Rcs messaging restore - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I'm hoping someone knows a solution to the rcs messaging restore problems... I'm currently using a Hauwei p20 pro, it's stock texting app is Google messages, I want to go back to using my Samsung galaxy S8 (stock texting app is Samsung messaging). sms backup and restore supports rcs messaging as long as the text app used is Google messages, all of my rcs messages are being backed up but not restored. I installed Google messages on the Samsung and set it as my default app but the rcs messages aren't restored. I think I might have to root my phone and uninstall Samsung messenger... does anyone know of a way to force the backup to Google messages manually?

[Q]Re-Install Stock Messaging App

I'm going to start off with some background information. I have been using the SMS app Handcent for a little while now, and it has been giving me a lot of trouble with MMS messages with them not sending nor receiving, whereas the stock messaging app could receive them.
Alright, and now we are into where I screwed up... I read that if you made the stock messaging app a user app and handcent a system app, then the permissions will correct and I would be able to send/receive the MMS messages. However, when I made the stock messaging app a user app, it deleted itself. I figured it wouldn't be so bad after I got handcent to work, but handcent still doesn't receive/send MMS messages, and I have no way of sending/receiving them because the stock messaging app got deleted. So, I was wondering if there was a way to get back my stock messaging app for Android 4.1.2. If anyone could help me fix the handcent thing as well, that would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time!

Google Hangouts app not notifying for SMS messages

My girlfriend has an S4 mini from Canada (SGH-I257M, Telus but unlocked and being used on AT&T in the US). She dislikes using the stock messaging app and prefers to use Google Hangouts for SMS as she did on her old phone. The issue is that it will not notify or say that theres a new text message unless she goes into the app itself to check. Other apps such as Handcent SMS and the stock app work fine. I have tried disabling all other SMS apps and deleting and reinstalling Hangouts. It has not worked. MMS/picture messages will have notifications from hangouts.
Hangouts does work fine with SMS for me on my Verizon SCH-I435 however. Not sure what the problem could be. I at first thought it was bad APN settings so I looked up the correct AT&T settings and put them in.
Any solutions would be helpful.

[Q] How to integrate Viber into Hangouts?

On my gf's G3, Viber texts will show in the stock messaging app but not in Hangouts (even when Hangouts is set as the default messaging app). Any way to fix this?
Also, I rooted it and froze most of the of the AT&T bloatware that came on it and now her contacts don't show names (just phone numbers). Any idea which one might be responsible for this? I tried unfreezing AT&T Address Book but it's still the same thing.
Hi,
There is no way to integrate Viber into Hangouts. You can enable the Free reply with Viber option, but that only applies to regular network SMS messages.

[Q] SMS messages only seen by stock app

Hi,
I am having issues with SMS messages not appearing in third party applications.
I am on
HTC One M8 (UK) Vodafone
Android 5.0.1
Sense 6.0
ROM Stock 4.19.161.2
For only a few contacts, I get SMS messages for them and they only appear in the stock HTC messaging app. I use Google Hangouts normally. I can always see the full conversation in the Stock app but other third party ones don't show the full conversation. I have tried Handcent and Textra as well, all behave like Hangouts and don't see the messages.
I deleted all SMS to clear out what I had, there is also a single SMS from one contact where I cannot open or delete their message but I can see the first few lines or so in the preview window. This leads me to believe the SMS db is corrupt or something. This may be related but the not being able to delete has been something recent and the not getting the 3rd party apps to see certain messages has been happening for a while.
I hope someone can help, really bugging me now.
I am on Stock at present, device is not rooted and I have not altered the bootloader etc.
Thanks
Jason

Backup for RCS?

If you haven't heard by now, there's been some strings in the Android Messages app indicating that there are going to be some new features coming to the app, potentially including RCS enabled by Google.
That sounds all fine and dandy; there's a number of benefits to rcs over sms. One problem though, is there doesn't seem to be a way to back them up. I'm someone who likes to back up all of my text messages - I've been using SMS backup and restore to do weekly backups for a little while now, and can take the resulting xml file anywhere i need to, and carry my texting threads to a new phone if I need to.
So when RCS inevitably becomes available (i'm on project fi), how can those be backed up? I've been searching all over for a while, and there doesn't seem to be a solution to this yet. Are they stored in the same directory as regular text messages? Why can't apps that backup sms/mms messages also backup rcs messages? is it just a matter of them being updated to include the capability, or is there a technical limitation to that?
tl;dr How can you backup rcs messages?
Unfortunately, you will have to downloada third party texting app. I'm having the same issue with my tmobile s9. I'm using the Mood messenger app. So far so good. Hopefully sms back up and restore comes up with an update supporting this RCS crap..
