So I use google music player instead of the native s3 music player from samsung because I have all my music uploaded to the google cloud. I just got the s3 a month ago and continually have this issue. I'm listening to music then all of a sudden it stops, it looks like its still playing but can't hear anything and then when I try and back out of it its frozen.
Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this issue?
thx in advance

This was something I experienced while on frosty jb rom. Thought I was crazy the only way I fixed it was to force stop the app when it happened. Quite annoying I know

I think its a problem with touchwiz, so far have not had any issues with toasted .marshmallows. a solution I found is to go to application manager and clear data under Google play. Its not efficient and you have to wait a few minutes for it to sync again.

Are you rooted? I had that same issue on jellybean stock w/ root. Better Battery Stats showed I kept getting a LPAplayer wakelock and when I changed the build.prop following this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25475691&postcount=4732) it seemed to help. Dunno what the cause is or why that would fix it, but try it out if you have root.
thank you for all the responses.
So I am not rooted, just on the out of the box sg3 system.
I will try some of the suggestions..disappointed that there is the issue. And it does the same thing whether streaming from the cloud or the songs I have pined for offline listening which sits on the cache. :crying:
I'm having the exact same issue. I'm on stock JB, not rooted. It'll play a song or two then just freeze. I have to back completely out and try again and get the same results. Frustrating, because I don't store any music at all on my device.

and like me do you experience same results whether its streaming or playing a pined/cached song?
I wonder if there is someone to report this? I imagine it must be a know issue though?

Shouldn't be a touchwiz issue, as I have the same problem even though I'm running Nova Prime. I just replaced the google player widget with the samsung one and have been happy ever since. I don't really miss the cloud sync cause my library rarely changes much.
I am having the same issue. I thought it might be the romantic I was running, but now it has happened on two different roms. I wonder if it is a Jellybean issue?

I see this every so often when I am listening to music in the cloud. I never had this issue with my Vibrant. I am betting it is the Google music player needing a fix

Play music has been buggy for the past few releases. Bout the only solution is to roll back to a previous version. Down side is you lose themeing

I'm still having this issue. I don't have music pinned on my device, it's all in the cloud. Never, ever had this issue on my Vibrant. I actually went to Google's help today and the rep who called said they know it's happening with this phone. He advised me to uninstall the updates and then reinstall from the market. I did that, and it actually feels worse. Now it's "frozen" on one song and won't let me select another. The only buttons I have available are back, pause and forward, but it isn't playing anything.
Interestingly, I just uninstalled updates again, taking my Play Music app back to v4.3.606.400990 and it seems to be working fine. I've even had music interrupted a few times by phone calls and it picks up again and plays with no help from me.
Used to happen to me as well on stock, but since rooted and now running 4.2.1 problem has disappeared
same problem with vzw gs3
I have this same problem with my phone. The following steps detail what reproduces the issue for me.
Play Music starts playing, gets through about two songs, then stops.
When waking the phone Play Music is frozen. The pause, previous and next track buttons, but nothing on the screen responds to touch.
Hold down home button and use the built in task manager to end Play Music, accepting the warning.
Restart Play Music and continue playing. It will play normally after that.
However, from then on the LPAPlayer will keep the phone from sleeping.
If I leave it alone, it will show wakelocks into the 10-15 hour range.
A reboot of the phone will fix the wakelock, until I use Play Music again.
I am on stock rooted JB for VZW (VRBLK3). I don't think it's ROM or even phone specific though.Iit seems to affect a wide spectrum of ROMs and a few different phones on different carriers.
I am currently trying out the recommendation on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34586729&postcount=10
I am about six songs in now, will report back if it fails.

Did this work for you? I see that you have not posted again so I am guessing yes? This started happening to me when I went to JB Rom.

I recently bought one of the unlocked fire phones and added google play, all the services, etc. to it and so far everything has worked fine. i tried to launch the music app today for the first time and it wont open. the phone does not respond at all when i touch the music app icon, so i download prime music app and tried it but it crashes right after launching. this is the only problem i have experienced so far and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or knows how to fix this problem. thanks!
I also just recently bought one of the unlocked phones and had a similar problem. The first night I got the phone I transferred a bunch of media from my old phone including my music and was able to use both the music app and Prime music app. Then the next day both apps went dead. I tried all the usual stuff like clearing data and cache, reinstall prime etc. but nothing worked. Unfortunately I had to resort to a factory reset on the phone to fix it. Ever since then (around two weeks) they have been working fine.
My only complaint is for some reason the default music app doesn't show album covers for some of my music while they all show in Prime music.
I know why the music apps stopped working now! After adding the Google Play Store there is an update offered for Amazon Prime music. This update will kill Prime and the regular music app on the phone. I just installed the update a little bit ago by accident and sure enough both apps went dead. Went back to the play store and my apps and clicked uninstall on Prime Music and it uninstalled the update and now both are working again.
Same happened to me. Just make sure to disable auto-updating within google play store to prevent it from happening again.
what version of the app does work? can someone link this app to me ?
Hi guys i've just bought a fresh new moto 360. I played with it a few hours and there's something i can't get to work.
I noticed that when i launch the google play music on the phone, the card for controlling the music disappears in a second and it never turns back until i pause music from the phone. If i press play on the moto360, card goes away and never turns back until...and so on. I think (and i hope) that this is not the way it's meant to work
Android Wear app on the phone is the latest i suppose, i've downloaded it a few hours ago
Build number of the moto 360 OS is LWX49L (5.0.2)
Help please

I think it's a bug in the music app as I have the same intermittent issue both on the watch and on my Nexus 6. I'm sure a fix will roll out shortly.
I'm running 5.8.1836R of Google Play Music.

So, I know there's been a lot of video playback issues with the Nexus 7 over the years after upgrading to lollipop or marshmallow, but I never had any of those issues until getting the July security updates for marshmallow.
The problem I'm getting is this: video streaming playback stops working after about 15 minutes. Video works fine, but after watching a few in a row, online video stops working across all applications. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and embedded video on web pages, no matter the source, all stop working. I have to reboot to get it back. Having to reboot dozens of times a day to keep video working. There's another part of this bug... Sometimes, when playing video, if I close the application that is playing it the audio from the video will continue to play in a loop, even after closing the app and swiping it out of memory.
This has been happening for nearly 3 months, and I started calling nexus support about it shortly after it started. I got ahold of someone, who, when I explained the bug said "I know this problem. You have kernel 3.4.0-gad29d11 dated July 2nd" I checked, and he was correct. "The engineers know about this, and are working on a fix. It's a video driver issue in the kernel. It'll be fixed with the next update." Good enough for me. I got my August security updates (actually 2 updates in August) and the bug wasn't resolved. Called them back and got another guy who knew of the bug, and insisted it would be fixed in the next security update. I now haven't gotten any more updates since then. I got sick of waiting... 3 months with this problem... and decided to call nexus support again. After 2 days and 6+ hours on the phone, I can't get anyone at Google who knows about this bug. They are all insisting I have to get it fixed with Asus. Called Asus. They insist it's a software problem, and I have to get it fixed with Google.
Does anyone know how I can fix this? I know from Google it's an issue with this kernel, and the video drivers within. I'm not gonna hold my breath that google will fix it for me.
Google has discontinued updates of this device.
You can downgrade stock OS or upgrade to custom ROM.
I have no video issues on CM13 - 6.0.1
I was hoping to avoid going to a custom ROM, but if I have no other alternatives, I'd rather do that than downgrade the OS. Perhaps I'll wait until CM 14 is out for the n7. Very frustrating that this problem presents itself just a month before security updates are discontinued. Feels a little like planned obsolescence.
I was also thinking I could try flashing a different kernel only. ElementalX looks interesting, and I was thinking it might take care of my video driver issues. I'm a novice at this type of stuff, and I really only have experience rooting a couple other devices. I've never tried flashing a kernel or a custom ROM before. Anyone have suggestions?
Ever since I believe around the 3rd Android 9 beta update, pandora kept crashing on my Android Auto. I was hoping the full "street" version of 9 released yesterday would resolve this but it didnt. I also noticed the screen on my car blacking out at times and then coming back on during android auto. The problem is I can go a song or two on pandora and then it stops and says pandora inaccessible on the screen and then a new song starts playing. Sometimes, it will cut off 3 songs in a row within the first minute of each song. Its really frustrating and I cant tell if its a pandora thing or android auto thing. Used to think it was a beta thing but thats clearly not it anymore.
I do keep my phone in my cupholder area and was wondering if when the proximity or light sensor gets changed in there, would that affect anything? It didnt before, Im just wondering if theres any new settings that could be making that change.
My original pixel xl did that on the betas but I replaced that phone with a pixel 2 xl over the weekend and I haven't noticed it happening with the new phone.

I even tried turning off battery management in the app and lowering the audio quality like I read in a couple other places but neither worked. Its still crapping out and then starting a new song.
Just saw an update from AA so hopefully that works. Ill report back.
