MIUI Version that supports Video Call - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi, I have Redmi Note 5 Pro 6/64 china version flashed to global version. I saw on youtube that this phone is capable of VoLTE, native Video Call and VoWifi. My network provider is also capable of VoLTE and VoWifi. I was wondering what MIUI version supports video calling from native dialer app, I'm currently on MIUI 11.0.5 and the video call icon is not appearing in the dialer app, and lastly I am not getting the update for MIUI version 12.

I think it depends on the carrier, I am Using Jio (India) and getting native Video Call but not getting VoWifi

really weird cause Video call is supported by the carrier but native video dialer not appearing, i got me a Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G / Mi 10i and still it does not show, although I'm using china rom this time

Does Mi5S support HD voice (AMR-WB voice codec during a call in 3G networks)?

I have 8.5.3.0 global, and 8.0.3.0 before, and never experienced HD-voice calls.
Although HD-voice worked with xperia and iphone within same network.
Not sure, but probably not. Would guess the phone would cost abit more if it had the function.

Oh, this mi5S have a top chipset and everything, so that it would be strange if it does not support such purely software based (as I guess) feature. Moreover it supports VoLTE (although I did not experienced this either) which utilizes same voice codec (I guess). Also mi5/s/plus are in the supported list in wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_smartphones_with_HD_Voice_support. Maybe it is supported on some Android 7 based ROM?
You might need to call your provider to enable it for your mobile. Some features can be disabled by the operator if they don't know the mobile.

You think the operator will adapt his network because some Pepsodent asked for hd voice?
Yes, some do. Maybe they have a whitelist of tested devices for which the function is enabled or it's even a number based feature which can manually be enabled.
Apparently this does not deal with the network provider. There is no AMR-WB in mi5s global ROM.
Did anyone try the latest MIUI 9 developer ROM? Does it support HD Voice?

Is the Redmi 7 VoLte compatible?

Does anyone know if the Redmi 7 is VoLte compatible on T-Mobile or ATT? I went and checked with the imei on T-mobile's website, and it told me the Redmi 7 is not, and will stop working on the network soon.
Under my T-mobile sim card settings the Use VolTe switch is switched on. Checking it with the “Network Mode Universal” app from the Google Play Store as recommended here:
https://www.xda-developers.com/t-mobile-att-require-volte-phone-calls-shut-down-3g/
shows UMTS as voice network, instead of LTE, meaning it may soon be obsolete. Wish I had known this when I bought it.

General For USA Users: I am getting wifi calling on an AT&T MVNO using the Note 9T

I thought I should mention that without rooting or any other hacks besides disabling carrier checking for Volte and VOwifi by entering the usual codes, I am actually getting wifi calling on FreeUP, an AT&T MVNO. Which probably means ATT and all its MVNOs get wifi calling on this model.
So far as I knew until now, ATT blacklists phones that it doesn't sell from using this particular calling feature. ( apart from iphones and Pixels bought directly from Google, because both of those manufacturers refused to let AT&T sell their phones otherwise).
I couldn't do wifi calling on any of my other Xiaomi phones (Mi Max 3, a Mi Max 2 and a Redmi Note 5 Whyred, all rooted), although I could get Volte to work using the shortcode for it. But wifi calling was supposedly blocked from the carrier's end and couldn't be enabled.
I expected to get the usual "no network" message when I tested wifi calling on the Note 9t by turning on airplane mode, then turning on wifi, but it just put the calls through.
(you could always get T-Mobile wifi calling to work on some Xiaomi phones, but TMO sometimes other had incompatibilities).
fyi, the codes, in case anyone reading this is new to Xiaomi:
Code to enable Volte: Dial * # * # 86583 # * # * using the default dialer -- the message has to say volte carrier check disabled for Volte to be enabled.
Code for Wifi calling: *#*#869434#*#* -- the message says says vowifi carrier check disabled for wifi calling to be enabled.
(but check the settings after using the codes because sometimes you still have to toggle them both on)
PS: This model is a pretty decent option for US buyers on a strict budget, as is the Poco M3 Pro.
The next step up if you need North American bands is the Mi 11 lite (about $100 more) and the Poco F3 ($150 more).

Question VoLTE and VoWIFI do not work, T-mobile, Verizon (Visible)

How to get VoLTE/VoWIFI of 9RT to work on T-mobile or Verizon (Visible)?
Actually, 9RT doesn't work on Verizon (Visible) at all.
Thank you!

I will wait for a few more days for solution until I give up 9RT and buy a Samsung S22 series.
OnePlus phones are no longer useful, at least dual sim models for U.S. users.

It won't get any better.
I was able to get 5G running when I did this:
Download 5G LTE Switcher from the Play Store. Click 5G booster. Choose NR/LTE/GSM/WCDMA under Set preferred network type.
As for VoLTE, I have yet to try this method from this thread. Seems to work for others:

Cool. The 5G booster indeed enabled 5G! Thanks! - Though the speed is much worse than my newly bought S22+. 9RT got 4Mbps, S22+ got 150 Mbps.
Your referred logkit for VoLTE doesn't work for 9RT (could not install logkit for 9RT), see:
How to install logkit on 9RT
Does a logkit app exist for 9RT? On 9RT OxygenOS 11 A.05, dialing *#800# result a Feedback app instead of logkit. I tried latest logkit from following link, but first got "installing...", then got "App not installed"...
forum.xda-developers.com
Please let me know if you figure out a solution.
BTW: International sim card roaming ib AT&T has VoLTE settings in "Sim info & settings", but U.S. domestic AT&T/T-mobile sim cards do not have such settings.

I was getting over 350 Mbps once my 5G signal was working
Good to know that the roaming sim card has that option. It just sucks that we're limited with the fact that ours truly isn't a "global rom" but an Indian rom (as they still haven't released it elsewhere) and the choices like those activates for Indian carriers, afaik.
I've followed some telegram group for the 9rt and you're right, the current logkit doesn't work for the current OOS 11. Looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer.

hi, any solution to fix volte problems yet? regards
Guy can anyone help me with my 1+9RT i bought it from AliExpress, it looses network signal randomly all the time. Sometimes has sometimes hasn't, can't use my phone. And also i can't call and nobody can't reach me by regular line either. Also when i use Wi-Fi it looses signal too. T-Mobile sim card i use as a main cellular carrier. Who has similar issues? Is anyone can help me?
Hi, anyone tried to change from oxygen to color os in order to have volte? regards
No. But i think its not going to help. Its because of the phone for China region. Not for United States. But maybe i am wrong.
hi all, i bought a 9rt witn oxygen (indian i believe), after reading for some time i realized not many people have this volte problem with color, so i with the help of oneplus china customer support went from oxygen to color, it solved my problem, volte from the start, no engineering mode or other thing to do, 4g and volte calls all right, i leave the post of instruccion for it..thanks to 4pda...

Snapdragon 8Gen1 compatibility?

I've tried to flash GSi on a Snapdragon 8Gen1 Device (OnePlus 10 Pro and Xiaomi 12 Pro), but the IMS Network is not available. When I try to call someone, the line is dead (still after setting up my APN settings).
Has someone got it working?
No one make it work...
