Mine just started to after lunch today. I've had it on the desk and saw it restart about 3 times in less than a 15 minute window.
How do I know this just started and it hasn't been going on in my pocket? Well over the weekend I would have heard it reset (since it's not on silent/vibrate like it is at work). It also significantly drains the battery more if you are constantly soft resetting it/turning it off and on.
So is anyone else having this issue? I need to figure out if it was just a freak occurrence or if something is wrong with it.
I did NOT root it, running everything stock - I did some updates on some apps I have installed but no new programs installed in a couple of days - again this just started happening today in the last couple of hours.
And besides email and messaging, I'm not running anything in the background like Pandora or eBuddy, so I don't think it's a program causing it to reset.
Edit:
Not sure if this is the best category for the thread, but I could not find any threads similar to this besides the battery issue in general. Apologies if this thread already exists somewhere.
No uncalled for restarts here. Open the back, pull the battery, check the contacts? Is it plugged in when it does this? Try padding the battery with a folded piece of paper between the door and battery to ensure a snug fit. If it still does that, time to go to a store.
@Jye75
Thanks, I have pulled out and looked at the battery. I have that Seido case they were slangin' at Best Buy on it, I don't think there's an issue with the contacts.
One weird thing is during one of the automatic restarts, the phone made the start up sound. I had the phone on vibrate and the start up before that (and after when I manually restarted it) did not have a tone. Very odd... perhaps it's possessed.
Odd indeed... drop by a Sprint store, would be my next move.
It happened to me two times today since I did the full root last night. The last time it happened, I clicked on a input field and it restarted...
I had the issue when I turned off "enable always on mobile data"...turning it back on stopped the resets.

Probably just a kernel panic. I would not worry about it too much. It's happened to me on my Hero, and on my Evo.
For comparison purposes, how often does OS X Kernel Panic? How often does Windows BSOD?
Android is rather new technology in comparison. Yes, it runs Linux, which is rather mature at this point, but it's built with a lot of new technology, which may not be as mature as the stock kernel itself.
/two cents.

Thanks, I realized that was one of the few things I've changed at the end of the weekend. Sweet!

It reset about 8-10 times in less than 2 hours. More than half of that time the phone was in my pocket and not in use. I hardly got a signal inside of Walmart so it's not like I was using it that much in there.
I have set the data to be always on and hopefully this will help...
I appreciate all the help guys!

I had the same exact thing happen to me beginning this past weekend. It was driving me insane since it was rebooting every 30 minutes or so. I noticed it started happening more so when I did not have good signal. In any case I came to the conclusion it was all the tinkering (root part 1 and custom ROM) I've done with the phone so I wiped it last night and started from scratch (root part 1 and 2 and custom ROM). No reboots yet, but seeing your post concerns me since it's not the first post I've read regarding this issue. I'll keep you posted if mine keeps doing it. I really hope it's not a real issue, getting a replacement does not seem like it will be an easy process at the moment with them constantly selling out.

Thanks for the input. Your concern about the difficulty in getting a replaced unit due to them selling out is EXACTLY why I'm trying to figure out if this is a software glitch.
I'm also glad you pointed out that it tended to happen when the signal was ****ty. Last night I enabled the data always on (it was on by default and I turned it off earlier in the weekend) and I haven't had a reset yet this morning. Of course I've also been in good coverage areas. When it kept resetting like mad last night it was inside of Wal-Mart, and they have some serious shielding on their building or something since I rarely get a full or even half signal in there regardless of carrier or phone in past experience. A lot of friends on Altell/Verizon beg to differ with me though.
I'm thinking if they're connected, the fact that a weak data signal contributes to the device rebooting is really odd; the only time I can think of why a phone should reboot on its own is the OS crashes (or some app takes up ALL the available RAM, freezing it, then crashing it) or it overheats (but would seem to turn off rather than reboot). I had a BB Curve that did this at one point so I had to clear the cache all the time.
Edit:
Actually, I realized when it started to happen it was at work where I have excellent reception. Hmmm... well at least it hasn't reset on its own this morning so far (so far meaning 30 minutes).

Well for what it's worth, mine was also doing it in good signal areas as well. It just seemed a lot more pronounced when I was getting bad signal. Anywho I reread your original post that you are running stock software so let's see if it keeps occuring for both of us regardless of the differences in software we are running. I also still have "Enable data always on" off.

Sounds like a plan. Still no problems so far with data always on.
FWIW I also did the battery trick by switching the phone to CDMA auto from GSM auto. Supposedly you have to do it everytime you boot your phone, and it's supposed to help with battery life. Thread here:

It has to have something to do with turning off always on mobile data. It goes away when it's on, but then comes back when you turn it off. I just did rooted and unlocked nand protection on my phone last night and turned off always on mobile data and haven't had any reboots yet. Then again, it took a little while for it to start resetting last time so we'll see I guess. Could just be some glitch in the software that putting a new rom on has fixed...

I had this happen to me while I was trying to talk on the phone and use google navigation at the same time while running the Overclocking widget to throttle my cpu to 285mhz when the screen was off. Whenever I turned off the screen my phone would reboot.
My guess is that there some issue there where the cpu cant keep up with the heavy usage, locks up and forces a reboot...
I've since gotten rid of the OC widget, rooted my phone and installed a custom rom. I've not had it happen since, of course I havent tried talking and using google nav yet.
I've also noticed that advanced task killer caused the htc sense launcher to reboot (force killed) every once in a while... I've gotten rid of that too...
happend to me while talking on the phone twice, it was weird i could hear him still talking the entire time it was rebooting, up untill the OS actually launched...Im gunna try and kill set cpu, how many other people have this running while its rebooting???

This happened to me today, in-call. My phone has reset 6 times since then off-call.
Alright un-installed setcpu and it still resets. I'm now trying to shim my battery to see if its a loose connection. I gotta figure this out its driving me crazy...
UPDATE: still hapining with battery shined, tried both data sync on and off, installed setcpu, all to no avail... maybe I will try a hard reset... I remember on my kaiser this started hapinin and it was a bad nand flash, but I'm running stock with unrevoked... so if anyone has any ideas I'm wide open.

Wow dude I'm sorry to hear you're having that much trouble. I'm on step 2 of part 2 of Toast's root method but running into major issues. Since I did step 1 (and before that I enabled data always on again) I haven't had a reset issue.
For the record, my Hardware version 2.
Do you guys think this is a widespread or isolated issue? I'm surprised it hasn't happened more or less, in other words I figured there would be either a lot or hardly any comments about it. This medium sized number is interesting.
Background
This is by no means definitive, so don't everyone go get your panties in a wad and pitch fits like 12 year olds.
So several days ago I noticed that my GNex was starting to have issues with dropping calls and data connections. Basically, I was dropping data and voice despite having a connection to the network about every 2-5 hours, requiring a reboot. This happened over a 3 day period in a stationary position, in radically different places (like 80-150 miles apart). It was happening on 3G and on 4G so I was pretty confident that it wasn't just a localized outage or the local tower acting up. I'm no expert and certainly no /dev, but I've been around some Android devices a time or two.
I'm a big proponent that 95% of problems with an Android device are user error. That doesn't mean you're holding it wrong or that you're stupid, merely that something the user has installed or set is affecting something else, that affected something else. As an example, shortly after getting my GNex I installed TweetDeck. I had used Navigation several times to test GPS (first thing I did being a SGS owner) so I knew it worked and worked well. Anyway, immediately after installing and setting up TweetDeck, my GPS crapped. It would see satellites but not connect... even after 30 minutes....even after rebooting, clearing AGPS data, blah blah. Being objective, I decided to freeze TweetDeck with TB. As soon as I did, GPS returned. As soon as I unfroze it, GPS failed. I uninstalled TweetDeck and reinstalled from the Market, and had no more issues.
Solution (For me at least)
With that event in mind, and a crapped out radio, I went looking through my app drawer for apps that access the radio. I picked out Network Info II 0.6.0, Real Signal 3.5 and Network Signal Info 1.51. I rebooted and waited. Here it is three days later, and I have yet to have a single voice or data drop. If I've had one on the data side, I haven't noticed and it certainly wasn't for long.
I don't know how or why. All I know is that I've never had any form of radio trouble and those apps were recently installed, and that without them, the radio issues are gone. Take it for what it's worth, which probably isn't much. But if you're on 4.0.4, with 4.0.4 radios and you're suffering from radio problems, flip through your app drawer and remove or freeze applications that have the sole purpose of polling data from your radios. Who knows, maybe having 3 was 1 or 2 to many.
Thanks for the write up. And I really think the issue with certain apps interfering with OS-level stuff is a big issue, and one that nobody seems to want to notice.
There are a ton of posts, not only on this forum but on others, where people are saying they have so many issues with the Nexus and this and that. What a lot of people don't realize is that, yes, certain apps that are either poorly coded in general or not coded for ICS can potentially interfere with the normal operations of your phone.
A lot of people tend to use/stick with apps that they are used to, right? I came from the G1, the very first Android phone, so I've been using Android for awhile, and I bet that other people are too. Some apps are a staple of people's usage, meaning as soon as they get a new device, those same apps are the first to be downloaded and installed. However a lot of times those apps are abandoned by their developers, never to be touched again.
So of course an app that was coded on Froyo or even Eclair that calls the GPS or the radio or bluetooth stack or something else hardware related can potentially cause issues, especially with ICS being such a radical change from Gingerbread.
Question for OP. When you lost your data after 5 hours or so, was your 4G or 3G signal still showing as well as the data bars still moving like they are active but technically your data is not connected at all?
Was it apps you added that you froze or system stype apps? How did you see what accesed the radio?

Yes. It was doing the typical thing you read about where people will have gray bars, 4G/3G showing, "Verizon Wireless" on the lock screen but no connection to anything at all.
The applications I froze are all 3rd party market apps. Check out the permissions for Network Info II as an example. My not so scientific hypothesis wonders if too many apps that can read "Network State" and "Phone State" going at once is too many. Again, not really based on anything at all, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that multiple apps or a poorly coded app constantly requesting Network/Phone State could throw radios into a tailspin and cause those radio crashes that we see from logcats.
And as a disclaimer, I'm not knocking those applications or saying that there's anything wrong with them. I make this post primarily to encourage people with the issue to think logically about the apps they have installed and experiment with removing some out of the equation. Going back to what I said eariler, 99% of people that install TweetDeck on their GNex probably don't have GPS issues because of it, ever. I did until uninstalling and reinstalling and haven't had issues since.
I see this as possibly being no different, at least in regards to a 4.0.4 Bootloader, OS and Radio Package.
Food for thought: Apps have not been updated to work 100% with ICS?

Alright, so will that app tell me what is accessing that feature or do I need to go through every app to find out and what exactly shoould t say in the access?
Help me out here please because this is starting to annoy me!
The fastest way to see what apps have what permissions is Menu > Settings > Apps then go through each app and scroll down to permissions. Or you could back up your apps with TB, do a Nandroid then completely wipe the phone and live with it totally untouched (minus your gmail account of course) long enough to see if the problem goes away.
Don't get me wrong, I've never seen an LTE phone that didn't occasionally disconnect for a few seconds. People that say, "OMG my Rezound never did" are either full of it or didn't pay attention. There are plenty of cases of Rezounds, Maxx's and Thunderbolts having brief and random disconnects. But there's a huge difference between that, and losing signal as often as I was and as often as many people here say they do. There's nothing you can do about the former, but hopefully this is something that can be done about the latter. I'm crossing my fingers that it may help and that it's a relatively simple fix because frankly, until I saw it for myself I thought a lot of people were being drama queens. I'm not a whiner, I'm a doer, so I encourage everyone to go do.

There are a TON of apps that haven't been updated. I have a paid app that hasn't been updated that is abandoned and still on the market. Works fantastic except on ICS.
I've thankfully been free of radio issues thus far on my GNex, but I want to thank you for this thread.

Not to jump up on too high of a soapbox, but I couldn't agree with you more.
It's very satisfying to read about people methodically, empirically testing. It's something that seems rare these days.

My signal does not go in and out but randomly after hours it might lose data. By looking at it you would never know because everything looks fine but behind the scenes data is not working.
So what we are looking for in permissions is what you listed in the 1st post and that is what will be listed?
I thought it might have been me running in tablet mode so I just switched back to phone mode. Would like to see if it is actually caused by what you say.

When I froze those apps, I picked them because I knew they had access to:
Network communication > view network state > Allows an application to view the state of all networks. The part in bold is the description of what the permission "View Network State" means. That permission is under the "Network Communication" Category. Some apps will have more than that single permission under Network communication, some with have none at all. "Real Signal" has the fewest permissions out of the three I froze, and maybe all three don't HAVE to be frozen, but I haven't tested that yet.
Another random thought. During that time period, I also had a BUNCH of random reboots.
Maybe on other devices 95% user error might be closer.
But, not on my Gnex! What if you bought a completely new phone and have not installed any apps. The first time you open up the stock browser and use it for 5 mins or so on 4G LTE next to the cell tower -75 db stationary and still lose connection of both data and voice with "the triangle of death" on 2 separate GNex with 2 new SIM cards? Is this a bad batch? To me, "bad batch" is when we say 1/100 is a faulty device but this is almost reversed with GNex. We should exchange devices until we find a "good batch"
All I am saying is we all should be a little more compassionate for people like me. A lot of problems are made by users, sure. But it sure isn't 95%....It's more like samsung/google/vzw 60% in this case..
I hope I shed a little light on all the users that did not create user errors yet still have radio problems and VZW keep telling us to wait because issues are going to be addressed with the supposed firmware update that should have come in Feb, now March. Now...I don't know when.
Thank you for your post though, you rock
With anything, even product reviews, the people that have issues always make up the vocal majority. No one talks about how things work the way they should.
If my phone truly dropped 4G as often as it did when I had this application conflict, I'd be in the Verizon store every day until I either had a replacement or got banished from the store. If Verizon told me that it was "normal" and to live with it, I'd pay a visit to management at a different Verizon store and pay an online visit to the BBB. If that didn't do any good and I was really REALLY bored and had nothing better to do, I'd probably draw up a letter to Verizon's legal department about the liability Verizon could have when a consumer can't call 911 in the middle of the night because the radio crashed.
I still think it's an incompatibility hiccup with ICS more than necessarily an issue with Verizon's LTE network. I see GSM owners complaining too. And, as I said in the OP, I can only speak for a "stock" 4.0.4 bootloader/modem/radio experience. I've seen posts from people talking about how their problems have disappeared since making the move from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4. All I can speak of from my own experiences is that I've never had a problem from any version of ICS other than what I experience.
Come to think of it, I think I'll defrost all three of those apps and see what happens, especially since the phone in my hotel seems to be in working order.
OK, in the couple of hours since I've defrosted my cocktail of apps I've:
Opened the Facebook app, watched it poll for GPS and lock, then closed the Facebook app only to have GPS stuck on. Once I went into Settings > Apps > Location Services and tried to uncheck "GPS satellites" it rebooted. After rebooting, the phone showed 4G and a connection to Google's servers but I couldn't browse or use any app that is web based (like speed test, gmail, etc). After about 30 minutes of trying, I rebooted again and everything was fine. I have a feeling it's related to Real Signal looking at the plethora of stuff it monitors and that it's starting up on boot.
That's all I personally care to see. Needless to say, they're all frozen again.
I don't think there is a problem with real signal, I only installed it after having these problems to start with.
Since I got my nexus it works randomly drop voice and data. People would call me and get a fast busy signal. I tried many different radios and they all behaved the same. I switch my network to CDMA only and haven't dropped data or voice in two days.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
On 4.0.4?
I don't think it's necessarily just Real Signal. I think it's multiple apps polling data from your radios. After a few more days, I'll go through them one by one. So far in my experiences on my setup, there is something up with the combination of those apps.
Again, there's a solid chance that a combination of other apps could give other people similar issues.
I will say this, even if I had problems before installing those apps, this particular cocktail would only make them worse.
It's not ICM
Hi all - First post here, but have been having nightmares with my wifes Nexus - mine is fine and drops NOTHING - EVER.
Hers on the other hand - we are on our 2nd one and I was informed by Verizon today, that it's been 14 days since they replaced it and I"m stuck with it. I rooted her phone and installed 4.04, which fixed the random reboots she was having, and her signal LOOKED stronger, but she is dropping calls like mad and getting kicked off the network randomly.
Anyway, it does not appear to be a ICM thing - I was reading a review on IT World (I'm not allowed to post links till I've posted 8 times? ) - They are describing THE EXACT SAME THING the Galaxy Nexus is having. So there is a switching problem WITH VERIZON. The Maxx isn't ICM and the phone is a totally different manufacturer (Motorola)
I'm smelling class action lawsuit.

Yes, indeed.
I am very surprised to not see one yet!
It means all of us with this issue is actually being very patient at the moment.
Again, for anyone who does not have this issue at all, and curious to find out what issue we all are actually describing here by LTE Connection Drop + Voice Drop is:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24345
Man, why does everyone always pull the "class action lawsuit" line?
Firstly, you're not going to do diddly squat legally about it, so stop kidding yourselves (and us) when you say that you are.
Secondly, no service you pay for is "guaranteed" to have 100 percent uptime. My Comcast internet connection goes out every 3 months or so anywhere from 5 hours to one day. Do you think I have legal grounds to sue them? Nope. When a thunderstorm rolls in and you lose power for 12 hours, can you sue your electric company? Nope. In fact, I'm pretty sure in most ToS contracts or forms that you sign, it states that they do not guarantee you anything.
LTE is a relatively new technology, and Verizon is the first one to offer it. There's going to be hiccups and growing pains. It's been a year and it's A LOT better now than it was back when it started. 4 years ago we were all happy to get something faster than EDGE speeds, and now we get connections capable of 40/50 Mbps down at times and people are still unhappy.
I understand people's frustrations with the network/switching issues that are occurring between CDMA and LTE. But we live in an age where everyone feels entitled and important enough to immediately sue another company at the drop of a hat.
Here's an idea: If you are faced with severe LTE switching issues and it's a continuing problem, call up customer support. Tell them what is going on and let them help you. Yes, you are past your 14 day return policy, but you have one year of a device warranty, they will ship you out a replacement device. Since your Nexus works fine and your wife's does not, it leads me to believe that it's not a network issue in your area, and either: A. Your wife got two dud Nexus' in a row, which sucks but is not unheard of. or B. Your wife is using some sort of app or service that interferes with the radios. If you still have the issue after the 3rd replacement, call them up again and explain, and they just might be able to give her a different device altogether if the Nexus isn't working out for her.
Dear MMcCraryNJ,
hear my long plea if you have the time. If you don't that is okay.
Firstly, I am so glad you seem to be not affected by this issue on your GNex.
Every single day, I wish I was in your shoes.
On the brighter side though, with LTE Data/voice drop & severe vertical banded screen & one-way-microphone outbound issues, I have come to join in XDA forum. I've also gotten to know countless VZW / Samsung customer service representatives at all levels as well as local store customer service agents.
Secondly, I, and I am sure most of all the other GNex users with above issues, know that no product & service is guaranteed to work perfectly with 100% uptime. Personally, it takes a significant defect of any product for me to call customer service at all. I am one of those, who actually try to live with products that have minor flaws everyday. If GNex did drop my LTE 3-4 times daily, I'll live with out much complaint let alone 3 months that you've mentioned. 3 months of uptime would be heavenly, but I'll actually be perfectly fine with 3 hours uptime. Sadly, my uptime has been 5-10 minutes with LTE. If my one-way-outbound microphone cut off issue happened 1 out of 10 calls, I'll live happily. Sadly, nearly every other call makes my voice into a robot and I have to call back again.
I am personally coming from Droid Eris long long time ago when Android first came out with newest 3G technology back then. Eris wasn't issue free but my satisfaction with what I got was pretty much 95%. You see, as long as a product performs what it claimed to perform 60-80% of the time, I am happy. Claim and advertisement that Verizon made with CDMA Galaxy Nexus in the US as "The latest 4G LTE Pure Google ICS Smartphone meeting the most reliable 4G LTE network in the world" caught my attention, as many others, to actually decide to choose this new phone with my 2 year contract over countless androids that came out in the past 3 years.
Again, our frustration that is described on these post is described in detail here (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24345) it is not a LTE / 3G switch issue only. Switching issue is very small part of this problem. I will not go into any detail of one-way-microphone cut off issue at all, due to its unrelated nature on this particular post.
Just as you've suggested naively, your suggestions in order that you wrote them in were exactly the steps I thought and took from very first day I purchased GNex back 4 months ago from a local verizon store. I have stopped in at the verizon store to get exchanges of the actual device, SIM card. None of these replacements solved the data/voice drop issue. I am all talking about stock 4.0.2 without any apps installed on any of these GNex. It can't possibly be the bad batch as I received batches that were produced in completely different months. I loved whatever was promised with GNex so much that I was determined to find the one for me as no other devices Verizon offer at the time appeal to me at all. As 14 days has passed, the local verizon literally told me to 1) wait for the update 2) root your device to all different kind of ROMs and Radios 3) call VZW customer service. Which all of the advice I followed, I am still waiting, none of the ROMs and radios solved the issue.
Ever since then, I've been calling VZW and Samsung (when VZW transferred me), and talked to numerous customer service representatives at all different levels. (Level 2 & 3 and at some points I've been transferred and escalated twice to a person really higher up) With my efforts, I was actually able to tag all my calls, and send them screenshots (via e-mail), and follow through to actually make above mentioned issues officially put on VZW technical bulletin. It is a huge improvement, because when I first called about these issues, they told me "They've never heard of these issues.". Now, after all of our efforts, they admit there's over "120 technical bulletin reportings on these issues."
You do think that it is so easy to get a refurbished factory replacement phones with all my history right?
The answer is sadly No. They've been literally telling me to wait a little longer no matter how much I requested them to get me a replacement device. They are indeed very hesitant to keep replacing devices for all of us especially now days where the supposed update is going to resolve these issues. And on my end, I want to see first if the software fixes it, because I am literally burned out to get another screen protector install everything again, etc. Now the official answer is wait....for the update. If they don't keep their last promise of March update to resolve this issue, that is when my patience will run out and I'll jump to a different device. Although, I love this phone....
This is the longest online posting of any sort in my life ever. I hope this somewhat gives you a new perspective on what unlucky GNex user like myself had to go through in the past 4 months due to getting "bad batches"
Trust me, I hate to live in a society where anybody can talk about law suits against anybody. But, this was one of my first moments that I literally felt like I was hopeless & got betrayed by VZW / Samsung / Google. I started to fantasy about way to make them responsible for this poor product and service. All I wanted was at least 60 percent working "4G LTE Smartphone". (4G LTE is turned off due to connection drop, Phone is unusable as business purposes due to frequent one-way-cut off). After $299 and 2 year contract with $75 monthly service bill of 4 months with all the time I spent to help VZW/Samsung with this issue as a customer, my wildest dreams of thinking of participating in a class law suit, which will never happen, actually make me feel a little bit less helpless towards these major corporations as a customer.
Thank you for hearing my plea. I sincerely apologize for the length of this post.
Hope more of us can enjoy this great GNex in the near future.
After all, I love this device, I love this XDA forum and GNex community. I wouldn't want to switch to a different device just yet
Okay, here's the list of issues I'm having with no fix found yet. Hopefully I can get help because this is just NOT okay at all...
Precursor info, I'm using the Leather-backed T-Mobile phone. No I will not take it back, screw the $50 restocking BS, I am willing to RMA it though if this is just a lemon phone. I do have the density changed to 540 via adb and NO that's not causing any issues that I'm aware of at all other than stock launcher app drawer looks FUNKY, haha (I use nova so whatever). I had greenery but that's gone now because that's maybe at fault? I don't even know. I did not have these issues on the Note 4 and I used probably 10-15 different ROMs with no problems. Go to G4 and boom a mess of ****. (Pardon my wordage)
-Keyboard, it's got some MASSIVE lag for the hold space to seek, and for the secondary key functions. I mean MASSIVE HUGE lag.
-Volume throttling, this almost never happens, but occasionally it will get REALLY quiet and the only way to fix that is to restart that app (seems to be if I accidentally hit play during a notification it won't leave the ducking level <-- ducking, not the other word, ducking, haha)
-Equalizer, I was using the CM MaxxAudio (AudioFX) with NO issues then randomly today it's not working over bluetooth (when it was yesterday) so I said "oh well, I'll figure it out" only to now have no EQ whatsoever outside of 1. Poweramp (not device-wide so I don't care about it) and 2. the stock app with stock eq (again, not device-wide so don't want that). Every app I add, nothing, no eq changes, absolutely NOTHING. Uninstalled it all, restarted, blah blah, nothing.
-Headphones plugged in are sometimes seen as a headset and they don't have a mic...starts google and then bye bye voice, don't even try, it's looking for a mic that ain't there.
-Missed touches, just seems to me to be user error, I'm used to Samsung and this is LG, a little bit less Glove friendly so any touches have to be a tad heavier, nothing as bad as some people I've seen.
-Device gets HOT for no reason, it's not doing anything special, music is NOT intensive, this also wrecks my battery life...
-Overmodulation for no reason, by this I mean if you max out the audio guess what, it sounds like crap, now why would that be I wonder? Considering it's not amplifying much (My headphone amp solves that problem, but since audio wants to be a whole world of stupid I'm just really at a loss here)
-Just music in general, like why does nothing work right? I'm at my wits end, I've had it for less than a week and EQ is bad, headphones aren't seen right, volume is a mess, heat is a mess (screen off guys, inside, in air-conditioning, it's not right) apps that eq a phone are just poop, is this the T-Mobile update? Did that kill everything? Is this my device? Is it a lemon? Is this DPI? I've never ever seen that do any of these things, and it hasn't been an issue to anything. Issues started mostly today. (Headphones being seen wrong is periodic and not specific to today). someone help me please, I need an EQ, I need my battery back, and I need my phone to stop freaking out.
Should I factory reset and see if that clears things up? Did greenify kill stuff?
I'm tempted to call LG and get some answers from them. This is just NOT okay with me. LOVE the phone, LOVE LOVE LOVE the camera, but man screw this crap. Not good QC at ALLLL....
My G4 is working fine apart from the odd missed touch. Thats all I can say.

Well that's just beautiful, will try a reset and see if that helps, otherwise it's time to call T-Mobile/LG
Also got the TMO version with brown leather yesterday. I hear you on the heat issues and it slaughtering the battery, and some missed touches... but not experiencing any of the other issues listed yet...
I'd try a reset. Also, is this an upgrade ( jump or regular upgrade on EIP ) or a new line or did you just buy it outright ? Asking because, other than buying it outright, there shouldn't be a restock fee to exchange within the first 14 days.
T-mobile always charges a restocking fee unless it is an exchange because of a build issue. Coming from Sprint (left them a year ago), that was always disturbing about T-mobile. Sprint had a 30 day return w/o restocking fee, then went to 14 days, and then back up to 30 days.
The only issue I've had was overheating. My phone got really hot doing mundane things and that caused the battery to suffer. I got a replacement from TMO and so far (only been a day), no issues with overheating. But I will have to put it through it's paces over the next few days.

So, did they charge you a re-stock fee ? And did you get another G4 as replacement or a completely different device ?
NO restock fee and yes, I got another G4.

If I may, what was wrong with the first G4 ? And, is the replacement any better/worse/same ?
Equalizer Im pretty bummed about not able to have a system-wide Equalizer...tried many ..but to no avail.:crying: God I cant wait for root to install a good DSP manager...let me know if you find a working solution to this issue without root.
Keyboard..i find it pretty responsive except for the damn spacebar lag...got to constantly watch what Im writing to ensure proper spacing...hope its resolved by LG
Volume throttling...totally agree..I can see the volume throttle itself back in the status notification...too many times for my liking.
Battery...phone is actually running good and battery is good. Im using a quick charging adapter and the phone gets pretty hot while charging ..im not sure if its gonna wreck/fry my battery as there is no quick charge confirmation from the system..even though LG says its officially supported...
Touch response. I find it ok, like you, except for a few missed touches...notably at double tap to turn on device..sometimes i feel like the upper half of the screen is more responsive to DT2W than the lower half. A bit annoying when I need to access the phone quickly.
Build quality. Not too bad. Device is easy to hold and light. But I have notices that there is creaking of my back cover around the USB port. It almost feels like the back cover isn't secured properly there (not sure if its just my back cover as I don't have any other to try)
Apart from these issues.....loving it.
This phone (downgrade) is going back today. LG screw up this phone.

Return it to T-Mobile for another - what are you waiting for? You gotta have a bad one. The system wide EQ is a different issue, and for better or worse it's supposed to be handled by the app. You try another pair of headphones. Some headphones don't play nice, both 3 and 4 pole.
I'm very strongly considering returning mine for a Galaxy S6. The wifi issue alone is infuriating. The touchscreen issue isn't as frustrating as the wifi, but that is definitely a problem too. I have six more days under AT&T's return policy. If a fix isn't found by then, it's gone.
This was my first LG phone, having been a Samsung fan for years. Sadly, they have me questioning that decision to switch. Very disappointing, LG.

The phone got incredibly hot >107F doing mundane things like listening to tune-in radio or making a phone call. So far the replacement is much better, but it also updated when I turned it on, so not sure if the update fixed it or the new phone. I'm definitely getting better battery life on the new phone/new update as a cooler battery operates better.
As far as the audio getting quite when you start music or skip tracks during a notification that's not new. It's dependent on the app. Ie Pandora has always done this to me even in nexus 4/5.
the more I use it the more bugs I discover. setting do not stick, that is for sure. wifi goes to sleep, although I selected the option to keep it on when screen off. screen sleeps although I selected the option to never let it go to sleep. camera keeps asking for location although I keep clicking no. Brightness goes to maximum when I reboot the phone, although it was in auto before rebooting it. many annoying things lile that.

You forgot that the s6 active is ugly as sin. I have no issues with my g4. Sorry you guys are.
I have had this phone a total of 3 days. I am coming from a iPhone 6 and previously had a Galaxy s4 and 5 before this.
This phone is annoying me. Its sad because its so beautiful and if it functioned normally, we wouldn't have a problem. Sometimes I want to throw this thing across the room.
Someone please help me with these issues. I rely on wifi and wifi calling.
Issue 1: When I am home and connected to wifi and wifi calling, my messages and alerts do not come to me when I leave the phone down for a while and it goes to sleep. I will pick my phone up and suddenly I will get all my text messages and alerts. Wifi sleeping is on NEVER already. My iPhone never had this issue, nor did the previous samsung phones.
Issue 2: When I leave my house, the internet connection does not work all the time. Today I left my house and drove somewhere and needed to use my gps. I had full LTE service, and it was telling me I am not connected. This also happened with my apps that also did not work because it was acting as if I was not connected. Issue was fixed with a phone restart. I do not want to restart my phone everytime I leave wifi.
Issue 3: MMS does not receive or send on wifi. I had this issue with prior galaxy, but I am shocked this still has not been adressed.
I also keep LTE voice OFF because like with other phones that have VOLTE, for some reason it just does not work that well. I am in NYC so its not a reception thing.
Those are my MAIN issues and would like some help with them.
The only other thing apple has samsung beat on is that with headphones connected, the apple blows away the samsung in terms of volume and sound quality. Its sad because I have expensive headphones that I would love to use all the time, so I guess I will have to buy an iPod touch when and if I sell the iPhone
Also the screen is very sensitive. I see myself accidentally opening apps when all I want to do is swipe across my menu screens. Not to mention it keeps telling me that hangouts stopped working, when I have it disabled already!
I am stock btw. Latest version, and battery has been good surprisingly. I do not want to root
Anyway, thanks everyone and please help and address the top two issues
Turning Wifi calling off will help drastically with those issues have you tried it without yet?

As I said, I rely on wifi and wifi calling. I live in a basement apartment with zero service. Who would buy a phone that is almost 1000 dollars, and have to turn off services you pay for to make it work the right way? There is no way wifi could be turned off while I am home

Try doing a factory wipe, that usually solves issues like that.
Factory reset a brand new phone? Sweet.
Contact your carrier and request a signal booster, no charge to you. Then you can rely on data instead of wifi. Also start a complaint ticket for the phone, after a while they will send you to tmobile store and replace phone. Maybe it's buggy, maybe it's not.
But if you really have to throw it I'll come over and catch it.
Our phones must be total opposites because this is the best Samsung phone I have had, this makes # 4, Captivate, GS2, SG4 and now the S6e.
But you never know, visit the Tmobile store, remember that you have 14 days to be totally satisfied, that means replacement with another NEW phone if necessary.
Pp.
I know your pain. The fact that you're on t-mobile for wifi calling and this garbage device just not cutting it huh. I had almost all flagship samsung phone and this one right here is the most frustrating and expensive one of all. This device out of box is just terrible. Memory management, wifi issues, battery leak, FC left and right is just what I experience. Honestly this phone is making me understand why apple is better. Not because the people are stupid. But because they don't deal with half of the broken process we do here in Android. Yea I agree apple is like 2 years behind android but wtf. Now with Jump on demand I am thinking to make the switch to Apple or continue to toss my phone on the table when upset that the device once again is not responding. But lesson learned. Not jumping on new Android devices on release. This phone is a testament why.
Actually the phone works great right now. Maybe it needed a few days to become normal. Battery life is better then my iPhone 6. The text issue seems to ha e gone away. I still from time to time have the issue of leaving my house from WiFi and the phone acting like it has no connection, which requires a restart. I wonder what is causing that. Overall I'm happy with this device.
I can relate to you on T-Mobile LTE, and the screen. Although the reason the accidental app opening while swiping I think was happening because my hand was touching the side of the edge screen. Hold the phone differently or put a case on it and will notice this issue is decreased or gone completely.
There is still a screen issue with this phone and I've noticed it when typing out a fast message. Touch inputs do not register sometimes. That issue has some what been resolved with the case and my hand not being on the edge, but the issue is still there. My Note 3's screen is so much better in regards to accuracy and sensitivity.
For a $1000 phone, this thing should be close to flawless but it does have quite a few flaws, especially with Touchwiz and crappy lollipop. My main issue with TW is the way it manages memory. I just wanna throw this phone at the wall and stomp on it. I'll be in Chrome, go to reply to a text and make a note in Google keep, or whatever, come back to Chrome and it reloading the page I was just viewing a minute ago. So damn frustrating.
I haven't really been on XDA as much as I have in the past, but what ROMs can we flash for this phone because from the looks of it, the dev forum is a ghost town.
In regards to T-Mobile's crud network, just switch your phone into airplane mode, then off, a lot faster than rebooting the phone. This issue I've noticed only happens with LTE, what I do is just go to network settings and switch to WCDMA ONLY, which turns off LTE and connects to HSPA only, which is more reliable and FASTER in my area. Hope I helped someone out there cause I just typed this all on my S6 Edge.
Don't get me wrong, I love this damn phone and wouldn't trade it for any other phone, but better believe I'm gonna swap it out for the Note 5.
This phone has fantastic hardware and the worst software of any phone I've ever owned. I can make compressed twrp backups in like 10 minutes. The screen is the prettiest I've ever seen. The fingerprint reader is very good. The camera is damned fantastic. The software is a pile of dog ****. Samsung should be ashamed. They should be ashamed because I just bought a heavily discounted Fire Phone and loading CM11 on it because I just can't take this crappy phone any longer. I'll check back in on the next update to see if things have improved. Until then I'll be using a phone that cost around 4.5 times less and will somehow perform better.
Funny thing is I have to reboot it if that problem ever happens. Airplane mode doesn't reset it. Weird
Going to have to disagree politely with the OP on headphone output quality. I too have an iPhone 6 and while yes, it has more volume, they both have enough volume to drive proper headphones and I find the output on the S6 to be extremely clean and more lively than the iPhone 6 output. Check GSMArena's review and notice they say it has the cleanest output of any smartphone they've tested thanks to the onboard Wolfson DAC. To each their own with sound quality, but I find the S6 to be extremely good, especially after the 5.1.1 update.

Nonsense! That sort of behavior is not allowed here!
Yeah nothing wrong with disagreeing. In my opinion it's much lower then the iPhone 6. It went from being fun to listen to music on my vmoda m100s to me wishing I could make it louder on my gs6. Also affected the quality in my car via Bluetooth. Much lower output. I guess every one has their preference
I've had Honor 7x for about a week now and I love the phone. I experience no lags or any other issues except one. Touch screen sometimes acts up and is not responsive and sometimes I have to touch the same spot like two or three times to get it to work and it's so frustrating.
The only way that I'm able to make it work well as it should again is by restarting the phone, and then it's all good until next day or so.
Have you guys noticed the same symptom?
May I Ask....

Short Answer For Me.. No.
Are you still within your return period ? Swap it out for a new one.. and see if it's any better.
If Not... Sell It.
Didnt have any issue as such..
Get it checked..
I am having the same issue now I believe. Phone worked great for about two weeks then started having screen issues. I have to push a little harder and slower than normal or touches don't want to register. The buttons along the bottom and the pull down menu at the top of the screen seem especially bad. A reboot clears it right up for a time. I'm past the return period so I have to send it in for a warranty repair. Were you able to get the issue resolved with your phone? I'm a little worried with it being a sort of intermittent issue they won't be able to reproduce the issue and won't fix it.
Yes it is buggy !

Hi,
Yes, I'm also facing the same issue and thinking that removing the tempered glass may help.
Also, there are lags and lack of responsiveness in this device time to time and I don't feel it as a Hardware issue. Its just that if you are not used to clearing out apps from recents, unlike 90 percent of the other users and if you ever felt the phone's hardware/software competent enough to handle those by itself and at the same time, maintaining the performance, then you are wrong.
Now after a good 2 months of usage, I can say that we will have to wait for a slim pure AOSP rom for this device to please us. Its not at all a balanced device and indeed its a total flop. I feel no joy( and sometimes want to throw it on the wall also) in using it now because of these 3 issues :
1. Time to time lag/hanging - due to not clearing recents frequently - Since I do not believe it is really required for a phone with 4GB ram and Kirin, equal to SD 652 processor. My OP2/ Mi Max and all others used to be much much better than this piece of sh**.
2. Touch not snappy and feels like less responsive for a fast user. May be perfectly fine for the one's using it in a relaxed way.
3. Notification quick reply screen timeout because of not recognising it as an active function.
- From a quite unhappy first time honor user !
I got in touch with customer service and they advised me to factory reset it.
After that phone actually felt better with no issues.
However, I was still within the 15 day return window and I didn't want to take the chance, I sent it back and bought another one.
With the new phone all I can say is that I love the phone. No touch screen issues, no lag what so ever, it is extremely fast and even after I cranked it up with apps it didn't get any slower. I can say that it's faster than my broken Nexus 6p.
Love it
Glad you got a new one sadly I missed my return window. I tried a factory reset and only installed a podcast app different from the one I normally use and actually Uninstaller a few factory apps like Facebook, Instagram and couple Google apps docs and sheets. Still had the issue after some use. Always seems to happen after 20-30 minutes of phone calls. I have contacted support and will most likely be sending it in. I'm getting the b140 update as I type this and the change log says "Performance optimization changes has been included in the current software" so maybe that will fix it. What are the odds. Is it hardware is it software I don't know but I would think if it were hardware a reboot wouldn't make the issue go away for a while but that's probably flawed logic. Also I'm using the US variant (L24) 32gb/3gb.

I was having a touch issue, but changed in the settings-Smart assistance-touch disable mode (un toggled it)
Well it's been a couple of days since I received the b140 update and so far my screen hasn't acted up. I'm not 100% sure it's fixed but so far so good.

This seems to have resolved my issue also. Thanks for the tip!
Since it seems software related, and I imagine this 'feature' is to detect whether you 'meant' to touch the screen or not, it would make sense that this is potentially the problem. In my case especially, I would describe the issue as it seems like my screen falls asleep if I take too long between interactions.
Edit: this actually didn't resolve the issue

Unfortunately after further testing the issue persists. Most noticeable in clash of clans, Facebook, Snapchat, other slightly higher resource usage apps.

Still digging in on this, I enabled Show Taps from the developer options and the malfunctioning taps actually do show up when they occur. I sent an email to support 2 days ago with no response yet. Will probably have to call I guess. womp.

got my phone more than 15 days ago, issue started becoming more prevalent this past week. notably when i'm playing rhythm games (lol). thought ir was the tempered glass screen protector but its now happening with a film/wet application protector. i can't replicate it consistently either. would be interested in updates, this is really frustrating.

I still haven't received an email response, however if you go to the site via mobile you are presented with a live chat option during their business hours (listed on the site https://www.hihonor.com/us/support/index.html). I used that to arrange the repair return for the phone. They don't simply replace it which is kind of frustrating, so I guess it's back to my trusty nexus 5 for a week or two. ?

i've done some looking around -- i know this thread is much older than the recent UI update, but it looks like the most recent update has messed up the touch sensitivity completely. loads of people are complaining on the hihonor forum. hoping this'll be something they can fix with a patch.
really hoping that i won't have to send it in, this is a replacement for my old phone since the charge port was completely shot. so i'd have to buy a new phone anyway...
thanks for the update, hope this all gets fixed soon!
This appears to be related to the most recent update. That is when it started becoming more of an obvious issue.
Oreo will fix this surely... I had same but now its fixed ?
Touch sensitivity
I'm having the same issue, my screen touch is not sensitive I used to have moto g4 it's been a couple of yrs since I bought it even that screen touch sensitivity is better than this. But overall features camera screen everything is good except the touch sensitivity, I need to click everything a couple of times to respond and even while texting I'm missing out some letters. BTW I won't use any screen guard or tampered glass and it's been a week since I'm using honor 7x.Apart from the screen sensitivity issue I'm damn satisfied with the product.
Thanks,
Aditya

I can also confirm that this is a software issue and is resolved by the Oreo update (currently beta, link below), at least for my case of ghost taps registering on different parts of the screen than what I am actually touching. I've been running Oreo for a week now and this is definitely the phone I was hoping for when I bought it :good: I've been emailing details regarding this issue with a member of their beta support team and it has been relayed to development. Hopefully they can/will release a hotfix for nougat in the meantime.
Oreo is currently in beta. The forum post regarding beta enrollment :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7x/how-to/how-to-beta-test-emui-8-0-oreo-based-t3757323
I used to have similar problems, particularly when I try to scroll by sliding it would actually open the link if there is one where I first touched. Also writing was difficult on SwiftKey, it would jump over and behaved as if I hit enter.
I joined oreo beta and upgraded yesterday, all these problems seem to have disappeared. Fingers crossed, will wait and see a few more days.
