what capacity btw?
When you connect a pendrive, usually either of 2 things happen:
1.) shows that external storage is connected, details can be seen in settings>storage, external storage. file access needs to be done using a file manager app.
2.) shows, device power consumption error. meaning, ur pendrive consumes lot of power than the phone can provide. solution to this is to use a new pendrive or thru a externally powered usb hub.
Its of 8GB. The phone doesnt show any sign of connected pen drive and even the external storage option in "storage" is greyed out
thanks

hmm, I dont c wat is wrong, try another pendrive, prefarably of a different model or brand and of smaller capacity.
else it shud be a problem with the cable.
I had bought a general OTG cable from Ebay

You can use "StickMount" app to mount USB storage , incase your phone is not detecting the USB device. The only issues is that the app needs a rooted device. so if your mobile is rooted then you are good to go.
StickMount isnt helping either
try connecting a usb mouse and/or keyboard..
if it works, try a different pendrive, else then maybe u can blame the OTG cable or ur phone...
I made my own OTG cable using an old regular micro cable that I no longer needed. I believe you need to "jump" pin four to pin five....but you would be best researching it. I recall it being extremely easy to do, but then again I do have years of experience ripping stuff apart and putting it back together.

Also, I don't think drive size is an issue as I've connected a 2TB full size external hard-drive (the kind with a power brick) and was able to use it just fine. It was NTFS formatted so I did have to use USB OTG Helper to get it working, but it did work with no problems.

i want some kind of emulator so my defy looks like a 2gb usb stick!!
Just connect to a pc with the data cable and select memory card access when asked for the type of usb conenction, it should get detected and act like a normal pen drive.
What device are u trying to use it with?

I have a Samsung 42" plasma with USB port and it read my HDD and all my thumb-drives to play movies/Pics/musics. Never thought of trying with my Defy. Will certainly try this out today.
If the device supports mass storage host protocol then I dont see as to why it wont. My LCD recognises the defy without a problem.

well yes normal usb sicks do work. hmmm i will test it some more.
If this is possible it would be very useful. I could put a bookable ubuntu on my phone and boot pc's from that instead of carrying a pendrive everywhere.
ow and im on Cm7

I DID and it did not work
hmm.... maybe just a little disclaimer in case it needs to be said: when enabling USB mass storage, the only storage system that can be seen from the defy is the one on the micro SD card.
So, if you don't have one, i'm pretty sure nothing would happen even if you connect it properly

There might be some issue in the device u are trying to connect to. Even in my pc i have usb issues. Some specific pen drives just randomly wont work on my pc. Just my 2 cents.
Connecting the Acro S and a camera by USB OTG works well. But when I connect a simple USB flashdrive to the phone instead there's warning "not enough energy, disconnect this device".
Are USB OTG connections only possible between devices that each have their own powersource? I see examples of flashdrives connected through USB OTG all over the place. Is this a specific Xperia or Acro S problem?
I've seen an Xperia S connecting to a external storage drive on a store. Try using other flash drive and see if that solves the problem.
Hit THANKS if my post helps you!

You're right. No problem with an older Sandisk Cruzer flashdrive. The other flashdrive, the one that made the Acro S complain about the energy, was a Corsair Voyager GT.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to tell which flashdrive can be used for usb otg and which can't?

When you at a shop just look for this symbol on products. (pic below)
Hi,
The solution to this problem is, this really worked for me:
Code:
su
echo 1 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-1/bConfigurationValue
Just type the above commands in terminal emulator after rooting your device
Code:
su
echo 1 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-1/bConfigurationValue
with this any pen drive can be used with USBOTG?!?
well, you can try and get a y cable(http://bixnet.net/images/Cab-USB-YBlack.jpg, its not mine, I'm not promoting anything) and you can get the other cable to connect to an external power source to boot whatever that you wanted
Hello, i have bought a OTG adaptor but when i connect a USB pen to my Sony Xperia S it doesn't do anything.
I have also tested:
- USB pen FAT32
- USB pen NTFS
I know that this adaptor is working because the store owner tested it on a tablet and it worked.
Stange thing is that i tried to connect to a zte blade, Galaxy Gios and nexus 7 and it didn't work as well....
However when i connect it to the computer the adaptor works...
Stock .55
No root
Can someone advise me?
Thanks
Root your phone and download USB OTG Helper from the Play Store.

I have many FAT32 USB flash drives that work fine with my XPERIA S no problems.
I have not confirmed this myself, but it is possible the amps provided by the Sony XPERIA S(LT26i) could be as low as 100mA.[citation needed]
Can't find any documented specs for XPERIA S and USB power supplied and/or USB flash drive which also has a known documented amp draw for reference.
I'd really quite like to know what amps the XPERIA S USB port provides.
I have a USB thumb drive that doesn't work on my XPERIA S namely the HP v165w 8GB (FAT32 formatted)
It just comes up with a big red warning triangle saying, "USB Power Consumption error"
However the USB thumb drive HP c330w 8GB does work (NTFS formatted)
Many other SanDIsk FAT32 formatted USB thumb drives also work fine. Namely the SanDisk USB 2.0 Cruzer Facet 32GB
I have downloaded Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ which allows me to successfully mount NTFS formatted flash drives on my root'd XPERIA S.
My 'Desktop' FV-1 Android box with three USB ports/HDMI etc, mounts anything and everything, including the HP v165w 8GB USB thumb drive. So it just means no two Android devices are equal in design and power.
it should work anyway? I've seen a few shots and youtube movies where the USB on-the-go was working on an XS!

Hope someone will Chinese!!!
Connecting U disk need to install a USB storage management software (the software requires root permissions and busybox). Insert OTG and USB flash drive's lights. Then click connect.
The USB file so that you can in SDcard \ usbStorage see.
You can also connect a hub so you can connect a mouse and keyboard like if you want to connect to a large power equipment, so that you need a powered hub. Strong practical ability, but also can directly plug in the power in OTG online peel.
this is what google translates for me! pretty weird to read like this. but maybe we can figure it out?!

In my honest option, I agree with SNYXPR, there should be no requirement for additional software on a standard build XPERIA S(LT26i) when using "supported" FAT32 formatted USB storage.
If the FAT32 formatted USB flash drive you have attached to the XPERIA S meets the power requirements you should be fine.
No software I know of is going to boost the power supplied by the MicroUSB port and at best, any application for USB storage is only able to support additional drive formats like NTFS etc.
I've had/have USB flash drives, Logitech Unifying Mouse/Keyboard attached without problems.
I've got a Galaxy Note Connection kit Model: DR03-S2 and that works fine and I'm able to read/write SD cards, MicroSD cards and USB flash drives using it without problems(one attached device in use at any one time).
If you go to the next step and use a powered USB hub, then a wider array of devices can be used with the XPERIA S as the USB hub is providing the power to connect the device. This includes USB printers and FAT32 formatted USB 80GB plus HDD (both IDE and SATA) etc. Also all those FAT32 formatted storage devices that said the XPERIA S did not meet the power requirement work too.
Remember the XPERIA S only support FAT32 formatted storage by default(natively).
As part of my desktop setup I have the following connection.
Sony DK10 dock plugged into a Aten USB switch which is connected to a powered USB Targus 7 port Hub.
This gives me access to USB mouse/keyboard, USB flash drives or USB HDD of any size, printer, SD card reader on my DELL U2410 monitor and etc.
Then it's just a button press to (USB)switch back to my Notebook, Desktop PC and any other device connected as part of my desktop environment.
Thank you for the replies, i think root is not required since i have seen a vídeo made by XperiaBlog that just connects a USB pen drive to Xperia S and it just works. I have tried a Kignston 8 GB and it doesn't connect, not event to nexus 7 ...
I tried connecting a USB keyboard using an USB OTG cable, but I didn't get it to work. The other USB port is in use by my external harddrive.
Is there a possibility to make the keyboard work?

You'll need to buy a USB HUB (Get a powered one to future proof all your USB needs, you can get a USB 2.0 Hub pretty cheap). This will allow you to hook up at least 3 USB's to the OUYA. The Micro USB won't work for things such as hard drives or HID devices.
In the future, please use the search function before posting as this has been talked about in many other posts.

I have a 4-port hub and it works fine connecting 1 storage and 3 other usb devices
I had this issue where only one harddrive could be used and If you have a harddrive with 2 partitions ouya wont mount it. Luckily I found an app called usbotghelper which does all the above I mentioned plus read and write and ext3 support. I wish it would get submitted to the ouya store so I could use the paid version that will mount on startup.
As the title states, I'm having a problem with my AT&T G4 (H810) using USB OTG. Every time i connect the cable + SD card reader with sd card attached, the light on the SD card reader starts flashing, afterwards nothing happens. When I plug the same cable/reader combo into my old G2, it reads the drive within seconds. Has anyone else had this problem at all? Anyone know of a possible fix?
TIA...
Must be the AT&T variant then. My T-Mobile version of G4 works just fine and shows as external storage, works with sd card adapter and regular USB flash. Did you mount the storage once connected? Because I had to mount manually.

Where in the menus would i have to go for that? just Settings > storage? if so it's not popping up there at all
Quick bump...anybody? Bueller?
Here you go.
I plugged in the micro USB to regular USB cable with my 8GB flash drive and my G4 detected just fine. Please see images I attached.
Sent from my LG-H811 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah im familiar with all that, the G2 has just about the same UI, and my whole setup works perfectly on that.
Check out my photos, first two is with it plugged into the G4, the blue status light is on, but it's just not recognizing the drive.
The last two show it plugged into the G2, working perfectly, recognizing the drive so I know it's at least not a hardware problem.
Problem solved
Hey just incase u didnt get this sorted, i had the same problem so i tried one of those usb adaptors that has a 5v power input and it worked perfectly. Winning
Do You have to install any app to mount the thumb drive or does G4 recognize it immediately?
Just installed Nexus Media Importer, ESFile Manager... Plug it in and nothing happens...
Anytime I've ever used USB OTG on an android device that supports it, it always works immediately with the stock file Explorer

Ok just read Jules2668's comment above. Might be the issue
Same issue with mine when I bought a new USB OTG. It can work without any problem with my wife's Sony Z2, but could not work with my G4. But the problem was solved after I re-formated the USB in FAT32 file type through my PC, although the original file type was also FAT32 when I bought it.
