Booting recovery damages the OS - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After I flash a TWRP custom recovery to my Sony Z1C, I am still able to power up android. However if I then boot up recovery, I can no longer boot into the Android OS. Its as if booting from recovery damages something that the OS needs.
I feel I might be misunderstanding something or missing a step. E.g. do I need a specific recovery image to match the Android ROM version? Or do I need to root the phone first?
My steps...
Unlocked the bootloader (from fastboot using the Sony method)
Boot into fastboot mode and run: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Reboot the phone - Android launches ok
Power down phone and repeat rebooting - Android still boots ok.
Boot into recovery - this works ok.
Power down phone.
Attempt to boot the Android OS - get the "Sony Xperia" splash screen and then a black screen (with the backlight on).
At this point, I am still able to boot into recovery, but not the OS.
To restore things, I use the Sony flash tool to re-flash the stock ROM (android 5.1.1) and then re-try, flashing a different recovery.
I've tried twrp-3.4.0-1-amami.img, twrp-3.3.1-0-amami.img, twrp-3.2.3-1-amami.img
Thanks.

After trying a few recoveries, I found twrp-3.2.3 by mse1969 worked.

[Q] Xperia Pro flashing

So, finally I have managed to unlock my bootloader in ADB with the sony's method, I did this because I want to try out the ultima rom with kernel.
So I have never flashed a kernel, I only used wotan client and flashtool. I don't know how to start.
I have everything (latest android sdk, proper drivers, battery full, root, clockworkmod, kernel.img) only the knowledge how to do it SAFE, and the most important how do I flash it back to the original ramdisk and kernel?
PS.: I have an Xperia Pro MK16I,
Is there no guide in the rom thread?
Typed down from the sky with sexy LT15i
Try this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508585
Dude, the same Ultima ROM thread has the instructions.
It's always the same.
Flash Kernel via Fastboot> Flash ROM via CWM> Full wipe.
You'll have to get the fastboot files from somewhere to flash the kernel.
Once flashed the Kernel, to flash the ROM the most common command to bring up CWM is pressing Vol - several times.
After that, you just flash the zip from Ultima.
That's it.
Unable to enter recovery mode
I am unable to enter the recovery mode by pressing the volume - key. How can i enter the recovery mode ? i am stuck on the sony logo.
I was flashing a ROM on locked bootloader and already had clockworkmod recovery. Now i can not access it

Impossible to access to the bootloader

hi!
I've a sony xperia z1 compact with cyanogen mod custom rom.
Version of CyanogenMod: 12.1-20160619-NIGHTLY-amami
Android Version: 5.1.1
Installed Recovery: Cyanogenmod Recovery
I have problems with this rom so I would install a new one, but to do that I need to install the TWRP recovery. To install TWRP on Z1 Compact i've downloaded TWRP from http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/twrp-3-0-1-amami-t3350827 and i've followed the instruction from this link: http://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-twrp/
But when I try to reboot my phone in bootloader mode I get a black screen with blue led and nothing else.
I want to install a Dirty Unicorns or Resurrection Remix roms but all of this rom require a TWRP recovery and not CyanogenMod Recovery.
There is something that I can do to fix this thing??
p.s. Sorry for my bad english
Blue led means you are in bootloader, you must connect device to pc and use fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery *and drag img with recovery to command prompt *" next "fastboot reboot" when led is orange (?) press vol- and you are in twrp 3.0

You can also flash TWRP IMG with Rashr app from Play Store, then boot into recovery.
I had the same thing:

Xperia M, stuck into TWRP.

I just unlocked the bootloader with the code from Sony Website. When i boot, it showed the waves from a normal booting, but it doesn't start. I waited like 20-30 minutes and nothing. Then i flashed TWRP using Flashtool as an Kernel. Now, when i boot, it brings me to TWRP and if i reboot system the same thing. I don't have an backup, because i thought that after unlocking, it will boot up normal.
Flash Stock Rom through Flashtool (you need an older Release). Boot your Phone.
Then Boot into fastboot (shutdown the device and Connect it to your pc with vol- pressed, Blue led Turns on) and Flash the Boot.img from your Rom .zip. then Reboot into Recovery and Flash the Rom. Then let it Boot, activate root Access, install twrp Manager from Play Store and install twrp through that.
Twrp is a recovery Image (in our case, an Image for an unused Partition called fota) and Not a Kernel.

Cannot boot to TWRP or any image on Xperia Z1 Compact

Hi all,
I have been trying to flash a custom ROM on my Z1C, but I can't even get to any recovery screen. My power button does not work so I can't use the Power + Volume combo to get to recovery. I can get into both Fastboot and Flashmode. I have tried multiple different versions of TWRP but when I try to boot, the phone gets stuck on either the Sony logo, or on a blank screen. I have tried using both fastboot boot twrp.img, and flashing the image, both with the same results. From Flashmode, I can restore the original firmware with Emma and the device works perfectly. Any advice on how I can boot into recovery?
Thanks in advance
You can download an app from the playstore where you can boot into recovery. Or use developer settings and advanced reboot.

Semi-bricked XA1, possible recovery?

So my phone has been lagging a whole lot using the stock rom and I have decided that I'll try a custom rom to see if that changes anything. So I came here and saw this forum:
I thought I'll try and so I unlocked my bootloader, only to have my phone be reset (not a problem, everything was backed up). It also boots with a warning "Device unlocked and can't be trusted".
Then I went on to download TWRP using this link in that post: "https://mega.nz/#!FQFXCYSY!DgxQRkaY1Eqq3B0fZLEQBNzUs0Zj80L6IzSHxdorQ3A" which is the TWRP 3.3.0.0 V2 IS FOR ALL USERS.
I didn't want to flash in the event it was the wrong recovery so I tried booting into it, fastboot boot recovery.img
It flashed, everything was ok and now the phone doesn't boot. It stayed in a boot loop. I went ahead and flashed recovery this time, no luck. Downloaded a recovery.img from another website and it didn't allow me to boot to android or recovery.
Is there a way to save my phone, I can't get another phone until August due to contract. It can still boot to fastboot and gets stuck when trying to boot to android. It being able to boot to fastboot makes me think theres a chance to flash a stock rom or any custom recovery and rom to get the phone working again. Any help? Thanks!

OK use the boot.img and recovery.img made by @janjan HERE. Under the heading ¨Downloads¨ see ¨Xperia XA1¨ and download the KERNEL + RECOVERY the boot.img and recovery.img are compatible with the G3121-G3112-G3125-G3116-G3123 devices on the applicable firmware.
Flash BOTH using fastboot. The boot.img is patched to allow TWRP to boot which it will never do using the stock boot.
If you wish to go back to stock then simply use FlashTool to flash the stock fotakernel.sin and boot.sin contained in the firmware for your device.
Does it works becouse I boot my g3116 from flashtool camand was
Fastboot boot boot.img and then also it's stuck into bootloader
