Can I downgrade to One UI 2.5 from 3.0? - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Hello guys I'm a s20+ user model SM G985F. I used to use nova launcher and good luck module task changer with one ui 2.5.
However after upgrading to one ui 3.0 good luck doesn't work any more. Nova launcher is pretty much usable as well as the recent apps menu is too much buggy working with 3rd party launchers.
I find the default Samsung home launcher just unbearable and horrible to look at. So I want to downgrade back to One UI 2.5, as good lock won't be supported on One UI 3 until February 2021.
Is it possible to flash one ui 2.5 rom via after upgrading to one ui 3.0? Any advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Hi there. Yes you can go back to firmware with OneUI2.5 default but you will have to factory reset the device. Also make sure the firmware you are flashing via Odin has the same boot loader version you are currently on or you will not be able to downgrade. I am not a S20 user but the process should be the same as on my Note 10+.
Going down in firmware versions always factory wipes the device and is also not possible if the older firmware is not on the same boot-loader version. Hope this help you.

Hi thanks so much for the response. I don't mind if my device gets factory reset. I'm currently on the Indian firmware One ui 3.0. If I flash the same Indian firmware one ui 2.5 then everything should be fine right?

Yes it should. Except for the factory wipe. Make sure of the boot loader.....

Hi there,
- Goodluck is working fine for me on Ui 3 (no root), what feature is not working for you ?
- I'm interested to know if you downgrade successfuly yet because I tried everything too, but I failed to go back to BTJ3 from CTKF (and I would be happy to return to ui2.5 just because I destroyed a Samsung Cloud backup by mistake ... and I have a TWRP backup there)

Heard other saying Good Lock wasn't working after going to 3.0; might be a regional or variant related issue.
This won't help this time but for the future get a large, fast sd card to use as a data drive. A Lexar V30 500gb card can be had for about $75.
Keep all essential data there rather than internal memory. This how I set up all my PCs and now the 10+. Make use of this and the added redundancy it can bring to your phone.
I have a copy of all my apps and updates loaded there too (Apk Export). The card data is then also backed up to the PC.
Keep the downloads folder on the internal memory until files are deemed safe; an extra layer of malware insulation. This has saved me once already from an infected jpeg.
Backup settings of apps that permit it.
I can do a full reload with little or no internet and be running again in about 2 hours with all my files, music, photos, etc loaded and ready to go.
Make full use of your SD card slot...
I'm holding a fast 1 tb dual drive PC in my hand, outstanding.

Hi there, i rollback from OneUi 3.0 to 2.5 with no problems, you just have to make sure that the binary and the bootloader are the same and you are ready to go

were you guys able to downgrade successfully?

Guys follow the below guide
1. switch off your phone
2. connect USB cable to the PC
3. Press and hold volume up and volume down keys at the same time
4. Connect USB cable to your phone
5. it will take you to the download mode screen
Then you can downgrade it to the version you like. The downgrade build should be on bootloader v5

Go to https://samfw.com/ and find your device. Look for your firmware version, and note the "Bit" collumn. Find an earlier ROM you'd like to flash, ensuring that the "Bit" is the same for both.

If the factory load version is 2.5 you can easily do it. Otherwise I think it's firmware reflash time...

Downgrading 6.0.1 to 5.1.1

Hi if anyone can help- I'm on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 after 2 Note 7's and a Note 3 before that on Biggin's so I've sorta been out of the root game. I want to downgrade from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1. I am downloading the full firmware for the Note 4 from further back in this thread (N910VVRU2CPA1) and am currently on (N910VVRU2CPG2).
From what I understand, I need to do a factory reset, then go to Odin and flash the firmware. I have Odin 3.10.7 and am downloading the N910VVRU2CPA1 as we speak. I see 'hsbadr' firmwares in his thread and the PIT file TRLTE_USA_VZW.pit which I'm not sure is compatable pit file for the specific 5.1.1 firmware or the necessary pit file is included in the full firmware and can anyone tell me if these are the right steps?are these the right steps Any information would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks

I'm in the same boat...Coming from a n7. Bought a n4 on eBay...It's got 601. Want to root...Guess we need to downgrade....Is it possible?

Before you can start rooting, you'll need to be on 5.1.1 BPA1. If you're currently on 6.0.1, just download the BPA1 firmware from Sammobile, factory reset on 6.0.1, then flash BPA1 stock via Odin.

Hi thanks, I had called Samsung and talked to top tier tech support and was told that once the phone has been upgraded to 6.0.1., it cannot be downgraded. and that i need to search the rooting sites and try to find where someone has found a breach or workaround for unlocking the bootloader which will usually have a bounty but I dont know. top tier tech support has always been good. Do you think thats false it cannot be downgraded?

I am a little confused as to whether I've found the right firmwares but I've found the firmwares here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937
If I am downgrading to 5.1.1. which this phone was obviously on before, I don't know what this phone was on since it currently is on the PL1 build which are not one of the two 6.0.1. builds on this page. I don't even know if that matters.. Anyway, the two 5.1.1. builds are PA1 and OK3. Do you know where any other firmwares out there that might show my current one and the previous build that it came from?
Thanks-

Yeah they're out there but that thread hasn't been updated recently. Basically the order after pf3 is pg2, pj2, and then cpl1. The one you want, if your planning on rooting, is bpa1. Also, as far as your question in the op about the pit file, it should really only be used if absolutely necessary. It's in case your partitions have been corrupted for some reason and you need to repartition your device.
Edit- I was going to link to those other firmwares but they are buried in the thread that your already looking in. Either way they aren't necessary for you to unlock your bootloader, you can go straight from cpl1 to bpa1.

Hey thanks for confirming all this. So all I need to download and install is the bpa1 firmware via Oden with the AP button I think- I've got a few different versions of Oden on my pc. It's been a while since I've flashed firmware on a phone but I remember it was easy. So just save my pictures, any files, etc. on the sd card, remove it, then do a factory reset or when I put the setting into usb download mode, and flash the firmware this will automatically factory reset the phone? Also earlier today Verizon has been trying to push an software upgrade. After I unlock the bootloader and install twrp then flash a rom, do I need to somehow disable the update notice. I remember having to do that once with another phone.
What rom are you on? Thanks again for the Info-

Yeah that all sounds spot on. I would definitely do the factory reset before you start, but other than that your good. To block the updates, you can uninstall the SDM apps. There are 2 of those and you'll need root to remove them, but you can disable them without root with that debloater tool. The rom I'm currently using is kind of work in progress. I have a couple stock based roms in the dev section, one is stock_plus that has a stock feel with some mods added and the other is Modest Rom that is got some grace apps added and system ui mods. You can find them here and here if you want to check them out.

Custom kernels help a lot. The problem is it's kind of slim pickings for our specific model, but some of the international kernels work well too. Oscar kernel is made for the 910v so that's probably the most reliable but if your like me, I like to use a permissive kernel and Ram kernel is not a bad choice for that though it's not as feature rich.

I really dont know the difference... from what I remember a kernel is the layer between the software and the hardware- a key component of the os. I'm guessing the permissive ones can be used for different roms or firmware? You can probably tell I really don't that much about the root game. The last time I flashed a firmware was on my note 3 after I bricked it. Then rerooted and got on to biggins rom which was great ut I never understood or learned how to use xposed. Anyway, I downloaded Modest Rom, PJ2 _STOCK .tar and am downloading cpl1_tar but I know that once I flash bpa1 firmware which puts the phone back on 5.1.1. I see your roms are 6.0.1 roms, after I flash the bpa1, will the bootloader be unlocked? If so can I then just flash the cpla1_tar or is that not a full firmware? or use one of the two 6.0.1 firmwares from where I found the cpa1? Are the kernels different from 6.0.1 and 5.1.1 and where to find the downloads?? I appreciate the tips especially coming from a develpoer and i'm happy to make a donation- I'm not sure how?
Thanks again!

Oh man that sucks- hopefully they gave you some good pain meds. Anyway, I havent taken th plunge yet- once I get on to 5.1.1 then twrp, I want to go on to 6.0.1 but am unsure as to what point the bootloader is unlocked or exactly what to do to upgrade to 6.0.1 once I crack the bl. I just dont want to go through the dreaded set up everything twice.

TWRP+SuperSU, TWRP+Magisk, or Custom ROM?

Last year, I bought my first ever Android - a Galaxy S7 Snapdragon. Unfortunately, I soon learned that without root & Titanium, Android provides no way to do a proper/complete backup (i.e. SmartSync doesn't backup any app data, & Helium backs up some but misses many - WhatsApp, LINE, Viber, etc). Thus I returned the S7, took a brief hiatus, & am now eagerly awaiting the arrival of a brand new Exynos S9
I wanted to ask for any quick advice as to the "suggested" approach for rooting, so I can hit the ground running as soon as this thing arrives. As I understand it, there are 3 main approaches:
1) Install TWRP, stick with the stock Samsung ROM & flash SuperSU
2) Install TWRP, stick with the stock Samsung ROM & flash Magisk
3) Install TWRP, flash a custom ROM that's already rooted
Between 1 & 2, my understanding is that Magisk is preferable to SuperSU as it essentially accomplishes the same thing but without necessarily blocking OTA updates or some financial applications from working. True? So is there even any reason to consider #1? If not, any insight as to choosing between #2 vs (any specific custom ROMs)?
My long-term priorities are simply for the phone to run as well as possible, with as little maintenance as possible (i.e. as far as ease of getting security updates goes). I'm not really into lots of customization, experimenting, etc - I'd prefer to just get something up & running, stable, & stick with it. I will be using T-Mobile though, so I guess in either case I'll need to install this to get WiFi calling & VoLTE working. Also, I want to make sure that whichever root solution I choose, it can coexist with Secure Startup (the S7 Snapdragon's root couldn't, which was a dealbreaker for me).
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. The phone arrives Tuesday, I can't wait to get started!
As soon as you flash twrp your not going to get OTA updates nevermind root.

even, i tried to use ODIN Nand Erase All and installing new fresh official rom and also, have the same problem
is there any recommendations, please?

when you say combined roms do you mean the factory binary firmwares? because if flashing the combination firmware/factory binary followed by the usual rigmarole factory reset, nd reflash official fw doesnt work you could try rebuilding the partition using adb shell (root access needed for this though)

Was able to flash my S7 from Verizon to unlocked with this.
Flashing with HOME_CSC will wipe your phone, only do this if you want a clean install.
The non-home CSC should leave all the user files untouched.
I've uploaded this because updato was miserably slow,
just don't want others to jump through as many hoops as I did to get it.
Good luck and thanks for stopping by! :fingers-crossed:

Make sure to flash with Odin3 v3.13.1.
I'd tried 3.12.x and had no luck. :silly:
Was able to flash my S7 from Verizon to unlocked with this.
Flashing with HOME_CSC will wipe your phone, only do this if you want a clean install.

Should work just fine
Nice work...
Installed this with all tools in thread. Appears to take the image, updates Android to 32% then shows "Erasing". Reboots, says something about rebooting for Sim Updates, does this for a few mins. Then updates Android apps and boom, new stock phone no provider junk on it. Very nice. If I find any issues after the phone setup, I will post update, but if nothing, appears this is now a Stock unlocked phone.
Phone - SM-930P Sprint
Had most recent April Update
No longer on sprint, it's on GoogleFi now, but was unlocked by provider
Is this rootable or did I just take my Marshmellow S7 and destroy it's rootability??? FML why oh why didn't I ask this before doing it...
Hi i have one s7..i want to change to a new rom.whi h rom is better for gaming??(oreo, nougat, marshmalow ,kitkat).ty

I'd say oreo, the newer the better for the sake of actually being able to obtain the apks from the google play store.
I was able to run most games just fine with this rom. :good:
Is this specifically for TMobile users? It's just that i noticed it was TMB-$(version_info).
I guess my question is, does it matter if i use this on a Straight Talk phone, or should i suck it up and spend a day downloading the VMU rom from SAMMOBILE?
More specificity, if it matters. Previously i upgraded from stock Straight Talk rom that came with the phone to VMU, with the SM-G930U firmware. I'm looking to upgrade from Nougat to Oreo now though.
Currently my phone is running VMU-G930UUES4CRG3-20180809155130

probably a dumb noob question, but do i have to request a carrier unlock on a 930A before i do this? it is currently carrier locked.
also, after doing whatever is required, will it get OTA unlocked updates?
EDIT: i went ahead and got my s7 unlocked with the ATT code. on trying to flash i got an SHA256 error. after some google i checked the bootloader is "8". is this why? update checker says i'm up to date with Dec 3 2018 security updates...
I'm sorry but is these Snapdragon S7 variants likely to have a Android 9 Rom in the future?
I know it's idiotic btw hope some responses would be left.

This is the first time I've done this and other guides seems to say the opposite. Can someone confirm which I should use if I don't want to do a clean install?
Thanks
Will WiFi calling still work after installing this on a T-Mobile S7? Thank You.

downgrade 8.0 to 6.0 a520

hi, I'd like to know if there were any way I could revert back to marshmallow without bricking the device. I was thinking about rooting my phone, download the stock a520 6.0 rom zip file and flash it with the recovery menu. First I don't wanna brick it, second I'm not sure I can find some flashable zip file.
I did this with my old Motorola moto g 3 and never had any problems.
do you guys think it'll work and so where I could find those files? also if there's any other safe way to do it share it please!
Thanks in advance!

I don't think it will work because Samsung has anti rollback in its phones which prevents the bootloader from being downgraded. However, a system and boot flash might work. I don't know about the modem though.
Samsung is one of the few brands that implement it.
I don't really see the use though as it is quite possible to bootloop and if done incorrectly, could result in a hard brick.

Quick question...
Why would you want to?
I did this with my old Moto X Play and bricked it

that is what I thought... I think the only real solution would be to find a custom Rom of the Stock 6.0 but untouched. It would not need the bootloader to be downgraded would it?
I really like samsung phones but I hate the way the treat costumers, it feels like being fooled.
Thank you for your reply though !

When I bought my Moto g 2015 it was very fast and that was surprising. All the updates started to drain the battery and make the device work slower . I tried almost all the custom Rom possible and after flashing back the stock 5.1 out of the box version I have to admit they wanted the device to become slow with all the updates.
Now when I received my A5 it was already running nougat. I think the best you can get from your phone is with the outbox version because everything is planned to be running perfectly so people buy it. For me even though it brings new features and stuff, update wont get you device any better.
So ya that's the reason I'd like to downgrade.

You could extract the system and boot out of the stock firmware, but I don't know if it's worth the risk.

Motorola got in trouble for that. Others too. It's illegal now, so you should leave out that theory.
I've had only positive experiences with my last 5 smartphones. Upgrading does precisely that...makes it better. An OEM would not produce an upgrade without testing it. That's why we had a better experience with Nougat and even better with Oreo.
What do you do differently with Oreo than you did with Nougat?

Help downgrading S20

Hello,
I tried to downgrade from G981U1UEU1DUB7 to G981U1UEU1CTKJ (both Android 11).
After odin it failed to get pass bootloader. It gave me the option of factory reset. I didn't want to lose my settings.
Flashing back to DUB7 revived the phone. I really want to get back to CTKJ because Samsung disabled third party fast chargers.
Any idea guys?

Back everything up and wipe data/factory reset when it boots to stock recovery and it'll boot..if not you're stuck i suppose
Were you ever able to downgrade from DUB7? I'm currently on DUB7 on my S20 and want to downgrade to a firmware with UI 3.0 so I can root my phone.
