for the replies, i think root is not required since i have seen a vídeo made by XperiaBlog that just connects a USB pen drive to Xperia S and it just works. I have tried a Kignston 8 GB and it doesn't connect, not event to nexus 7 ...

what capacity btw?
When you connect a pendrive, usually either of 2 things happen:
1.) shows that external storage is connected, details can be seen in settings>storage, external storage. file access needs to be done using a file manager app.
2.) shows, device power consumption error. meaning, ur pendrive consumes lot of power than the phone can provide. solution to this is to use a new pendrive or thru a externally powered usb hub.
Its of 8GB. The phone doesnt show any sign of connected pen drive and even the external storage option in "storage" is greyed out
thanks

hmm, I dont c wat is wrong, try another pendrive, prefarably of a different model or brand and of smaller capacity.
else it shud be a problem with the cable.
I had bought a general OTG cable from Ebay

You can use "StickMount" app to mount USB storage , incase your phone is not detecting the USB device. The only issues is that the app needs a rooted device. so if your mobile is rooted then you are good to go.
StickMount isnt helping either
try connecting a usb mouse and/or keyboard..
if it works, try a different pendrive, else then maybe u can blame the OTG cable or ur phone...
I made my own OTG cable using an old regular micro cable that I no longer needed. I believe you need to "jump" pin four to pin five....but you would be best researching it. I recall it being extremely easy to do, but then again I do have years of experience ripping stuff apart and putting it back together.

Also, I don't think drive size is an issue as I've connected a 2TB full size external hard-drive (the kind with a power brick) and was able to use it just fine. It was NTFS formatted so I did have to use USB OTG Helper to get it working, but it did work with no problems.

[Q] Connecting my G3 to car's USB port

Hello,
I'm looking for a workaround regarding connecting my Verizon LG G3 to my car's audio system. Much to my dismay, my car's bluetooth system only supports calling, not audio streaming. I do not have an 3.5mm jackport, so I am limited to a usb port. Unfortunately, the head unit is not compatible with MTP.
I have read in forums for other phones that certain apps can be used to mount the sd card in such a way that it will appear as a mass storage device. Can anyone point in the direction of some resources that might show me how to enable such functionality on my g3? If nothing like that exists, does anyone have another solution that would allow me to connect my g3 to the car's audio system through the USB port?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
What is the purpose of mounting the sdcard into your car stereo system?
If it's to read music files from your sdcard, you'd better get a USB stick.
i understand you ts.
my car's hu supports bluetooth audio streaming, so no problem for me when it comes to music.
i was wanting to connnect my phone as mass storage so that my friends can watch movies via hu.
don't want the hassle of removing microsd card on phone and inserting it on microsd slot on car's hu unit nor do i have any flash drives around.
i downloaded i think the top 5 enable mass storage apps on play store, connected phone via usb cable to car's hu unit usb slot, none of the apps worked.
the other work around i was able to do was use my old galaxy pro phone as it can be connected as mass storage on my car's hu. so the movies go to this phone's microsd card.
Try going in to Bluetooth settings and hit the 3 dot menu. Turn on audio channel I think it's called. My phone wouldn't play music either but after enabling that I had the option for both call audio and music.

USB OTG/host function does not seem to work anymore?!?!?

I recently received my Lenovo / Motorola Moto Z Play and I am very happy but....
the USB OTG/host function does not seem to work anymore. This has worked fine from day one, but last Saturday suddenly no longer. I have no idea why it no longer works, there was no update, and I have not seen or heard weird things or done anything to it.
When I insert my USB C type SD card reader, nothing happens anymore. The LED of the card reader / stick doesn't even light up.
Preferably I solve this by myself, but I have no idea what to do, I did a factory reset but that brought no solution.
The data connection to PC and charging function both work fine.
It seems that the telephone does not power the USB port (anymore?), but I can not test it. All cables/adapters/SD cards/USB sticks do work in my other phone, so there must be something going wrong in the moto Z Play.
Can anyone advise me? Does anyone else have this problem too?
I need this function during my work occasionally.

It has been fixed, like a cat! Google supports it not!
Here is what support for USB Audio player said in response to why the app cannot see my drive:
Android basically does not support USB drives. Some file explorers have made their own USB mass storage driver and FAT32 handler. They set up a local HTTP server for other apps to access the selected file.
...snip
See my recent posts. This in Dumb
Yeah, well guess what, that may be true, but it WORKED and then since last saturday it doesn't anymore. If I use a powered cardreader, it works again, and same goes for connecting a USB mouse or keyboard.
To me that means that the power supply to the USB port is defective.
Does your Moto Z Play support a USB mouse? Please let me know, cause that would make my case.

Hmmm....
Post a link to the product that stopped working?
I had funny behaviour about internal storage being seen by Jetaudio. It played from /music for a while then it quit being able to find it (as well as most of internal) a reinstall does not help.
I think only a firmware reflash might reveal a problem....
You could help me too. See if my complaints about OTG drives is true for you also. Do you have an OTG / memory stick adapter? If so post that link too.
The only product that stopped working is the power on the USB C port from the Moto Z Play itself. I have checked all cables, adapters, USB sticks, card readers and mice, they ALL work fine on other phones.
I can't check for you, since I can't connect to USB card reader anymore.... In my case it's simply the power that isn't provided anymore on the USB C port, while earlier it worked ok, therefore it must be broken. I'm going to have it fixed with the seller.
In your case I would say try ES file explorer or TotalCommander. Both did work great (until the power issue).
If you can use a mouse on your Moto Z Play, then you're OK. OTG should work fine then also with ES or TotalCommander.
Same problem happened to me.
After few days back, all seems to work fine but suddenly same OTG USB stopped working.
Kindly let me know how to solve this problem if anyone has done it.

Hello, I have the same problem, OTG used to work normally before. Now I found out the only way to make it work is to supply the 5V power from an external source using USB extension cable with a extra power plug (2 males, one female), which I plug into a powerbank/wall adaptor. Not perfect, but still better than nothing, OTG seems to work.
Hi all !!
I have the same problem! OTG not working, but CQATest tells DEVICE is in USB HOST MODE
And console output with otg inserted:

lsusb: /sys/bus/usb/devices//usb2: Permission denied
lsusb: /sys/bus/usb/devices//1-0:1.0: Permission denied
