TWRP for Sony XZ2c instead of Lineage Recovery? - Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact Questions & Answers

Hi everyone
After some research, I can't find a succeful way to install TWRP recovery instead of Lineage stock recovery.
It's really embarasing because I'm currently setting up my brand new XZ2c compact to run the way I want it to on Lineage OS 17.1 with Magisk and Xposed modules, and I experienced 3 or 4 endless bootloop that led me to fully format my phone after bunch of hours setting it and tailoring it up... Huge waste of time, frustration overload, as you could expect. So, I really miss tremendous TWRP backup fonctionnality I used to run frequently on my old Z5c... :crying:
Does anyone here as figured out how to replace Lineage stock recovery on this device? Is so, I'd really to hear him out

Have you seen this- https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-android-10-stock-sodp-xz2-c-p-3-twrp-unofficial.4074403/ ? I haven't tried it on Lineage, but might work...

Hi levone1 & thanks for answering,
I've tried this one, but I get adb\fastboot.exe: unknown option -- disable-verity

Hi guys!
Today I tried again to install TWRP on my Sonyh Xperia XZ2C because LineageOS Recovery doesn't provide Nandroid backup, which is a shame.
I tried many ways described over the web, none of those worked, and I ended up with a boot loop at startup with that naughty message "your device is corrupted it cannot be trusted and will not boot". I can't boot to Lineage, neither to recovery. I'm stuck.
With device turned off, I can eventually press volume down, plug it to computer, access fastboot mode (blue led), flash+boot the LineageOSrecovery.img, then the device restart, Sony logo appears... and that's all, I'm stuck with logo in boot loop, and I can't go anywhere further.
I tried to change boot slot (without knowing if it could help with this problem at all) but I alway get "unknown option".
I'm panicking right now, I can't find any way out to this bootloop, if someone could help it will be sooo appreciated!
I tried hard to find a solution for 4 hours now, I'm completly stuck and I can't even sleep. That's why I finally reached out here.

Did you ever find a solution @tomboudiboudi ?

[Help][D850] Trouble Encrypting with TWRP

I just installed the bump'd TWRP and CM12 on my G3. I'm trying to encrypt it, since I need it that way for my work email/calendar, but I'm running into a problem with it.
I charge the phone fully and plug it in as required, then go to Settings/Security/Encrypt Phone. I enter my PIN and start the process, but all it does is flash the green android on a black background with what looks like a gear in the middle of it, then goes straight to the Cyanogen boot splash screen, where it sticks until I pull the battery to restart it.
Has anyone else had this problem? Or, does anyone have an idea of what I might be able to try?

I am having the same problem. Unfortunately, I have not gotten any answer. Sorry I couldn't help, but at least we're not alone.
same here, have had same issue with multiple dailies. do you think this is with twrp or cm12?
I've managed, with the latest CM12.1, to encrypt my LG G3 (d855)....However...TWRP cannot decrypt the partitions so you cannot flash anymore updates until TWRP is updated....

How did you do it? I've tried to encrypt with 27/08/2015 nightly and I couldn't. It said encryption failed and I had to wipe it.
I'm using the 26/08 (UK date format) build - This is the one that broke Chrome. I just encrypted the phone using the settings. I've been trying every couple of weeks for sometime. In the past I get the CM logo and nothing happens. If I remove the battery then the phone boots OK...so clearly the encryption hadn't started. This time I left it and walked away. 30 mins later I went back to the phone and it was prompting for the encryption password after boot....So all good for me....except TWRP cannot decrypt the encrypted partitions...
I am using the D855 model.
I'm having similar issues. I was able to encrypt after installing the Resurrection Remix v5.5.5 but now TWRP shows internal storage as 0mb and throws out a bunch of mount errors. So can't backup or load anything new through TWRP now.
The only way I was able to change ROMs was to flash the stock ROM through the LG flashtool, thereby unrooting the phone and then starting the whole process from scratch. It's a big pain because everytime I do that I need to get admin approval to setup my work email and then need to encrypt again , which locks me into the existing ROM again!
Ughh!! Can't wait for a solution top this problem.

ADB unable to find my Find7 - but Fastboot works

New to XDA, so hopefully this is in the right place!
My problem
I tried to install a new ROM and it's gone badly wrong. First, I couldn't get the recovery bootloader to launch or to re-install. Then suddenly ADB wasn't working any more, and I was unable to boot up into the system.
Now I get boot loops with the Oppo logo. If I hold down volume up + power, I have access to Fastboot. I can use my Mac to send commands with Fastboot, but I cannot get ADB to find my device. Typing Fastboot getvar all gives me 'All: ' in response, which is not a good sign.
Attempted solutions
I've tried installing TWP and CWM, but both of them just end up booting to a black screen. At one point I tried to flash stock Oppo recovery and got a black and white flickering recovery screen for my trouble, which was unresponsive..so I wiped it and started over. I suspect it was not the correct recovery file, as I really struggle to find what are definitely the correct files now the OppoStyle Forums where I used to download recovery files no longer seem to be active.
After two days of reading various threads and trying solutions, I am really out of ideas now. So any help would be greatly appreciated!
Before embarking on this journey I cleared my phone of anything important, made sure it was rooted and enabled USB debugging. I also wipe everything from Fastboot whenever attempting any fresh flashes.
More context
I've had problems with my Find7 ever since I tried to unify my storage a couple of years back. In the end, I got unified storage to work but on a very old version of ColorOS. I had a lot of problems getting to that point, so from then I decided to just live with the outdated OS. But finally, the frustration of apps not being compatible got to me a few days ago and so I decided to try and install a new ROM. That's when my recent troubles began! I think legacy issues from my initial problems years ago may have contributed to the mess my phone is in now.
So what next?
Ideally, I'd love to get my Find7 completely wiped clean and a modern, stable ROM with unified storage working on it. But at this point, I'd settle for original ColorOS with non-unified storage again if I had to!
Hoping someone here has some suggestions I can try! Can't get worse surely

Cannot root my S9

Hi everyone,
this is crazy. I followed different guides on how to root my phone but I get the idea I really have to wait for 7 days to have another chance at rooting, or is this just a myth?
I installed twrp, flashed resurrection remix. I had problems with my camera when trying to record video. I always got green flickering on screen. also not able to record more than 60fps (why? isn't s9 supposed to?).
But what struck me most was the fact that my phone wasn't rooted. When installing supersu in the recovery I get the message "sepolicy failed" or something. I guess this is why I cannot root my phone? Installing superuser from the playstore shows me also that I am indeed not rooted.
What can I do? I am all out of ideas and websites...
Should I reflash stock and do the OEM and odin procedure again, and wait 7 days?

Try use magisk 16.6 for root issues, ofc when you use custom rom you dont get full camera potential and these green flickers are just minor cosmic bugs.
"Myth" might want to read up more.
You need to flash twrp and flash the no verity file then flash the custom rom
Or even better, flash soldiers rom instead of the resurrection remix. Didnt you read that theres a camera problem?
Better use magisk for rooting btw, use the 16.6
Now I am in a never ending boot sequence loading resurrection remix. I can only hard reset and enter twrp.
I don't know if the installation or magisk did it, because I cannot boot to the system.
anyideas?

try flash rom + gapps and boot system after that boot recovery and flash magisk 16.6 and boot system
Thanks for the advice. I flashed back to stock firmware to have the zerocam mod working perfectly. But now my lockscreen freezes after a few minutes. So I tried to deactivate my phone going into lockscreen. I get the Black screen of Death now instead when the display turns off into sleep mode. Only way out is rebootingby hard reset, power button+volume down.
What can I do?.... Thanks for Any further advice.

You don't install a recovery, but only temporally boot one

Thanks for your (minimalist) advice. Literally just lost 1 hour fixing the bootloop it just caused by following it, I'm delighted.
Behind my post, I was hoping to find someone who could explain a bit more the process of replacing/flashing/booting/(wateveryouwanti'mnotanexpert) a recovery, and at the same time avoiding me wasting more hours in bootlooping/formating/reinstalling. Hopefully, this time I succeed to came out of the bootloop without formating and reseting eveything, but I almost lost my nerves.
All of this is a bit cloudy for me, could you (or someone else that would give me a little of his time to) be pedagogue and explain clearly the whole proccess (and especially what you should avoid if you don't want to get stuck in a bootloop/getting scarying corrupted device message) ?

In fastboot mode you should be able to flash stock rom
Is there any way to make the device boot on the Lineage partition without wiping everything?
For an unknown reason, I succed to boot on Lineage Recovery (not TWRP) this morning. I flashed LineageOs rom.zip using adb sideload. After rebooting, the recovery tolds me that I had to wipe everything because the system partition seems to be corrupted, so I did.
I'm a bit tired to lost everything since I made all of this to do Nandroid backups with TWRP........ but I have a fresh new install, my phone works again so it's fine.
But I still need to make Nandroid backups.
Kurtn, you seem to have skills and knowledge. As you can see, I didn't succeed to boot Twrp since october 2020. I don't see why it would be impossible with my device, I'm probably messing something somewhere.
Would you share your knowledge and help me booting/flashing TWRP without bricking everything again?
Could you make an answer instead of a single smiley?

Btw.
Code:
fastboot flash boot recovery.img
DOES install the recovery, since it's permanently flashed. Don't know why they (lineage) didn't change that.

However @tomboudiboudi , you could boot twrp manually using
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
With that, twrp should appear and ask for a password to decrypt your userdata partition.
If that works, you could try to flash boot this very same twrp.img. Maybe you need an additional twrp.zip too which will be sideloaded within twrp itself.
A note for you which might help: I wanted to update my lineage recovery manually using fastboot (older lineage recovery to newer one) and found that nothing (except fastboot) was booting at all after flashing this.
However, after dirty flashing lineageOS.zip, everything worked fine again.
Keep in mind that flashing a recovery will modify your boot.img. If this one doesn't work / is corrupt etc., your os won't boot up.

I fear you still haven't realized, what a/b means. The classic concept of having a recovery partition, where you can boot twrp at any time - doesn't apply.

You're right, there is no recovery partition.

NERVOUS about flashing Lineage 18 :-(

HI,
I am not new to flashing phones and tablets, but I am a bit confused about the new partition format.
I have a nokia 6.1.
I want to flash the official lineage 18 ROM on it.
I downloaded the latest version , and also the latest lineage recovery.
I followed the install instructions on the website . I believe, exactly.
But after I have executed this command '' fastboot flash boot xxxxx.img"" to temporarily boot recovery, the phone stays in download mode and does nothing.
I then thought maybe I need to reboot?, and power down, because the next thing on the lineage install instructions is to start the phone having powered down.
Anyways, when it boots up, it hangs and stays on the android one screen.
Power/Volume up does nothing.
Whats worse is, it is no longer recognised in ADB.
I was really worried. I let the battery die overnight, and then tried to get some response, but no - still stuck.
Finally, after more fiddling, I got it into download mode, and was able to flash stock using OST.
I tried again - same thing, and once again luckily managed after an hour or so to get it into download mode.
So I have reflashed stock, and wondering if somebody a lot brighter than me can give some advice??
Currently on stock android 10, but would much prefer lineage 18 , as I have no need for google services.
Can only think something is going wrong with whichever partition I am temporarily booting to recovery?
Many Thanks ( with a relieved sigh for escaping a brick )

Something similar happened to me, it turns out that from android 10 stock you have to first:
fastboot flash recovery xxxx.img
you will get an error in the cmd, that's good, now
fasboot boot xxxx.img
.
this was mentioned a long time ago but was never mentioned more in other threads
if you get stuck you can use ost la. also remember the slot A B when you flash the rom
