[Q] Changing the LCD DPI Density

Hi everyone!
So, let's suppose that we have a rooted LG G3 (done with the current rooting methods), running stock ROM. Because I always like to cramp as many widgets on the home screen as possible, I want to change the DPI density of the screen (usually 3-rd party launchers allow you to only rescale the shortcuts, but not the widgets). We coud use the Texdroider app from the Play store, but it changes the DPI globally, so I'm worried it might harm the phone... Another way would be to install Xposed Framework - but can it be installed already safely at this point?
Of course ruining the stock Launcher by changing the DPI is not a problem, as I always use some 3-rd party Launchers that can handle layouts more flexibly
I'm also interested in changing LCD density on G3.
Has anyone done it?

Tnx, but I was thinking on global change. On my old GS2 it was matter of simply editing build.prop file.
My setting was 182 which was great. But I remember that if you over do it, phone will not boot and without nandroid backup it is quite risky.

Use Textroid - You can use Build.Prop it'll work fine, just go no lower than around 400 or you will run into issues (for the record stock is 650)

Actually 640 is default.
Anyway, 530 is the lowest value. Any below that and apps will start to FC.
Pitty, because on 450 screen is amazing!

It is not much as I expected, but still it is better then stock density.
It's a keeper.
changed it to 580 and its bootlooping now. any help?
well...this is kinda roundabout so it works and I'm not complaining...I disabled or removed all of my AT&T apps and the useless LG ones...so I set my dpi to 450 and changed the per app dpi to 530 for the lg apps...problem solves...especially since I barely use the lg apps.

I did the same thing and I'm stuck on this wretched infinite boot loop. Did you get any help on this if so can you please post the fix to your woes?
EDIT: So I tried to use the built-in factory reset ... nothing doing. STILL boot looping. I'm wondering if I should start panicking now? haha

LG apps can't go below 530 DPI. You'll need to individually them to 530 or higher to keep them from crashing.

Samsung galaxy note 10 plus Refresh rate 90 120hz

Hi guys,
Simply question, IT is possible to change refresh rate or software overclock display to more Hz?
Or any APPS on this?
Unlock 90hz or 120hz anything else?
Thanks for answer

No, if it was the relevant option(s) would be visible and available to us on the phone.
Currently people are using activity launchers to run a menu option for the S20 that is hidden on the Note 10+. While it can be toggled it appears to not work at all on the Note 10+ due to hardware limitations.

Hi,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10/how-to/toys-oneui-2-1-update-t4077297
Tried the activity launcher and I assure 100% note 10+ locked to 60hz...
I installed the app and applied the setting as well. Not so much as a placebo effect. Checked at testufo and can confirm only 60hz. Is there anything useful anyone has discovered in this app?
The Problem will be the drivers for the display
To achieve more than 60hz you would have to create a custom resolution and refresh rate
Effectively overclocking the display
Anyone ever checked what resolution and refresh rate the Note 10+ can actually use, by running the shell command “dumpsys display,” in adb?
According to this article the setting option was a mistake.
https://piunikaweb.com/2020/04/07/s...-120hz-refresh-rate-but-dont-get-too-excited/
by the fact the display was launched as purely 60hz it is probably a hardware limitation.
LCD/LED/other panels are manufactured to work at a maximum speed, it will be hardware controlled through the display chips, so unless you can swap out the controller chip and the panel is actually capable of altering the individual points at that speed you are likely never getting past 60hz. so unless the hardware was designed for 120hz and Samsung chose to just massively underclock the screen (but why would they do that when it would have been a good brag?) there is likely no way past 60hz as since the change from CRT the only way to overclock a screen is if the screen is shipped underclocked by the manufacturer.
so the reason it doesn't show up in the standard settings without extra steps should tell you this option being there is a mistake of them not removing the setting deep enough in the software.

Changing DPI for performance?

Does changing the dpi for performance work for RN8. Tried using Activity Launcher to change the DPI through Vision Settings, made it to the largest with about 320 DPI but some apps are still using the default dpi.

I doubt it will increase performance. However using 'wm size' command in terminal seems to make performance better.

Yes you will have to be rooted. Then in the terminal you have to type 'su'. Then
"wm size 720x1560" (without quotes)
And it will change your phone's ppi (not dpi), meaning your phone will change to HD resolution.

I can't say for sure, but I think it does. I don't play games but some have said that it increases gaming performance by much. If it has a positive effect on performance then it will have a positive effect on battery too.

Check this out:
https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongodev/comments/6554k1/tutorial_set_your_android_phone_to_a_lower/
It has a drastic impact on performance, maybe because there will be fewer pixels to push. So I think it will even have a lesser strain on battery. I myself don't reduce up to 720p. I use 900x1950 right now.
Here is a list of all possible resolutions (6:13 ratio):
1080x2340 (original)
960x2080
900x1950
840x1820
816x1768
780x1690
720x1560
If you don't like that it blackens part of the corners, you can reduce the corner radius if you're using custom roms like Resurrection Remix.

So what would be the best DPI for 720x1560 resolution, is it 300 ?

This isn't a revelation bro. People already know this. LTPO is still a very new technology and hasn't been perfected yet.

Ah yes the oldest trick in the book
Screen refresh rate is controlled by several variables, 3 which I found are:
Code:
# getprop ro.surface_flinger.use_content_detection_for_refresh_rate
<true by default; you will need Magisk's resetprop to override it>
# settings get system min_refresh_rate
<0 by default; you can set e.g. to '60'>
# settings get system peak_refresh_rate
<60 or 120 depending on toggle 'Smooth display' in Settings>
When you use 'Force peak refresh rate' in developer options then:
Code:
# settings list system | grep refresh
min_refresh_rate=120.00001
Weird number by the way. Anyway that forces the driver into 120Hz continuously.

There's a catch though,
It's for the people that didn't know, if "we all" new then I wouldn't have posted it
On my Pixel 6 Pro it always displays '60' if you turn on 'Show refresh rate', regardless if any of the other use/force smooth display/refresh rate options is set to true...
Is this the same for you?

Question Boot Animation glitch while on QHD, custom roms

I seem to be having an issue when using the QHD+ (doesn't occur while on FHD) option across all roms, rooted and stock. The boot animation glitches right before it's finished and was wondering if anyone had the same experience? I've done a little bit of research on desc.txt, but haven't found anything to remedy it. I've tried changing the fps and resolution within desc.txt. Also tried various custom boot animations to no avail.
I know it's a small thing, but wondering if anyone had a solution to this (besides switching to FHD)?

Sorry currently on A13, WatchDogs custom ROM, LE2125 unlocked
First line of desc.tx should look like this for the bootanimations.zip.......
g w h 0 0 30
W=width in pixels
H=height in pixels
I believe the 0 0 is the x,y coordinates for animation reference position
g I believe is for global
30 is the frames per second
The first line changed with A12+
Should be the same for A13 maybe

Thanks for that, man. Do you know if the FPS matters? Or is it just a visual thing. Also, is it the width and height of the image, or the screen resolution? Will test some things when I get home

You want the w and h to correlate to the screen size for optimal clarity. Fps determines how fast or slow it plays...and it determines how long it will play

So, I spent the last two hours messing with it and had no luck fixing the glitch. I just don't know what it could be. I've reached out to a few of the rom groups and no response. I also haven't seen anyone else report this problem. I don't think it's a hardware issue, and it seems to happen on every rom I've tried. Any ideas?
Does it happen with any bootanimations?

Yes. Used the stock one on Nameless, WatchDogs, Lineage. All seem to have that issue, unfortunately. I'm thinking it's the implementation of QHD? Or some DPI issue?

That's my thought. I guess there would have to be some back end changes made, and not something that could be changed in the boot animation sequence?
