CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, or any other ROMs?

Would Cyanogen Mod be interested in developing for this phone now that we have unlocked bootloader? Given the choice, I'd love Paranoid Android, but I went hold my breath.

Seems that are only for ZE551ML I hope that will be compatible with ZE550ML

If someone can get pure AOSP or CM working, the ROMs will flow out like water... once a base is established building many ROMs is easy. If we get CM, then look for ROMs like Beanstalk, BlissPop, Carbon, , etc. to follow closely behind. Patience, it will happen...

Yay! I really hope Paranoid Android follows suit. I LOVE Pa's Halo feature.

custom roms will help this phone.zenny 2 has one of the worst stock firmware optimization ever and seems like asus cant fix the problems.

Good to see Asus is showing commitment to this phone. Also great to see you guys are embracing the aftermarket ROM community. More vendors need to be supportive like this.

We love the enthusiast community - you guys are the ones that like to tinker and have contributed to our growth over the years when we were just a motherboard vendor. I bet many of you still have fond memories of building PCs with our components before tinkering with phones .

Awesome! Is there/will there be collaboration with the developers regarding the kernel and device tree from ASUS as well? That would be key to have a fully-working custom ROM in the nearer future (versus the developers having to learn from scratch and sort of fend for themselves, kludging their way along and delaying the end goal).
So exciting!

We post our kernel source, but that's all we can offer, unfortunately. Our software development is done at our Taiwan HQ. But if any devs need anything, just send me a PM and I'll ask our software team.

Just got one single request... Open an official outlet or distributer in Pakistan... I am buying your items off international vendors without warranties... Would love to see if I can get some support locally...

This makes not much sense to me honestly. Why locking a bootloader in the first place and then stating to push development hard by providing test phones to specified devs?
But still I want to thank you for your commitment in making this phone a huge success - we'll kick Galaxy and Xperia and the likes out once done

Good thing to see Asus sharing to make custom ROMs efficient.
Already on Harfainx's ROM, can't wait to see things going even further.

This is my push from Technical Marketing for North America due to needs and wants for the US market. I place great emphasis on the community that has made many of the previous phones I've owned so great. I want that for the ZF2.

I'll probably start development for this phone once i get it. Never worked with an x86 android device before but it sounds like a fun challenge

Hi,
I've got some sort of situation here concerning building the kernel for ZF2 on my own. I downloaded the kernel source from ASUS website and followed the instructions one by one (download the android source code, use the appropriate toolchain, issue the kernel build command using fhd_defconfig, etc.
The phone boots and works good, BUT:
The phone never gets to deep sleep mode because of hsic_s3_wlock (kernel wakelock from USB HSIC). Could you please ask someone from the technical department to check what is causing this or if any config entry is missing? I am really starting to doubt that this is something I can influence at all

Are there any alternative OSs available?

Hello, I was wondering if someone was working to port Sailfish OS or Firefox OS and such? It would be nice to have alternatives to Android !

Unfortunately not. Development as you can see is pretty low. LG is not the best on being open to dev.

Don't they leave the source for the hardware? What do you mean they aren't open to devs?

It's meant, that LG is a bit like Samsung of keeping required sourcecode. Also I have to confess, LG did a pretty nice job & the OS is better than many other "soups" from manufacturers. Also we have one of the most famous coders here: @codeworkx doing awesome stuff with CM13. But: He also has a life and so, development of AOSP-ROMs may take a bit time. But they will come, since the G4 is one of the most popular phones out & Samsung really did a bad job with their latest phones .

Boot loader is locked for about 90% of the so its not very development friendly. This is what hes saying.

Porting pixel

Now that we have kernel sources can we port the pixels camera or do we still need a few more things? Also when can we expect to see some roms that use the kernel sources for this device?

Hi guys , I have talked with a owner of Nexus 6P | Nexus 5x | Pixel | LG V20 and Developer of roms for this phones , and he makes the WETA Rom for this devices.
The first talk I had with him I asked him if we could get him a Mi5s if he could do a Nexus/Pixel experience for our Mi5s and seeing that he has a Pixel and some Nexus I think he would be perfect to Build a nice Pixel Rom for our devices.
But to do this we would have to make a Funding so we could get him a Mi5s.
What do you think about this?

It would be cool. And it can be arranged.
But look, the developer buys the phone, makes the firmware on it, what differences will it have from AOSP? A camera from a pixel?
I think the main thing that people are interested in is the creation of a mod that replaces the standard image processing libraries with similar ones from a Google pixel.
WETA rom will also be interesting, is it the focus on the audio capabilities of the phone?

I think we could ask him if he could port the Pixel Camera and it's capabilities to the Rom seeing that the Pixel has the same Sensor.
But yeah basically the WETA Rom as I understood it is focused on the Audio Capabilities and in Stability.
But the only thing is that we would have to join forces so we could all just donate 1€ or something like that and get him a Mi5s.

I don't personally know him , I just reached out to him when I bought my Mi5s so I could get an ideia if any Dev with a Pixel would be interested in developing Roms to the Xiaomi Mi5s
And he answered me with a positive note back at that time , now I have reached out to him again to see if he is still interested in making a Rom to our Mi5s in case we could get him one and as soon as he answers me I will ask him about the camera. Because as all of us , I too want a Pixel perfect Rom for our Xiaomi Mi5s , it would be the Cherry on top of the cake.

I would also make a bit of donations for his phone

i used weta on my previous gs6 and i must say, stable and good rom. Dev was quick in answering in that days..

I have talked with another Dev's from the Pixel Section and 3 Devs have answered me with a positive atitude saying that they wouldn't mind to try to Make a Pixel rom for our Mi5s.
Are you guys still interested in trying to get Money to buy them a Mi5s and seeing with they can do it?

I guess first we should choose which one of the Dev's we want to try it seeing that we have more than one.
Second I think would be to make a new Thread to see how many people can donate and see if we could get the money to buy the device.

Ok, so not quite true. I've been messing with a11 gsi roms. Actually having some success, but have been finding info on telegram, which I hate. Not much v30 specific info on xda that I can find. Anybody else out there been trying gsi based roms?

Everybody who makes their way to telegram inevitably returns here to ask questions after they broke their phone and get piss poor support there. We suggest you make due with one of the many ROMs developed at XDA.

Wow, what an absolutely phenomenal idea
Just kindly point me towards all of the a11 roms being developed here, or the threads about v30 owners trying to install gsi roms on their phones.
Believe me, if so many of the devs didn't hang out on telegram I wouldn't be there.

You won't really get Android 11. Stick with 10 or deal with the tg crowd. Those are your options on a >3 year old phone with few supporters on XDA and fewer developers.

There are no other custom ROMs yet, but there are several factors that make me believe that there will soon be good support for this device.
First off, xiaomi most of the time doesn't wait long these days before revealing their kernel source.
Furthermore this device is a typical mid-ranger that in a way scratches the upper range, so it is predestined to make people curious about its potential and is very affordable at the same time.
We don't have cristal balls for these questions, but for me the odds are good - otherwise I wouldn't have bought this phone myself ; )

I think this device has better chance to get custom ROMs than 5G version, because it has same chipset like Redmi Note 10 Pro or Poco X3 NFC. These devices already have custom ROMs, so it is possible to make custom ROM with the help of their device trees. I will maybe buy this phone and attempt to do it once I have more free time, however I would be glad if more experienced developer did it

For Mi 11 Lite nothing yet...and I don't think it's much harder to mod.
It is a device born unlucky in my opinion, they have produced few and sells little, and will have little or zero community.
I'll wait another month, and if nothing comes out I'll sell it.
It's a pity, because i really love form factor and weight, and is fast and reliable. But for me modding is essential, i dont like miui.

I flashed CrDroid and it is super stable and feature-rich - total recommendation!
