Sense 6 is the ONLY custom Android skin I actually enjoy, but I miss the pop up notification functionality of AOSP roms. Most third party SMS apps I've tried blow. Any Sense builds out their with HOVER? Or an alternative?

Use xposed and enable heads-up notification
Hey there,
Im really bothered by the fact that the android 8 stock Icons are all square shaped and all the third party icons are individual shaped. So I tried making new shortcuts/icons to the third party apps as I'm used to. I tried it with the following apps:
- Materialize
- Awesome Icons
- Icon Changer free
All these apps used to work on Android 7 but now none of these work. How does it come that I cant create new shortcuts, is this a bug? Can anyone try to reproduce to see if it's just me or a new Android 8 "feature"?
How to get Oreo style vertical recent app switcher on Android Pie (9.0).
Using Nova launcher does not help as App Switcher is now bulit into the default launcher now.
I read that one can disable default launcher using ADB and then use 3rd party launcher which will then allow recent app switcher to be changed, but that was on Google Pixel forum, I'm not sure how it will go for Zenfone 5z.
If anyone has tried it then do specify here.

The support from Nova can't help.
Gestures dont work with any of 3rd party launchers (miui 12 android 11). You can change to custom rom when be available or use fluid gesture app here Link to xda thread. I tried without root on Xiaomi Pad 5 and work but not very well.
