Just picked up a gorgeous like-new Phantom Silver 20x in the UK, my second Mate 20X. As I suspected it is the EVR-AL00 Chinese variant.
Any of you guys can advise me of the advantages / disadvantages of sticking with this over another EVR-L29? I have 14 days to decide.
I can see there are a bunch of Chinese apps on there - not much use to me, as I can't read Chinese. Immediately I see the phone upgrading to EMUI 11.
If it won't run Google services it's no use to me at all.
I see there are some companies online that will rebrand the Chinese hardware to the Global version. These seem to have decent reviews in the forums.
I would have to do this if I keep the phone. Typically I would avoid this to minimise the chance of security issues on the device.
I have 12 months warranty from the vendor even if Huawei UK won't support it. I plan to ask them in any case.
Any pros/cons I missed?
I used AL00 version for couple of months and I could not stand the amount of bloatware and random chinese popups. Two weeks ago I decided to convert it to L29. Now I have normal gapps without the hassle of installing them myself. Google assistant works flawlessly and the most important thing is that the bloatware is gone. I have no problems with banking apps after conversion. I am aware that chinese model gets updates earlier and more frequently but as for me its not worth it. After all support for this phone will be dropped in nearby future. EMUI11 will be the last major update for C432.
Thanks for your thoughts, appreciated.
I have EVR L29 but I even uninstalled all google apps or possible to uninstall
AL00 user here. i made the conscious choice to go the chinese model route, since its the only way to get 8/256GB RAM/Storage config. 5G model is not an option for me due to lack ot headphone jack and smaller battery capacity.
if you know how to do it / research it online, its not a biggie to remove/deactivate all chinese bloatware and install google services yourself, no total conversion needed to global model. this way i get all the pros (ram/storage, early updates), without any cons (smaller battery/no headphone jack in 5G model, no google services, chinese bloatware). happy customer right here
Nice! Glad it worked out for you.

yeah, depending on what u prefer either option could be better suited for you. the chinese software, aside from faster updates, also includes stuff like call recording or the huawei messaging app that some users might prefer to have.
in general, more choice is always more better

I saw 4g version on aliexpress 8/256. Does it mean that it is al00 with global firmware or real evr-L29 8/256. I asked cause you wrote that you had to choose chinesse version 8/256

there is no EVR-L29 with 8/256 config, at least not for 4G. so its definitely an AL-00 chinese model that might have a global firmware installed on it.

That'w what I wanted to know. Then, it looks like they add global rom to evr-al00. I had chinese version before and decided to sell it and now i don't know which one to buy.
BTW. Did you have 6/128 before? Is there any diffefence betwen 6/128 and 8/256 in speed?
The EVR-L29 with 6/128 was plenty fast for me, plays the FPS games I want and I never came close to filling up the storage. Even with Amazon, Netflix, Spotify, Audible downloads etc.
I loved the silver/purple colour of the EVR-AL00 and would have liked to keep it. The project to change the firmware could have been fun, but the uncertainty just put me off. Plus I found another mint EVR-L29 with two years warrantee and full accessories for the same price. So there was no justification to keep it.

Which one do you have now? Evr-al00 6/128 or 8/256?
I sent back the EVR-AL00 which was also 6/128 and traded it for the EVR-L29.

nope, never had a 6/128 model, went straight for the 8/256 config. the only situation where u would notice any slowdowns would be if the ram was filled to the brink and the system would have to dump memory or switch to flash storage instead. both unlikely scenarios at this point in time. 6gb ram should be sufficient to handle anything right now.

Yeah, I never regretted it. Really liked the idea of a new colour 20x in my pocket but economically and time-cost-wise it made no sense. I just got a few dfferent colour cases from Aliexpress for my L29 and change them around with the wallpaper when I feel like something new.

Appreciate if you can share links. I've done mine and it still kinda fritzes in some Google Play related functions. Sync issues with certain apps and such. Like you I'm on the China ROM on ver 11 now.

Hi guys, I was fairly certain I'd get the Redmi Note 7 Pro 6/128, but once I saw the RealMe X, the choice was fairly simple. The Chinese ROM is quite a bit cheaper than the Indian Global ROM, and I was wondering if any of you using these versions could give me some first hand feedback as to any major drawbacks of the Chinese ROM, or any major upsides of the Indian Global variant. My main concern is an overload of Chinese language prompts and settings questions. I'll need a launcher either way so the impact of ColorOS is fairly minimal. The two versions are slightly different, I'll be getting the 6/64GB Chinese version, while the Indian versions only have 4/128GB and 8/128GB. I don't want to get a 4GB RAM phone now given the fairly quick rise in capacities over the past year, 6GB futureproofs me fairly well for the next few years. Any suggestions are helpful, thanks for taking the time to read.
i have personally bought the chinese version for my sister in law. Let me tell you, the chinese language is very minimal after u change the language to english. its very useable. What i found to ease the stress is change the keyboard from whatever it comes with to google keyboard. this makes the chinese even more minimal. then just go about your day like its the global rom after u delete all the useless chinese apps. im sure with time there would be a guide for TWRP and the installation of either pixel experience or the global rom. I cant wait

That's very helpful man, thanks! One last question, I know the Indian Global version doesn't have a dedicated memory slot, and any memory card takes up SIM2 hybrid slot, but is it same for the Chinese one?

I will agree with the others that after changing to English there is very little in the way of Chinese in the rom. That being said the breeno assistant is all Chinese and I hate it, would much rather have the Google assistant in its place, but I may just not know how to change it or something. I guess for me what has been shocking is the overbearing battery management and app freezing resulting in at first almost zero push notifications. I get why they do this but man I want my notifications for messenger, line, whattsapp, Twitter, Gmail and at first nothing. I have fixed most of this with app freeze settings but for the life of me cannot get Hangouts notifications to work until I open the app and then I get a flood...weird! Other than this I really like the phone, coming from a Nexus 6 and Nexus 6p as my last few phones it has taken a bit to get used to ColorOS, I still hate it and would prefer stock clean Android but I am sure that will come at some point soon.

Not sure about the assistant, but if we can't change it now, I'm sure it can be replaced in the near future. I've heard there are a bunch of sensors that consume battery like crazy, especially the movement sensor for the under screen fingerprint scanner which turns on the screen and activates the sensor when movement like the phone being picked up is sensed, there are a bunch of other ones and there are videos out there to help you turn all or most of these off.
You could just get Nova Launcher or something similar, that changes the appearance , and as for Android 1, not a lot of phones in this segment have it. The Mi A3 has it, but it's display is 720p....
EDIT: Could either of you or anyone else who own a RealMe X please post a Antutu Benchmark? I've seen the RealMe X is much better optimized than the RealMe 3 Pro and the results vary quite a bit. Thanks.
Here you go!
Second test on performance mode.
If you want to get a smooth experience, you need to adb uninstall a lot of apps...
Good thing is that it keeps the Google Framework and Google Play. All you need to do is to re-enable the Google Play or install Google Play apk again to get the original store to work.

Thank you so much man! Seems the Vivo Z1 Pro gets about 173k without any boosts enabled thanks to the 712 chip. For long term usage I think the punch-hole may fare better than the Pop up? When it comes to the display the RealMe X just blows it away, which is a huge factor really, spending hour after hour looking at the screen, it needs to be great!

Yeah I saw a video, takes just a few seconds, go into the Store and just download google play store, just as easy as that(P.S. That was for Mi Store, not sure what RealMe does). We're already paying them for a phone, so you'd think they could keep the bloatware to a minimum.
For the realme just get the play store off apkmirror or apk pure or something. I am currently writing this post with an Xiaomi mi 9t which is the competition to the RealMe I personally think for the extra $70 it's not bad but I prefer the RealMe when it comes to selfie pictures.im no professional and the RealMe may do more software processing but the RealMe does look better. Also the breeno assistance is anmoying but we have to wait for a bootloader unlock and then a totally English Rom. Patience, it wud happen in time.

Best offer for a RealMe X. If you wait for 10% eBay bucks it drops to about $200 after the cash back. It's totally worth it even with it shipping from China. U get the eBay protection and return if u don't want it. Even cheaper than the aliexpress and bangoods
Hello,
I'm dreaming on buying a Mate 20x.
But I'm still in doubt if I must get the AL00 or the L29.
Here where I live, I'll have to import it.
The L29 version is at the same price than the AL00 8gb 256 version.
How is the AL00 going on after the latest updates? Still not worth buying?
Enviado de meu VOG-L29 usando o Tapatalk
If you want a phone to work right out of the box without having to work out notification quirks, downloading Google services, some banking apps not working, etc, go with the L29.
If you are somewhat techy and don't mind making a few tweaks, go with the AL00.
I went from a international Mate 20 X to a p30 pro as I wanted the better camera, newer specs etc. I had it for one month and missed the 20x so much I sold it and bought an AL00 now and it is fantastic. I still think the mate 20 X is the best phone to date. Sure, it may not have tops in hardware, camera etc but it is the nicest phone I have used.

Had to uninstall a few apps but it was easy to do. I am in the process of sending back the AL00 and have ordered the L29 as too many things such as notifications, google back up, google pay, all not working fully and I just can’t justify the price tag for a phone that only half works.
My AL00 is getting faster with every update. I love it!
Yeah, I had to do some initial tweaks here and there but currently all the apps I use are working great.
Still no option to replace Huawei's launcher though, unless you root.

Hi my friend, glad to see you in this topic as well. we use to talk in LeTv Le Max X900 topic as well back in time...
Back on Topic : I have 2 units AL-00 and i have to say i would take the AL-00 anyday instead of the International one for 2 reasons : Much more faster Updates and Stable ROM's. I don't use any G Services, only Youtube, so for me there is no point to use the L29 International version.
I see people that had problems with the Notifications... My notifications works great in both units, more than that, sometimes they are annoying and i had to Disable them manually
Cheers

I guess the love for big phones runs deep!
I think lately the ROMs have become a lot less restrictive on notifications so things are getting better. I just lock some of the apps I need running all the time from the "recents" screen (there is a small lock icon) and everything is ok.
I on the other hand use a lot of Google services, Contacts, Calendar, YouTube, Search, Chrome, Maps, Drive, Translate, Play Store... All of them run fine. I can't vouch for Google Pay as it is not supported in my country.
Is there a list of things to uninstall and disable on the AL00? I just got mine and want to have it as optimized as possible. Thanks

You can search for the Script to Debloat the Mate 20 X... it's supposed to be plug & Play... Just be carefully, as there is some apps which if you gonna disable them you're going to have a crash on the system or some options from the Software would not work... Here is a Safe List of Apps which you can remove them : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-x/how-to/guide-remove-apps-adb-t3870727

Hi, I am planning to upgrade to Poco F3(Mi 11X) however, while ordering on Amazon(in) I found too many 1 star reviews mostly for heating and touch related issues. Do this model still has serious heating and touch/ other problems. I root all my devices and move to custom rom and will do the same if I get this phone. After reading the reviews, I am confused and need some honest opinions from users owning the device. I am a moderate user ( YouTube, whatsapp, genshin impact , pubg etc.).
The update to fix such issues will soon hit the Indian variant of the Poco F3 (Mi 11x).
However, I don't think they will be able to fully fix any heating issues, this is because the heat of the device is fully defendant on the ambient temperature.
In the case of India, it's hot there. Almost all devices are bound to overheat unless you are in a air conditioned environment at all times when using the device especially for gaming.
If you're just using it for daily apps, you'll should be fine once they push the global fixes to the Indian variant.

I can't say what you are looking for in a phone, but so far all the issues you mentioned that were given one star reviews on Amazon India have been pretty much fixed globally.
Since the Indian variant was the last one to be released, I fully expect the same fixes to be pushed to the Indian variant in future updates.
As an alterntive since you metioned custom roms, you can just unlock the phone and install Xiaomi.EU rom and not have deal with any of the problems you mentioned above...

After using it for a few weeks I haven't had any screen dimming (global software). In pubg it got warm, but not uncomfortable after some use. I haven't played genshin. The only real issue mine has is the green tint/uneven screen at low brightness. But that's not really bad. it's only visible in a dark room with grey backgrounds.

You probably need to signed up for MIUI beta testing account (I don't know how to do so) or you can just unlock the bootloader and install using Mi Flash? (I don't know much about rom installation on the Indian variant).
the is fine, iuse as my daily driver, not kindo of the "gamer" one, but it work really good on all apps i used
the camera ...well it's good (still under RN10P) but since not photo lover so (for me) i say it's fine.
as for the heat, it will be warm (outdoor) when playing high res gaming, & i encounter some lag on extreme graphic set on some game...
the only problem for me is that gesture navigation doesn't work on 3rd party launcher & i think xiaomy will never fix that problem...

This phone is a bomb!
Lets talk frustrated people who spend their bucks for a top High end.
I am a low to moderate user and have upgraded all the way from Redmi 8 to Mi 11X. Din't use the handset for 20 days as I had planned to sell it after finding that it doesn't have Mi dialler and messaging apps. But 15 days later found out that Miui EU ROM has those. Applied for bootloader unlock and installed Miui EU 12.5.2.0 and now updated to 12.5.3.0. Since my basic usage is calls, WhatsApp, Facebook & Twitter via chrome browser and nothing else, I haven't faced any issues as such. I have already 40 third party apps installed like for travelling, banking, food ordering, etc. Haven't faced any issues so far. Don't know about heating as I never user it to the extent.

Hello,
I tried to find an answer to the following question:
I have an OnePlus 9 Pro bought at TradingShenzen, so it is a Chinese Version with the India OS (actual OS: 11.2.7.7.LE15DA). So the DA hints me, that it is the India-version of the OS. I am aware, that I miss one band for 5G which is no big deal to me.
I was wondering if I can switch from the DA-version to the BA-version (EU-version).
If I can switch what will be the benefit and/or downside? Is anyone her who already did this?
Thanks an d kind regards
What region are you based and using the device, the switch can be made with the full rom but it may require a wipe so please take a backup before you proceed.
I live in the Netherlands and work in Germany, so in the middle of the EU region.
At the moment I do not see any reason to switch because everything works fine, it is more a question like did I miss something or might there be a reason like less bloatware that could make me switch.
A full wipe is no problem, I do backups of data on a regular basis

There is an old saying, don’t fix what ain’t broken. Don’t have any kind of FOMO, IN rom is probably the best suited for your device and is the fastest to get updates as well. Stay with it and enjoy the oos experience till you can.
Best wishes,
Funk
That's what I also had in mind
I was just wondering if there are differences between the EU and India version. Maybe EU related stuff... but if not it would indeed make no sense at all to switch the OS...

I know this is a couple of weeks old, but I was in the exact same boat as you mate, I did some digging and if anything, the Indian ROM seems to have more features vs some of the others. The extra cloud storage via the "red cable club" promo stuff, free vouchers for discounts, etc. The Indian version even receives updates much faster than the other versions. I was planning to switch to the global/Canada ROM but after getting OOS 11.2.8.8 nearly 2 weeks earlier, I was sold on sticking with the Indian software.

I totally agree with this. I use visible Wireless which is technically verizon. Phone works perfectly on the Indian 8.8.
The only downside I've noticed is that oddly enough substratum doesn't seem to work properly on Indian builds. And I don't know why that even is -- as it doesn't make any sense.
I've just received my global op11 a few days ago and I'd like to share my experience after also having a Motorola x40 CN version for a couple of weeks.
I paid 530£ for the Motorola but honestly it's so much better than OnePlus. Better software, more features, Wireless charging, ip68, better speakers(not louder but more bass) and telephoto camera seems better. Unfortunately because it was a Chinese variant, that means no possibility to lock BL on global Rom like OnePlus and no support, warranty etc. Limited Google services. It also seems to warm up a bit more than Motorola
Now for the OnePlus 11.
I pre-ordered and received a 100£ discount and a speaker which I'm planning to sell for 150£ și technically I'm only paying 550£ for the phone itself.
What's better about the OnePlus is the main camera and battery and also much better support because it's a more popular device and I get EU warranty and proper Google services.
Conclusion is:
If the Motorola launches x40 globally and it's in the same price range or has discounts or offers equivalent I would 10000% go for Motorola. It's a much much better phone

Interesting thanks for your small review about the moto X40, I also ordered one from china.
Do you think we could just flash the EU rom from the edge 40 when it comes out? As both phones are identical.
I just wonder also what you mean with no possibility to lock BL on global Rom? Does it mean we can't unlock the bootloader of the Moto X40?

You can't relock bootloader on Global, it'll bricked like Xiaomi chinese phone.
I live in China and I also used moto x40 for a week (then returned it), and now I've used OnePlus 11 for over a month.
There are obviously some reasons that I can't accept with moto x40:
- The screen is easily getting touched by mistakes, especially on the edge of the screen. Sometimes even if I just hold the phone in my hand and do not move my fingers at all, the phone still thinks I'm touching the screen.
- Sometimes the system is stuck while scrolling in a list view, especially in the "global" apps (e.g. twitter, youtube).
Overall the hardware of x40 is good, but the software is less good than I expect.
OnePlus 11 has a higher price, (¥4000 for x40 and ¥4400 for OP 11, both are 256GB models), but it's reasonable because OP 11 has 16 GB RAM (x40 has 12GB).
OP 11 also has a better camera and a longer battery life.
The only downside for OP 11 is the type-c port is running at USB 2.0, which limits it to 480 Mbit/s. x40 has a full-featured USB 3.2 port, including video outputs.

Hmm okay so that means you cant get official updates anymore if you unlock BL? Need to flash them manually? That's a bit dissapounting indeed but not impossible to do .
Are we sure phone will get bricked on the x40 if we try relock BL? Is this a common issue?

Thanks for your opinion, what was your SOT with the x40? I'm having a note 20 ultra and my SOT is pretty bad on this phone I got only around 4hours and mostly I need to charge it second time during the end of the day. Was hoping the moto x40 would have better battery

I barely check the SOT...
Basically, I charge it every day and a half. The charging speed is amazing, it only took like 20 minutes for a full charge.

Yea you can flash global Rom . There's already sellers on AliExpress shipping it with global Rom.
I mean that once you flash global Rom you can't lock the bootloader. You can only lock BL on official Rom.
You can easily unlock BL and flash ROMs but you can't lock back unless you're back on original Rom

100% sure you'll get bootloop if you relock on different Rom. And no, even if you buy from AliExpress a Chinese version with global Rom, you won't get OTA

Not amazing but not bad either considering the capacity of the battery. I was happy with the sot
Alright perfect thanks for the info guys !
Let's hope we'll get a XDA forum section soon for the moto X40 / edge 40

There's a section on 4pda
I got my eye on x40 long time, before comming out..
I hope they are not stupid and lounch Global version.
But, i read the Motorola is Bad (to be elegant.) to updates and fixing bugs.
I see many people selling they Edge 30 Ultra., which is a very well equipped (hardware) phone. I am 10.000 % that is the reason.
One thing you are missing is that OnePlus now offers good software updates, whereas with Motorola you will be lucky to get quarterly updates that are buggy. OnePlus 11 also has far superior battery life and better rear cameras, with a more active development community.
