Dual Messenger (WhatsApp + Contact Storage) High Battery Drain - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

I have recently done a fresh reset to factory default on my phone, and then installed apps. After that I have a strange high battery usage that it seems related to the 2nd WhatsApp that I've installed using the Dual Messenger feature. The battery usage shows that the "contact storage" is using ~25% of battery life, but the dual messenger app also shows the same, screenshots are attached.
When I uninstall the second WhatsApp it seems the problem gets fixed.
Couldn't find any solution for that. Just one post that was related to outlook, but I am not using outlook. Do you have any idea? Thank you (Please don't offer the reset to the factory as a solution!)

I don't trust that app or use it.
If you don't need it, don't load it.
Otherwise you can play with it's settings/notifications and try to tone it down.
If it looks like/acts like bugware, it's bugware...

It's Samsung's native system app not a third party application, and i need to have 2 personal WhatsApp accounts

Doesn't matter who's app it is.
A security risk too.

WhatsApp, Much prefer Telegram.

[Q] I have two apps that are failing to show background notifications.

I'm running CM 6.1 Stable. I have two apps installed that I have configured to provide me with background notifications: reddit is fun and Foursquare. Reddit is supposed to check for new messages hourly and Foursquare us supposed to check for friend updates every 10 minutes. Neither app is functioning in this regard.
Has anyone else had an issue like this? Is there by chance some setting that prevents 3rd party background notifications from working that I may have enabled by accident? Gmail notifications are still working.
I checked my system log for errors or anything unusual while enabling or disabling the Foursquare notification feature and there was nothing that I could see.
Do apps need to have a service running to provide this sort if functionality, or can the Android system simply let apps schedule periodic tasks? I ask because I don't see any services running for these two apps, and if they are required, that would be a problem.
try moving it back to ur phone not ur sdcard......

[Q] Facebook app - major battery drain

Has anyone experienced this before with the Facebook app? Something's throwing it for a loop! It only seemed to start with the latest app update. However, I am also using TeslaUnread with Nova Prime (I also use Pushbullet, but disabled the notification push for Facebook). Guess that's a place to start, disabling Tesla for Facebook and see where that takes me. The investigation continues, but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone else has seen this before with a similar config.

Use Greenify
Yep greenify
Thanks guys, will look into that.
Go into app settings in Facebook and disable sync and refresh time to never. That slows Facebook battery drain. Good luck

Yes, saw that one day. It was surprising just how bad it was. I uninstalled Facebook, reset, and reinstalled later. It's been fine since, but the problem may recur (I don't know why it happened in the first place).

I went ahead and set the app to never auto-refresh (looks like it doesn't affect the notifications, so that's good), since I don't need my news feed updating every hour when I can just do that when I go into the app. I've been just closing the app completely every time I'm done using it for the past few days, but I think I'll give it another go letting it run in the background, and see how it does. I did notice a couple other people mentioned bad Note 4 battery on the latest reviews in the Play Store.

[Q] Lollipop: Contact Pictures in 3rd Party Apps Not Showing After Update

I use Textra as my SMS app. On 4.4.4 Kit Kat, my AT&T Note 4 displayed contact pics pulled from Facebook in Textra. Yesterday, I updated, then factory reset the phone, then reinstalled all of my apps. Now Textra will not show any contact pictures, just their initials. The pis do come up in the contacts app and the Messages app.
I know that there was an issue with 3rd party apps having difficulty using facebook photos. But I thought that was an old issue. On Kit Kat, with no root or extra apps, Textra worked fine on my Note 4.
Have I missed a setting somewhere?
Dave
There were some strange problems with contact pictures not syncing on the nexus 5 and 6 on 5.0.1. The 5.1 update fixed these.
Not sure if this is the same problem, but thought i'd mention.
I use Textra as well and my Facebook contact photos show up just fine. You might have to relink your contacts or sync again in the Facebook app
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
FIXED!
I uninstalled Textra; and then reinstalled it. It is now working perfectly with all of the contact pics now showing.
Last night, I set up FB after using Textra. So I guess that was the problem. Good to know in case anyone else runs in to the problem.

Facebook messenger keeps dying

Hey! I'm having an issue with facebook messenger since the nougat update(I'm now on OOS 4.0.2) . After turning the screen off messenger and all of its services are killed(I checked in running services), including chathead service and messaging service. Unfortunately with no messaging service I can't receive any messages until I manually start the app. I updated through OTA without factory resetting, after the problem occurred I tried factory resetting but it didn't help. Does anyone know if this is a messenger problem or a nougat problem and of any possible fix?

Go to settings -> battery - > Aggressive doze and app hibernation -> find fb messenger and put it into not optimized app group.
I don't have aggressive doze turned on, also auto close high power usage apps is turned off.
I think your problem should be solved if you gonna use Facebook with chrome meanwhile. It's updating your news, messages and notifications in your statusbar. It's more battery friendly. Or use the app "swipe for Facebook". The official fb-app isn't the best choise - the battery drain is huge. @thalvadzhiev
I'm not sure the problem is connected to the main Facebook app, since I'm getting Facebook notifications(like if someone posted in a group), but I'm not getting messenger notifications.
Try to clear app data and cache of Messenger app, you won't lose your chats, only settings. Then login again and report here again
@thalvadzhiev do what @slmadmax said. It makes sure your messenger won't be killed.

I don't even have aggressive doze turned on. Also I've found that usually messenger survives through the night but once I start using it during the day it starts dying again. Since doze is on through the night and doesn't kill it maybe it is not the one that kills it during the day too.

Then Idk.. U can try it but if it still happens it might be a messenger issue.

Un-needed Apps

At this point , and coming from Samsung's, I don't think I'll root my phone. I've already uninstalled or disabled apps from the app drawer main list and none of the system apps.
I remember when I had the Samsungs and after rooting there were long lists of apps to uninstall.
It may be quite different for this phone but Is there such a list for the Pixel 2 ?
Thanks
Not really.
The benefits of stock android is lack of bloatware.
At this point it is just preferential.
I for instance freeze android messenger and use something else
Freeze with titanium backup as my phone is rooted.
But messenger is a decent app i wouldnt knock it.

I too, did the same. I use Verizon's Message +
It's as bare as it gets. Just disable whatever apps you'll never use. I disabled Gmail because I use Inbox. That's it for me.

So you never get any SMS messages at all? Or you have Google Voice and get your SMS in Hangouts?

I am on ProjectFI so I get to use Hangouts for everything still.
However, if messenger is thawed it gets in the way.
Sometimes AndroidAuto will use it.
Sometimes system messages will use it.
Multi Factor authentication messages always use it.
I dont so my message histories are fragmented.
Freezing Messenger resolves the issue.

Yeah I was that way before. I have Google Voice so I could use Hangouts for SMS but Messages works better for me especially if there's group messages. I actually don't use Hangouts anymore because I transitioned my most contacted friends and family to Allo/Duo.
