Update to Android 11 issue - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

I'm using an ATT carrier unlocked S20+ on the Verizon network. I keep checking for an OTA update but nothing has come through. This is my first carrier unlocked phone so I'm not sure how I'd get updates or where they would come from. I've included some screen shots.
Would I be able to flash the new firmware through Odin if I cant get OTAs? If so, which firmware would I use? Verizon, ATT?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you flash 2.5 manually, or was it OTA? If it was OTA, you could just wait for ATT to release Android 11 for your device.
Either way, you could flash any G986U ROM. Any of these should work: https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G986U

I didn't flash anything. I bought it like this used. So I'd have to flash an ATT rom then. Would the phone receive an OTA update if ATT puts out an update even though I'm on Verizon network with a Verizon sim? Thanks for the info.

If you're an VZW I'd opt for a VZW ROM. https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G986U1/VZW/G986U1UEU1CTKJ

Ok so I've downloaded the file and got Odin. I'm planning on flashing this weekend. The only question I have is my phone is not rooted. Is that going to be a problem. It's been a while since I've customize my phone. I think the last one I rooted and flashed roms to was my S4. Thanks again for the info.

Don't worry. Flashing via Odin won't trigger knox status. Just remember to select HOME_CSC before you start flashing if you want to keep all your apps and data

Nah you're good. If you had root you'd lose it anyway, so you're good to go. Good luck!

you will only get ota on a att phone if you have a att sim card your best bet would be to flash the u1 firmware

i have a regular factory unlocked S20 (u.s. variant). can i make an image backup of my current phone and if need be revert back from Android 11 to Android 10 with the backed up image?

Thanks for all the info! I flashed the VZW version seamlessly. I used the patched Odin with no issues.
Now will I be able to receive any OTA updates or will I need to continue to flash new updates from now on?
Thanks again!

Try these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498233, stock at&t rooted without Knox (Believe me man, better without knox). But they are only leaks of the official firmware. I am not a professional developer so you might wanna create a new thread and ask if it's possible in you're situation.

The Canadian and US phones are pretty similar. Maybe a Canadian rom will work?

No it won't work. Since it is a stock rom it most likely will not work, he won't be able to call, text, or use data.

Based on the OP, the phone is currently running Verizon's 4.1 which leads me to believe the bootloader has not been updated beyond 4.1.2 since recovery mode is accessible; therefore, I think flashing 4.11 or 4.1.2 stock roms would be fine.
As always, it's best to check the installed bootloader before proceeding with any more flashes.
I used the stock firmware from here to downgrade my Bell s3 from stock 4.1.2 to stock 4.1.1.

[Q] sgh-i747 original updates

Hi all, I have an SGH-i747 with ver 4.0.4 which has been rooted. I will like to update my version systematically with the original updates i believe there where from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 then 4.1.2. then 4.3, 4.4.2 etcc.. its there a place where i can find the original ups, my phone will not take the original firmware updates on its own. Reason is once i try to flash any ROM pass 4.1.1 i loose the Mobile Data getting the no sim inserted msg and no signal, forcing me to go back the original state in order to work. seems there is a problem with the modem once i go pass 4.1.1. .. thank you.
What bootloader version is on the phone? Where did you get the firmware to flash? You're using desktop Odin to flash?
Are ota updates an option for you? If they are you can unroot and flash the stock recovery; it might be easiest just to Odin back to stock.
Otherwise enewman has posted firmware updates to xda. They are bootloader + modem zips you can flash in custom recovery. You have to flash them incrementally, mjb then ne4 then nj1. Search the forum here and you'll find them. Just be careful and read read read those threads. Messing with bootloaders is the best way to hard brick this phone.
I'm in a similar situation - I've been on a custom version of the Stock ROM for 4.1.2 - never bothered to update the bootloader because I had the soft unlock done, didn't want to lose it. Now I'm bored with it. I'd love to get up to 4.4, or even a 5.0 ROM... but not sure the steps needed to do so. I'm vaguely aware that I have to update the bootloader/kernel, etc... but it seems like I'm 4 years behind the curve with all the ROMs and threads about bootloaders, and I've lost my touch.
That thread with the list of bootloaders sounds good though, I'll go looking for it to start I guess.

Thanks! I'll give it a look, down a couple of shots of liquid courage, and give it a go this weekend.
EDIT: Yikes, didn't take long for that to fizzle out. I'm using a i747M. Noticed that my current baseband version isn't listed anywhere on that thread. Hmmm. Oh well, guess I'll do some more digging later...
With an i747m, you can flash the latest 4.4.2 using firmware from sammobile.com and desktop Odin.
Do I need to do them in sequence, or can I jump to the latest? I'm assuming once I've flashed the stock firmware, I can load any current custom ROM?
@gfinockio, is your phone sim unlocked? If not and you don't see any mention of the warranty bit in download mode, you could flash back to stock 4.1.1, use the free method to sim unlock, and then run OTA updates until you are running the latest ROM. OTA updates are the safest route to upgrade the phone.
If you phone is sim unlocked already, you could flash directly to the latest ROM; however, you will not be able to downgrade the bootloader as any attempts to downgrade the bootloader could hard brick you phone.

I used the "free unlock" in 4.1.2 (so it's unlocked) but I thought when you upgraded the bootloader you lost that lock. Now that I believe that isn't the case (and I've used a different tool to unlock as well), I may just try the OTA updates. I was with MTS (Manitoba), but now I'm with Rogers, so I guess I would just use the Rogers OTA images to upgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.4? Do I use Odin or whatever to do that? Once I upgrade to a "stock" image, won't the updater just prompt me to upgrade again and again until I'm "up to date"?
Unlocking the phone via code or the free method is permanent even after upgrading the ROM, bootloader, and modem.
The carrier ROMs for the i747m are pretty much identical but I always recommend sticking with the original carrier's ROM. If you download the stock image from sammobile.com, use Odin to flash the ROM.
OTA updates will not work with a rooted stock ROM too.
When i search for the stock firmware on sammobile for the i747m, it doesn't have any listings. Are you able to find it on there? I don't see it.
Search for the sgh-i747m.

It's been a while.. need a few tips.

I have the Sm-t800 (wifi) Tab s 10.5 and want to update it but I've been out of the game for a while.
I am currently running 4.4.2 IronRom v1.9.7 t800.. so you know its been a minute since I updated. I am kinda in a bind on how to flash the latest stock firmware (what are we actually on now) and to stick with stock or something AOSP. I literally use the device 99% to watch local storage movies or Netflix so that is what i need functional.
Thanks for the help in advance.
I flashed from a rooted stock kitkat to the latest stock lollipop using odin, getting ready for MM if we ever get it.

EDIT: A couple of questions if anybody can help
1: I flashed from stock lollipop back to stock kitkat using odin, my T800 was stuck on the Samsung logo and would not go past it, I booted to recovery and flashed lollipop and everything was fine and my T800 booted and setup fine.
2: How can i force a power-down from the Samsung logo, all i can do is reboot or get into recovery, I have done this before but i cannot remember the buttons to hold.

Thanks for the info.. I found the sammobile site but I was confused on which firmware (country mainly) to use since there wasn't specifically a US file. I was thinking "cellular south"?
I am using an Wifi only 10.5" so my firmware choice is easy.
It might be an idea to install TWRP first so you can backup your current rom in case you have a problem.

Your right, where are the USA roms? I downloaded the UK v5.0.2 lollipop from the link below.
Hopefully somebody can point you to the correct US rom, you need a different rom for exynos vs snapdragon cpu, though i think only the cell version has the snapdragon.
When i flash the stock lollipop, TWRP was gone and ROOT as well, ready for MM.

Problems upgrading Canadian T805W to MM

I'm struggling with getting my Canadian T805W upgraded to Marshmallow. Everything I try fails. I was running Phoenix Rom, but reverted back to stock Lollipop in the hopes that would help. It didn't.
Some things I've tried:
Latest T805 MM ROM from https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ficial-firmware-selection-sm-t700-sm-t2960225 - "Re-Partition operation failed."
Bootloaders:
T805XXU1CPI3 and T805XXU1CPJ1 using Odin 3.1.23 and Odin 1.85 - Both hang on "Get PIT for mapping..." and eventually fail.
Modem:
T805XXU1CPH6 - same as above
Has anyone out there had any luck with upgrading a Canadian T805W to MM? Any help at all would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
The T805W requires a specific firmware for your region. Download the correct firmware for your device.
Well, since there's never been a MM release in this region, I guess I'm screwed.
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated!

Maybe not.
Do you have root?
Luckily for you Samsung did not upgrade the bootloader, so the Lollipop bootloader is compatible with Marshmallow.
To update you should be able to flash the firmware with FLASHFIRE. Flashfire won't flash the bootloader, but you should be able to update the rest of the firmware.
I would also maybe suggest not updating the modem either for compatibility sake.
Download a suitable stock MM firmware and flash with FLASHFIRE.
What is your actual region and carrier as there are actually several SM-T805W firmwares available?
Yes, rooted and has the latest TWRP installed.
That's fantastic news about the bootloader compatibility!
Region is Canada and the original carrier is Rogers. It's sim unlocked, but I'm not using LTE with my current provider.
Thanks so much for your help!

If yes download the U1 firmware from SamFirm. You have to use patched odin to go from U to U1.
