Question back up apps and games - Xiaomi Poco F3 / Xiaomi Mi 11X / Redmi K40

hi just want to ask how to back up all the games and apps as i want to install a new custom rom on my phone and data here is very limited on my country. is there any way i can back up on my pc? thank you

No. U can't backup on your PC. U can backup in your phone if u have root, with swift backup or migrate, but u will need to wipe data in order to root your phone, since u will unlock the bootloader, if u haven't already.

The best root backup tool is titanium backup. However that's a payed for app

You can't put microSD card in this device.
You can use USB OTG.

Keep in mind sometimes any backup method may not work properly, especially when restoring between different Roms

Yeah. Often you use a backup method and then have to use ADB pull and ADB push to save the files on your PC as the /sdcard partition gets wiped on factory reset

[Q] Nandroids

What exactly does a Nandroid backup. Is it like creating a Hard Drive image for windows?
After installing CM9RC I want to go back to my previous stock configuration. If I restore my phone with a nandroid, will I recover everything previously installed on my phone? I am assuming the stuff in the sdcard folder gets excluded from the wipe right?
Thanks in advanced,
Aphis
Yup a Nandroid is more or less like a restore point. And yes excluding sdcard.

Yes. Note that a nandroid backups up the system partition, the boot partition, the recovery partition and the userdata partition (excl. /sdcard). It does not back up your radio or bootloader, so if you change those, you will have to flash them separately.

EDIT: Ninja'd by WiredPirate.
Thanks for the quick response.
That would mean that if before creating the nandroid I had permanently installed CWM and rooted the phone, restoring the nandroid would keep my phone with CWM and root right?

[Q] Question about installing a custom rom

Okay my question is:
Is it possible to go from an unrooted phone with the whole software stock to a custom ROM, while keeping your data (apps, appdata, settings, sms, etc.)? If yes, how?
I'm on software version HTC WWE Europe 3.12.405.1, and I stored all my apps and photos etc on my SD-card.
I already know that the easyest way to instal another bootloader (CWM) is the AAHK. I downloaded it. But it will perform a downgrade resulting in loss of data.
Also while flashing a ROM you must reset the phone.
What I don't understand is this: you don't need to reset the SD-card, but the new ROM won't recognise the apps on your SD-card, so do you need to delete all those files then?
I know that what I'm probably asking a very nooby question, but I really hope that somebody can help me out here.
Thanks in advance, koningjim!

Take a look at this thread. Someone else had similar questions recently.
If by apps on the sdcard you mean apps you backed up with GoBackup or MyBackup or something similar, you will need to reinstall that backup app from the Play Store and use that app to restore your apps from the sdcard. If you mean with apps2sd, they're usually saved in a folder in the sdcard called .android_secure, and I know that 4ext recovery (and maybe others) wipes that folder when a new ROM is flashed. If the recovery doesn't, I would guess that it's wise to wipe it yourself.
Thank you very much for your response! This answers some of my questions, but not all. I hope the rest will be answered too.

I'm assuming you are taking about the option that Android gives you to move apps to sd. I don't expect you to know this yet, since you haven't rooted yet, but before installing any ROM, you should do a full wipe. On my recovery, which is 4ext (and which I highly recommend you use after AAHK installs CWM recovery), it automatically wipes .android_secure (where the apps2sd are saved) in the course of a full wipe. If you choose another recovery, and it does not do so, I would recommend that you delete it yourself.

Not quite sure what you are asking. If you are talking about just the apk file, there shouldn't be any problems. No need to format the sd card.
OOw, I think I get it now! The apps are stored in .android_secure and not in another place in the SD-card. I already backed up my contacts, smses etc. So I guess there's no way to keep your appdata? Because you need root for that and for root you need to downgrade, which resets the phone?

Just to clarify, the .android_secure folder is for apps moved to the sd using the Android OS's apps2sd capability. If you're referring to another method (like Titanium Backup or GoBackup or something), that's different. Those backup apps can back up your apps, but not app data, to the sdcard; you would then reinstall them using the same backup app once the new ROM is installed.
If you need to downgrade to root, I don't know of a method to keep your app data, since the downgrade would wipe the OS before you had the root capability necessary to back up app data. There might be one, but I don't know of one.
OK, nice! Now I'm rooted and downgraded. However, now I want to install 4ext Recovery. So I downloaded the 4extRecoveryUpdater.apk from their website. But my phone won't open and install it. When I click on it in downloads it just says "Can't open this file".
Please help?!!?!

Make sure "install from unknown sources" is checked in Settings -> Security. Try opening it from another application, like a file manager.
Oh well.. this sucks! Just one day after I rooted and lost all my data, a new version of Titanium Backup comes out that can back-up app-data without root

Recover Data from Nandroid Backup

Hello
I made a Nandroid Backup with 4Extrecovery. Then I flashed Sabsa Prime, but I forgot to make a backup of the bluetooth, wifi, and other data. Then, I was thinking maybe I could recover with an emulator, but I dont know if it is possible to do it.
How could I recover that info?
Thanks in advance

Easiest thing to do would probably be to make a nandroid of Sabsa Prime, restore the original nandroid, back up the data, restore Sabsa Prime, and restore the data.
I've also heard that Titanium Backup Pro can extract data from a nandroid. Never tried it myself.
I'm not sure what you mean by doing it from an emulator. Like, through ADB? I don't know of a way to do that.
The thing is that now, Sabsa goes perfect, battery wifi and all perfect, and I dont know if changing to the previus and then putting it again will work as fine as now.
With an emulator, I was thinkiing of a program for PC that can emulates the phone. Then I could install one app and recover the info, but in the PC. Then I would copy that info to the mobile again.

A nandroid backs up everything. It's basically an image of the hard drive partition, like a snapshot. So as long as the backup finishes correctly Sabsa will be exactly the same as what you have now.
I don't know anything about how you would use an emulator or which "one app" you would install.

Thanks, so I think the safest and easiest way will be what you have said, backup, restore previus backup, and restore backup. Thanks
wifi storea login info in /data/misc/wifi/wpa-supplocant.conf
you could restore that feom your nand backup, but not the whole file, because each rom has different config. i restore my wifi saved hotspots by manually copyong body of that file from new to old in text editor. you can try it, jist make sure to make a backip of current file and turn off wifi while you do it. much faster then the other option. im guessing you should be able to pull something similar with bluetooth...

full wipe, and restore again? im guessing tbh. i know there is some command you can run that boots in recovery on next startup. it writes a flag somewhere but thats all i can remember, sorry. try searching xda
Thanks mate, doesnt work. I've read something about flashing the previus kernel, how could I do that? Because I can only enter into the recovery.
I have installed boot.img of the backup via fastboot, but doesnt work. Im stuck.
Any idea???

When you navigate to "reboot" in recovery (instead of reboot recovery) what happens? And try full wiping and re-restoring.
I reboot, then it switchs on until HTC screen appears, for 2 seconds approximately. Then, it switches off and then switchs on again but it enters directly to the 4EXT recovery.
What I made was:
Wipes
Format all except sd card
Restore

Yeah, you don't need to flash the boot.img. Just try wiping and restoring. What version of 4ext do you have?
EDIT: oh, and make sure your volume buttons aren't stuck or pressed or anything like that.

[Q] Do a nandroid backup without root

Hey, I want to root my device, and for that I need to go back to 4.4, but I didn't want to lose all my stuff.
Is it possible to do a full nandroid backup (or atleast the /data partition) so I can restore it when I'm back at bump'd 5.0?
I discovered a adb command called "backup", not sure how it goes though

You can save your installed apps and data with Helium (Pro) to the cloud or sdcard for instance. Copy pics/video`s and music to the pc and place it back after you flashed a rom later. A full backup cannot be done without root.

Question about a full backup and rooting

Hi,
I recently tried a custom rom on my old phone and it worked pretty well. I liked the OS and now want to also do that on my current phone. But i do still have a few questions i hope you can help me with.
- Can i make a full backup of my phone (with app data) to my PC or maybe to my old phone? I am currently not rooted and tried helium backup but saw that sadly not all apps allow a backup.
- I know about titanium backup. Is there some way (if the above cant be done) i can root my phone without wiping the phone? So i can then use titanium backup to make a proper backup with data, then install the custom rom and after restore the apps+data.
In short: I hope i can somehow make a full backup with app data so i can install the custom rom and restore my app data again.
Looking forward to your replies.
Thanks in advance.
Nothing? No one ? =(
To root you need to unlock the bootloader, which wipes all user data. So you can't use root to backup your data. This is why I unlock the bootloader immediately after getting a phone.
You can try an adb backup though.

Thank you for your reply and thx for the tip. Ill be doing that too from now on when i get a phone.
As long as i can make a full backup with abd (with app data), Im fine with wiping to root it. But just wanted to make sure i can get app data back after the root process.
Do you happen to have a link to a proper backup using abd guide?

Well with a few side searches i was able to open the cmd (admin), do a adb devices (which found a device) and then run the app + data command.
('adb backup -apk -shared -all -system -f C:\backup.ab')
I saw the screen on my phone to start it, which i did but it stays on Shared Storage (where before this mentioned the apk's that were being backed up). This is taking pretty long (as in hours). Is this normal or did something went wrong and is it stuck on that part?
Edit (Update): I stopped the whole thing and tried again. Now it finished in about 10 - 15 min. I did get a message "backup finished". However in the folder i gave up, there is nothing to see. folder is still empty
Edit2 (update): Found the backup.ab file. Apparently it was in a different folder i thought it would be. So if i then also make a copy of the internal storage and do this command, i should be good right? After doing that, unlock and root, i can use the 'adb restore C:\backup.ab' and have all apps + app data back as it was before the unlock/root ?

sm00th4f3 said:
In a sense. Yes, but you might wanna read some threads about that first.. Otherwise. No one would wanna go back after unlocking his phone. Since restoring a backup from a locked phone on an unlocked phone can cause some issues.

I'm not really sure what you mean though.
If i unlock my phone with my code and then make the backup with adb and just in case, a copy of my internal storage, can't i use restore on the unlocked/rooted phone to have the apps + their data back and use them again ?
no
sm00th4f3 said:
No you can't. It will brick your device. The backup can only be used when your phone is still locked. So it is basically not needed at all.

So you are saying that there is no possibility to backup my apps+data, unlock/root/custom rom, and then restore my apps+data at all?
That was some what the question of my first post.
So its either, fully wipe with everything lost, then root etc. etc. or just keep it the way i have it now?
no
sm00th4f3 said:
The normal procedure is as follows:
After an unlock.- your data always gets formatted. So a backup is totally wasted time.
The backup isn't wasted time - if it is done after unlocking your phone, while it still has stock rom.
In case flashing goes wrong, make the backup while not having flashed twro etc at all.
You don't have to wipe anything if you just want root, since the phone will reset-wipe your data on its very own.
Just unlock it, let it reboot, Flash twrp, install root zip file. Reboot
In case of flashing a custom rom. Flash twrp, boot to twrp. Use the Reboot menu and reboot again into recovery
Reboot->Recovery (in twrp menu).
Then Wipe-> Factory Reset
Wipe-> Advanced Wipe-> Wipe System partition only
Wipe-> Advanced wipe-> select Data partition-> Change file system to ext4
Reboot Menu in TWRP->Recovery
Wipe Dalvik and Cache
Flash Rom
Flash Gapps if not stated otherwise in Instructions of Rom Thread
Flash Magisk or SUperSu , depends if you want root or not. If you don'T want encryption on older Roms, flash one of the two.
Encryption will later on be optional through Phone Security Options.
Wipe dalvik and cache.
Reboot.
Wait a bit.
Setup phone, done.

Yes but as you mentioned, unlocking means a full wipe. And i cant restore apps + their data from a stock phone backup to an unlocked phone as it can cause issues.
In my very first post i asked if i could make a backup of the apps + their data to restore them after unlocking/rooting/custom rom or whatever. Simple answer then is no.
So i either have to just wipe my phone and basically start all over, only unlock/root etc etc first.
Or just keep my phone stock like how it is now and just do nothing and wait until i get a new phone (which will be in a long time still)
