[Q] Language settings on imported device

hello all!
I just bought a zenfone 2 from eglobal Central for £250. I done some research on the company. They are Chinese and they export devices abroad to customers. What I'm trying to find out is, will the phone come with Android in Chinese and only Chinese? Or will this be the same as any other brand new android device, where you go through initial setup choosing language and location?
I am just not sure if android devices built for use in China will come with a specific Chinese only version of android, if that was the case, could I flash the device?
Any advice on this from anyone who has bought an imported device would be much appreciated.
I have to say £250 for a 64gb 4gb smartphone is a bargain!!

The phone is Taiwanese so it'll come with their language. But as soon as you power it up it'll give you the option to choose your language. Only one app stays in Taiwanese and ZenUI gives you the option to remove it. And yes 250 is a great deal. Paid more for the 32gb.

USA. Phone needs root and even if it has the 2.33 processor is locked at 1.33, but all an all is pretty fast and ZenUI is pretty good too.

So when you rooted your phone did you get the cpu to run at 2.33ghz?
I guess you are right with this phone being so new there is not a lot of info for this device yet.

I haven't rooted. Reason why I don't know what's going on. Buy yeah phone is new and I'm in no hurry.

You have to gain root and most likely boot loader unlock to be able to flash new ROMs. Currently there isn't root available.

Yeah, tried rooting with the Zenfone C method but no luck. We will have to wait a bit more. Just trying a couple of things. Soon things will get better. [emoji1]

Go to the setup wizard and run that, it's in app drawer. It will allow you to choose the language as if you did a factory reset.

Its simple scaling...your cpu idles at 1.3Ghz simply because its not on a demanding cpu task, as soon as you open a 3d game or an emulator your cpu bumps to 2.3Ghz , yes the phone is "caplable of running at 2.3Ghz" no that dosnt mean it will run at 2.3ghz 100% of the time.

Do you know if fastboot is accessible on the deluxe? Or even the bootloader is unlockable?

+1 to hoping for a root method soon, 256gb model here. Suhweeeet ass device that would be even sweeter w/ root!

Also waiting on rooting of Deluxe.
From Taiwan's forum, it seems
1. FASTBOOT is accessible but a lot of commands are removed or not available. FASTBOOT OEM commands status are not clear.
2. Official bootloader unlocked is not available as of now. No news on when will be available.
3. No unofficial bootloader unlock way is available now as yet. Hopefully someone is working on this.
Any one taken on this challenge?

I asked a relative in Taiwan to go buy one and send it to me. It was the only way I could get one for the ACTUAL RETAIL PRICE w/o any sort of BS markup.

LOL and what was the actual price you ended up paying, bud? Will it work in the US? All bands LTE? Warranty?

Paid retail + $50 AUD. I can't answer the other question as I'm in Australia

For the SD 820 version, 6G/64G version, we in Taiwan can get it without any contract, sim unlocked at NTD17990, roughly equal to USD 573.

I bought the 256/6G version for $860 including shipping.

Anyone can say with sincerity and open mind how is the camera comparing to the LG G5 or Galaxy S7?

I have the snapdragon 821, 6th ram, 256th storage variant. I paid 1213.38 CAD including shipping on eBay and got the device express shipped through FedEx straight from taiwan.

The trouble is that the devs who might find the exploits and things for our device have other more mainstream devices...
Luckily we have the SD CPU's this time that are dev friendly instead of the Intel ones but we really have no-one, exclusively, working on our phone if they don't own one...

Just pre-order ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe Special Edition ZS570KL (821/6gb RAM/256gb HD) from ASUS directly. Currently have the Zenfone 2, rooted CM13 and loving it... Need to unlock bootloader & root asap and can wait for official CM14. Any help / guide.

No way to root or unlock bootloader as of yet,,,

Can China Version Can Be Flashed?

I am planning to purchase the Lava Red version which is only sold in China. Judging from the Chinese specs page, it appears the difference is the OS? So that means the bootloader may be unlocked, I can flash a custom ROM or kernel from XDA, and basically use it as if I had the international version correct?

Of course it can. I'm also buy the red lava version from Shenzen, China. The ROM itself is Hydrogen OS and I flash Oxygen OS. For tutorials, you can check it out at this link : http://downloads.oneplus.net/

The 1st one I see in this link is an auction, not an actual selling price.....

ok im all signed up. atm it's 755usd. if the discount and so on is all applied it'll come down to 400gpb (50gpb cheaper than those ebay ones) or 550usd near your price.
if i got that for 400gpb id be so happy. because the standard ones we can find for about 360gpb. only 40gpb or 55usd more for the red!!

also the finger print scanner on back is liek google pixel, just a scanner, not a power button like LG v20, v30, g6 etc? how do you find that? I had the lg v20 and I thought it was the best phone at the time ever (i came from samsung notes before they screwed up the note series and then put the rear sensors too high for my puny hands lol.....) as in I like the finger scanner and power as one. sometimes annoying to turn off phone screen though, thats why i think i'll like the oneplus 5t because the power button is separate, also i like that mute, vibrate and sound button, great feature without unlocking phone.
but the oneplus 6 is being announced in march? i could wait, but i kinda need a work phone now

You won't have to wait long for the emails to start rolling in, I get two every day like clockwork.
I've seen the OP5T on about 3-4 emails in the past 10 days or so. Ordered mine about a week - ten days ago, it arrived Thursday (1-7-18).
The FPR is just that, not a combination power button. The power button & SIM tray are on the right side, volume & mute on the left.
It shipped with OOS 7.1.1, Google Services on board, Bootloader locked.

also google services onboard means what exactly? and bootlocker locked means it's locked, does that mean we have to get trwp or someone to unlock the bootloader?

This is beginning to go off-topic.....
Take a look around the OP5T forum & Google search for answers to these questions,especially for Bootloader Unlocking / TWRP.
Regarding Google services on board, it means just that:
Phones solely intended for use in China do not have Google services installed. The international models do.
If you want to use anything Google related, buy an international model,unless sideloading/Bootloader unlocking/etc..... are 2nd nature to you.
If all of this is new to you, I highly suggest doing the same searches on YouTube, the how-to videos are a great tool to use.....

No,that isn't what I said or inferred:
I merely suggested getting an International version since it has Google services installed.
Apparently,either version can be bootloader unlocked & have TWRP/Root/ROMs.

oh wow, oneplus guys make it so thorough, other guys don't explain in that kind of detail with pictures. I wish everyone did it like this, I'm just not quite that savvy to always remember how to do these, especially on different devices.

I switch phones a lot,so,I'm probably the worst person to ask,LOL.
Outside of owning the predecessor,the OP5,for a couple weeks ( I switch phones a lot.....& often ) ,I've been away from OnePlus since their Original 1+1,a lot has changed since then............
Most new phones no longer have some of the features many of us grew accustomed to (Removable Battery/SD Card slot/I-R Blaster/Dual Front-facing speakers).
Those things aside,this phone,IMHO,hardly needs much,if anything done to it.
My one recommendation would be to use it as-is,explore the features/settings it ships with before diving in to the ROM scene.
I'm rollin' w/stock OOS Android 8.0 beta ATM, at least for a month or so,before I dive in to the modding scene.

I had an iPhone 3 back in the day. the one thing I miss from IOS is their magnifying glass when you try to correct a typo, you press and hold on a word and it'll zoom in then you drag to where you want the cursor to be. it's so damn faster than android stock gotta constantly click exactly at characters to delete a letter or pinch my screen to bloody zoom in.
Samsung and LG don't do the zoom in stock or android I don't think. it looks like this : and can we do it on oneplus or do you know something we can flash? I don't think it's an app. I think it's in the os or rom?

I'm interested in buying this phone mostly because it seems to have a good camera on paper for my <20k INR budget and the UI is a personal favourite of mine, just below the OxygenOS.
I would love to hear your experience with the camera, if it supports the GCam mod properly, and does the chunky design of the phone really make you reconsider buying it?
I would also love to know if you've tried anything to make the hdr10 work outside the YouTube app.

Yeah, from what I gathered online, all moto phones have a very similar and simple way to root them.
I remember having to write a letter to Xiaomi on why I wanted to root my phone and wait a week just to have the ability to unlock the bootloader of my Redmi note 4 lol. Moto's method is definitely way easier than that.

would system be read/write though? I've been out of the loop for a while, is there any fix for it yet?

if you're purchasing now, then there's no ROMs, TWRP, or anything.. but u can easily unlock bootloader and use ADB coz its Stock Android.. so if you want custom ROMs.. now you can just wait.. (if any ROM developer sees this.. if u own a Moto G40F.. pls make ROMs for this device.. thanks)

Question Mi pad 5 for £250 from mi store..worth it?

Been out for a while but still look very good on paper...worth £250.. thanks

I'd say deffo worth it. Just looked on Mi store but couldn't see it for this price - £329 only. But yeah, if you can get one new for £250 it's for sure worth it. A while ago I paid £200 for a used one on ebay with a scratch on the screen, that was when they were selling for £300+ for a new one, so your £250 is great. Much, much faster and better built than the Alldocube iPlay 40 it replaced - even though this had more ram, the ram as a guess was slower. This Mi Pad is snappy. Let me/us know if you have any more questions

Thankyou..I have built up a few points so yea can get for £250..or I can wait for the next sale phase to see if I can get anything better price wise but I highly doubt it..

Think the current price of £329 is an offer, dunno if it'll get cheaper soon. Sod it, make that purchase, you know you wanna!!

Use the Lenovo p11 plus..can't complain, been ok..should get £150ish for it

Fair do, think that's what I bought my dad for birthday. Yeah, it's not too shabby either. Couple of extra GB ram in the Mi pad though, unless you have the 128GB version - think that's got 6GB too. Hope you like it, not bad after selling the Lenovo, getting the Pad 5 for about £100 - niice!
You gonna flash another rom or leave it stock for a while? Running AwakenOS on mine, I'm told it's the best rom for now, even though it's an initial build iirc

Was going to leave stock..is the latest android version out yet? Not flashed a new rom for a few years now

Had it since a good while now and pretty happy with it. Would buy again no prob.

Why not just download the full recovery zip of 14.0.3 and flash it manually...

Hmm, I'm no expert but I would recommend updating to last MIUI 13 before the upgrade to 14, just to be safe. In theory, though, it shouldn't matter, as you'll be flashing the full rom so it should go through fine
