My razr 5g become hot after 5 to 10 mins used. - Motorola Razr 5G Questions & Answers

Anyone has same problem? It like that from open box. I just wonder is it normal or I should bring it to warranty.

Could be hardware, firmware or more likely settings and/or apps.
I return it but you can play with it and try to track it down in the meantime.
Carrier, even factory phones can behave like this so there's no guarantee the next one doesn't do the same thing.
Does this happen in safe mode too?
If not it's likely a 3rd party app maybe bloatware that's responsible.

It is still hot in safe mode. Both wifi only or 5g mode. Seem like hardware problem as no one else face this issue.

Clear system cache.
Try a hard reboot.
Do a network reset.
Try turning off wifi... try to narrow down which apk(s) are responsible.
Clear caches and data as needed.
Many times it's a settings or app issue... if the new one does the same thing you'll be irritated.
However something must be done as it's toasting the battery.
It can be quite frustrating.

It definitely heats up to above 43 degrees Celsius by any intense CPU actions, I'm not sure if it is the battery or the CPU, but the lower half heats up even by updating a few apps, in normal use such as browsing I don't really face any heating issues.

It's the device using excessive current not the battery. The high current drain causes the battery to become warmer which is normal but far from desirable.

See if it has its recent updates.
Try turning off all app power management if present.
With Q you have less available tools to track it down, even Pie is bad in this respect.
Thanks Google...
It took me months to straighten out my Note 10+
What a joke; all the 10+'s were like this.
So do what it takes... I feel your pain.
I just throw it back at them at this point.
Maybe you'll get lucky on the 2nd one.

Thank you for your help. It us 2 year warranty and haven't use as main phone yet. So I will try around or wait for update. Don't want to go to wait a week for replacement.
And if it is software issue, maybe will be more people have it. It should be a big issue because hot device may damage fold screen.

I mean current updates. If not working right, right now, it may not ever.
You bought a phone not a bloody hand warmer...

Have sometime to play with it today. Seem like problem with Chrome. Watching youtube about 30 mins but still cool. Become hot while browsing web by Chrome. Try to use another browser then fine. Will see if it happens again.

Here's how it looks with a thermal camera

Is your EVO soft resetting automatically or on its own?

Mine just started to after lunch today. I've had it on the desk and saw it restart about 3 times in less than a 15 minute window.
How do I know this just started and it hasn't been going on in my pocket? Well over the weekend I would have heard it reset (since it's not on silent/vibrate like it is at work). It also significantly drains the battery more if you are constantly soft resetting it/turning it off and on.
So is anyone else having this issue? I need to figure out if it was just a freak occurrence or if something is wrong with it.
I did NOT root it, running everything stock - I did some updates on some apps I have installed but no new programs installed in a couple of days - again this just started happening today in the last couple of hours.
And besides email and messaging, I'm not running anything in the background like Pandora or eBuddy, so I don't think it's a program causing it to reset.
Edit:
Not sure if this is the best category for the thread, but I could not find any threads similar to this besides the battery issue in general. Apologies if this thread already exists somewhere.
No uncalled for restarts here. Open the back, pull the battery, check the contacts? Is it plugged in when it does this? Try padding the battery with a folded piece of paper between the door and battery to ensure a snug fit. If it still does that, time to go to a store.
@Jye75
Thanks, I have pulled out and looked at the battery. I have that Seido case they were slangin' at Best Buy on it, I don't think there's an issue with the contacts.
One weird thing is during one of the automatic restarts, the phone made the start up sound. I had the phone on vibrate and the start up before that (and after when I manually restarted it) did not have a tone. Very odd... perhaps it's possessed.
Odd indeed... drop by a Sprint store, would be my next move.
It happened to me two times today since I did the full root last night. The last time it happened, I clicked on a input field and it restarted...
I had the issue when I turned off "enable always on mobile data"...turning it back on stopped the resets.

Probably just a kernel panic. I would not worry about it too much. It's happened to me on my Hero, and on my Evo.
For comparison purposes, how often does OS X Kernel Panic? How often does Windows BSOD?
Android is rather new technology in comparison. Yes, it runs Linux, which is rather mature at this point, but it's built with a lot of new technology, which may not be as mature as the stock kernel itself.
/two cents.

It reset about 8-10 times in less than 2 hours. More than half of that time the phone was in my pocket and not in use. I hardly got a signal inside of Walmart so it's not like I was using it that much in there.
I have set the data to be always on and hopefully this will help...
I appreciate all the help guys!

I had the same exact thing happen to me beginning this past weekend. It was driving me insane since it was rebooting every 30 minutes or so. I noticed it started happening more so when I did not have good signal. In any case I came to the conclusion it was all the tinkering (root part 1 and custom ROM) I've done with the phone so I wiped it last night and started from scratch (root part 1 and 2 and custom ROM). No reboots yet, but seeing your post concerns me since it's not the first post I've read regarding this issue. I'll keep you posted if mine keeps doing it. I really hope it's not a real issue, getting a replacement does not seem like it will be an easy process at the moment with them constantly selling out.

Thanks for the input. Your concern about the difficulty in getting a replaced unit due to them selling out is EXACTLY why I'm trying to figure out if this is a software glitch.
I'm also glad you pointed out that it tended to happen when the signal was ****ty. Last night I enabled the data always on (it was on by default and I turned it off earlier in the weekend) and I haven't had a reset yet this morning. Of course I've also been in good coverage areas. When it kept resetting like mad last night it was inside of Wal-Mart, and they have some serious shielding on their building or something since I rarely get a full or even half signal in there regardless of carrier or phone in past experience. A lot of friends on Altell/Verizon beg to differ with me though.
I'm thinking if they're connected, the fact that a weak data signal contributes to the device rebooting is really odd; the only time I can think of why a phone should reboot on its own is the OS crashes (or some app takes up ALL the available RAM, freezing it, then crashing it) or it overheats (but would seem to turn off rather than reboot). I had a BB Curve that did this at one point so I had to clear the cache all the time.
Edit:
Actually, I realized when it started to happen it was at work where I have excellent reception. Hmmm... well at least it hasn't reset on its own this morning so far (so far meaning 30 minutes).

Well for what it's worth, mine was also doing it in good signal areas as well. It just seemed a lot more pronounced when I was getting bad signal. Anywho I reread your original post that you are running stock software so let's see if it keeps occuring for both of us regardless of the differences in software we are running. I also still have "Enable data always on" off.

Sounds like a plan. Still no problems so far with data always on.
FWIW I also did the battery trick by switching the phone to CDMA auto from GSM auto. Supposedly you have to do it everytime you boot your phone, and it's supposed to help with battery life. Thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700601
It has to have something to do with turning off always on mobile data. It goes away when it's on, but then comes back when you turn it off. I just did rooted and unlocked nand protection on my phone last night and turned off always on mobile data and haven't had any reboots yet. Then again, it took a little while for it to start resetting last time so we'll see I guess. Could just be some glitch in the software that putting a new rom on has fixed...

I had this happen to me while I was trying to talk on the phone and use google navigation at the same time while running the Overclocking widget to throttle my cpu to 285mhz when the screen was off. Whenever I turned off the screen my phone would reboot.
My guess is that there some issue there where the cpu cant keep up with the heavy usage, locks up and forces a reboot...
I've since gotten rid of the OC widget, rooted my phone and installed a custom rom. I've not had it happen since, of course I havent tried talking and using google nav yet.
I've also noticed that advanced task killer caused the htc sense launcher to reboot (force killed) every once in a while... I've gotten rid of that too...
happend to me while talking on the phone twice, it was weird i could hear him still talking the entire time it was rebooting, up untill the OS actually launched...Im gunna try and kill set cpu, how many other people have this running while its rebooting???

This happened to me today, in-call. My phone has reset 6 times since then off-call.
Alright un-installed setcpu and it still resets. I'm now trying to shim my battery to see if its a loose connection. I gotta figure this out its driving me crazy...
UPDATE: still hapining with battery shined, tried both data sync on and off, installed setcpu, all to no avail... maybe I will try a hard reset... I remember on my kaiser this started hapinin and it was a bad nand flash, but I'm running stock with unrevoked... so if anyone has any ideas I'm wide open.

Wow dude I'm sorry to hear you're having that much trouble. I'm on step 2 of part 2 of Toast's root method but running into major issues. Since I did step 1 (and before that I enabled data always on again) I haven't had a reset issue.
For the record, my Hardware version 2.
Do you guys think this is a widespread or isolated issue? I'm surprised it hasn't happened more or less, in other words I figured there would be either a lot or hardly any comments about it. This medium sized number is interesting.

Nexus 7 sudden reboots.

Hello,
I just bought this Nexus 7 and it is simply stunning. However, I have been having issues with it rebooting suddenly especially after trying to wake it up. I don't know what is happening and I cannot seem to get adb in Windows 8 to recognize it (even with updated Google USB drivers, USB debugging on, and mode set to PTP). I can't get a logcat.
If anyone can help me figure out what is going on, I would much appreciate it. Especially if I can get adb to work.
Google tech support would tell you to do a factory reset. Maybe twice.
If that doesn't work, return it.
Even if it cures it for a while, it may return.
That would be the sign of a possible hardware issue.
Google doesn't acknowledge or address the rebooting issues.
And Windows 8 has been a nightmare for some so far as drivers.
Google the Nexus 7/Win8 drivers issue, and you'll find a ton of possible solutions and no consistency so as to have one concrete answer.

Just did that. I didn't want to reset it because of the time needed, but I don't have much of other options.
So far so good. If it continues to reboot, it isn't a big deal. I'm eyeing the 32 GB version anyway to swap for as 16 GB is a bit cramped.
Don't beat your head against a wall. Keep returning until you get a 'good' one.
I can't imagine the number of refurbished units that'll be offered for sale as soon as the real issue(s) get(s) found and addressed (if ever).
Whatever happens, don't get stuck as a lot of us did....

As soon as I had posted that previous post, it had just rebooted after being put into sleep mode. Went back to Staples, got me the 32 GB one, and we shall see if this one works better. Hopefully it is just a hardware issue (I'm thinking the S4 Pro may have had a hard time with the low voltage on sleep mode) If not, I'm going to troubleshoot; maybe an app is causing the crash, maybe the firmware is creating issues, or both.
I'm keeping everything packaged for right now with the exception of the tablet itself. I've got a charger which works fine with it. Gotta love the two week return policies.

Curious, it looks like Chrome Beta may be at issue. I use it because I like being on the edge. I'll install Chrome Beta, see if the issue returns. If it does, I'm uninstalling it for right now (or just not launching it).
Try removing chrome

I can confirm that chrome beta was 100% the cause of the reboots on mine. Gone a week without a single reboot after uninstalling, and I had about half a dozen a day when it was installed.

In my case, I've got Chrome rolled back to original and disabled and still have issues, admittedly the rebooting happens while asleep for the most part so that isn't nearly as intrusive as the frequent freezing.

Phone is now starting to exhibit glitches/problems

So I've had my XL2 for almost a month - original was RMA'd due to poor quality display at the beginning of the month. Anyways, everything has been great up to about the last 3-4 days. In that time I've noticed the following:
1. Phone would not stay on LTE. Only HSPA+ despite 3 other people(who were with me) with the same carrier all having LTE service all day. I restarted my phone 2 times. Toggled airplane mode several time. It only grabbed LTE for a few minutes then reverted back to HSPA+ when I would turn off cellular.
2. Android Auto. My vehicle detects the phone, in-car application launches, but either there is no sound from any song or when I hit play, song is automatically paused everytime. I have to unplug/plug phone for it to all start working. This doesn't happen everytime, but it's done this about a half dozen or so times now.
3. Last but by the far the most annoying and worst. Randomly, when I'm interacting with the Google keyboard or Swiftkey, the phone just starts to spaz out. Random apps open, incorrect text being entered(for example, I type "m" and instead "z" and 3 commas get entered in instead, and just total loss of control on the phone(can't keep anything open or incorrect actions happen).
So I'm the point where either I go for a factory reset(I hate doing this) or I contact support and see about getting an RMA.
FYI: I'm on the November update.
Went through 2 really blue displays to get what I thought was a keeper yesterday, my 3rd device. But now today I noticed the screen flashes bright white when going into always on display. Quality control must be non existent between Google & LG.
It's just unbelievable to me that a $1000 device is so poorly made or passed off as ready to be sold. I've been sticking up for Google during most of the screen blue shift fiasco, but after this last string of incidents, I'm losing faith completely. This is especially apparent when I see that my wife's iPhone X has had nothing to this magnitude.
I've been having major, major problems with SwiftKey myself, to the point where I no longer even want to use this phone until the situation is resolved.
Everything was fine, even on the beta, and then suddenly about a week or so ago - as you mention - SwiftKey just starts going nuts. Incorrect predictions, mistaken input, slow/lag, etc.
I wonder if it's something with the November Security Patch Update or SwiftKey's cloud network or what.

Seeing as you have to start from scratch anyway, I'd try a factory reset first. You can always RMA it if the problem persists. Why risk losing your "good" Pixel 2 XL for one that may have a crummy screen restarting the RMA cycle?
Also, was Swiftkey recently updated, like in the last 4 days or so?

The RMA is a little better than the previous one in terms of how extreme the shift is, but overall it's not anything worth keeping. The bottom firing speaker buzzes like you wouldn't believe at 60% or higher volume. I don't recall the original one doing this although I did read in another thread that pretty much every phone is doing this.
If the replacement is worse, I'll send it back. It's not like it's a hassle for me. It's pretty much the same doing a factory reset.

Help, extreme draining

Hi, i bought one moto z play, almost 2 months ago, and the battery was excellent, you can see on airplane mode, idle, not using it, the phone lates more than 17 days, and had 23% of juice left, after that, i boight another one, both are used, but this one, only last 2 days on the same conditions, airplane mode, even safe mode, not using at all, just 2 days, drains like 2% per hour without even touching it at all, what can i do?
What does it matter what happens when you never use it? And why buy a second phone if you already have one that lasts great?
Just sell the second and start using it like normal people. Nobody can tell you why that difference is and it doesn't matter. They have to last under normal conditions, but what you are doing is pretty much waste of battery. Letting it lie around in airplane mode for days is simply stupid. Then you could just turn it off

Seems like a reasonable test of baseline battery drain to me. I get less than 2% drain per hour with all my background stuff on with my MZP. My old S6 (notorious for bad battery) gets like 3% per day in airplane mode with no screen on time.
Just because his use case isn't your use case, doesn't mean what he's doing is stupid.
OP, I'd be inclined to think you have a hardware issue - you've eliminated all the normal software side stuff that typically is responsible for battery drain.

Exactly, it was just a test, obviusly under normal conditions the drain Is Worst, only 3 SoT and 9 hours of battery, if you compare the two phones, one drains 2% and the other 0.1% por hour, that it's not normal.
If is not hw issue, something is draining battery in background. Have you tried factory reset? Compare settings on both phones, wifi/bt scan, SIM is inside on both, sd card?
Anyway, try to make both phones exactly the same from hw and sw perspective. If you haven't already.

Maybe put a CPU monitor app on both phones, let them both run in the same condition for the same time period, and see if the histories match? Not really sure how else to look, since you said safe mode didn't fix it.

the one with the problem has the december patch update, the good one, the november patch, thats the only difference on both. already tried factory reset, wipe cache, safe mode, even on safe mode, the 2% per hour draining persist.

gonna FDR both, charge them to 100% and let them dry for a couple of hours with the cpu monitor.

You can try to upgrade good one to December patch to get the same batter life result
If there's no other difference, then looks like that is hw problem. But I'm still suspecting that you are missing something.

good joke, but im not gonna take that risk; cant think what i would be missing; i think ive tried everything except for a downgrade, but i read somewhere it cannot be done, the phone is on 7.1.1.

Do not downgrade. It is doable but next upgrade (OTA) and you will end up with brick.
I've already asked you, both phones are with/without SIM/sd card?

Well, if both phones are the same from hw and sw perspective (except update on "bad one") then most probably cause is hw or update.
Do not try to downgrade, 8.0 is under SOAK (quite long already, but still has issues) and you may try it when is ready (don't flash leaked SOAK, please).
As said above, most likely is hw issue. Sorry for that.
camera app left running?

Your second pic says it's running. Sorry if I misinterpret.

Nord N10 5g android 11 available for download on TMobile and metro

It's finally happened!
Judging from this, we can load gsi or some approximation
Can someone do a full dump of the Update with MSM read back?
OTA. Just got it myself. Interface is hideous! Color scheme change, not cooperating with Nova Launcher, re-enabled all the junk I disabled. Not a fan! Was just getting happy with my setup to, felt snappy. Anybody else having overheating issues?
Hot mess!
Try dexopt job, Android needs to rebuild dex after every update and will cause bad battery/heat for a day or 2

Interface is pretty trash, but you can get it pretty close to 10.
For the standard OnePlus launcher being an aggressive piece of work. Clear data and cache for the launcher (use an app the freeze it, since you can't outright disable it) reset Nova launcher as your home launcher.
For the overheating, I'd recommend wiping your cache phone wide. (Which is damn near impossible since OnePlus recovery is absolute butt cheeks) so your next best bet is a system format after moving your files.

I'm waiting for the OnePlus updater to carry the regional 11 ota.
Update isn't out for the unlocked variant. At least not for me.

Yeah, it's a regional update sadly.
Four days later and battery life has finally stabilized.
Largest villain when it comes to usage is chrome and chromium, the update just made them even more aggressive.

Dam, I just deleted it... was running out of storage- and was overheating. Between all that plus launcher and signal issues I just did a total cleanup.
Before cleaning out I was getting all the above-mentioned issues: Nova, heat \ batt life....
Plus slow data, dropped signal & calls...
Later today will be the acid test on the road.
Scratch the data part- there was a widespread internet outage yesterday.
Although today, play store continues to be slow as molasses

We experienced that here yesterday as well. Internet/VOIP phones out and all cellphones at my office.
Couple of days fixes heat issues. I think everything back to normal.
"Adaptive battery "
"Optimize app power consumption"
Disturbingly, I found one or both of above disabled "BUT Sleep Standby Optimation" self-enabled- you put down phone for a long time, system thinks you're sleeping and blocks calls, messages and what not.
Enabling the second one has really helped.
My limited knowledge makes me suspect update made system relearn from scratch app \ battery optimizing.

Weird, locally they were saying a fiber line on at&t backbone got cut and caused the outages. Our main ISP is Windstream that uses at&t fiber backbone, our secondary ISP Carolina connect fiber was unaffected though. All cellphones (TMobile, MetroPCS, at&t and Verizon (lte/5g)) did not have any service either. Thought it was a local thing, did not know it was worldwide.
99% of businesses in our town were only accepting cash because of the outages. However most of them stopped accepting cash during the pandemic last year so no one really carries cash like that. ATMs didn't work because of the outages. So it really goes to show how fragile and how quickly our system can go to a grinding halt.

Sleep standby is an absolute mess.
It doesn't prioritize at all, so you've gotta sit there and enable each notification wake.
It doesn't even save enough battery power to be considered worth the inclusion.
One minor and one major change/addition to the system.
If anyone is looking to hide their camera, the option to add a black bar above the notification bar is now in your advanced display options.
A new option in developer options that relates to Bluetooth is the Gabeldorsch stack. All I can say is give it a shot. (Skullcandy refuses to provide codec support, so this is a boon)
