Good day guys,
Today I received my Mi 6. Friends told me Xiaomis usually come with an option to enable root, but I can't find it here. Can anyone help me?
I think you need to install the Developers Rom and there you have an option to enable root.
Ammmm no, you can't, at least you discover a zero-day exploit with execution code and bla bla bla.
For Root, you need mod boot/system image in the best case, or flash a tool like supersu to make the changes in fly... so you need a unlocked bootloader or custom recovery and flashing custom recovery need a unlocked bootloader.

Thanks for the reply, I guess i'm requesting the bootloader unlock to Xiaomi then.

Are you kidding?
No.
When boot loader is locked only code signed by xiaomi will run.
So twrp will just not bootup.
Also fastboot is only enabled on the phone when boot loader is unlocked so you'd have a hell of a time flashing it
And then youd likely softbrick the phone with no recovery to flash a ROM so maybe even hardbricked...
Don't try.
Just unlock.

I don't know if this applies to Xiaomi and if it works on more recent versions of Android but on Xperia Z3, installing TWRP with locked bootloader was actually possible I did it myself, and hundreds of others has done it to (you couldn't change to a non-stock ROM, without unlocking the bootloader of course, but that's a different story)
Obviosly that would need a newer exploit in order to push TWRP.
But of course Google or Xiaomi may had added additional protections to the bootloader since then.
(with this being said, you probably need to be quite experienced to start looking into that kind of stuff)

You'll notice on newer xperia phones that's jot possible
You have to unlock.
They wised up and patched the KitKat exploit (although one was found in the 575 kernel)
So yeah potentially it would be possible to find an exploit and modify /system.
But the Z3 (I own one too) required having the mods to be in system if the BL was locked. Wolfbreak obviosuly managed to get twrp installed to system and then used scripts to open it.
But a custom kernel would still brick the phone.
So you were confined to root and recovery and custom ROMs based on stock.
You have to unlock to modify the kernel (which most root now does to avoid safetynet)
So there's not much point in this system level exploit.
Phone wouldn't boot as soon as a non stock or modified kernel was installed (lots of people would try and do this and brick their phones I guarantee)
Much better to just unlock.

Of course you will be much more limited without unlocked bootloader but on the other hand you don't have to void your warranty, unrooting your phone, without any traces of root is very useful, if you happens to need your warranty.
And you can still use stuff like setcpu, xposed framework, enable EIS and camera api2. just to name a few things.
Safetynet didn't bother me that much.
That's why people are looking for ways to root without unlocking the bootloader.

Stay with beta its usually better.
Or switch to aosp if you don't like MIUI
Stable Oreo should come soon as the Chinese ROM just got Oreo stable

Hello everyone,
It's been awhile since I've been on Android and now that I'm back it doesn't really seem to me like there's any use of flashing roms now as most phones are useable. The only reason I can see is debloat with or w/o root. Anywho, my question I'm trying to ask is am I able to flash Lineasge OS on my Note 10+ N975U? I tried looking for my answer but all I run across is people requesting to flash ATT firmware for Volt LTE to work and etc.
Thanks!

In order to flash a custom rom you need to be able to unlock the bootloader. Same applies with rooting the device or flashing a custom recovery.
Since we can not flash a custom recovery, root the device or unlock the bootloader then your answer is no.

I am in the process of buying a new phone and I am looking for a phone that can be made more private and optional more secure.
With Google Pixel devices it is possible to install CalyxOS and end up with a phone that is not rooted, is running Micro-G and has its bootloader locked.
I would like to have something similar and wonder if this is possible with a OnePlus device, preferable the 9 Pro, as these are one of the most developer friendly devices around at the moment.
So would it be possible to unlock the bootloader, Root with Magisk, flash Nanodroid in system mode with Magisk in instead of Nanodroid as a Magsik module, un-root the device, remove magisk and re-lock the bootloader again?
You cannot relock the BL on the 9 Pro if it running unofficial firmware. However, unlocking the 9 Pro is easy and doable for the most part. Getting a Pixel would be a better idea.
So the following is doable: Unlock, Magisk, flash Nanodroid with Magisk?
So ending up with a de-googled rooted 9 Pro with Micro-G!
And is there somebody here on the forum who got this kind of setup working on the 9 Pro?
P.S. I was planning to stay on OOS since I want to keep the stock OP Camera. And since I can't re-lock a modified OOS I would go the lineage route if the stock cam would be available and fully functional, but I have seen nobody getting the stock camera to work on Lineage.
Hello all, Hope you are having great time.
I have just bought Poco F3 (Global variant), and have tried unlocking bootloader, and currently awaiting 168 hours. i have few queries if you brief me since this is my 1st Xiaomi device, coming from simple & easier Oneplus 5,
1) If i change to another pc to unlock bootloader after 168 hours, or if my old pc died, will the counter restart in case of changed PC?
2) I have problem and confusion in getting current stable TWRP since the forum is mixing things up for me probably because of my lack of knowledge, so basically, i want TWRP for my MIUI v12.5.2 Global, through which, i can flash ROMs or mods for my likings, so if you guys link to current stable TWRP, it would be really great.
3) I also read that if we flash Magisk, TWRP's removed, and if we flash TWRP, Magisk will be removed, so the above current twrp version has fixed this? initially, i just want to flash magisk to root official pre-installed miui os, after sometime, i will go to custom ROMs.
4) Last question, how can we flash stock miui ROM, are we only able to flash stock miui through fastboot or now also possible via TWRP?.
I Would appreciate if you clear the above query, i have searched a lot, but things gets confusing for me, and can't make it clear which twrp, or method to flash will work. so having to ask you. Hope you will understand.

1. As long as you login with the same account and not before the 168 hours passed, you are ok to continue the process. The countdown is linked to your mi.com account not to your PC.
2. TWRP 3.5x is ok. It doesn't really matter what MIUI version you use, you can install some custom ROMs but SOME custom roms require different Custom Recoveries and ADB on windows (havoc, Arrow... have their own process.) Read recommended procedure carefully for each ROM because they differ.
3. That happens to idiots that DO NOT READ ISTRUCTIONS all the way. Some ROMs require installing TWRP twice. Once to boot (temporary) and again later in a permanent manner using a different method. Each ROM has step by step procedure so problems can be avoided. After you permanently install TWRP you can install magisk (usually using boot image). If you are not careful you install TWRP, install new ROM and find out you reverted to last recovery or only have fastboot and you have to start all over.
4. DO NOT FLASH MIUI USING TWRP. EVER!!! IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE PERMANENTLY and you will need EDL Authorized Service.
Only use OFFICIAL MIUI FLASH TOOL to return to Original MIUI OS (RECOVERY OR FASTBOOT VERSION). All 2021 Xiaomi phones have a antirollback protection to prevent you to return to Original software. Only some versions of MIUI can be installed on some versions of thehe smartphones. Ex. My Poco F3 (eu) accepts reinstalling only MIUI 12.0.4 and update afterwards to 12.5.3.
Oficial Mi Flash TOOL prevents you to install the wrong software and to brick your phone
TWRP doesn't care about this Rollback Protection, forces MIUI installation regardless and bricks your phone permanently. Only official service can bring it back to life afterwards for 30 to 100 usd

Ohh I see, the last answer has opened my eyes, this is why it is always better to ask some loyal people if something's new, so the EU ROM in their forum should also be flashed only via mi tool? Regardless of the instructions in that forum where they say in instructions that we install twrp and then flash EU ROM and we are done...so is that right procedure or not applicable to 2021 devices like you said? Beginners step-by-step guide to installing Xiaomi.EU on POCO F3?
I have finally unlocked the bootloader (no guides mention it will wipe my phone at the same time!). Now I am looking again at Roms, HentaiOS and ArrowOS were contenders but Xiaomi.EU sounds like the best of all factors, a Poco F3 centric...
forum.xda-developers.com
I never installed Xiaomi EU or One OS.
The two main reasons I don't use any MIUI based OS are:
1. those annoying 10 seconds of waiting for almost every permision required by a lot of apps;
2. the main reason, because i like to use Nova launcher combined with gesture navigation. The Stock Android 11 does not allow users to disable navigation buttons outside of the Stock MIUI/Poco Launcher.
Also I am not 100% sure if Widevine L1 certification works in Xiaomi.eu. I know there were issues at one point.
That is needed for using streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video.... in FullHD, and also, maybe most importantly, is needed for Banking/Payment apps, including Contactless (NFC) payments.

So can you guys please simplify it:

I will install unofficial miui like oneos or EU after sometime, what should be the correct method, via twrp or fastboot?

I state, every modding operation is not without risks because you touch crucial parts of the system and unexpected events can happen as happened to the guy in the post, so you have to pay close attention to what you do, you don't have to be in a hurry and you have to make sure to have a PC with all the drivers and that the system is stable, otherwise any interruption of the flashing process, for the most diverse reasons, compromise the integrity of the phone and the only way to save it is to bring it to assistance.
