Best way of updating a rooted Tab S from Lollipop to Marshmellow - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted Tab S on lollipop and I would like to update it to marshmellow but I'm not sure what the best method is for me. I would like to keep TWRP and not trip knox if possible. I was thinking of downloading the firmware onto sd card and installing it through TWRP. Would that be the best method or would that also wipe my recovery?
Thanks,

[Q] Rooted at Jellybean, no KitKat update from AT&T. How to get KitKat

My galaxy siii was rooted before kitkat was out, and I have been using it until now and have not yet update to KitKat yet because AT&T is not part of it any more.
How do I get KitKat on my phone? Do I have to unroot the phone and put it back into AT&T mode to download or what should I do?
this might help.

You will need to unroot your phone and have the stock recovery.
Thank you for both replies gentleman

I might add to this...if you removed any stock carrier or vendor apps from 4.3 while being rooted...you'll have to restore them via a Titamium Backup or some other way or the OTA update will not install properly. (I realized that the OTA update from 4.3 to 4.4.2 will patch these apps to update them to 4.4.2 compatibility)
If you can't do that or if its unreasonable to do that based on the way the phone was modified while rooted...I suggest flashing the stock 4.3 rom via Odin and then take the OTA.
Id recommend flashing the 4.3 firmware via Odin to begin with. Its starting to seem like a lot of people who even just have to unroot are having problems with the ota. I think Odin flashing stock 4.3 will give the best chance of a successful update.

I am having this issue. I rooted on 4.3 and removed Google books and newsstand. I then uprooted and did a factory reset , so everything in download mode says "official" but the apps were still missing so I downloaded them from the play store. My question is will this let me get the OTA now or do I have to push the apps to the /system directory somehow? Also if I flash the 4.3 ODIN tar file, will it trip my warranty bit? It's at 0 right now and want to keep it that way until my warranty is up.
The firmware shouldn't trip the bit, but I can't promise that. Im sure its confirmed one way or the other in its thread though.
As for those apps, they'd have to be system apps, so just installing normally won't help. More importantly though, they would also need to be the same version that was originally built into the firmware. The apps you mentioned have seen many updates and using the current versions will not work.
I got the phone 2 weeks ago and it came with 4.3 installed on it. Would I be able to use the current version and just push them to /system/app with titanium backup? I am trying to get the OTA without tripping any warranty or security measures.

Will I be able to update to Lollipop if I root on KitKat?

Haven't messed with a Android Device in since Jelly Bean and I remember you couldn't update to KitKat if you were rooted with out doing some complicated stuff on other devices, wondering if this would be the case with my Tab S 10.5, since I like to root and disable bloatware and what not.
Also does anyone know any GPE based roms or GPE apps I can flash?
If you are rooted you won't get OTA ,that's the case for tablets and phones .
Is your Tab S 10.5 still running Jelly Bean? I would be happy with that !!!
Remember when you go to Kitkat ,no reverse possible !!! Also remember KitKat don't allow to write to SD card, thats why i wish i was on Jelly Bean.

You can still update to lollipop via downloading the stock firmware from sammobile and flashing it via ODIN but you have to reroot And I'm not sure yet if chainfire has released a root.
Kitkat there is a hack to enable sd card access

If I can correct, Twrp recovery should give you root on lollipop. You just need to flash the update supersu zip in twrp I think.

[Q] To root...Lollipoop or KitKoot?

I'd like to root...and i'll likely need recovery as well...so, to Lollipoop or not to lollipoop? Should i take the OTA update? Or should i root and TWRP to backup KK? Someone mentioned in one of their roms that you needed the lollipop bootloader to install their rom. I'm used to the eee pad transformer and Nexus 7 where you could be bootloader-unconcious. Not used to this BL sort of thing.
For now i'll probably stick to the stock rom.
For bonus kudos: Why don't i see OTA .zips for install in TWRP? Whenever there was an OTA for my other devices, shortly after the update was released, .zip files were made available and again, no need to worry about the BL. What makes this device different? Is running a KK rom after updating the BL to Lollipop possible?
You can run a kitkat Rom with a lollipop bootloader, they are backwards compatible, but not the other way around.
You keep asking about rooting and recovery, already I gave you a link for that. Just read that thread.
My advice is to install it, then immediately do a full backup of your kitkat system before upgrading to lolliop.
To upgrade to lollipop read the lollipop thread and DONT skim read it. There is important info that you WILL need.
If you don't like it simply restore your TWRP backup.
Also note that anything custom that you flash to your device will trip the Knox bit and void your warranty.

AT&T GPad F 8.0 (V495) Marshmallow 6 OTA Upgrade Fail

Hi my friends, I am looking for a STOCK RECOVERY for my LG G Pad F 8.0 AT&T (V495). I was trying to do an OTA upgrade to 6 but after the Download and restart the installation is giving me an error because i am ROOTED. I need to flash stock recovery to be able to install new OTA upgrade to Marshmallow 6. Is someone have a 5.0.2 STOCK Recovery or maybe another idea on how can I do and upgrade to Marshmallow 6 I will appreciate any help. Thanks
Is there a KDZ or TOT available for your variant?
I am in the same boat. I can not find the stock rom anywhere. I would like to upgrade to to 6.0. I am rooted with king root. If the stock rom is not found is there a way to unroot and delete all root files so the update does not detect the root so we can update?

In order to take OTAs (starting with Lollipop) you have to never have been rooted (since the most recent time you've flashed a KDZ or TOT).
Unrooting isn't enough.

Can I root the note 10.1 2014 on 5.1.1 LMY47X.P600UESDPL1

HI, I got my son a wifi P600 note 2014 for his birthday a while ago, and it came with kitkat on it, so i was able to update it, install twrp, and root it. Now i bought another one for my girlfriends son, but his came with 5.1.1 LMY47X.P600UESDPL1 already on it. I cant find any information on whether or not i can install twrp, and then do the cfauto-root just like i did on the other one. Has anyone out there done this yet, or is it pretty safe to try it and i can fix a brick with Odin? I've been a Motorola and HTC guy, don't have the whole Samsung thing down yet.
Thanks, Mark
If CF has LP on autoroot website its good.
That exact version number of 5.1.1 is not on the autoroot website. But I believe the update on the tablet was just some security updates, so I thought mAybe auto root would still work. But if it don't work will it just fail or will it brick it. Can I use Odin and a stock fw file to at least get back to stock from a brick?
Just reread what you said, and now I'm thinking your saying that as long as Cf-autoroot page has a 5.1.1 lp version for the p600 it will work on any 5.1.1 update of the p600?
Why not just do it the old fashioned way? Flash twrp using odin and then directly boot into twrp and flash the latest supersu binary from the chainfire's website. I just did this with PL1 firmware and everything is running fine. Installed busybox, fdroid and adaway eveything working just fine with root permissions
Just so everyone knows it did work rooting with cf-auto-root , then I was also able to flash twrp with Odin. Everything is working great.
Hey I have the same tablet and version but new to this topic and don't know how to root my tablet. I'm searching for a guide for my device. Do you have some tips? Or maybe will explain how you did it?
