Freezing browser input - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

I am using Opera as my browser and the OS is 10.0.16.HD65AA. Often when I start typing a long post into an edit window of Opera the input frezzes. That is I am still typing on a GBord, it shows me suggestions for misspelled words, I can backspace and I see text changing in the keyboard's suggestion row, but... text in the text input field is not updating.
I have to wait around 10 seconds for it to unfreeze and update, often I have to click somewhere in the middle of the earlier writen text to force update within the same 10 seconds. I have already tried to switch off non-essential options of gboard like spell checking to no avail.
This is not new, I remember I had the same on my previous Pixel. It just stopped to happen at some point, I just don't remember what has triggered the change. Any leads maybe? Am I alone with the problem?

Does your whole phone freeze or only the browser?
I have a similar problem with Vivaldi, I normally just switch to the homescreen and back to the browser to unfreeze it immadietly.
It probably is problem with the app not the phone, you could try testing a different browser Firefox/Kiwi for example.

Not even a browser, I can still scroll the page. That is only input text field doesn't update.

You should test a different browser just to isolate the cause, you could also try to use a different keyboard app swiftkey for example and see if the issue persists.

This defeats both the purpose and the experiment. But I have tried it. Using any other browser is simply a nightmare obscuring the initial problem: all that panning and scrolling, random moving of input controls etc basically forces mistypes which is the way to unfreeze Opera in the first place. Honestly I don't know how people are using other browsers on Android if they have to write texts there.
Anyhow, the same problem exists in FF and Chrome. It is just not the biggest of their problems, so bothers less.
The main point here: I really had the same issue on Pixel and it has disappeared somehow, I don't remember how unfortunately. So I know it is possible to get rid of it. My question was: probably someone knows how.

Problem is solved with Android 11 FW.

Home Screen Pinch stopped working

I have a Desire running HTC Sense, and I have just noticed that the home screen pinch has stopped working. Does anyone have any idea's why this would have stopped working?
The only apps I have installed that I think could effect it are the "Home Switcher" and "HelixLauncher2", but I am currently using the Sense launcher as my current and default one.
Thanks,
Rob
Mine stops working every now and then too (i'll bet you've lost pinch to zoom in google maps and photos too?)
A reboot will sort it out, but my money is on some app i've downloaded that screws with it once opened. I don't have the ones you mentioned.
It happens to me all the time when I switch to Android keyboard to use the speech to text functionality. When I switch back to the original keyboard it works fine.
Press 'Home' when on Main screen, does it work? If so, Looks like it may be a 'Pinch Gesture' issue. If not, A Home replacement App Possibly

Actually, that reminds me that i have swype installed - i'll bet that's what's stopping my pinch to zoom from working. I really don't miss it and would rather have Swype
Rebooting does fix it. I have Swype also so looks like that could be causing it.
My friend and I both have Swype installed and can confirm that this happens to us on a regular basis too.

even if Swype is not active? it effects the pinch to zoom? what do you do to fix it, change the keyboard layout to android one and than the pinch works or even with that sometimes it stays this way?
I have the same issue, with the home screen, photo's and browsing. Happend twice now, just reboot the phone and it's working fine for a while.
I too believe it's something I have downloaded, doesn't bother me that much and I can't be bothered trying to work out which app in might be. Maybe when I'm bored one day I'll have a look through.
I have the same issue when I have swype keybord activated. its intermittant, but annoying. and a re-boot always seems to fix it.
Not the same as I don't have that keyboard installed I do however have Smart keyboard pro.
Do you guys HAVE to reboot to fix it!!! I think just making any other keyboard the default (by press-holding, and selecting input method) would solve it!!
Interesting, because Swype + Desire port to the N1 doesn't have this problem.
I have the same issue, but I don't have swype installed. I have installed the Scandinavian keyboard with support for gestures tough. I have turned off gestures, going to see if that helps.
Regards,
PK
As far as I can tell, it happens whenever you change input method. So even changing from a 3rd party back to the HTC default will lose it. Reboot always fixes.
Mods, this is a common enough question that it might be worth stickying it? Seen about 5 threads in the last 2 weeks.

Exactly this.
If you change keyboards, just reboot and all pinch functionality will return. Annoying, but I don't change often enough to notice it. If you change and change back, then the pinch functionality remains without a reboot.

Not true on my device! Switching from HTC keyboard to Scandinavian keyboard by long press in any text field definitely breaks pinch-to-zoom (with or without gestures enabled in the Scandinavian keyboard). Switching back to HTC keyboard restores the pinch-to-zoom functionality in all applications.
Rebooting with Scandinavian keyboard enabled will cause pinch-to-zoom to work until a switch to HTC keyboard and back again is performed.
I'm a noob to Android, just got my Desire yesterday. I installed GOOGLES GOGGLES,GOOGLE MAPS and BATTERY WIDGET,and had the same pinch-problem. I uninstalled the apps again, problem solved. Didn't try to reboot though. But I'm glad to hear that the reboot will solve the problem, would be a shame if we couldn't have any apps installed without problems!

[Q] Keyboard auto-correct settings

Sorry if this has been brought up before. I did some searching, but wasn't able to find any other threads on the topic. Basically, it seems like prediction/auto correct/dictionary randomly turns off, especially in the browser. More frustratingly, it will sometimes turn on for one form, only to turn off again in the next form.
Galaxy Nexus running 4.0.2 on Verizon. Any ideas? Thanks
Not alone
I have the same experience. For giggles i tried Swift Key X. Same behavior. So it seems to be more browser-related.

I agree, definitely browser related. I tried Opera and it wasn't a problem there (though the rest of that browser sucked lol). I really like the stock browser and stock keyboard. Hopefully a fix makes its way out soon... maybe in 4.0.3?
To clarify for others, by the way, it seems like there are a few things I can say about this problem:
-It doesn't occur in all fields, but most. On a certain notorious website, the captcha field enables auto correct, while the message field doesn't.
-It only occurs in the Browser, though i think i noticed it once in Facebook.
-It's immediately obvious when it's on or off. The suggestion bar is missing, and when typing you get no auto correct, no dictionary support, and no spelling corrections. Auto capitalization, however, contniues to work when you start a new sentence.
For the record, I was at Best Buy yesterday, and the Nexus S (Gingerbread, of course) did NOT exhibit this problem in the stock browser.
My apologies for any spelling mistakes, you can probably guess why.

Yeah this started occurring newly in Android 4.0. I've noticed it on other phones running 4.0, definitely has something to do with the browser.
Hey, just wanted to bump this to say I just installed GummyNex (4.0.3) and the problem is fixed.

Cursor Jumping In Text Box!

Trying to isolate this. I don't know where it came from.
It's survived multiple versions of AOKP even with full wipes.
When entering text, such a sad typing this, in any box including sms, if I try to move the cursor to correct some text the cursor will jump around and disappear. Somewhere a word or part of a word will be underlined.
I cannot control where that ends up.
It happens in all boxes. In all browsers. With different keyboards.
Does anyone else have this seriously annoying issue or an idea of what it is?
I get this sometimes, but only when using SwiftKey 3 beta.
When it starts doing it, I just pull down the notification Window and select input method, then choose android keyboard... It stops and I switch back when I'm done with the offending app (usually chrome beta).
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
When I 1st noticed it I was using swift key 3 beta and chrome.
I don't think its a coincidence.
But it now happens even with the stock keyboard and opera, or in SMS. Just not as often.
What ROM are you using?
I get this when trying to type a long message into a text field in the browser. Its really obnoxious.

I'm using BAMF Paradigm... whatever the latest is.
I get this only in web browser text boxes, and only with large amounts of text. Its always done it since 4.0.1.
But SMS, tapatalk, Gmail, none of those have the issue. Ever.
stock 4.04 rooted. i get this w/ swiftkey 2 n 3 beta
Why don't you just move the cursor with the volume keys?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Cause I'm odd. I used AOKP and Apex but have the operation pretty much factory.
That feature bugs me.
I froze swift key and have not had the issue at all since.
I think we can call it.
Let's file the bug reports!

Stock keyboard clearing field randomly

Not sure if it's just my luck, but one thing I've noticed is when typing in a login field it clears randomly. Using stock keyboard and CleanRom currently. Happens in stock as well. Only thing that I can find to get around is getting my email added to the dictionary prediction field and swiping it in. Is it just me? Basically I type out s-h-a-m-p-o-o *bam, cleared*. Sometimes I get through a couple more letters, sometimes I don't. It's a bit frustrating.
Any one else or any ideas?

Random web page freezes (Samsung Keyboard, Spell Checking and Google Chrome)

Have you noticed random web page freezes (around 10 seconds), when writing posts using Google Chrome with Samsung Keyboard, Spell Checking on? Not browser, just the web page.
I even noticed a couple of freezes when browsing through online stores, and I think it's related to a keyboard, because I brought it up when changing product quantity numbers.
Spell checking also appears to be broken. When word is underlined indicating there's spelling error, clicking word only shows empty box, this leads me to believe it's related to freezes.
If you experienced it, have you figured out a way to fix this?
When writing long posts, these occasional freezes can wreak chaos, because while page is frozen, any additional words you type and accidental edits you make, appear after page unfreezes. It also wastes time, because if you're editing something in the middle of the text, you can't continue writing, and have to wait for unfreeze.
Off-topic question:
When writing a long post, accidentally hitting back or home button can be upsetting - the post is gone. Can you make browser remember these posts, so you can return and continue writing? So far my solution is to select all and copy, which is tedious.
Thanks.
Update
I noticed Chrome freezes randomly even without opening Samsung keyboard, simply browsing the web and page freezes. I also thought it's not the browser but the web page, but opening tab switcher while the page is frozen and opening a new tab sometimes (when the page freezes randomly while browsing the web), freezes entire browser, after around 10 seconds browser unfreezes. Any fix suggestions or what can be causing this? Tried wiping cache, but didn't help, I don't think reinstall will help, but I'll try it after some backing up.
Try this test, browse, XDA for example, through Chrome on your S20 devices for a weak, no PC or other devices or apps, write posts, etc, and report your results here. I also don't have any ad-blocking/ad-free, so to reproduce this enable ads as well.
Also, try using it with Samsung keyboard to maybe make problem more reproducible. Enable spell checking in keyboard settings, so words become underlined. Also enable dark mode.
I'm worried maybe it's RAM? Or SSD?
Hope not.. * sigh *
Edit
Searched the web more thoroughly this time, and apparently this is a big issue. Google search: s20 chrome freezing.
Some think it's related to 120 Hz mode, but then report it's freezing on 60 Hz as well, so seems like not refresh rate related. People even report this freezing occurs on Android system WebView powered apps.
No fix yet.
