Shouldn't have to "teather" it.
If you set up a wifi hotspot on your phone, your head unit should pick up the Wi-Fi and you will have internet access on the head unit.

Are you talking about your bluetooth connection, or wifi connection? Iphone or android phone?

BT Internet theathering

Enyone suceeded in enabling Internet via Bluetooth? (enable BT theathering on phone, pairing HU with phone and enabling HU to use phone Internet connection - that way no need for USB modem in HU if you have internet on phone and you take your phone with you in car as we do most of the time).
I was trying to enable that with my LG G3 phone but it doesn't work.
(I'm using Malaysk ROM, KGL unit type)
Any hints appreciated.
Hi, I just switched on "hotspot" in my Moto G menu then switched on WiFi on Headunit then they just paired up, hope this helps.

Try this app (there is a trial version to test with):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bluedunx
I haven't tested that app myself as I use a USB 3G dongle.

Not working
I searched around and it looks like bug in Android 4.4.4 preventing BT theathering to work (in fact it works but apps cannot use that connection).
Anyone found workaround?

HELP! Dasaita PX6 Max6 Headunit wont connect with iPhone Hotspot

I’ve purchased a Dasaita PX6 headunit. It’s advertised as Max6. Here are the specs:
Build number:
rk3399-userdebug 9 PQ2A. 190305.002 20190828.185647 test-keys
Kernel version:
4.4.167
#593 Tue Aug 27....
MCU Versipn
MTCE_HA_V3.30_2
I am also running an iPhone XS on iOS 13.2.
I’ve tested the hotspot on my iPhone with other decided and they are able to connect. I’ve also tested other iPhones on the Dasaita to see if it will connect to them. Unfortunately, I’m not able to get any iPhone to connect to the head unit. The head unit is able to connect to other SSID that are not iPhones. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!
Have you seen this?

Yes, I have. I've tried all the tips. Nothing. It's weird because the head unit can pick up other hotspots/wifi SSID, but it does not find my iPhone. Initially, I could see the iPhone hotspot. It says "Connected...Saved" - this repeats 3 times and then it goes away.
Is your hotspot configured for G and N?

Not sure - whatever the standard is for iPhone XS running iOS 13.1.2 - I assume it's AC...

There is no way I can configure this - it happens automatically in the background, configured by Apple.
Even with the new MCU 3.37 update, I still get this problem occassionally. I've been turning the personal hotpot on and off multiple times, before the wifi connects itself!

Dude! You’re luckier than I am! I have that MCU as well, but my hotspot is not found ever! After it’s found the first time, it connects, saves the SSID, and then never displays or connects ever again.
I think this is both an iPhone AND head unit issue. It’s weird because not only can I not see the iPhone hotspot on head unit while sitting in the car, but I can’t see it on other devices either. However, as soon as I walk about 5 feet away, I can see the ssid.
So weird.
Hmm, when you turn on personal hotspot for your iPhone, you got to make sure to keep the screen on, at the page where to turn on your hotspot to wait for the headunit to connect. Then keep trying multiple times, or change your hotspot password!

Could be the location of the WiFi antenna.
I had the same issue on my Samsung Note 10+, I had to turn off "Allow 5ghz" in my wireless sharing options advanced settings. Then my MAX6
connected.
I was having a similar issue with my iphone hotspot being found, but not connecting, just saying "saved." The was being caused by the bluetooth connection between the head unit (car kit) and the iphone. You need to go into the iphone's bluetooth connection settings for the head unit (car kit) by tapping the "i" icon and then turn off carplay in the settings there. This should allow the iphone hot spot to be found and connected to by the head unit. It worked for me.
Same for me... Sometimes, turning off and on the iPhone then connects. in some cases it connects immediately ... boh

I can't get wireless android auto working on my PX6 MAX 10.
I have the Bluetooth connected to my phone and my phone connected to the head unit's hotspot but nothing happens.
Works over wired though...

Dasaita wifi & bluetooth connection issues

I have PX6-HA5393-MAX10-CP updated with the VIVID10. Loving everything about that, however I purchased a Cobra SC201 dashcam with 5.0 Bluetooth and dual band 2.4ghz & 5 ghz wifi. My head unit cannot recognize either of the dashcam's Bluetooth or wifi networks to connect. The dash cam is visible and accessible with other devices such as phone and laptop. Only the head unit can't detect the dashcams wifi or Bluetooth networks to connect. The head unit is 2.4 ghz wifi only and the dash cam claims it's dual wifi (2.4/5.0 ghz). Both claim 5.0 Bluetooth. I have tried manually adding and connecting to dash cams wifi using different encryption keys with no success. Same issue before update to VIVID10 also.

- The Bluetooth is crippled and only works for phones and certain obd adapters
- The max10 can't do 5ghz... only 2.4
- The camera software will not do wifi cams.

Bob,
Thanks for the follow up! Has anyone been able to successfully bypass the internal wifi/Bluetooth with USB wifi/Bluetooth adapter installs on these Android head units. I've read rumors of wifi bypass of others that know someone, but have yet to find any helpful links. Also not sure I follow regarding the camera software not doing wifi cams. Are you referring to Dasaita's DVR camera apps?

As far as I know... yes. The app is trained to look for cams on usb and on the dedicated dvr cam plugin. I have not been able to get it to look elsewhere for cameras.
From what I understand, some people have had LIMITED success with usb bluetooth adapters. Some have managed to get them recognized, but then they operate in the same crippled fashion. The bluetooth regardless of what bluetooth system you use, will only recognize phones and some basic obd2 adapters and as far as I know, no one has been able to work around that.... and this is not just Dasaita... but pretty much all of them.
would rooting fix this limitation?
Bump - anyone out there was able to get Bluetooth for anything other than phones/OBD devices to work with any of these Android head units?
I have tried three off-the-shelf Bluetooth dongles and playing with the BT "drivers?" in the list for BT under Factory settings (i.e Head Unit > Settings > Car > Factory Settings > BT).
No luck!

No, you cannot. See above posts.

BT type lost

Greetings. Whilst trying to get my OBD dongle to connect to display OBD data for FCCL I tried changing the module type in Fac Settings. I now, using genius, cannot remember the default. HU is a GS from Xtrons PQS1039BL. Many Thanks
