How to backup your IMEI incase of losing it? - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

I know how important the IMEI is, and trying to restore it can be a real pain.
So, I think it'd be a good idea to back it up just in case if (god forbid) something happens, as we all make mistakes, IMEI was lost, we could easily restore it like a twrp backup.
Thanks for your help.

T889V EFS backup

Hi there, as I screwed up my IMEI and Baseband, I am now looking for an EFS backup from someone else. With some luck I might be able to get my phone working again.
The reason I'm looking for EFS folder backup is that no matter what I try, I could not get it fix by any methods including trying to inject IMEI through NV programs because it always fail to connect my phone even when my phone is in Diagnostic Mode, not even NsPro in my phone shop either can fix it either.
So if there anyone willing to send his/her EFS folder backup and let me try, you will be my savior, and I'll be in your debt forever
Of course if you are able to pull the IMEI info out of it first that will be saver to you, but I guarantee you I will try to inject back my own IMEI before I insert my SIM into the phone.
Thanks a ton!

[Q] Formatted Phone and lost all my Nanodroid Backups

I had an issue with my phone, that caused me to returned the phone back to stock, relying that i had all my Nanodroid backups.
What do you know the Nanodroids were saved on the phone And my phone data was gone no backups were saved the main thing
i am really missing is the sms backup and restore files pls help.
Is there any way to recover them.
PS. when you were able to mount like mass storage device it was easier to recover now the recovery software's won't even find it.

Maybe this will help.
Yup I can say if u have any chance of getting your stuff back it'll be with the method linked above. I've used it several times and depending on the circumstances theres a significant chance of recovery

[Q] Encryption and Nandroid Backup/Restore

Hey guys,
If I encrypt my M8, then do a full Nandroid backup to the SDcard, can this backup be restored to any device or is it device-specific?
Also, am I right in assuming that a backup of an encrypted handset can even be restored? If so, how is unencryption performed after the restore?
Just want to clarify as I'm unsure of 'best practice' when making a full backup.
I'd prefer to make encrypted backups and then store the SDcard safely, but if an encrypted backup is in fact device-specific, it almost seems counterproductive.
Anyone?
Just want to know an encrypted phone can be backed up and then restored before actually encrypting my M8!
I don't think you can make a backup if you encrypt your phone. Or even flash any files from recovery. The data will be encrypted and CWM can't access them AFAIK..at least not the HTC encryption.
And backups are not tied to the device as such.
You could make a nand backup with a tool that makes backups while you're booted into Android. Such as Online Nandroid Backup.
Thank you :good:
As mentioned in the initial post I'm using Nandroid Online Backup, so I kind of assumed that as the phone is effectively 'decrypted' whilst I'm booted into the Android, the Nandroid backup would be fully restorable.
But even if that is indeed the case, would the actual backup on the SDCard itself be encrypted data .. or unencrypted due to the decryption which is performed once booted into Android?
My ideal scenario is to have an encrypted M8 + an encrypted SDCard backup. But I assume there would be no way to restore an encrypted SDCard backup .. other than to the original handset/Device ID on which it was first created.
Unless I'm missing something?

The backup would be unencrypted if you save it to the SD card. Unless you encrypt the SD card also, which is done separately. Not sure how that would work out though..never tried it You might wanna check the support for the Online Nandroid tool for that info.
As for the restoring backup to devices, since the backup is unencrypted and it's not tied to any device, it would be possible to restore it to other phones or just simply unpack it.
Thanks WarCow :good:
I guess the safest thing is to encrypt, reboot/decrypt, then backup and then bury my SDCard somewhere safe!

Except that decryption will require factory resetting your phone It's such a hassle. Also keep in mind that encryption will slow the phone down a bit compared to being unencrypted.

Yes, I have noticed the difference: my personal phone is unencrypted and my work phone is encrypted. Both are M8s and there is a noticeable bootup lag. Performance wise, the difference is minimal and therefore tolerable.
But sadly I don't have a choice with the work phone.
Really just wanted to make sure that any encrypted device can be backup and subsequently restored. Now I'm confident it can, I have no trouble with resetting.
I can upgrade AndroidHD from 10.1 to 10.2 while I'm at it! :victory:

TWRP Restore

So I went to restore a previous ROM and the phone when I go to login is asking for my PIN (as usual). My previous PIN however isn't working. What do I need to do in the future before I make a backup so this doesn't happen again? Thanks.
EDIT: My guess is the data partition being encrypted is causing a problem...it's not a big deal if I don't recover this one but for the future so I know what went wrong?
You'd probably have to format storage in TWRP. Then flash a rom that supports having no encryption
I'm not sure if formatting the restoring a backup with encryption will work, though.

(EFS corrupted) No IMEI and no Backup

Hey, my esf partitions seems to be broken after i flashed unofficial Ressurection Remix and later did a restore of my Oxygen OS 3.2.6 backup, now i do not have an IMEI number anymore. I tried clean flashing stock Oxygen OS in many versions but it never worked. I now switched back to Ressurection Remix and my Mac adress is restored, but still no IMEI. I only found solutions for the Oneplus One but i am not sure wich one would work for the OP3..
I really hope someone can help me, otherwise i learned an expensive lesson.
Looked around and not seen anyone who has managed to get their IMEI back on their OP3, maybe worth contacting OP support to see what they can do for you.
Have you tried the Chamelephon app to restore the IMEI?

this is why i said search the forums @Huthi
Not sure why you just made another thread when the problem hasn't changed
I did this remote desktop session with an OP support member but he didnt get it to work and told me i should send in my device.
The Chamelephone app throws out an error "processor type is not MediaTek" and when i proceed it doesnt seem to work, any suggestions?
I searched all forums for over 8 hours now and i am very desperate, i dont find a solution working for me.. I made a second thread because i think the first one wasnt specific enough and it can be deleted
I really hope someone knows a brilliant solution, because i am not able to find one anymore, nothing left to google about in my opinion
Btw when i flash Ressurection Remix i have an mac adress, with OOS not, so may this means my efs partition isnt messed up completely?

you said you wiped all partitions except internal storage, so you also wiped the EFS partition, so i doubt there's a way to recover it without restoring a backup.
really can't think of a way to restore it without sending it into OP
You have learned a potentially expensive lesson BEFORE doing anything always backup EFS without fail.
Yea i guess i did
i thought nandroid backsup everything needed to restore a device 100 %
in twrp wipe the esf partition is not shown under advanced wipe so i thought it wont be wiped
the support said the only way may be a hardware exchange, lets bet on how much it will cost, 200€? naw man

if you really did wipe your EFS and really don't have a backup, then there's literally no solution but paying up for a HW exchange, man
i dont think i did wipe it because twrp does not seem to have this option right?
yea i hope it does not cost too much

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but im pretty sure that the fact that TWRP lets you backup your EFS partition to begin with means it also lets you wipe and restore it.

okay, but why doesnt it work after i restored a backup with working esf.. doesnt make sense to me, maybe my recovery is outdated but i dont think so.. no matter what i pay the bill and learned my lesson, if ever one guy reads this thread in a few weeks with the same issue: pay the bill and learn your lesson, backups are important and check twice if your esf is backed up, you will need it sooner than you think
EFS backup!! I need to do it now!! Sorry for the loss OP. Hope you get it fixed.

I don't own this phone yet(have nexus 6p) but I am buying this soon....usually when this happens to me....I reboot to recovery, wipe cache and reboot and all fixed....or flash back to stock and all fixed
Have you tried reflashing the radio/modem?.. That works on Samsungs so might be the go for you.

Getting confused here, did you actually backup the efs partition or not?
What partitions did you tick when you did the TWRP backup?
If you did do a EFS backup are the file sizes for both efs1 and efs2 around 2mb in size?

No i did not back them up the android sdk way, i only backed up my phone with twrp and i backed up all partitions shown to me except cache (efs was never listed in twrp) and so i restored my whole backup, wich seems like not including efs
No i did not try reflashing modem/radio but i surely do it before sending it in today

What version of twrp did you use? In the latest official version there is an option to back up efs

I recall that TWRP 3.0.2-1 had some problems with restoring efs and there was a warning posted on portal some weeks back. You should be regular on portal bro.

Edit: I see you're not the op, but still it is potentially dangerous for you too, to use that recovery's efs backing/restoring if you go ahead to help this guy.
