Answering Machine app - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hi
I'm looking for an answering machine app. Which can pick call itself and play a recorded greeting, maybe give the caller different options (press 1, 2 or 3) and record his voice message on my phone (internal memory/ SD Card).

that thing only existed on Symbian devices long ago. Been searching this for years. Its not there in android. Blame google i guess.

Yeah. It was quite handy. A similar app would be great keeping in view the number of useless calls I get during work.

But where is the problem if you have in android settings: "pick up calls automatically"?
Just program that can start playing message then and record call maybe?

IT'S A BIG SHAME THAT ALL THIS TECHNOLOGY AND THERE IS NO ANSWERING MACHINE APP. TECHNOLOGY OF 90's NOT AVAILABLE.
JUST INCREASING BLOATWARE, SPYING ON PHONE ACTIVITIES, REMOVING HEADPHONE JACK, REMOVING LED NOTIFICATION, NO APP AND APP DATA BACKUP IN BUILT IN PHONE (CITING SECURITY AND PRIVACY. WE ALL KNOW WHO TAKES THE DATA). ALL IMPORTANT FEATURES TO MAKE LIFE EASIER GONE. JUST RUNNING AFTER VIRTUAL INSANITY.
WE SHOULD ASK WHERE ARE WE HEADED.
HOPING A FEW COURAGEOUS DEVELOPERS WORKING FOR SOME COMPANY OR NOT WILL RAISE THESE ISSUES.

Is there No Voice Dialing on the Desire?

Anyone know how to voice dial on the desire, doesn't seem to be any button combination that allows voice dialing ?
Surely they have not missed this out ?
If they have missed it out any good apps like MSVC but on the android platform ?
Thanks
This is a good find! On the G1 you hold the call button, but I don't know how it works with no dedicated call button.
How about this?

$4, not bad if you really like it.
There is free version though:

Did see this but does not work on the desire. The first link is close but it appears there is no way to voice dial with a bluetooth headset. Really dont know why this has been missed out of any release as it a well used feature.
Thanks for the info anyway, i am sure eventually it will be included, maybe in another rom update.
Does it work if you press and hold the on-screen send key in the dialer app?
This thread on Android forums suggests the function was available on earlier HTC phones:

No that doesn't do anything. I've just tried the free version of ChoiceDialer and so far it seems very good. I am in a very quiet environment so I want to test it out in noisier areas before I decide whether to get the paid version.
Damn! That's disappointing! It's one of those features I never even bother to look for. These days I assume all phones would have this function.
Good to see there is an app that can do voicedialing. WOuld be interedted in hearing your thoughts after a couple of days use.
Get "Choice Dialer" from the Market. Great program, IMO.
Paid for the full version of Choice Dialler. Love it! I can say 'Play music from ..' and name one of my playlists or albums and it starts playing it. For me so far it worksabout 70 to 80% of the time and I don't have to use a US accent even though the developer confirmed to me it is designed for US voice recognition.
One bug for me though and that is I have to disable the ability to find individual song tracks. It says I have too many but at the moment I have only installed 367! The developer is trying to find the problem but it would be helpful to know if anyone else with the paid version has a similar problem. (Searching for music isn't available on the free version.)
if you have the desire you can go to the voice search app and say "dial so and so _________ insert name" that should work for the voice dial it is already preinstalled so you don't need to pay anything hope this helps you guys
New voice search does it. You have to select us accent in the settings tho. Hold search button, then say call name mobile/home. Done. Works with my eastern European accent LOL

But there is no way to do ir over BT
Just posting my general frustration with this.
Just got a HTC desire. My ancient Ericsson would do this and not a so called smart phone. Voice dial via Bluetooth is essential for in car calls.

I couldn't agree more. This is a high end device and this feature ought to be included and be 100% reliable. What were they thinking? Apple made the same mistake with the first iPhone, you'd think Google would have learnt from it. It's a pathetic omission.

shame it doesnt work over bluetooth - just seems to call the last person called instead
When I use the voice search, all it does is bring up a google web browser. How can I change it to call people or play music?
still missing voicedial over bluetooth as I had on my old SonyEricsson with me creating database of sound for names
is there an app with such a funcionality?

Anyone experience with Google Voice Apps?

I'm looking into buying a Google Voice App. Did a few searches, but the reviews are mostly outdated and some of the cons are undoubtedly fixed.
Wondering if anyone recently done the same search and what conclusion you came to?

If you mean the program that records calls, I had an issue one time on my HD7. I used the app on an Android and it recorded a call and kept showing the icon on the lockscreen of my HD7 when I started using it. What it did was mix up the voice message origin between the Google app and the built-in app. I could never get the icon to go away until I made a new voice message to my HD7 using the built-in app. Then I was able to delete the message and make the icon disappear.
I stopped using Google Voice because of that.
I've been using GoVoice, and its worked pretty good so far. Its a far cry from the official Google Voice app I had on android, so I'm hoping socket support comes soon, and hoping Google will make an official app like they did with the iPhone.
I come from using a Nexus One so the switch has been painful to say the least. I do like GoVoice somewhat. Hate the fact that you have to sign up for a third party service to get push notifications. Otherwise it's an ok app.
My pick is FreeTalk. I was using GoVoice before, but I found that FreeTalk offers a more user friendly interface. I like the fact that when I start up FreeTalk, you can immediately choose to either look at your messages or immediately swipe to the phone keypad hub screen to make a call. This is especially useful to me, as I make a lot of international calls through Google Voice. Lastly, for those who might need this feature, there is a non-English translation option that will translate your SMS and text voicemails to another language. I am not sure if this is built-in into the Android version, and I don't think I saw it in GoVoice either.

Crazy lag in long text conversations

Hey everyone, I`ve noticed a terrible flaw in WP7 and maybe I`ve overlooked a way to overcome it.
The problem is that sms conversations that have become really long, create a huge lag in terms of scrolling, typing and pressing the send button. In Android and iPhone, they have that option where you can 'click to view previous messages' but in WP7, it seems to display all the messages no matter what which is probably what creates the huge lag.
Anyway to fix this?

How many messages do you mean by saying "really long"?
The conversation with my girlfriend has a few hundred messages since I bought the Omnia7 but I cannot see any kind of lag.

Hmm..I'd say somewhere around 2000 texts? It's really bothering me... I feel like I'm texting on my iphone 3g lol.
Ill probably record a video to show what I'm experiencing in a few days after my exams.

I had the same problem too. The only way to fix it is to delete the conversation.

Darn, I was hoping it was just me and that i could fix it.
I really don't want to delete the conversation... guess I'll just have to live with it. I'm surprised they didn't implement the show more button like android/iPhone does it.
You should be deleting conversations that start to creep up into the 1k range.. I remember on android if i reached 1k in a thread; I wasn't able to delete it, it was so large that the os would choke..
So moral of the story, dont keep long threads..
Really??? You need that many texts???

Any phone would do that. Blackberries do it, Androids do it, and iPhones do it as well. It's time to set a reasonable threshold for cached texts. It lags for the same reason the XDA Forum list lags a lot of browsers...
Microsoft really needs to add Text Backup to the Devices Site, like MyPhone had...
Dunno why you'd want 2k text cached, though (everyone says in case they need to look up information from an earlier text, lol...).

This.
Sure, some of those texts may well include important information but, and be honest, would you ever be able to find that one message out of 2000 when you actually needed it?
I'll admit, I don't text much these days as most everyone I used to text now owns a smartphone - I tend to email or IM. If I email all messages are stored in the cloud (Exchange, Hotmail, GMail etc etc) and easily searchable (I do wish WP7's email client would include server-search though) and if I get a piece of very important information thru IM I'll copy it into OneNote - which, again, lives in the cloud and is fully searchable.
Honestly, if there is any vital information within a text you need to "look back upon to read" then you're seriously handling your information in a horrible, horrible manner. I would think most people would use e-mail for this type of thing, or store it better. Once texts in any OS reach a certain point, it takes a disgustingly long amount of time to look back at any level due to he sheer amount of texts... I delete messages once a month.
This is honestly a no win situation for Microsoft... If they put a load more button, then people complain the way they did back in the Sense days where they wanted it loaded entirely. I like the load feature, it allows to uninterrupted view for a reasonable amount of texts...
If you're a psychopath who decides to store 5 billion texts, you can't blame anybody but yourself, and you honestly aren't normal.

I promise somebody would find a problem with this... Like I said, I honestly don't mind because I don't keep thousands of texts, and I send a healthy amount a month... But I don't let them collect for a year like some users...
As far as the lag, I haven't seen it, I'm guessing because I keep it at a reasonable amount...

Its not vital to me, but sometimes you want to keep the texts from someone special, or someone who isn't around anymore. I would delete them, but I do not like deleting anything knowing that I'll NEVER get it back if I wanted. With the iPhone, I backed up the SMS database file iTunes backed up and then deleted the texts from the phone. That's all I needed.

Man.....Verizon can kiss my A** with all this bloatware

I can't wait to get root. NFL Mobile constantly popping up. EVERY SINGLE TIME I GET A CALL THAT CALLER ID THING COMES UP. Verizon Messenger, etc. WTF. This is ridiculous.
Go to Settings, Application Manager, All and uninstall what you can and if you can't do that, disable.
What is more worrying is all the features they removed.
Aye man be glad you don't have a Galaxy phone lmao, especially S5 & under, those things are filled with bloat from bottom to top and without root are the legit true phone nightmare. S6 improved a bit but not as much as it could've been. Satisfied with my G4 so far, just got it today and not too much bloat, I can live with it.
You can disable most of that stuff right from the application manager section of settings, and you will not see it anymore.
If you want to go hardcore use the debloater tool. I've hidden every app I normal remove with root including concierge.
The G4's bloat is insignificant compared to the Sammy phones man!

That annoying caller id can be semi-taken care of. If you are using an app and a call comes in, you can have it only pop up a much smaller icon that lets you know of an incoming call instead of that humongous annoying full screen caller id. From the home screen, tap the dialer icon. You have to be on 'Dial' or 'Recent', just hit the 3 dots in the top right and select Call settings. Down towards the bottom there is an option "Incoming voice call pop-up" that is unchecked by default. This will give a much smaller pop up that you can use just like the full screen. And if you don't want to see it when a call comes in, you can just swipe it up and the call will eventually go to voice mail. Or you can just hit decline and continue using the app that you were.
Hope this helps some :good:

Did anyone else get the update (today) for Verizons "supports and protection" app. My concern is the "protection" part...it appears to be an antivirus. Fine, with every other scenario, with our possible future exploit...I turned it off/disabled it for piece of mind.

I have disabled protection as well; along with few others. (verizon navigation and visual voice mail)
Huh, I guess I was being dense. Every phone I've had before the disable option was turned off for all the bloat from the get go so you couldn't disable. I just disabled a metric ton of crap on my phone. MUCH better already! Thanks XDA!!!!!!
Yea I use Nova Launcher and drag and drop unwanted Apps to the desktop "App Info", where it goes directly to the option to either Uninstall or Disable. I weeded through all of the App Drawer apps, then dive into the actual Application Manager where I Disabled several there too.
I DO love the Visual VM app, so that is the one thing I like to keep.
For some reason I liked there messaging app better than the LG one.

One (free) alternative to the Visual Voicemail app is Google Voice. You can configure your phone send unanswered calls to your Google voicemail instead of Verizon's. This will automatically transcribe the emails for you. It can be a bit hit or miss, but it's better than nothing! It also lets you play your voicemails individually without having to call in and listen to them all.
www.google.com/voice
DT Ignite
Be sure to disable DT Ignite (uninstall not available). It is used by the cell companies to push apps to your phone without your consent. I was wondering why Cookie Crushers and another app showed up two days after I activated my G4. A Google search turned up an article showing that this app is what does it. At least I was able to uninstall the added bloatware that was installed via DT Ignite.

Yea I used Google Voice and it was nice. It worked enough for me to get a jist of the message but it would be really funny sometimes. I REALLY like Verizon's Visual Voicemail. It is just easy. I like being able to delete multiple messages at once and pick and choose.
@OP, coming from the G2 the Bloatware is about the same. This should be no surprise. I had a Verizon G2 that had official lollipop. I think the apps were exactly the same. I use the same method I used on the G4. I use Nova to drag apps and uninstall what I can and Disable the rest.
There is an actual Debloater Tool, but you have to be careful with it as it lists EVERYTHING. I find it much easier to do it my way. No PC. No Drivers. No risk of removing an important app.

While I do agree verizon should do anything the phone, the extra software they added on isn't 'too' bad once you think of it. I looked at my disabled menu and its about less than 10 apps? It is not as awful as it was on my G2. with a bit of time you can tweek the phone to your liking. Maybe it is Stockholm syndrome but I'm starting to like LG's layout as they have progressed over the past 2 years..I am looking forward to custom roms though
I do not understand why verizon would want anyone to use their messaging app.. all it does is cause confusion and cause people who are unaware they can change default messaging apps to switch to an iphone or something else. I do not understand why they think this is a good thing. the simple stupid solution is always better!
still a bit ticked off that they removed smart settings from our phones (multi user etc). I could honestly live without, but the fact they did it for their personal gain (which actually hurts them) makes zero sense to me.
kinda wished verizon added wireless charging, like the g2... OH well, its a simple enough fix.

Bixby ... is worthless for handsfree use

Does anyone HATE Bixby as much as I do ? I really wish someone from Samsung would read this. I hate it when Microsoft uses the public to beta test software, but Samsung has gone WAY TOO FAR! If the software is not ready, don't implement it yet!
I've been a Note user since my Note 2. I've ALWAYS relied on S-Voice to do two major things for me. I know a lot of people didn't like it, but it's been very helpful for me. One is creating an appointment while I'm driving. The other is calling customers while I'm driving. I assume you see the 'driving' portion of my need. I need and want it to work TOTALLY HANDS FREE! I use a Motorola bluetooth on my ear during my waking hours. I use it to call Bixby. I WILL NEVER hold that stupid button to talk to my phone. Very stupid idea Samsung! I will never have Samsung, Google, Amazon, or anyone else listen to me talking (or singing horribly) all of the time waiting for that magic phrase. Never happening! Sorry. my wife listens too closely as it is. I don't need the cloud to listen to me too! I ***** and gripe a lot!
On my old Note 4, and through the different versions of S-Voice (none of them publicly released for that device ... only installed via ROOT), there have been problems, but its worked almost 95% of the time. Now that I paid $1000 for the new flagship phone, I'm finding myself unable to do the same things I've been doing on my Note 2, Note 3, and Note 4 devices for the past five plus years. Since obviously I've had it more than 14 days, I can't return it.
Bixby DOES NOT work handsfree. Neither does Google Assistant either. But S-Voice actually did! Saying commands to Bixby like these produce very odd results. They worked perfectly with S-Voice.
"Create an appointment Joe Smith at 8am tomorrow morning" ... with Bixby, it will be named something like "APPOINTMENT JOE", but most likely it will be set to 8 o'clock TODAY and not TOMORROW! Sometimes it doesn't even pick up the time and it's set for 12 Noon! It also DOES NOT repeat your request, like S-Voice did. I have no idea while I'm driving if it got anything correct. So far, I've LOST a half dozen appointments because I don't know where, when, or even if they were saved. They disappeared after confirming for it to be saved. If it does get saved, it's almost always incorrect and I have to manually edit it.
Now I've tried the way they recommend making an appointment, by saying to open calendar ... blah blah ... but that doesn't work either. It stops to ask "what would you like to name this event?" ... well, you reply and it stops. So much for handsfree. I have to reach for my phone to complete creating an event, something so basic is beyond Samsung's Bixby.
This one really gets me riled up! When I say "Call Teresa Adams", sometimes it will pick up the contact correctly, but a majority of the time it won't. It thinks I said "Theresa" instead of "Teresa". The same thing happens with a lot of other names, like "Bird" instead of "Byrd", "Smith" instead of "Smyth". Or "Jon" instead of "John". It cannot find the contact to call ... meaning it's not longer handsfree. I have to pick up my phone to make a phone call while driving. In some states, it's illegal to even HOLD your phone while driving! These are only a few of the issues I've seen with Bixby. But the inconsistency of pulling names from your contacts is HIGHLY FRUSTRATING!
Another one that burns me up ... this happens for totally unknown reasons. I'll ask Bixby to do something, and the reply I get is just totally off the wall. It will come up and tell me I have to install UBER to do that. WHAT THE HELL? I don't need UBER for ANYTHING!
I had to rename my wife's contact. I guess have too many names with 'Teresa' along with a last name, It NEVER called the right one. It would find five other names (and not all were Theresa or Teresa). So I've rename her contact to 'THE WIFE', and yet ... a few weeks ago, I asked Bixby to call 'THE WIFE' and it dialed my neighbor 'Peewee' instead. He got a great chuckle out of the fact that my Note 8 thinks he's my wife. I find it disturbing it can't even do the VERY BASICS. If Bixby was my true personal assistant on the job. they would be fired instantly and shown the door.
What have I done to remedy this issue for myself? You're not going to believe it, but I still carry my Note 4 (with Verizon service) and use it to do the stuff my new and expensive Note 8 cannot handle. I use my Note 8 as my business phone, but Bixby is useless for me. I don't want my so called assistant to pull up photos I took last week based upon some request. That stuff I should do with it in my hands.
NOTE TO DEVELOPERS OF ALL ASSISTANT APPS:
1. Must be able to function COMPLETELY HANDS FREE using bluetooth.
2. Must be able to respond with audible prompts and continue the process after an answer has been given.
3. Must verify and read back the information received correctly BEFORE saving the event (or calling the number selected)
4. Must be able to save a calendar appointment/event WITHOUT asking which app to use to save it. (this is a Google Assistant issue more than Bixby). As far as I can tell ... ALL CALENDAR APPS access the SAME CALENDARS! Duh! Why ask? Bixby wants to save to the Samsung calendar, but that can be changed and it will remember which calendar to save the requested event (and future requests). It should ask which calendar to save it to ONLY once, and use that as a default.
5. If you're going to release a REPLACEMENT software program, at least make sure it's CAPABLE of doing what the previous version could do first.
I've ranted long enough ... but haven't said all there is. I find it sad that I have to carry around my 4 year old device to do something so basic that my new expensive device cannot do without being coddled into doing my bidding. I refuse to switch to another device. If I wasn't locked in, I'd go back to using the Note 4 and never give Samsung my money again.
Whew ... I feel a little better, but I know I'm only blowing off steam. No one who reads this will be able to change anything. So I'm stuck carrying around two devices for now to do the basic stuff I've been doing for the past five years. Feels like we're moving backwards, doesn't it?
