I have MX PX5, originally with Android 6 and some 2.x MTCD.
Gradually went through various ROMs and I now have Hal9k Mod v4 and MTCE MX v3.30 for about 2 years.
If I look for Firmware:
- v2.83 is what shops recommend (from the factory)
- v3.41 is what goes on the forums
I wonder does it really matters? Why are people always looking for MCU updates?

I believe the MCU is misunderstood.
Perhaps, for upgrading to a new ROM, or where you're missing a feature that others have - like device sleep - then updating the MCU makes sense.
Updating it for a higher number is pointless and likely to - as many others have proven - introduce new or previous bugs.
The factories that manufacture these units have almost no desire to fix bugs. The QA and coding is shyte.

Is there a hardware reason why there aren't more recent android builds for them?
What newer features make it worth the effort to develop on newer versions? Battery life? - really? "Material design?" - meh. Multiple SIM card support? - huh? Fingerprint reader support? Android pay?
Maybe just a bigger number is better?

I agree with you.
Lollipop 5.0 is quite buggy, only 5.1.1 works decently, but it will give no practical benefits to a 1GB device.
And about Marshmallow 6.0, it has not yet been released even for many 2015 smartphone models, and its true advantages on a battery-less device would be questionable... and to enjoy the material design also the native launcher and apps will have to be redesigned.
Rockchip hasn't and probably wont release the SDK for Lollipop or above for RK3188 and RK3066 devices.
Hi, New to XDA! I bought an Android Head Unit for my car and installed it, everything is running ok but was wanting to upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2. It is branded as a Sonic Audio vPad, but its a China unit I'm sure
I've been reading about upgrading the MCU and the different MCU's out there... But when I got to my about section I get this:
MCU version
V2.11.1001.1000.0024
Any idea what that means as I cannot see the prefix to know which MCU firmware I can upgrade with.
Is it possible to upgrade to 4.4 without upgrading the MCU?
Thanks in advance!
Do the letters MTCB appear in the about device section. If they don't then this is not the section for your unit and none of the Roms or MCUs here will work.

I can not see MTCB anywhere, the unit does have an MCU just not with MTCB in front. I have seen other units exactly the same as mine (Same processor, chip, and RAM) on Youtube with MCB-JY-V2.11 ROM and with a JY RK3066 KitKit 4.4.4 ROM installed. Mine is a Dual core A9 1.6Ghz processor with 8GB Ram, with Jellybean 4.2.2. Just want to upgrade to Kitkat.. any help?
If it doesn't say MTCB then you won't get help on the mtcb forums. Try the general android auto head unit section

Hi,
I have a RK3066 with the update Rom from Malaysk 4.4.4.
It works fine but the speed off the system can better. I also expect an improvement in the resolution.
I'am planning to buy a new radio with android 5.1 and RK3188.
What are the improvements?
Hello everyone,
about a year ago I installed an RK3188 car radio in my Alfa Romeo 159.
From day one the performance of the radio was very bad. Especially when I just started the car.
Recently I learned there are upgrades available. Would this work on my device?
Current Radio:
From aliexpress:
Quad Core Android 5.1.1 Car DVD GPS for Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon Spider Brera with Mirror-link BT Wifi Radio
RS-6007C1
MTCD_KGL_V1.92a_5
Oct 13 2016 10:49:02
Android: 5.1.1
Upgrade:
From aliexpress:
WITSON Octa-Core +4GB RAM +32GB Flash PX5 Coreboard For Android DVD (Android 5.1 A5XXX upgrade to Android 6.0 B5XXX directly
Thanks!
Hello geertjan88,
I have upgraded last week my alfa 159 android HU (MTCDE KGL MCU firmware 2.47 and Android 5.1.1) to Witson PX5 4Gb + 32Gb Android 6.0.1.
The result is nice! New board much faster.
Attention for radio. On antenna input no phantom supply for antenna amplifier (in PX3 5.1.1. neither).
Have good project!
Hello Geertjan,
Did you already upgrade your alfa 159 HU? If so, did you experience any issues? Or was it more or less plug and play. I have the same unit (1gb android 5.1.1) which is really slow. A new unit with android 8.0 one will cost approx. 300€

Yes I have.
The screws from the px-5 board do not align correctly with the unit. So it was some fiddling to get it fit correctly. There is some tension on the px-5 board but it is working as it should.
Improvements:
Bootup time is shortened drastically
Device is immediately ready to use
Device feels really snappy and fast
Multiple apps running at the same time, no issue at all
Steering wheel buttons now work!! (didn't work before)
Problems:
WiFi does not always auto connect, have to go into settings and connect from there.
All and all, best 100 dollar i've spend in years.
Thanks (bedankt ) !
Hi. I am looking for an Android radio, and after looking at several models and reading the forum, I have reached these 3 as the main candidates. Basically I'm going to use it with GPS tomtom and Google maps, music, hands-free on my mobile, and 2-3 camping apps. It will be installed in a motor home.
I don't know which model to choose. From the dasaita I have read that it has a noise problem and something else, although it is not if it happens to all the units or it is a specific problem. From the xtrons I have also read something on the forum and it seems to be working fine, and from the erisin I have not found any information about it.
Cost is the same, around € 200, and dasaita is my favorite because it has a better cpu and more ram than the xtrons, and because of the erisin there are no references. But in the end what matters to me is that it works well and has no problem. Which of the 3 would you buy? Is there any other model or brand over € 200 recommended?
Dasaita solved the noise....the noise issue was related to preamp brand cars. If your car does not have amplifier sure younwill not have the noise (i have a dasaita px6 on mazda cx5 - no bose) and it works very well.
Similar hardware between brands...same architecture....but different support. In my opinion support (both official and unofficial [xda forums] ) is better on dasaita units.

Thanks for the reply. My vehicle does not have an amplifier, so I suppose it would be fine. Apart from this problem, is there something else going wrong?
How did they solve the noise problem ? Is it still there for cars that have JBL or Bose audio systems ?
Hi. I have seen that dasaita have 2 same models, with the same cpu (px6) and the same characteristics, but with different buttons. The only difference I have seen is the model name. One is Ha2100-Max6 and the other is HA2153-max6. Anyone knows What's the difference between one and other? The HA2100 model is around 50€ cheaper.
HA2100
HA2153
I have receive a message from dasaita.
dear,
thanks for your message .
the difference is the front panel , HA2153 -MAX6 have button , and HA2100-MAX6 is full touch screen
