Hi. I just recently purchased an HTC Touch Pro2 from T-Mobile running WinMo 6.5. That being said, I have not been able to open any cab files on the device to install some software. Basically I'll transfer the cab to the device and attempt to open it. I get one of three messages depending on the app I guess. the most basic is "Installation was unsuccessful" to "Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting...not digitally signed...trusted certificate" (this was from MobileFTPClient). Installing Opera Mini 5 gives a simple: "Installation of mini5wm.cab was unsuccessful".
Ok, so being a software developer for 10 years I've been looking into some registry values and can't seem to find what I need to get anything to install. If I download from the Windows Marketplace that's all good, but nothing else.
What do I need to do to be able to install cab flils directly? Honestly if I can't get this to work this phone is going back. I moved from an iPhone to this phone specifically so I can install apps and monkey around with the device, but so far I'm done before I started.
Thanks for any info you can give me.
its in one of your phone/device settings to let u download and install apps or cabs not digitally signed. thats all, i believe. just find it and check it off. or look for advanced config cab if u can find it and install that. it has an option in there also to let u download/install whatever..

The cab I have attached may help you...it's some SDK certificates that will allow installation of certain unsigned apps, but I don't know if this is what the ones you're running are requiring and missing. It won't harm anything to try this one, and you can easily uninstall it if it doesn't do the trick
Thanks guys. Sirphunkee - that cab actually installed, but I'm having the same problem. Another forum has suggested that I take the device back to T-Mobile, but it just seems like there's a setting that's not right in the OS. Demandarin - I've looked for various security permissions in the UI with no luck. I've mucked around with some Policy values in the registry per some threads on this forum, but still nothing.
I'll keep trying, and thanks.
So...weird; Opera Mini and Weather Bug (well known apps) wouldn't install, but an SMS notification disable cab installed (from the xda site) as did Evernote (evernote.com). I have no clue what the deal is, but it's getting beyond stupid that I can't install just any cab file.

Have you already installed .Net 3.5? It's a framework that many other programs use (and need) to install, and it's not on the TP2 by default...it's the only other think I could think of that would keep you from installing stuff. Cab is attached, if you don't have it already.
Got it. I installed the Device Security Manager PowerToy and was able to change the configuration there. Opera Mini 5 just installed.
Never would have thought the phone would come that locked down, but so far so good. Thanks for all of the ideas.

Well yeah what's weird is that I never had to use that to get any of those apps installed
Thought I would write a thread showing how to simply complete an unlock with Chevron WP7 and some common homebrew apps/tweaks for all platforms. The information is scattered and varied, but I will edit this post to be as useful as possible for beginners as a one stop source. Thanks to the following threads for info:

Unlocking with Chevron WP7
The first step to "sideloading" applications to your phone (applications not approved by Microsoft) is to developer unlock your device.
Downloads needed:
Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools (annoyingly large, but necessary)
Chevron WP7 Application, Chevron Security Certificate, Chevron Registry Entry
TCPView for Windows (don't neglect this, it saves a lot of time and is a useful utility!)
Steps for unlocking:
Install Windows Phone 7 Developer tools. This will require a reboot at the end.
Email the "ChevronWP7.cer" file to your Windows Phone 7 device.
Open the email, tap on the attachment to download it. The icon will turn into a shield, tap again to get a new dialog. Press "Install" then OK.
Put your WP7 Phone into airplane mode (Settings>Airplane mode>Slide the toggle to ON)
Double click the ChevronWP7.reg file on your computer. A prompt will open up asking if you want to write this to your registry. Press Yes to continue, then OK at the end.
Open TCPView. (tcpview.exe inside of the downloaded archive) Click on the heading marked "Local Port" until the arrow next to it is pointing up.
Look on the Local Port column for any entries labeled "HTTPS". These programs MUST be closed for Chevron to work properly. Common culprits are Skype, and XAMPP. Use Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+Delete) to ensure they are closed if you run into issues.
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable. Open the Zune software if it is not already open, and wait for it to finish syncing.
Open your Zune software and go to the Phone page, and make SURE you don't see anything that denotes that you are in a "Guest Sync" relationship with the device. It needs to be the primary computer the phone is synced with.
Unlock your phone and leave it at the home screen. Make sure the phone does not go to sleep after this.
Open ChevronWP7.exe. It should be running as administrator. Check both boxes, and press Unlock.
Cross your fingers, and you should be up and running on a developer unlocked device! (The Unlock button will change to Relock in Chevron if this is successful)
If you receive the error "Phone is locked with a PIN", it means your phone was locked when the fix was being applied. Make sure to unlock your phone (so you can see the live tiles) BEFORE pressing the unlock button.
If the program crashes, navigate to C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\etc and right click the file named hosts and press properties. Uncheck read only and press OK, then try again.
Homebrew Applications
All homebrew applications are installed as follows:
Go to Start>Programs>Windows Phone Developer Tools> and run Application Deployment
Ensure the target is "Windows Phone 7 Device"
Browse to the .XAP that you are loading.
Connect your phone, wait for Zune sync to finish. Ensure it is not guest.
Unlock phone and keep it awake. Press "Deploy" and the application should load (not extremely fast, and will appear in your app list without a reboot when done)
If the above doesn't work, then try resetting your phone and retrying. Also, restart your computer if the problem persists.

HTC and LG offer utilities in their section of the marketplace for MMS/data, so just grab one of those! Samsung's utility is faulty by design to keep people from unlocking, thus the hack.
What does this mean? Is ig that samsung phones have trouble unlocking because I bought my wife a focus and I had the same error message. But I haven't tried the way posted here. So I will be trying this way and replying. Thanks!
pls help me with this: I have HTC Surround and can not sync with zune, it doesn´t start when connect the phone and if start manually it doesn´t connect and sync neither
thank you for this one. it works exactly it was described on the first page. samsung omnia 7 portugal bought phone. but using it in Turkey.
Win Phone 7 MMS settings XML
So I dont know if this helps, or if anyone a little more knowledgable than I can attack this with me but I have the XML and registry settings for MMS from my LG quantum. I have a focus and LG Quantum. My LG has the XML viewer and reg editor built right in, which I friggen love.
So I took pix of the whole xml file that should be enough info to change the profile to the right settings, with the reg keys.
At first glance here it looks like just changing a couple string values... of the key at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ShortMsg\MMS in the ADDR string value to your MMS server would be a start. I will look further into it after work tonight. If anyone beats me to it... so be it. Just thought I would toss this out there just in case it helps.

Hi, I'm new here.
So I followed each step thoroughly, and when I execute 'ChevronWP7' and check off each box and click 'unlock', the program says it has stopped working.
What could be the issue?
Also:
I have the phone on the main menu
I do have all necessary programs running
Samsung re-lock prevention hack doesn't work for me
After deploying the xap it seems to take, but, my Focus is always relocked after syncing. Not a huge deal to unlock before deploying, but, thought it was worth a mention...
Edit: Nevermind. Didn't realize they're was an app on the phone to run as well... Should have read the original thread first. Sorry...

Under Mango it will install under Settings (both apps).
there is no straight forward way to uninstall the newly installed apps from the settings page. I successfully uninstalled with XAPDeployX. Sideload the xap again and check "force uninstall if application is already installed". Then click deploy. The program will uninstall the existing one on the device first and report this in the deploy tool with a success message. Right then you unplug the phone from the USB. Voila - it is now uninstalled and gone from settings.
Somebody else posted that you can install an older version (e.g. v1.3) that will show up in apps. Then you uninstall and it normally and it will be removed from settings as well.
just in case it doesn't work for you and you want to remove it...
thanks
edit1: Cool, I can confirm that adding new themes works fine now on LG Quantum. With v1.3 only an existing one could be changed (there is a little bug that it multipies the colors within the program when you go back and forth, but luckily it doesn't stick in settings). When the app first opens I get an "UnauthorizedAccessException" message, but it continues to run.
I honestly have no clue, never installed a "Settings App" before. I'm not even on Mango yet. Waiting for the official update. I installed them on NoDo so I'll be ready & they show up as apps.

It would appear that the error message can be overcome using the ProvXML method to edit the Registry in Mango. Do the following Registry Edit;
-Allow max number of unsignd apps
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install]
"MaxUnsignedApp"=dword:7fffffff

For anyone who having the error 81030120 with the final SDK Kit, try to install the Beta Tool Kit , i mean the SDK Beta 1, or Beta 2, you can google for Offline install.
This is the direct link for Offline Installer, Full ISO of SDK Beta 1 7.1:

from:

I read an article from WPCentre a few mins ago and they said the Beta tool kit doesn't prevent user from Installing XAP that change the System File. So let's hope this work.
PS: DOn't even bother. Tried. And doesn't work.
I'm pleased that I found this app! I was bummed that Mango had such limited color choices for the tiles. Now I've got my dark blue back!!!
Works Perfect!
Installs and works perfectly on my HD2 running official Mango with the XBmod-Yuki rom.
Hi,
I'm using the insider preview on my lumia 640, and I tried to remove the Lumia help and tips app. Now the app is still there, with a blank icon and no possibility to remove it.
furthermore, when I use search and type anything starting with the H or L, search crashes.
I think this is related to the lumia help and tips app, because in dutch it says Lumia Help+Tips (help+tips being counted as 1 word, so one word starts with the H and the other with L).
Anyone else with a similar problem? Or any solution?
No pun intended, but have you tried turning It off and on again?
same problem
I with my lumia 930 the same problem.... You need search in the app store the app install again and you deinstall it normal way.
yeah, tried turning it off an on again, no luck.
and I can't find the app in the store
after a bit more searching I found the store link to help and tips, trying to install it now
edit: now Lumia help and tips shows up twice in the applist, one of them having a blank icon

If the app's database is damaged/corrupted, nothing will work except reflash. I have similar issue on the interop-unlocked L-822; OneDrive somehow become non-working, standard store update is not working. I tried to delete the app using some tricks (like changing date for hundred years, corecon operations, physical app deletion from the phone storage - no luck at all). But this is a test handset and I actually don't care about OneDrive health.

I got problem installing this
Hi! Did you get the app working?
I recently upgraded my Lumia 1020 to 10.0.10586.1007 via the "Enterprise hack".. (Found a licence file)
I wanted to have Lumia Refocus, and found this post. However, I'm not able to deploy the file. (Have both Appdeploy 8.0 and 8.1 installed).
The Windows Application Deployment worked with deploying Root Tools (.xap) from xda-forums. I have used Root Tools to Jailbreak both "Interop + Capability unlock" and "Unlock Win10 Capabilities" ..
However, I can't get it to deploy the Lumia Refocus.xap ... Only returns error 0x81030120
Any idea how to fix?
@henxan, I did nothing special but phone must be interop & caps unlocked (by using Interop Tools). XAP was deployed via standard "Windows Phone Application Deployment 8.1" from SDK.
Offtopic: i still use VPV xap deployer.
@sensboston I updated my Lumia 1020 to 10.0.14393.1066 today, to see if that made any difference - it didn't
About the unlock - you said interop and cap unlock? I used Root tool, which I found here on xda, and chose to check the "Capability unlock" under "Interop + Capability Unlock" as well as checked "Unlock Windows Capabilities" under "Unlock Win10 Capabilities". Shouldn't this do it?
I am obviously able to deploy using "Windows phone application deployment (8.1)" since I used that tool to deploy "Root Tool.xap". Why won't it deploy the Lumia Refocus? Any ideas?

Oooops.. Just discovered I was supposed to choose templates to apply.. Working on it now - trouble getting my pc to recognize my mobile.
---------- Post added at 08:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:17 PM ----------
Hmm.. seems like my pc suddenly is not able to recognize my lumia device. If i use windows phone internals it only says Brand/Model: "Nokia Lumia" Operating model: "Normal (Windows phone)" .. No more info.. strange.. Can this be the reason - it does not recognize the phone - no product code, no operator, no firmware version ... I only once got wininternals to show me more device info. Really scared that my microusb-connection is damaged. .. Anyone met this problem before?
So I've tried installing SDK tools lite 8.0 & 8.1 and other recommended things to my second pc, to see if that helps. Well. The phone is recognized, it is unlocked for development. Everything seem to be correct - still I get the 0x81030120 error. I saw someone mention something about the "Info+Extras" could be related to this error? Anyone who can verify/dismiss this? Should I do a hard reboot and stop the phone from updating "Info+Extras" in the store?
Ok - final update from me .. I reset my phone and chose a restore point with earlier release such that I got Lumia Camera app. Then i hurried to stop automatic updates - notably the "Info + Extras" update. After getting the phone up-to-date, without updating "Info+Extras", I installed the "Root Tools.xap" I found here on xda (Developer mode on phone) using Windows Application Deployment. I jailbroke the phone and NOW "Lumia Refoucus" installed ... Works great..
BTW: I see that microsoft store have an update for "Lumia Refocus" - should I install, or do I risk fudging my Refous-app?
You can't update sideloaded app. Also AFAIK MS pulled app from the store for W10M handsets (it's visible but you can't install it at all).
Yes you can. Reinstall store variant 11606.
[CORRECTION] I was wrong, it's possible with the trick. Check for updates, store should start downloading a new version of "Lumia Refocus". Pause download, go to the apps and uninstall sideloaded app first, than go back to the store and resume download.
I instaled version 1.1.4.7. and i got this error:
