CSC Change On Locked VZW S9 To Use It On Tracfone? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Good day everyone!
I recently got a new phone (Galaxy S21), and I saw that you can bring your own phone to Tracfone, so I gave my Verizon S9 (SM-G960U) to my wife (to upgrade her old Samsung Tracfone phone).
We bought and installed the Tracfone SIM card and everything seemed to be working (she could make and take phone calls).
Little did I realize that Tracfone actually also uses WiFi for phone calls, and thus making and taking calls was not using Tracfone's network while connected to WiFi.
When we started researching why her phone did not work outside the home, we found that the CSC is still set to VZW.
This S9 has the latest April 2021 security update from Verizon (Android 10).
I downloaded an older stock Tracfone ROM, but Odin fails with an Auth error (presumably because the phone is not unlocked nor rooted, and the bootloader is locked).
I also tried just flashing the CSC with a Tracfone CSC, but it also failed with an Auth error.
All of the research I have done to this point indicates that Samsung makes flashing Android 10 Galaxy phones very difficult, and I suspect that I am screwed.
Should I put the Verizon SIM card back in and beg Verizon support for an unlock code? Will that even help?
Why doesn't the Tracfone SIM card override the VZW CSC? I thought the SIM card would take precedence.
Thank you in advance, and I hope I am not repeating another thread (I searched, but I couldn't find anything related to changing CSC or rooting a Samsung Galaxy phone running Android 10).
P.S. I have no objections to performing a factory reset of the phone if it will help.
P.P.S. I would like to run the stock Tracfone S9 image so my wife can get the OTA updates, but I'm willing to do whatever to get it working (I would even be happy with running the existing VZW firmware as long as it works).

Verizon Note 8...T-Mobile sim - help

Hello all, new here and I just purchased a Note 8 from Verizon. The device is paid off fully and i wish to use my T-Mobile simcard in it but it does not seem to be picking up a signal. I did update the verizon software to the latest version when i had my verizon sim card inserted. Verizon customer service told me i need to reset to factor setting then my t-mobile sim should work but this has not helped.
How can i get my t-mobile sim to work? Any help appreciated as i am new to android phones!
Thanks
Hi there, you must flash the new N950U1 2BQK1 or N950U 2BQK2 stock firmware to have full access of T-MOBILE Network. It's the only way it will work, I have AT&T NOTE 8 working on Verizon network with zero problem.
---------- Post added at 02:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:31 PM ----------
It's a very easy process to flash the 4 US Carriers firmware, I have done it more than 50 times and I'm not a developer.

I would like to know where to get the firmware and with what do you flash it with? Is there a instructions thread or link.
It's been over 5 years since I have tinkered with a Samsung device.
Hi there. You'll need to have your Note 8 Bootloader version on level 2, meaning 2BQK2, 2BQJA or anything with 2 before the last 4 digits.
1) tmobile SIM card in device
2) Odin v3.12.7 make sure extract
3) 2BQK2 firmware extract all files
4) put all 4 set of firmware files in the right manner, bl,ap,cp and csc. Don't used home-csc only CSC.

First instructions is for if you want stock US CARRIER BLOATWARE FIRMWARE, second instructions is if you want SAMSUNG STOCK FIRMWARE. Follow steps and everything will be fine, happy flashing.
So wait, I have a Verizon Note 8 (currently using MetroPCS perfectly), but I wanted a stock Samsung ROM (without the Verizon crap on it), I can just flash the second set of files instead and done with it?
Yes
Can I use a gsm sim card and a verizon sim card at the same time on verizon branded phone? I see you have to flash the firmware above but am wondering if this would help me.
So much misinformation in this thread.
I don't even know where to start:
The OP was asking why his T-Monile SIM wouldn't work. It doesnt matter which firmware you're on, if the Note 8 is unlocked (the Verizon Note 8 IS unlocked), and it has a clean IMEI, and your SIM is already activated, then it will get 4G LTE. I know. I have a Verizon Note 8, and use it on Tmobile. I used it for over 24 hours with my T-Mo SIM but running thr Verizon firmware with no issues. Only reason I flashed T-Mobile firmware was to rid myself of Verizon bloat and to get wifi calling.
As far as bootloader, that has no effect on the SIM card working. The OP would need a v2 bootloader firmware if his current firmwarealso had the v2 bootload. It probably does, so thats a moot point, but the implication was the v2 bootloader was the only one that would make his SIM work.
I hope the OP got it all figured out.

plus the second SIM wouldn't have an IMEI assigned to it.
And I agree the OPs best bet is to flash thr T-Mobile firmware. But his issue was he wasnt getting a signal at all with his T-Mo SIM. Flashing firmware won't fix that. Source: I have a VZW Note 8 on T-Mo. Used it with the VZW firmware and a T-Mo SIM with no issues.

Another user had SIM issues and flashed back to factory (theirs was unlocked) then changed carriers and SIM worked again...sometimes a clean flash can work...
Hi all. For me I flash all firmware at clean wipe, never any issues. I have an unlock AT&T Note 8 unlock running the latest Verizon firmware with VZW SIM active. I also have a t-mobile S8+ unlock and running the latest U1 firmware and working with Verizon SIM active. I constantly switch my firmware between tmobile, verizon and at&t to see performance and what ever else feature added.

How did you get ATT N8 to work on VZW? I flashed my Tmo to VZW and i could never get speeds above 1mpbs. Even with unlocked firmware it did not get anywhere with VZW. I heard that its because the IMEI is not in VZWs database.
Hi there. My AT&T Note 8 works great on Verizon network, it's running the latest N950U1 Firmware 2BQL2, everything works great. It will work good on T-Mobile too, lately tmobile network giving trouble, sometimes less than 1 mbps on download. Since June 2017 I been having trouble with tmobile network in my area and around, so I switch to Verizon, couldn't bother the crappie service. My location I get 215 mbps on my note 8, IPhone 8 plus 147mbps download. I prefer Tmobile but it's not working good in area anymore.

I currently have a Verizon Note 8 with a TMO SIM and I'm getting 4GLTE but a few problems. Most of the incoming calls forward to voicemail and all outgoing calls the data has to drop completely before the call can connect. Will doing the carrier switching updates listed in the link above as well as flashing T-Mobile firmware assist with this problem? The phone is on 2BQK2 currently.

Verizion note8 with tmobile sim card
This is what happened when I changed carriers from the original verizon note8, on verizon network, with verizon sim and the most recent verizon pie update, to a carriers sim, that is tmobile service. And what happens, I didn't even think was possible... I put the new carriers sim in, truconnect, booted and let the phone register the new sim and network. Checked for update.... the was one, let the phone download and update. And you know how Verizon's boot logo is... it wasn't anymore. Booted the tmobile boot logo and sounds, strange. I'm not super noob and the little bit of knowledge and experience that I do have with roms and updates across carriers usually require physically flashing the rom. Correct me if I'm mistaking. Continuing.... optimizing apps....., huh?! The update flashed the tmobile software, without effecting any personally installed apps. Though the update did remove all the verzion software/bloatware, without permissions, and installed tmobile apps. 2 that are meant for user usage. They are tmobiles device unlock and the tmobile app. Which I might add, do not function, I surmise, because in not on the actual main tmobile network, but a scabbed on. I have never seen or experienced anything of the short. Please tell me if this is normal.? I was a bit upset. I did not give any carrier the permission to delete or install any app on my phone. But maybe things have changed since I dabbled. And If they have, maybe this might help the people that have been using Odin to get tmobile version rom while originally being a verzion phone. I dont think it's normal. Please tell me if this has happened to you.

VZW to U1 firmware - Will it help my issues?

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can answer a few questions before I flash my phone (or waste my time doing so).
I'm using a Verizon Branded Note 10+ (N975U). However, it's carrier unlocked and being used on Total Wireless (a Verizon MVNO - subsidiary of TracFone).
I'm not getting OTA updates because I'm no longer on "real" verizon service. I verified this by waiting 5 weeks for the Android 10 update, and then popped in a friends VZW SIM and got the update instantly. I'm now behind again (Verizon dropped their most recent update over a month ago w/Jan security patch) and receiving "no update available" using the update firmware option in settings.
Additionally, my total wireless SIM can't populate an APN, and I've had nothing but problems with my data as a result. I'm assuming this is because of the VZW CSC, but not sure.
I'm thinking of flashing to the most current U1 firmware, and hoping/assuming this will resolve my problems. Wondering if anyone has any feedback.
If I do it, should I flash the VZW CSC again, or use the TFN CSC for Tracfone, or XAA for default? Do I need to hard reset? Official or Modded Odin? Etc.. Any help would be appreciated.
A little further info: If I put an AT&T SIM card into my phone, it will populate the AT&T APN from the SIM card, so I'm assuming my APN issue is that Total Wireless still uses the VZW CSC, and there's a conflict that Verizon firmware overrides the APN setup aspect. However, my Total Wireless SIM card works perfectly fine and populates the APN on my Unlocked S9+. This is a big part of what makes me think going to U1 will help my issues.
Yes flash the U1, you won't have any issues and will be even better on total wireless. I did the same for MetroPCS

Did you set the APN information correctly?
Also are you using the N975U1 firmware or the standard AT&T firmware?
Are you using the BYOD sim card from straight talk?
What have you done over the phone with Straight Talk as far as troubleshooting? - this one can be important. If the phone isn't working with straight talk only it maybe a configuration (apn setting) or provisioning issue.
Are you sure the device is compatible with the area or region your in?
What provider/tower (Verizon, AT&T, etc.) does straight talk have you going through?
More information on what you have done to setup the phone for straight talk, troubleshooting steps you have taken, what information straight talk may have provided (etc. etc.) will help others be able to help you. Providing little or no details makes it rather hard to offer any help.
The apn won't let me put dun in the type I sim unlocked it with a puk code and got strighttalk byop I tried flashing the U1 firmware to it wouldn't take it so I did a Verizon firmware thinking that might help and same thing with the striaght talk it doesn't wanna work i put a Verizon sim in it and it works just like it did on ATT so I'm confused as to why the straight talk sim won't work they can't figure it out on their end either
I factory reset the phone reset network settings did just about everything I could with the phone besides it being funny about the apn cuz it says apn cannot be changed on this device if you put dun in the apn type i dunno the only thing I notice is when the Verizon sim card is in the phone the network mode is set to global whereas with the striaght talk its LTE/CDMA and it won't let you change it to global

Straight Talk uses different mobile providers to offer service different areas.. They utilize Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile (Sprint and T-Mobile have merged recently, but Sprint towers are still active).
I have seen posts across the internet that indicate you should be using the U1 firmware on the phone.. I would make sure your converting the phone to the U1 firmware properly.
If I recall correctly (this is how I did it previously) when flashing the U1 firmware make sure your doing it without the sim card installed and using the non home_csc file. Factory data reset the phone after you successfully flash the U1 firmware and then insert the sim card after setting the phone back up (so it can apply the new sim/network settings).
I would strongly suggest you do not restore a backup during initial setup when you do this. If you restore a backup it may restore previous network settings/configurations that were for what you had previously.
If flashing U1 firmware doesn't help (and since this this is a Straight Talk specific issue) then it's more then likely on the end of Straight Talk. I would call them and make sure that your sim card is the correct one for the cell towers they have you going through and the phone you have. Using an incompatible sim card (or one that is faulty) can cause issues like this. You can also have them send you another sim card to try.
Also contact them to make sure the service is properly provisioned and activated on your phone. Double check the APN with them, and see if they have an alternative one to try. It is also possible that a service outage maybe (or issue with Straight Talk internally) in your area, so I would call them to make sure that neither are not the case here.

The Global setting doesn't really matter in this case and your phone will be set to use the towers that Straight Talk has you going through.
The only thing that I can think of that would be a problem with network mode is if your sim card from straight talk is meant for a different provider then the towers they use in your area (i.e. sim card is for AT&T but the provider they have for the area is Sprint).
the straight Talk sim works in other phones no problem a s8 and a older note im thinking att has something in the software to block other apns i dunno i unlocked it with a PUK code and flashed verizon firmware on it thinking i could get passed it but the verizon sim works 100% and the att sim works 100% too but a straighttalk sim card (verizon) towers the phone tries it shows 4g and disappears and then it shows it has service but cant call it just says emergency calls only

I would not use older phones as a means to say the sim card is good. Besides that's irrelevant to what is going on with the Note 10+

Then this means one of two things... Either you didn't get the phone unlocked or else you did not convert to another carrier (or the U1 firmware XAA region) correctly.
If your using the unlocked firmware (U1 XAA region) then you should be able to edit the APN. If not then you should be able to create one.

That sounds like either the sim card isn't good, the phone was not activated/provisioned properly in there systems (call them and double check IMEI and model information), the phone is not compatible with the service they offer in your area (I suggest using the XAA region U1 firmware in this case) or else your phone is not fully unlocked.
I would also suggest google searching or else asking them for any updated or alternative APN's to try. It maybe very likely the one you have is not suitable for the phone/area... It wouldn't be the first time I have had an issue similar to this like this.
I am opt to believe the first 3 are the most likely scenarios since the phone works on Verzion with the sim card per your indication.
Yeah and the only reason I tried the older phone is to see if the sim card is activate with the number and the phone itself pulled the apn from network when I tried to flash to U1 the phone gave me a error but it took the Verizon firmware for the 975U but its still not working do you know of a good link for the firmware your talking about so I can try that

From personal experience I would advise in the future you don't do that. When you activate the phone you should activate the one you are using and definitely do not use an older phone to activate a newer phone. I have had many problems with this in the past as provisioning for an older phone didn't always work for my newer ones..

I waited for you to give more information on the issue, but you didn't. So I am sorry, but if you don't provide the details of what is going on it makes helping you very difficult. You didn't say what error you are getting, what the firmware version(s) are of what your trying to flash and what is currently on the phone.
Here's the last piece of help I can offer now.
I can tell you that the following can be found on the forum by searching:
Links and how to obtain the firmware - Multiple threads asking the same question exist here. Also Frija, SamFirm, SamMobile are just a few examples of what can be found referenced here.
Bootloader version(s) - what will happen when you try to downgrade and what will happen (along with a important thing) when you upgrade.
Websites to find firmware - SamMobile and some others have been mentioned.
Patched Odin - In case you need the latest version it has been mentioned here already.
I can also tell you that by using Google and searching for SM-975U1 XAA on Sammobile does in fact work.

Help Flashing Samsung Galaxy S10+ from VZW to Strait-Talk

Hey everyone,
I'm new to flashing phones but have experience flashing other hardware; still, I felt it prudent to ask for some guidance on this being my first attempt:
I have a Straight-Talk phone which is active and working with 4G that I would like to swap the SIM over to use in my Galaxy S10+ from Verizon.
Swapping the SIM without flashing limited the functionality to be contingent on WiFi; 4G would not work correctly.
So I suspect I'll need to flash with unlocked firmware to get it to work properly.
I have downloaded the G975U1_SAU_1.zip which is what I think I'll be needing to pull this off, as well as the latest available download of Odin (3.14.1).
Before I get started, I'd just like to ask some Questions:
Should I leave the intended SIM (Straight-Talk) in the S10+ (Verizon) while I'm flashing, or insert it after the flashing?
Am I using the correct firmware to flash this Verizon phone to work with Strait-Talk? (United States regions)
Also should I back up the intended SIM in some fashion before proceeding with this process (if so what software if any would be advisable for this?)
Is there anything I need to watch out for?
Am I on the right track for what I'm attempting to do?
Thanks in advanced for any help! :highfive:

Insert SIM after flashing. You need the current U1 firmware from sam mobile. You also need the patched version of Odin that's floating around the forums here. No need to backup your SIM, but using Odin will reset your phone to brand new. Nothing that I can think of, you just put the correct Odin file in each slot and hit go. Seems like you're onto it, you need 3 things which are patched Odin, latest firmware, and I think phone drivers so your PC recognizes the phone. Should be able to find these on Samsung website or other parts of the web.
Thanks for the support!
After your encouragement, I rechecked my firmware made sure to acquire the USB Drivers from Samsung.
Successfully flashed the phone and its now working as intended!
:victory:
I used the Frija tool mentioned here to make sure I had the right files.
And the Driver install came from here.
Thanks again for your support! :highfive:

Absolutely!
Anything I can do to help pay it forward.
I should also mention I got my CSC code from the list posted at

(Won't let me post the outside link given that I'm new)
The code was required to use Frija to download the correct firmware.
(The 4GB download averaged at 2.5MB/s)
Here is the list I saw on the aforementioned page; I used XAA

Random questions:
If you start with a Tmobile GM-S975U that is carrier unlocked (got unlock code from tmobile)
Will it work just fine with straight talk? If not Does changing the CSC code work, and to which code?
Is different firmware required? like U1?

The U1 software for the S-10 plus is strait from Samsung and has no carrier bloat. All US S-10 pluses are the same, no matter who the carrier is. That means you can flash any vendors rom as long as you don't go backwards on the bootloader version. The phone gets set up by the simm card installed on the first boot. The good things about the U1 software is there is no vendor bloat and your updates come straight from Samsung. Don't forget, you have to us the customized Odin to flash with.
Deatailed info and Odin link can be found here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/guide-g975f-flashing-megathread-faqs-t3936704
Thanks for the reply. Should straight talk just work? My friend says data isn’t working on tmo firmware. What firmware and Csc code would work with them?
curious, do mobile Hotspot work, or is carrier still able to block it?

General Don't Purchase A Verizon Unlocked Galaxy S21 FE

I've purchased a Verizon unlocked Galaxy s21 FE and am trying to use it on Mint Mobile. It connects for about 5 minutes but then 5G and reception go to 0 and a message saying "sorry, your device can't be activated on another carrier's network right now. For help, contact Verizon." pops up. I believe I could solve the issue by changing the CSC region code but don't want to trip KNOX. These are things I tried:
Phone Dialer */# commands did not work to change CSC or even show IMEI. Might be Verizon locked or Android 12 locked.
Flashing XAA region firmware did not help the issue even though it cleared all verizon bloatware and splash screen.
Flashing another carrier's (Tmobile) firmware and accidentally updated my bootloader to Binary 3 .
I believe that a potential fix is to flash android 11 from Verizon and maybe the phone dialer commands will work to change CSC.
Anyway, this has been a real headache and I just want to use my phone like normal on my selected carrier. Be careful with phones that have VZW region codes!!!
EDIT: I have the SM-G990U Snapdragon US model of the Galaxy S21 FE. Android 12 and 4.1 UI.
EDIT 2: The OEM Unlock Option does not exist on my phone even after becoming a developer.
You ever able to get this working?
