Hi,
I have a Vietnam made Galaxy Note N7100 which is almost not usable, unit does not comes with any warranty as it is an export set. It runs on the default ROM and is not rooted. Initially the unit works well for a few hours after installing some apps and did some customisation, after I locked the phone, the phone seems to go into deep sleep. I'm not even able to shut off the phone. Worse still, taking out the battery and put in back after mins do not work. To turn the set on again, I got to take out the battery for a few hours or so, then I can start the unit again.
I initially thought it might be some software conflict, I did a factory reset and leave the phone there for a while, the issue persisted.
It is also not the battery issue as I have use the same battery on another N7100 and it works well.
Is there any advice on what can I do to remedy this issue?
Thanks

It seems like a software issue, I would install 4.1.2 jelly bean stock rom. Using Odin. As you cam see its out already Here is the link you can go to and follow the instructions. Good luck man.

This came to me as well, but the set auto shut off before I can even root the unit.
Have a fix for you guys
I had the same problem after some messed up rom flash. If my Note 2's screen goes off for more than 10 seconds, I wouldn't be able to wake it back up without reboot... It was basically in an unusable state. Luckily after 2 whole days of digging I've found the solution.
1. Go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915386
2. Scroll about 1/3rd of the way down and look for the attachment "BOOTLOADER_N7100.zip"
3. Flash the BOOTLOADER_N7100.zip with Odin using the Bootloader field
That's it!
Good luck guys. I created an account specifically to answer this question. It was a major pain in the ass finding a fix for this problem so I wanted to make sure I spread the fix on this issue so others don't need to suffer through the same thing.
SOS please
i now have the same issue where i tried the liquid rom on my n7100...as soon as it installed my phone started switching itself off within 5 secs and show a red battery light..and no love nor money can I get it on without rebooting..
i tried the bootloader in Odin after re installing the stock rom..but as soon as i select start..it fails??
Anything else?
I am also experiencing shutdowns with my Vietnam unit. I have 4.1.2 original ROM and I tried many possibilities to solve it. No success. The phone shuts off if I start an online radio (or tunein radio) and after max 2 min it shuts off. Doesn't matter if is on data plan or through router.
Had a problem of the phone freezing and had to restart the phone. Then again it would freeze after some time. Flashed stock rom with bootloader and pit but it still persisted. Sent it to the service centre and got my phone back yesterday after mb change. The new mb is with the newer firmware.

I also sent mine to service, let's see what comes back.
My vietnam unit has ben running fine for the last 4 months. Updated to stock 4.1.2 and rooted.

This is a real problem with the Galaxy Note 2. I built a quick site to showcase the problem and to post a video that shows exactly what is happening. I am unable to post external links, so just copy and paste the following domain in to a new browser, making sure to remove and replace the DOTs: wwwDOTgalaxynote2shutsoffDOTcom
note 2 switching off by its self
Had same problem, I switched of data, wi-fi bleutooth, gps, switched them on again 1 at a time.
Phone worked ok untill bluetooth was on again, then it shut down. I think the problem is with Bt.
I emailed samsung support who suggested i connect to kies to check i had latest firmware but i
knew i had, they also suggested a factory data restset, (settings- back up and reset- factory data reset).
Did this last week phone has been working fine since.
Hope this helps.
HORRIBLE

Same problem here, BT not working and my Note hangs every time the screen shuts off. I can wake it up immediately but after 8-10 seconds I am unable to turn it on again, must hard reset or take off the battery... No solution found so far. Flashing stock fails on sboot.bin also...
I have early version of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and according to emmccheck (?) I have insane chip. Last week my mobile phone is really messy. It freezes suddenly and I have to remove battery to start it again. Somethimes softbuttons does not work and sometime only notification bar works - I can roll up and down.
First I was thinking that it was because of battery - it has frozen mostly when I was always on low battery. Then it start frozen when I was on 50 % and so I was thinking it is facebook messenger. Because it frozen always when I was using chat. So I uninstall facebook messenger and it does not help, it still randomly freezes. It was very bad because one day I had to remove battery almost every 30 minut, so I uninstall facebook app and it was working.. but only for few hours. So then I made factory reset and then it was ok for the whole day. But today it has frozen again and I had to remove battery.
So I am scared of SDS. I do not want to go for service center because I need my phone. I was waiting for Note 3, so I was thinking that it will be ok to the new phone. But I am afraid that my phone will suddenly bricked and I read that Samsung warranty is really bad and they will not admit my warranty.
So what do you think guys? Is it SDS?
Thanks for help

Hello, it doesn't show any signs of sds, sds is a sudden moment a dead forever, which cannot be restored without replacing the motherboard. You should try to factory reset the phone, then check if it still continues.

It's not SDS, I think you just need to flash another firmware which has a fix for freezes (because I had the same problem with two different firmwares, until I flashed a correct one which has fixes for freezing issues) and of course don't forget to clean your cache, and wipe your data.

Do some research guys. SDS is a hardware issue where the phone gets bricked in certain situations.
In 4.1.2, SDS is averted by freezing the phone whenever the OS identifies that one of the "certain situations" applies.
The good point is that you no longer get a brick and can retrieve your data. Your phone is still fcuked though. back it up, unroot it and clear any counters then return it for motherboard (EMMC Chip) replacement.
I've been experiencing similar issues with my device (freezing, choppiness etc),
and it also suffers from the "insane chip issue".
does anyone here have any recommendations on what i can do to rule out that its indeed the brickbug issue?
If I were you, I will reset the binary count, flash stock recovery thru odin and reset the devices status imediately. Flash back stock rom thru odin and send it back to sscc immediately.
Sscc will replace your motherboard within 3 hours with foc. ( my country malaysia).
About sds issue it has syndrome especially you has upgraded to 4.1.2. The freezes just the sign of sds gonna happen.

Hello everyone! I own a Galaxy Nexus that's running one of the Cyanogenmod 4.4 snapshots. While watching a youtube video my phone froze up and shut itself off. I rebooted and after a few moments the same thing happened. When I power up my phone one of two things happen. It either reboots while booting and automatically attempts to boot again or it manages to turn on for a short while and then turns itself off.
I believed the issue was a battery or hardware one at first but after leaving my phone booted in recovery for half an hour with no ill effects I think something else might be up. What do you guys think is the best course of action? The only thing I've done is a factory reset that has done nothing.
Anyone?

Factory Reset and reflash the rom. If that doesn't work try flashing another rom like Vanir. If your phone still shuts off...well unfortunately this may be a hardware related issue, nothing you can do if that's the case. Unless it's your battery which I highly doubt.
I think it's the same thing that happened to me a year ago, check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/help/bricked-phone-t2306672
for me it was a hw related problem, i had to send the phone back to assistance and have it repaired (it was still under warranty).
Good luck :good:
Thank you all for your ideas. I'll report back my findings later today.
Same problem over here. Tried a lot of roms (custom and stock from Google page), took it to assistance (no warranty though) was told is a hardware issue. Since replacing the mainboard its the same price as a new phone... well you know.
But a curios thing happened: tried to flash the Ubuntu Touch rom, same problem (reboots at Ubuntu start screen) and the Firefox-OS, that one worked (considering it's limitations obviously)!
My note 4 randomly freezes and goes to black. It also randomly restarts, gets stuck, and then restarts again. It's very annoying, if I want to check something, I hit the home button and the phone is frozen on the lock screen. Random apps are also crashing but instead if just closing the app my phone's screen just shuts off and I can't get into the phone for at least a minute. I don't know what the problem is and I really don't want to factory reset my phone.
I would pull the battery and take out the SD card (if you have one) and sim card and boot it up and see if that helps.
If u r using de-bloatware app then try restoring all the apps.
Factory reset, don't install anything and see if it continues. Then start installing a couple of apps till it happens again, try to identify the offending
App.
Same here.. Just started happening 2 weeks ago.. I have yet to find the offending app. ****ing ATT and their ****ty note 4 ughhhh
Happening to me too. Even after factory reset, and in Safe mode. I think it is from the June 16, update. I plan on taking it in to the att store and having them flash the new update to the phone. Thinking maybe my over the air update got screwed up somehow.
I put mine on ultimate power saving mode at night to keep it from dying since I forgot my charger. When I woke up, I tried to turn off ultimate power saving mode, but the option was gone. I rebooted and it got stuck at the att boot logo. I took it to the att store and they said I'd have to file a claim on insurance and that they can't fix it.
I cane home and connected it to adb to see if I could back up my files. Without sending a command to it, it wiped itself and factory reset. I lost everything, but since then I have had no issues.
Mine started doing this a couple of weeks ago. Factory reset twice, sd card out. Still doing it. Had to go back to note 3. With sd card and sim card out it seems to work ok on WiFi only.. No stuttering or force closes since?

Mine was doing the same thing. Turns out the battery was taking a crap. New battery and no more issues. For myself at least.
Mine is unusable. It boots into download mode half the time after factory reset. When I get it to boot up it only lasts for 15 minutes then resets again and gets stuck

Try what I did accidently. Connect to your pc. Boot into recovery lode and see if you can connect with adb. Then connect to with adb sideload and let it sit there. Maybe send a few commands and see if it will do like mine. It might get it to unhang. You might lose everything if it restores, but it might do like mine.

Mine mostly ok, albeit chained to at&t FIRMWARE, but I do get an odd eeror: when in a call the phone will make a a keypad tone,as though I'm leaning on the keypad [not], often mid-Bluetooth handsfree calls. It last 2-4 seconds, long enough to interrupt the flow of a call. anyone ?
I have had tons of apps update as of late. I too am experiencing lag, lock ups, black screen. I thought I was alone.
Had a friend's Note 4 do the same only he was on Sprints network. He was not rooted and on MM. I tried a factory reset and it helped for an hour or two then it went back to random rebooting or apps freezing. I tried flashing factory software through ODIN. It was good for an hour then went back to random reboots and apps freezing. I tried another ODIN flash without restoring any of his apps and the same thing happened. I tried changing the battery and that wasn't it, I removed the SD card and that wasn't it either.
He had to take it to Sprint and they ended up just giving him an S7.

I started having this problem just after the update. I tried to switch the battery out and tried to take SD card out. I factory reset it about 3 times now. Nothing has solved it.
I took it into AT&T, and even though I'm not under warranty anymore (had phone for almost 2 years now), they worked with me and ended up giving me a new s7.
I suggest you go talk to AT&T because this is a problem with all AT&T Note 4's. Tell them you want it fixed and talk to the managers and get them to contact the corporate help desk. Don't leave without them fixing it. You paid $900 for this phone.
Gave you a new S7? Or swapped it out on a next contract?

I did not pay a dime. But you have to show them that it freezes and crashes even after they factory reset it
Just left an [email protected] store. He looked at me like I had 3 heads. He had never heard of such. Will call corporate and work my way down.
I did hold a S7 edge.... it was a thing of beauty and speed. No ir though... it's why I like note 4
Works without sim
I've had the exact same issues, (Galaxy Note 4 on AT&T). Tried factory reset, wiping cache, re-flashing with odin, removing SD card, removing apps, multiple batteries, etc.... the only thing that has worked so far is removing the SIM card. It runs flawless without it. Currently using my S3 for calls and text and use the note 4 like a giant iPod touch on wifi only. Hoping this is a software issue AT&T will correct but knowing them..... best bet is probably to wait until August and get the new Note 7.
Why not try the MM update that is out right now, it´s not an OTA but by just renaiming the file to update.zip, putting it in your ds card and applying it through recovery you will have a practically new phone, it´s worth the try.
I´m ruuning it and it´s been great so far, no bugs, no errors.
Hello guys,
I just bought a brand new A5 2017 from a carrier centre and it restarts on an almost hourly basis. It works for maybe 1 or 2 hours normal, and then restarts by itself. When it boots up, I get messages of random apps crashing and then it restarts again. Once it restarted within minutes of each boot. I don't know the reason for this.
I have tried hard reset, soft reset, even flashing an AP firmware from Germany (I'm from Bosnia and Herzegovina), but with no luck. The phone just restarts when it wants.
Also tried safe mode, the same problem persists.
Any advice?

Try stock recovery and do factory reset. Vol. up, home and power buton. Btw. i think they are selling sh.t to eastern Europe (im from Croatia). I had bootloop on second day with A5 (2017). CPU was hot as hell. Recovery did not work, only desplaying error. But after 4-5 reset it came to normal. I was sending error log to samsung, they never answerd.

Yes. After a gazillion factory resets (soft and hard), I performed a repair (initialization, if that's what the Smart Switch calls it) of the phone through the Smart Switch. It booted up and all was well until it restarted again. Next thing that I did was: wipe everything via a hard reset, and then repair the phone through Smart Switch. This was about 2-3 hours ago. Did run into 2 crashes (Google Play Services and Chrome) but I think it was related to the syncing, but no restarts and I hope not in the future.
Im glad to hear that. That was a softweare problem.

Just to give you an update. Unfortunately, the phone restarted again today, so I returned it to the carrier. They said they will send it for testing, and that I will most likely get a new device. Seems that it actually wasn't a software problem; my guess is that EMMC has a fault.
