It's never a good idea to put your contact info on the internet in plain text, so I've edited your post and removed your email for you.
And may I suggest that you edit your post and make it a little more clear as to what you actually want. Right now it's a little cryptic...

help with adding Mod's

hi there,
As you will guess by my question and post count i am a fully fledged n00b and have just bought the o2 xda orbit.
It such a great forum and enjoying reading all these mod's however there is one slight problem...
...how do you add them all?! i can obviously download all the files etc to my desktop (PC) but how do i then get them to install and work on my xda? e.g. quickgps mod, emulators, themes etc?
i imagine its very easy to answer and thanks in advance
They files will either be executable on your pc or cab files.
If executable you will run the application on your pc and then if the device is connected active sync will pretty much do the rest for you.
If cab files you explore the device with active sync and then drag the cab files to the device.
Then use file explorer on your orbit to browse to the cab file click on it on the device and bingo it will install.
any hassles or specifics pm me and I will happy talk you through individual programs or items.
But I assure you once you have done it once you will wonder why you asked..
ive sent you a pm just about one particular example that im having trouble with but thanks for the reply, slowly getting the hang!!

Task Bar Signal Strength

Hello!
I'm calling out to all people who amend Task Bar icons such as battery / Sound etc to see if anyone knows how to change the signal bars on a GSM frequency?
At present all I can find are Icons that use the standard 4 bar for GSM (4 bar cannot be changed and will always be 4 bar) but I'm wanting to amend these and cannot find the .dll responsible for them.
I've searched all the forums as much as I can and found ways of changing the .dll's, but none change the signal bars. They do for CDMA, 3,4,5 or 6 bars, but only 4 for GSM.
Anyone any the wiser on which file it is?
Thanks
Anyone got any ideas? I'm scrolling through loads of .dll's but can't find it. Think it could be a system one which I can't get access to.
I've looked for this info as well, but not come across anything so far.
Even if the resource file is in the ROM, we should be able to use the rom extractor to get it shouldn't we?
When using resource hacker, occasionally "access denied" pops up when trying to look at certain icon groups. I'm not sure how to access these groups, but maybe it is in one of them?

Yeah thats what I'm thinking. Not sure how you would get access to them. I know you can unsign the files, but first we need to get them off the HD which I'm not sure how as it won't let me copy all of them.
Then theres the issue of how do you put it back on if the one on the HD is protected?

You use the rom extractor (a quick search of this site will find it) to get the ones you can't copy with your explorer(I assume you are total commander or something similar).
I've already done all this (previously), the icon groups to which access is denied are within these extracted and unsigned files. I still haven't checked each and every resource file yet, so the icons may still be accessible within one of them. As far as getting access to the inaccessable ones, I have no idea where to start.
As far as putting back on, all you need to do is copy a protected file to your storage card (which removes the protection on the file) and then copy it straight back to the windows folder (this replaces the original with the one where protection is removed). Now you will be able to rename the original file and copy in your edited file. Alternatively you can create a CAB file to install it, for some reason this method doesn't require renaming/removing/whatever the original file and is reversible by uninstall.

Edit Internet Push Links

I don't know where they came from (probably a side-effect of a ROM install) but I suddenly find myself with a bunch of Internet Push links that I don't want. Looked around the web and can find info on how to edit/remove these links. Lots of people seem to have advice on disabling Push Internet, but that is the last thing I want.
How do you get rid of of Push Internet link once it's created? Can't find anything in registry or a Manila folder in Application Data.
Thanks!
bump. Someone must know.
Bump....I'm really searching for this too !!
another bump
I'm too new to post links but look at thread number 548770 and see if that solves your problem.

Unfortunately on Sprint devices (or at least on mine) there is no \Application Data\Manila\InternetPortal-en-us.xml file to edit In fact the \Application Data\Manila\ folder doesn't even exist, and that particular xml file is nowhere to be found on the entire device (doing a search with Resco Explorer, and making sure I have Hide Hidden Files unchecked)
When you are on the internet tab there should be a 'Menu' softkey. In there is a remove option to remove them I think.
Unfortunately no. I have a Bookmarks softkey and a Browser softkey. Neither brings up a menu.

I want the Old Superuser icon back.

This may be nit picking but I would really appreciate the help, I like the old Superuser Icon with the ninja how do I get it back I have tried using that apk but then root permisions isnt working. any help.
Me too. Installed old version fine, just didn't ask for permissions.
Sent From My HTC Evo Using Tapatalk Pro!
So pretty much no way to do this.
You would need to contact the author of the app and talk to them. You mighty also ask in the theme section. There is an app I've seen discussed that can change icons.
Swyped from my Fresh EVO using XDA app.
Here is the app, modified as requested.
I have edited the new version of superuser.apk to include the old icon as I also did not really like the skull and crossbones. If I am overstepping any boundaries by all means delete this post.
I take no credit for the program, that all belongs to the author. I also take no responsibility if you bork your phone or lose root. Install at YOUR OWN RISK.
I did it the following way and had no problems:
1. Mount /system/app as RW with root explorer
2. Copy file attached to this post to the same folder, replacing the existing one.
3. Ensure permissions are as follows:
user: read/write
group: read
other: read
All other boxes are unchecked in root explorer.
Reboot the phone and enjoy. You will need to provide permission for any root app again as it is requested.

[Q] How to read the carrier IQ files?

Hello everyone;
I tried searching for this before I posted and hopefully I didn't miss anything. But I couldnt find a thread that tells you how to view the files Carrier IQ "writes to". I am in com.carrieriq.tmobile/databases and I see 2 files
1. surveys.db
2. surveys.db-journal
I was wondering if these are the files that store data collected by carrieriq and if so what PC program would I need to view what's inside of them? If these are not the files, could someone;
1. Point out where the files are at
2. What PC program is needed to view the contents of the files.
I will make sure to "Thank" whoever responds.

if there is an answer I'm sure it would apply to all phones. I think you'd get better results and a better discussion posting this in the general android section
