No idea what MCU I have in my head unit - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Hi, New to XDA! I bought an Android Head Unit for my car and installed it, everything is running ok but was wanting to upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2. It is branded as a Sonic Audio vPad, but its a China unit I'm sure
I've been reading about upgrading the MCU and the different MCU's out there... But when I got to my about section I get this:
MCU version
V2.11.1001.1000.0024
Any idea what that means as I cannot see the prefix to know which MCU firmware I can upgrade with.
Is it possible to upgrade to 4.4 without upgrading the MCU?
Thanks in advance!

Do the letters MTCB appear in the about device section. If they don't then this is not the section for your unit and none of the Roms or MCUs here will work.

I can not see MTCB anywhere, the unit does have an MCU just not with MTCB in front. I have seen other units exactly the same as mine (Same processor, chip, and RAM) on Youtube with MCB-JY-V2.11 ROM and with a JY RK3066 KitKit 4.4.4 ROM installed. Mine is a Dual core A9 1.6Ghz processor with 8GB Ram, with Jellybean 4.2.2. Just want to upgrade to Kitkat.. any help?

If it doesn't say MTCB then you won't get help on the mtcb forums. Try the general android auto head unit section

Is there a upgrade board for mtcb / mtcc Radios?

Anyone knowing if there is a upgrade board for MTCC / MTCB Units?
For the MTCD Units there is the 4g / 32 Gb PX 5 Upgrade board.
So i would like to know if anyone knows if there is such an upgrade board for other Radios? ( My friend is running MTCC-KLD6 )
Thank you
Doubt it.
No.

replace PX5 board with PX6 on MTCD/MTCE?

Is it possible to replace the PX5 core board in our MTCD/MTCE units with a PX6 4GB/32GB core board like it was for the PX4->PX5?
Any links to the sellers of the boards?
Yes, that's possible. I did this only a few days ago.
In the German Amazon of the company "M.I.C." there is the PX6 Board for 165 Euro
Working nicely.
Just swapped the board.

Ave link?
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07RMKD2KZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Plug and play? Or is there any soldering required? 165 isn't cheap .... I paid 225 for my complete px5 unit.
I think what if i buy this unit and grab px6 coreboard from this and replace my px3 on my device? 140$ is much cheaper than on amazon link

non-MTC* MCU units like that don't use the same style SOM, so you can't remove it and swap into a MTC* unit.

Could be interesting.
So if I use this coreboard, it will still be an mtc unit, but then with px6?
I still can use all tweaks like hal9k, soundmod etc?
Than I will order this one too.
Thanks in advance

Hello,
I also want to upgrade to a px6 from a px6. Anyone has a good tip, where to buy a core board? The amazon-link in this topic is very expensive.
Google didn't help me yet
Hope someone has a good tip!

PX5 android 8 to 9 upgrade

Hi, a few months ago there was a thread which led to the discovery of a working android 9 upgrade from android 8 for px5's, at the time i wasnt using the head unit so thought id leave it for a bit.
Now Im all good to give it a go now and i cant find the thread anywhere
Anyone know of the way to do it? Or have a link to the thread i cant find? I've searched and looked through loads of pages but i cant find one that will do it.
I have a an xtrons px5, 4gb ram 32gb i think it is. Any help would be amazing.

Any source for PX6 core boards (upgrade PX5 to PX6)?

I'd like to upgrade a PX5 to a PX6. I've read that you can do that by simply replacing the core board. However, I haven't found a source for a PX6 core board that will ship to America (there's a seller on Amazon in Europe).
Aside from ripping out a core board from an existing PX6 unit...there has to be a supplier somewhere.
Any leads?
Thanks.

Are you moving from 4gb/32gb px5 to px6?
I dont think you will have too much benefit

So the PX6 doesn't feel that much better than a PX5 4gb/64gb? That's sad to hear. I feel like the PX5 is just too sluggish, even after cutting out as much bloat as possible plus switching to a lightweight pixel launcher.
I was hoping the PX6 would give better response plus it has the HDMI out connector.
Try Dasaita if they sell the px6 board

Which ROM are you using?
Have you tried Hal9k rom?

I went to A10 and I find it so much better than Android 9.
My XTRONS MTCE_LM PX5 runs fast and snappy.
Buona fortuna
Thank you for the suggestions, I'll try em out!

I use HCT4. I like it. There are 5 or 6 PX5 A10. I have not seen an HXD ROM but I think all stock A10 a pretty much the same with different launcher.
Choose the one that has your prefered launcher.
Look at the first page of a jamal2367 A10 thread for a download link.

MCU update - does it matter?

I have MX PX5, originally with Android 6 and some 2.x MTCD.
Gradually went through various ROMs and I now have Hal9k Mod v4 and MTCE MX v3.30 for about 2 years.
If I look for Firmware:
- v2.83 is what shops recommend (from the factory)
- v3.41 is what goes on the forums
I wonder does it really matters? Why are people always looking for MCU updates?

I believe the MCU is misunderstood.
Perhaps, for upgrading to a new ROM, or where you're missing a feature that others have - like device sleep - then updating the MCU makes sense.
Updating it for a higher number is pointless and likely to - as many others have proven - introduce new or previous bugs.
The factories that manufacture these units have almost no desire to fix bugs. The QA and coding is shyte.
