I just recently got the Nexus 5, which will now be my daily driver, but I still want to use my S III to track my runs (w/ runkeeper). I was wondering if I'd still be able to use the S III's gps to track my runs without data, mostly since the Nexus 5 can't fit my armband and I don't want to buy another....
Thanks
Edit: I forgot to mention, I've tried but it doesn't work despite reading online people have done this, wondering if there is a way.

Nope, the only way it would work that I've seen is with a SIM card. Sorry :crying:

Hi,
well, its getting towards the the (semi) retirement of my (the one and only) HD2.
5 years was a pretty good investment and it still all works great.
but...
I am thinking that the M8 is really the only contender with the possibilities (wishful thinking) of multi boot and maybe even including windows phone 8.
the ideal phone will be the dual sim version for me but i can see all the good stuff going on for the M8 but will everything apply if i get the dual sim version?
what i mean is, are they exactly the same apart from the extra sim?
i dont want to get the dual sim then find out that i cannot take advantage of any of the development going on for the M8.
thanks.

hmm, ok, thanks for the heads up JellyTooth. that seemed to be the impressions i was getting from the posts here.
thats a shame that it is different as it really seems to be the ideal phone.
i suppose i could always just buy it anyway and then use it standard without rooting, flashing, customizing, and, and, and...
naw, forget that.
i am still undecided and less than 4 weeks to go before my birthday...

I bought it in Saudi one month ago, it works excellent. If you don't mind too much for the dev then get it. With root you can customize it with Xsense,Sense 6 and so on. Finally I find a dual sim phone for my needs.
Hi bro, I just have a question if you dont mind, can I root the dual sim M8 without loosing OTA official update, just rooting no recover no missing up the device
Well lets see here , regular sim doesnt get updates regularly like normal m8 ( from several sources including htc themselves ) , and no rom devolpment as the second post said
other than that the device is excelent and the best i've ever seen in handling 2 sims and the difference in the price isnt hight

to root u must have superuser ,and to have superuser u must have custom recovery , so noo , ota needs stock recovery but u can always root and revert back to stock in 5 mins , jus tmake sure u have the correct recovery img

yes, thats a good point. have you rooted yours?
ok, it looks like there is a twrp for M8 dual sim which means it can be rooted and i think that will be enough to keep me happy for now at least.
also i assume it is on the list of phones to get htc official android L so now i am talking myself back into this...
another question, can you disable either sim when its not required without taking it out?
Yes you can disable one sim from the setting without phisically removing it…

UPDATE: I decided to get the m8 dual sim today
I know if I bought the single sim version I will regret it later.
as all have said before, its sweeeet
fyi, I bought it in Carrefour in Abu Dhabi. they had a discount today as this weekend is Eid Al Adha holiday.
cost was 2249AED (about 610USD, 380GBP) and included a matching grey dot view case and 2 htc branded screen protectors (actually cost a bit less as i got points on the store card and air miles)
its the 16GB version but as i have a 64GB card to add in thats more than enough (for now...)
which i thought was a pretty good deal
(i know its only the first day but already i am missing root for titanium backup )
Hey all,
I'm new to the Zenfone 2, coming from the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus so I'm wondering if you can give me your best recommendations as far as rooting and Zen based ROMS. I have the ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition being delivered today. I don't want to mess with anything CM related at the moment until I have had a chance to play with it and until it's bug free, 100%. Thoughts & suggestions???

Welcome to Zen Family!
Root : http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/asus-zenfone-2-flashing-recovery-mode-t3096596
(3.1 Rooting Zenfone 2, Method 3 (1 CLICK ROOT TOOL) - best option in my opinion)
ROM : Prism Barebone V12.5

P.S. Bootloader need to be unlocked and TWRP installed for flashing roms
Cool thanks for the info! I'm looking forward to this device. Bought my gf the 64gb version a couple of months ago and she loves it

If you decide to unlock bootloader, use the unofficial unlocker as it doesn't give ASUS your IMEI and stop OTA's being pushed to you if you decide to stick with stock rom for a while...
Thought I'd mention, once bootloader is unlocked you can't re-lock it...

My advice is if you don't want anything so special then don't root it, you can now uninstall almost every of the bloatware without rooting. And the stock rom is good enough I have no complaints, knowing that I was a root addict with my last phone. There only thing that I think makes rooting worthy is the adblock. You can't find any decent non-root adblock.

Well, you can uninstall the 3rd party bloat. You can't uninstall the Asus/Google stuff, but can now disable most of it, which is good enough.
@MikeyLee I thought your name looked familiar! I came from the Mate 2, too. The stock rom has gotten much better over time. Prism Barebones is great, especially if you want a clean slate without going to CM. Also like @ultramag69 said, use the unofficial bootloader unlock method.
For the moment I have 2 months with this cellphone, the 4gb is excellent but the battery is terrible I wait it will solved with android 6.0

Exactly my sentiments regarding rooting. I've had the phone for 9 months and have no reason to root. I use Adguard and it's a very effective no-root adblocker.
My only recommendation echoe rom go check it out i b his forum at echoerom.com
It is stock based but will give you an awesome experience with amazing speed and decent battery life

It did not come with a card but I did already have one. It's the 128GB internal storage, 4GB RAM 2.3mhz Intel Atom
Z3580 processor. There were actually things missing from it but it's brand new and was factory sealed. It was missing the second battery cover and the headset that was supposed to come with it. Kinda pissed about that.

I don't want to return the entire thing and be without it for that long. Just want them to send me the items that were supposed to be included. At this point I think I will contact ASUS. I should have bought it direct from them

1. Pretty good
2. No but it charges quite fast still.
3. idk.
4. Great
5. I like it. It is not a flagship camera but pretty good for this price range. I've read that the quality of the camera in the custom rom's is worse than in ZUI. Dunno about that. I never used ZUI and I am happy with custom roms and their picture quality.

Just for 11k INR.
What about the issues reported about its touchscreen, VoLTE, etc., because unlike other devices' forums here on xda, I'm seeing so many threads regarding random issues; I'm unsure if this is because of the user or the quality of this phone. Agreed, this phone is fantastic value for money, but these random apparent issues just keep me doubting the Z2. I'd like to use this phone for about 3-4 years before an upgrade.

Okay so I have been following all the threads about the phone.
Volte is working fine on stock with no issues and also on custom. ROMs now.
Touch screen issue I dont have idea. Other things are fine as per info I have. For 11k INR can't expect SD820 but I'm getting it soon.
As of now I'm using redmi note 3 and Dev support for it is awesome. I see Dev support for Z2 is also fine.

Thank you for the quick reply. While the Z2 may be a good choice, I'm tempted to get the G5 Plus or the Redmi Note 4, because they're both phones that are well put-together. If I could, I'd get the OP3T for the same reason. Or a Droid Turbo off eBay. Just a few phones I'm considering. The Z2 Plus doesn't seem like wise choice considering long-term use (3-4 years) and overall reliability (without giving me random issues), at least not to me (yet). Just a gut feeling. Or maybe I'm being too cautious. But I'm sure if did get it, I'd unleash the flashaholic in me and flash a rom right after I receive it
Do post a little review and camera samples (preferably while running a custom rom; I could find only stock rom samples) after you get your hands on it! For 11k it's definetely a steal! :victory:

Wow, lucky you...!!! [emoji39] I saw the offer a few hours later, and until then 64GB-11k offer was gone. But I still ordered 32GB at 10k from Flipkart and using it since last 24hrs. It's a good phone. The size of the phone is really perfect. I had thought that I won't be liking ZUI, as I'm always on stock through Custom ROMs, but surprisingly, it's good. Gonna use it for some time. Will flash custom ROM once I get bored with ZUI. [emoji106]
