Hi, I own Note 3 N900T bought from T-Mobile US and I'm using it in Macedonia with Chainfire's RegionLock Away App on Android 4.3. And now I want to update to Lollipop and do a factory reset but I checked my IMEI and it's Blacklisted. My question is can I unlock my phone with unlock code in Macedonia if I do a factory reset or I need to activate with T-Mobile SIM card?
Thanks in advance
Blacklisted IMEI.... ouch.
Yeah, you will need to have it unlocked somehow. I'm not sure if T-Mobile will do this for you, however. Give them a call.
Also, I thought that blacklisted IMEI's were only devices that people hadn't paid off, or something along those lines. You did in fact buy the device directly from T-Mobile? How long have you owned it now? Did you pay it off?
I only ask for the sake of connecting the pieces here to try and give you the appropriate advice.

I bought it from a guy in the US and maybe he is not paying the bills there, I don't know. I will buy the unlock code from ebay but I don't know if I can insert it after factory reset. Do I need to activate the phone after factory reset?

Honestly man, this really sucks. It sounds like he ripped you off.
T-Mobile blacklists IMEI's that are associated with an unpaid balance on a device. They do this to prevent people from getting a discounted phone, then taking it somewhere else.
You will need to call T-Mobile and talk to them about it. Not good. Usually they don't "unlist" them after they have been flagged.

As I heard you cannot use the phone in the US but you can use it in other countries, but I'm not sure. And now I don't know if I should perform a factory reset, if I need to activate the phone in the US (or with T-Mobile SIM card) I will end up with unusable phone.

You're confusing a Carrier lock with a Region lock. There is no region lock on the N900T, just carrier lock. You can purchase an unlock code from some place like cellunlocker.net and follow their instructions to unlock and use it with any carrier's sim.

You should be able to, yes. There is no region lock, only Carrier/SIM lock, so an unlock code should allow it to operate anywhere, and it would be a permanent unlock, so you can factory reset even and not worry about it getting re-locked to tmo usa.
The region lock away app seems to also remove the sim lock, so I don't think you'll need an unlock code...

I would say this is bad advice.
Why would you purchase anything without first giving them a call and finding out what is going on. IMEI stands for... ready....
INTERNATIONAL mobile equipment identity... not carrier specific. If T-Mobile flags a GSM device for "theft", as in, somebody not paying it off, it is essentially the property of T-Mobile's, and I promise you they have gone through the hoops to protect themselves from a product sales perspective.
It would be simple to give them a call. You should do it, and not spend any more of your money until A) You know why it was blacklisted, B) Know whether or not T-Mobile can fix this problem for you (maybe it was a mistake, but I doubt it), C) You call that idiot back that sold you the phone and find out why he sold you a device that was blacklisted (he knew).
That's all I really can say about it. And I hate to say it, but I think you are going to be SOL man. Sorry.

It's a widely known FACT that tmo USA and AT&T, who share blacklists) ONLY blacklist within the USA.
OP it's up to you, but based on others experiences (Google is your friend) and KNOWN FACTS, you should be fine

I would assume that if they had blocked an IMEI, it would be borked indefinitely. If not, good for you OP.
If you have heard of somebody having a blocked IMEI, toastido, and then taking a device to another country and successfully using it, then there is hope for him.

the chainfire region lock away only works on 4.3... so if you update the phone to Lollipop or any other 4.4, I do believe it won't work for you anymore....
if you get the sim unlock from ebay or anyone else, you can use it anywhere except Tmobile USA...
I do not think tmobile cares enough to feel sorry that you got ripped off, but sometimes, only sometimes, I heard they have pardon 1 or 2 people..

If it's blocked in the USA, then they are borked in the USA indefinitely, but fine outside of it. Now I can't speak for the European Union or Asia, but unless they have been blacklisted in the region they're trying to use it, should be good to go once it's unlocked - add long as its outside the us of a.
In Macedonia they can unlock it for you some small shops not Tmobile stores, it's like $10 and try One the carrier, you got nothing to loose, i srekno. IMEI is only blocked in USA.

So I'm in the process of unlocking my sim (permanently) so I can use it on my carrier in here in Canada. My question is when the sim is unlocked can I install a custom rom, will it still work? ie; can I still make calls and texts?
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. But I really need to know.

Hi! Thank you for answering my question.
The device is locked to the T-Mobile carrier. I want to use it with Freedom Mobile here in Canada, the phone should work on this carrier. I made the mistake of buying it through ebay (was cheap) I will use cellunlocker.net to unlock it.

Okay. Please let us know if cellunlocker works, I haven't tried their service due to too expensive.
You might be able to unlock this device and use it on every network.
But you will probably not be able to use it with Freedom mobile in Canada because Freedom uses CDMA technology, whereas T-mobile uses GSM.
Update: Cellunlocker was unable to unlock the device. Will return and buy the H850 instead.

Nope. I never used a T-Mobile sim. I get the phone thru some online seller here in the Philippines. On their first email that says my device was successfully unlocked but when I tried it, It fails I emailed them and they told me to wait again and after few days they finally unlocked my device.

Dude!
I have an H830 locked to t-mobile that I want to use on Freedom mobile in Canada also! How much did you have to pay to do this? All these sites are asking me for $150 and cellunlocker.net simply told me that I should wait up to a month before asking them again because they're having troubles with it.
Same here...I found a local phone shop who promised to unlock for less than $25.. two days later they said the server is down. I think its global I got the same response from different eBay sellers also. I hope T-mobile is not patching their system.

Hi everyone, I'm new to xda forum and i don't know if this is the right section for this topic. I purchased two brand new sprint s9 phones at a very good price on ebay due to them being bad esn from unpaid bills , i always purchased bad esn phones and unlocked them to use outside the usa at about 10-15$ per phone via remote unlock. So i made this foolish mistake of not checking first if they could get unlocked for a cheap price like i used to do on my previous s8 and note 8 both from sprint ... now i got 2 brand new phones locked to sprint and as far as I've researched on the internet the only options to unlock them are some guys on ebay that demand minimum 150$ per unlock .... however i don't know of someone who had any success with their services ... 150$ for a unlock is a lot of money but it's still better than having 2 unusable smartphones... any news or any info regarding this topic is much appreciated... should i wait a few more weeks for a new unlocking method ? Anyone has had succes with the ebay unlocking services ? Please help me guys !

Cheapest i find is imeigurus at 100usd. Even that is exorbitant. Even i have a s9 but i don't want to spend 100.
If anyone has a cheaper option, please post.

Yeah but you still need to have a licence.. just credits are not enough. Wait a few days.. eBay will have the unlocks under 20usd soon (now at 43.. it was $200)
I had my T-Mobile S9 unlocked by swiftunlocks .
So the implication is that these phones were stolen at one point?
Because if they weren't, you can ask sprint to unlock them. Depending on the circumstances, they might charge a fee.

Stolen? Technically yes. Really stolen most likely not. I think these are phones that people signed up for promotions Buy 1 get 1 Free, they get the phone and then sell it. The pearson may even be paying the finance bill for the first phone and just getting the credit for the second, while pocketing the $400 from ebay. So Technically the phone belongs to Sprint until the full bill credits pay it off. But no one got their phone snatched. Maybe a few lost phones make it to ebay.

I used SamKey to unlock my Sprint S9....found a cheap website that gave me 3 credits for $18 and after 3 hours, my baby was unlocked. Waited til ver. 3 baseband update of the G960U1 (which was just two weeks away at the time lol) to be pushed out, and since then, I have VoLTE, a steadier LTE connection period with MetroPCS, and she feels a lot lighter on the OS. With more RAM available. I love this phone, even though there is no root for us Snappies based phones lol.

Yes, an experienced professional 3rd party business can do it. It's extremely expensive though - around $200 US
As of today I'm carrier unlocked just by asking a t force member that I'll be in Europe and her for the next yr or so, I didn't expect her to whitelist so easily especially since I just upgraded to the s22 plus 2 months ago with 3 lines but she gave me no hassle about it I got lucky I guess and I do know how to speak to people and be honest. I went to support and chatted with her that's it 20 mins went by and permanently unlocked T-mobile carrier
