You need twrp yep. Not root. It's not that complicated. Begin by unlocking the bootloader. You can find the to-do on xiaomi.eu topic.
Change from stock to xiaomi.eu is life changer ^^

I started out if the box with global, then miui.eu and now MMX (without any ads too). Never had to suffer from any green tin nor proximity sensor issues at all.
Phone purchased in Europe (The Netherlands).
This being said, if, like me you hate ads, and if you decide to root your phone which is really not complicated with TWRP installed, just install adaway, and you will be rid of ads entirely !

It is a lot better. I tried the stock global for a week or two and it was full of bugs and pré-installed apps that I couldn't remove easily.
It doesn't void warranty if you don't root or something. Xiaomi is cool about that.
Anyway, topic subject has been answered I think, no need to ask about other things

The cost is a main reason. More than $100 cheaper is quite large money for some people, and that is at the original price. Larger gap when on discount.

No, I don't remember having this issue at anytime, even when I opened the box with MIUI global ROM.
As I see that there are other lucky users without any issues (no green tin nor proximity sensor issues), I suppose it's depending on the production batch of the phone or of some of its components.

Unlocking of the bootloader is made available to make sure that MIUI developer ROMs can be tested by users and will be covered under warranty. Bootloader unlocking does not inherently void your hardware warranty. But a case where the unlocking results in a brick which cannot be fixed via software, the warranty will be void.
According to the statement, bootloader unlock is made available for users to try MIUI developer ROMs. And thus, it will not void the warranty of any Xiaomi or Redmi smartphone. But if the device bricks after unlocking and could not be fixed via software, then the warranty will be void.

I buy my phone from Coolblue.be, but nothing will guarantee that another batch will be the same.
This being said, due to the diversity of situations and given the (possible) possibility of a software solution, I don't want to advise you anything.

Chilean here with a Poco F3 since not too long ago, haven't had green tint issue or proximity sensor issue, I guess it depends of manufacturing date of the phone? (Tested many times, for the green tint tested black/gray/dark gray images at min brightness and 120Hz since the issue seems more noticeable like that, no issues so far)
Still have base ROM without unlocking bootloader nor installing other ROM, last time I had a S8+ and honestly root and custom rom weren't that worth it tbh

Xiaomi.eu ist not an AOSP Rom. It's a fork of the MIUI China Rom.

[Q] [POLL] Is it worth to root at the expense of loosing warranty?

I am thinking of installing custom rom on my phone for last few days. I know there is no S-off yet. So, i will be loosing my warranty after using HTCDev.com. Overall i am okay with stock rom, except overheating and wi-fi issues. You think any of the current rom will solve any of these issues and still be stable.
Is it worth to root now OR wait for S-off?
Are current custom ROMS for the HOX good enough for me to root and lose my warranty?

The question you have to ask yourself, is do you want to take that risk?
you're potentially giving up a fully tested operating system and a safe guard against any potential hardware related problems down the track, for something that could be better / worse / same
That said, the warranty "MAY" be voided, doesn't mean it WILL (obviously it depends on alot of variables). You may not have any problems down the track, or the battery could superheat and melt through the phone casing

I unlocked. I rooted. Phone is now in repairs due to creaking and basically my whole phone was messed up. Phone was send with stock firmware and not locked. And they are still fixing it at no cost. So all under warranty. And will be rooting once I get it since my phone is unlocked

if you are worried about bloatware then you can disable the ones you do not want from settings-apps. that way bloatware gets disabled and phone runs more smoother..but if you are a flashsaholic then i still feel it deserves to root..but it is all about what you are after really and what you are use to
It would be easier for people to vote if your question was phrased as:
"Are current custom ROMS for the HOX good enough for me to root and lose my warranty?"
Its worth loosing your warranty, it will take still more months to s-off and even more and there may be chance for 1 year too. any way you are going to loose your warranty in one year.
Just loose your virginity and flash custom rom , it is fun to have custom rom in hox and it will show you some better performance.
and the recommended rom is charmeleon rom.
Did i say virginity , sorry warranty!
I heard its possible to unroot device, so you can get back your warranty.

Actually real question for me is whether it is WORTH rooting for the custom roms available? Are custom roms that much better than stock in terms of performance as well as ironing out bugs such as overheating and wi-fi?
I do understand that HTC will probably honor the warranty (if needed), in case the cause is not root related.
Many Thanks...

Honest answer then yes. Worth rooting just for the performance as well and for custom kernels. current state of the kernels is messed up. Franco kernel has been cleaned up and reworked from source and well it is a beast of a kernel. i will say this again. my phone was unlocked and rooted. it is currently in repairs due to some manufacturers errors. it is all being covered by warranty and no mention that my phone is unlocked. so. only way to lose the warranty is if you overclock and the motherboard gets fried then yes the warranty is voided. but if you have like a screen that has came off or gap on either side and you still have your phone unlocked you are covered as it was not caused by any third party software.

I am not a big flashaholic. At least not yet
I am interested in custom roms mainly to see if it fixes overheating and poor wifi issues. Better performance could be bonus. So my question is narrowed down to (as we probe further), is there a rom i can install which will fix overheating and wifi while keeping it stable?
this is been very helpful, really appreciate it.

AFAIK, you can unroot it but it will say "Relocked" not "Lock". In other words HTC will know that you have rooted it at least once even if you are on the stock rom at that moment
I just returned my phone to Expansys for an exchange and it was unlocked.

Does it get hot on that kernel? I havent rooted because ive been thinking of sending this thing back for an exchange cause it keeps getting to 45 deg just when browsing 52-54deg when on 5min gaming. Since it seems like 8/10 HOX have the same issue either i root and get a rom that fixes it, or just send this back for a refund with seller.
PS: Not to mention i the left side of screen does pop out a bit i have to keep bending it in. but i can live with that for a while then just replace, but i cant live with a HOT Phone!!!!

+1 for sending it back. Screen flex can't be caused by a custom Rom so they should fix/replace no problem

Not worth it.
Unless HTC confirm on HTCDEV that unlocking the bootloader will in no way void the warranty, I will not do it.
For me to do it, they need to specify in clear English that this act alone will not void warranty.
I can understand software faults due to custom roms, bricked devices or CPU GPU issues due to overclocking, but unlocking a bootloader alone shouldn't void it, nor should the use of a custom rom.
Alot of people will want to do it just to get superuser to use rooted apps & will want to keep using official HTC OS - it annoys me that this alone would void warranty.

TWRP availability for Mi Mix 3

Hello all,
I was wondering how long will it take to release a official or modified TWRP for Xiaomi Mi Mix 3.
This doesn't belong in this section.
This does not belong in this section, but I do have a compiled TWRP here but its just untested.
I won't post a topic about it unless I know it works reliably enough: https://github.com/smiba/android_device_xiaomi_perseus/releases
(Also since again this is untested, the risk is 100% on the user who installs this.)
Your post does belong in this section I believe some standard formatting is preferred. OP was making a request, which definitely does not belong here.
That said, thank you for putting together TWRP for this device, but does any one have unlocked bootloader at this point such that it can be installed?

@djbosanac It is logical to ask this question but it is another thing to do something, STUPID. OK, you just bought yourself a $450-$700 dollar phone and you would be stupid and try to install an untested version of TWRP? @simba has not recieved the phone yet (if you would read). So do not be stupid and install it UNLESS YOU KNOW CODING YOURSELF! Then, once you brick your device, you are going to scream bloody murder asking everyone to help you unbrick it!
Hey, I have seen it before.
So, chill for a week or two. Once people get their devices things move forward.

Ya, I am going to chill on this device. I have not purchased it, yet. It looks tempting because I like everthing about it but because it does not have band 71, it is a real phone killer for the t-mobile croud. If I do get one it would be the international version. I really, really, really love the slider. I mean, that is really cool what xiaomi has done with this phone. There will be a lot sitting on the fence for a while, I am sure about that. Your thoughts on the phone?? Did you purchase one?
I have TMobile and band 71 is a non issue. Very few areas even support it

I have t-mobile and a lot of areas do support band 71, now. I think what you meant was if the area that you live in is not going to get band 71 until 2020 it may be ok to purchase a non band 71 phone now, then I agree. What I think is most want the lower bands to penetrate into buildings so they can receive calls and stuff like ATT. For most t-mobile customers (like myself) it is a hard sell. What I love is the bootloader is unlocked, slider, camera, GPS, etc. I am waiting for the global rom to see if it will support volte. I might get the "palace special" with the 10GB.
What I am worndering, right now, is if broadcomm hard coded the shut down codes into their gnss GPS chip so that people in the United States will not be able to receive the european and china GPS signals. If that is the case then a software upgrade after November 16th will not ever allow anyone in the United States to recieve the european GPS signals. Again, another deal killer.
I have a Mix 3 in my hands. Will look for a fastboot rom as backup and then test this TWRP.
Congrats! Did you successfully add Google Apps?

But, then again, you'd be surprised how many are/were mistakenly, misguidedly, and peculiarly obsessed with locking the bootloader after it's been unlocked...for seemingly random reasons...and end up bricking their device and begging/pleading for help....
So...I'd say you are a wise man indeed...

Will Google service centre accept the bootloader unlocked device within warranty?

I am facing screen flickering issues on my 3xl under low brightness. This gave me daily headaches for one month seriously.
So I'm thinking to take the Google support in this matter. I'm not rooted but bootloader was unlocked. Will they consider it to service under warranty or not?
I'm from India.
Thanks for help

Use any custom kernel and fix that with color control..
My display wasn't bad even without custom Kernel.. Seriously does people expect 1000$ Quality screen on an under 200$ device? I not even had screen burn or anything like that after 1 year of use now. Even though I use sRGB now since almost a half year.
