hi i'm having app issues since i have android 11.
some emulators that I have (dolphin) do not have access to the microsd folder where I have the roms.
does this happen to you? Is there any solution? wait for the application update?
thanks
we'll just have to wait until devs update apps to be compatible with scoped storage
Yep, my microsd is readable till my phone lock himself. After that it dismount the card and I have a try at next day... same thing happens again and again. I didn't found a solution, but I still have 120 Gb free space in phone...
Meh... that's one reason I'm staying on Pie.
If I wanted scoped storage I have gotten a bloody Apple.
Is it possible for samsung to fix that microsd bug? or should it be google?

Assuming Google gives Samsung the leeway to fix it, Samsung could... eventually.
Lol, took over a year for them to fix the Buds firmware
Does anyone know of an e-mail to contact Samsung?

You can phone them in the USA. Their tech support is pretty much worthless.
Best bet is a Google search but the OS is very new so it's going to be slim pickens. You might luck out though. Try other makes and models as it may be a shared issue.
I don't fully understand: the problem accessing your SD card is with any app, or with some particular apps? If the problem is with any app, this is a major bug that makes unusable a hardware section. Can you please clarify please? Thank you very much.
Update: I have read more about "scoped storage", and I think that the problem is only with apps that "need" to access beyond its own storage (like file managers, photo managers, etc). In that case, I think that the solution is just to keep with "old API" version of those apps, that will not have the Andoid 11 "scoped storage". I hope I am ok.

If you have Magisk: have you tried tze Magisk module mentioned here in XDA https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/module-exsdcard-write-access-enabler-5-0-8.3670428/?
Hello ! I am still trying to understand "scoped storage" before upgrading my Note 10+ to Android 11.
Does anybody know what will happen if using an "old" application targeted for APIS older than 30 ? Is it possible that old APKs still are allowed to access the SD Card ?
Example: I have a couple of apps (file managers type) used to do some back-ups to the SD Card. Using AppChecker, I have found that they are API 28 and API 29. So these APKs can still access SD Card under Android 11 ?
Thank you very much in advance.

1. Clear cache;

3. Wait for root + custom ROMs with APPS2SD
I am now wondering ... What is this "cache" ?
Do we really need to clean it periodically?
It would be nice if there is a widget to clean this.
And honestly, I am not impressed with the storage ... 512 RAM seems a lot, but actually it is NOT
I have removed Google earth as it was taking up nearly 22MB which in the grand scheme of things seems to be load of space....
I never understand why they don't a minimum of 1gb internal storage on these devices for apps.

...or just allow for apps to be installed on a memory card from the first place
Seems like that they [Android OS] have realised that without doing so, they will not be able to have storage hungry things such as games to be installed.
36 as I counted, is normal IMO. But yeah, I really hope that you will be able to install applications on your SD card in the future. Not that I want more apps, but I want BETTER apps (which means they will be more MB's). I remember downloading games for the iPod touch that were over 100 MB. They were also off very high quality.
About not allowing installing apps to SD card: I think the reason why it is not allowed is the following.. if you can install something to your SD card, you can easily share it with other over the internet, right? That will mean people will start downloading apps the 'dirty' way! That's the only reason I see.
But Google is very smart and so far keeps giving everybody what they want. I am sure they will find a solution!

When you use apps, it stores some files in memory for quicker access later. Downside of it is that it takes-up space. Normally you would not want to clear cache that often, but if you're running out of space it helps.
Unfortunately you can only clear cache for each app one-by-one, but here's an app that might make the process easier http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.cerisierbleu.qac
You can not store any apps on your memory card!
I did not know this
I have low space as well!
I have a game which is 20MB, i do not want to delete it beacuse it is the best game I have.
Is there no way to put it on your memory card?

No, you can't put apps on memory card until we have root and get to use cool ROMs like CyanogenMod.
Or until Google adds official support for apps2sd, but I can bet you that root will come first.
the reason why google doesnt allow apps etc to be installed on SD cards is because of security of the system, meaning that through this it would be probably easier to root or hack the device and they re working on some kind of encryption for this, and it will be included in the future update,
someone from this forum posted it somewhere here in this section
I also got low memory on my G1 with Apps2sd. That's because every app stores stuff on the internal memory, the browser cache, google maps cache and so on. My experience showed me that these things are the real memory killer.

Google will encrypt that partition of the sdcard so it is secure. IIRC, support for something with the sd card was checked in recently, along with the support for the LED (for the nexus one). I imagine apps2sd is something all android devices will be seeing soon.
Personally, I would be screwed if I couldn't install apps to my sd card on my phone...as stated above, google earth takes up way too much space. Tack on a couple games and a dozen apps? Forget it.

right. does that mean we wont be able to replace the sd cards unless we 'install' some additional files onto it?
and I think if google wont do this pretty quickly, droid might loose a vast amount of clients, because this is one of the reasons why iphone is so popular.

I thought it was due to the fact that the paid apps wouldn't be secure on the sd card, opening the gate further for app piracy and thus they were working on a solution to allow copy protection on the sd card.
I think this issue just turned me off the Desire and now I'm leaning towards the Nexus 1. I like to install plenty of apps so this could be a real issue for me
All android phones are the same, its just a matter of time before its sorted you can still get plenty of apps on, personally i can't see how anyone would need more than 10.

not sure to be honest. I would assume that you will be able to mount your sd card and copy all of the contents off the secured/encrypted partition if your machine recognizes that partition type...then again, maybe you won't be able to.
If you upgrade sd cards, you may have to start all over with installing to the sd card. Good question.

the iphone is popular for lots of reasons; app support being at the top...but I would imagine the viral advertising and the "everyone has it" thing doesn't hurt.
Funnily enough, Android is almost on as many mobile devices as iphoneOS (according to an admob metric report). So the "everyone has it" argument is about to become a moot point.

Heyy guys
Has anyone noticed that if you arrange the icons on the arc when the phone is restarted the icons all move around...
Is this just me or has it happened to others?
Thanks,
Jinx13
I got same issue, upon every restart the phone shuffles the icons adding new windows and places 2 or 3 icons on window or so...
What I've noticed is that this only applies to apps stored on the SD card, anything stored on the phone memory will stay in place.

Is it possible to be the low-class SD doing this? The standard default SD Card included in Arc's box is Class 2 I believe.
Could higher class SD card fix this? Can someone with Class 4-6-8-10 share impression please?
It is strange tough, I'm using the SD card provided with the Arc and dont have any problems.
I read some people did have problems with the launcher but that was fixed in SEs latest android version, are you guys on the latest version ?
more people are having this problem :

Glad to hear it's not just me lol I also have the latest version 2.3.3
I didn't actually notice that it was only the apps on the SD card that moved till it was mentioned
Using 2.3.3 here as well.
Hope this will be fixed in upcoming updates, cause its annoying...not that i restart my phone often, but nevertheless when you do you need to spend some time to re-arrange all the icons back again or just scrolling arround till you find that you need.
Depends on how many craps you have installed on you phone lol.
Brah.
Have same issue with icons.
2.3.3 did not help at all.
This has got to be the worst move ever made by Google (and I'm a Google fanboy). Makes me frustrated. Samsung is one of the only companies providing micro sd card slots, and now this comes and screws that up. What can you even do with a micro sd card now besides read it...?!
Here is the article: http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/65841
Leibeck explains what this means to users, writing,
“If your device has user-accessible internal flash storage, your SD Card is a “secondary external storage device”.
What this means is that with KitKat, applications will no longer be able create, modify, or remove files and folders on your external SD card. As a for-instance, you can no longer use a file manager to copy files from your computer to the SD card over a network. This ability, which has existed since the beginning of Android, has been taken away.”

This is horrible.....shame on google
I'll be waiting. No need to rush in and be an early adopter. I wonder how the S5 is handling this/going to.
Google mess it up on purpose, to force people to use their cloud services and be bombarded by their advertising, that's how they make money and their official explanation to improve security is so lame. Anyhow, hopefully Samsung will fix it sooner or later, or you can root it and fix it yourself, loosing warranty in the process. I took the high road and will not update, until a) it's all fixed or b) my warranty runs out and won't care about Knox at all.
Google gets on my nerves lately, first they messed up new maps update (at least I got option to stay on old version for now) and now this.

Google changed it because a lot of folks were having their app data store on the sdcard, which later on caused stability issues with the apps loading. Some resulted in FCs, crashes etc etc. So in order to increase stability, and possibly even security in Android, Google made the move to allow on app data to be stored internally. You can store and do whatever else you want to do on the sdcard like storing music, photos, other files etc etc. App data can no longer be stored on external...
Personally I don't mind, the Note 3 comes with 32GB minimum... That's plenty for me....

I still can go to settings and change to save the pictures to the SD card. It's the app data, not pictures that you can't move to an SD card.

Hello,
They said they will be moving to unified memory for future phones not for the oppo find 7/7a.
Yes it does however I installed all my apps today and still have 1.5gb left!
The method of changing the preferred location will put your apps in the "other" storage partition. The only problem with that is some of the apps don't like the "other" section, especially widgets so they won't work properly. I have all my apps that I normally carry on my phone and I'm fine. The structure is stupid/antiquated and will be corrected at some point in the future but for me, for now, it's not that big of a deal. If you're a gamer that might pose a bigger problem but I'm not certain if apps to SD applications wouldn't solve at least some of the issues?

You had you phone for how much time ?
I guess not very long and the partition is already half full.
Now the cached data are going to grow and of course there are going to be update too.
I wonder how much time is needed in your case before you need to do some cleaning.

It's a method of bypassing a security feature. They have to close down these exploits because they want a bigger share of the enterprise market. Most companies aren't too keen on letting people receive sensitive data on an insecure device.

This is extremely aggravating. Adopted storage can be made to be just as secure. What a pain in the arse these locked down phones are! I'd rather sacrifice most of these "security" features for freedom.

If I am not wrong adoptable storage breaks your phone if you remove the SD card. And another phone won't read it.
I constantly switch SD cards and copy files from and to my friend's phones because it is faster than wireless methods.
Adoptable storage is good for people who just keep their SD card in all the time

If I understand it correctly, adoptable storage also lets you set up partitions on your SDcard. So part of it will still work just like in the past, therefore allowing you to still have a user defined section of it available to still transfer data by popping the card in and out of various devices. This would be the best of both worlds.
As a mobile gamer, I SERIOUSLY hope someone finds a way to incorporate adoptable storage on the Note 7!!!! The data folders for HD games are so big these days that with just 20 HD games or so I have almost run out of storage space already on my 64GB Note 7. I have rooted all of my previous Note devices for this very reason (in order to store game data on the external card), but was hoping that the Note 7 could be the first one that I would NOT have to root. Now Samsung has screwed this up AGAIN...just like last time with the Note 5 where there was no SDcard used at all.
If anyone can figure out a way to use adoptable storage on the Note 7, it will be tremendously appreciated!!!!!!!! Thx.

The ways in which someone could use a memory card formatted in a typical manner is restricted. In a nut shell the phone treats it as a source for content like music or videos, but won't let you copy applications and other types of content to it. This also means that data that some applications use can't be moved to the cards. Applications that are for consuming content (ex: an audio book reader or a video player) potentially could use a lot of memory and there's no way to save it in anything other than the device's main memory. I personally struggle with 64-gigs. The Note 5 didn't have a memory card option at all. I have a GS7 and enabled it's memory card to be used as adoptable storage and it works great for my needs/demands. I had been hoping that between the 64 gigs built into the Note 7 and the 256 gig memory card available for it that I would have more than enough. But hearing the news in this thread strongly disappointments me.

Now Samsung has screwed this up AGAIN...just like last time with the Note 5 where there was no SDcard used at all.
If anyone can figure out a way to use adoptable storage on the Note 7, it will be tremendously appreciated!!!!!!!! Thx.

I don't have a link or anything but there is a no root method of doing it now. People just tend to advise not using it that way as if the card becomes corrupted for any reason it may negatively affect your internal HD. Also if the card us removed for any reason it can create problems because the OS isn't set up to react to the HD being removed.
I have no experience with it myself but that's what I read about it. Biggest use the SD card would have is utilizing some of it as RAM when a root releases officially but other than that everything I've read advised using it for storage only.
Kind if sad since I got the SD card ad a promo gift but hopefully all that space will come in handy as the phone updates or gets more root love.

Well, that is EXACTLY what we are referring to in this thread. The source that you do not have the link to in order to enable Adoptable Storage on any device is referred to as the "ADB Modaco Adoptable Storage Method". It is supposed to work on ANY Marshmallow device, but for some reason as some of us have tested, it DOES NOT WORK on the Note 7. Samsung probably found out about it and BLOCKED it just because they think they know what's best. Its STUPID!!! Its a stock Android feature & should have been left alone!
Now my fear is that they somehow break this method on the S7 &S7 Edge with their stupid "Grace UI" update & it would have been pointless for me to exchange my Note 7.
Will be disabling "System Updates" with Debloater on my S7 Edge... try blocking THAT!!!

Just finding this it now! I've been expectantly waiting for my 256 Gig SD card just so that I could partition it and use part for adoptable storage. I am beyond belief that Samsung has blocked it! Damn them!
