Because I spent a lot of time looking everywhere for AT&T firmware I could flash back on to my 837A, here it is for those looking for it.
Fair warning, I downloaded this off a site that seemed very untrustworthy. However it worked and I was still able to perform software updates on AT&T's amazing system...

So I tried updating while rooted, and found that that couldnt be done.
So I unrooted, and now when I check for updates, it says everything is up to date.
I have had this thing since launch, so I know theres a few updates to download.
If anyone can help that would be awesome.
I also did clear cache

I'm rather new to Android and rooting, but I've been rooted on my SGS3 since the beginning of July, so I've experienced several OTA notifications. I know you cannot apply an OTA when rooted, generally, but that most Developers will actually update their custom ROMs when a new OTA is pushed. That has been my experience thus far, and how I've "kept" my phone up-to-date. In the change logs you can usually identify which OTA their ROM is based on, and make your decision from that information. Also, I believe most OTAs are carrier-based and not necessarily intended to update the OS or UI, so some of them may not be necessary. The important thing is the baseband (modem) version, as this can directly impact your reception and data speed. There is an excellent tool intended strictly for flashing a new modem, developed by clark44. The link is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816530
I would suggest starting at the top of the list, running that modem for at least 2-3 days, then flashing the next one and repeating the process - until you find the one that works for your phone, in your area, based on the places you visit the most frequently.
I hope this helps.
My trusty N7100 had an allergic reaction to saltwater about 3 weeks ago. It only got the top of the phone but it shorted out and would freeze on the boot screen until the battery was pulled. I took it to a few shops here in the Philippines but wasn't much they could do. From the tear down vids, etc, I figured it needed a new board. I took it to Hong Kong for New Year's and a friend found a shop that was able to get it up and running for $100 but couldn't get any info on what work was done. The phone was still rooted/unlocked and worked on my prepaid HK data sim as well as my local carrier when I returned to the Philippines two days ago. But it was showing as "Modified" in device status and wouldn't do OTA updates. I decided to flash it from 4.1 to 4.3 with ODIN and now its "Not Registered on Network".
Looks like a common error for the 4.3 upgrade but after hours of research, I'm in the dark as to the best path forward. IMEI, s/n, etc., in device status have remained unchanged and show out of the box numbers (the one thing I did record. Based on the below I am trying to figure out if I should be flashing Globe Philippines rom's or HK rom's... or just need to change to a HK modem?
Before the dunking:
Philippines Globe phone. I bought it in Oct2012, rooted it to unlock but that's about it. Unfortunately it was my first Android phone and I didn't record the system specs anywhere. I have some Titanium BU's but no images (doh)
After resuscitation in Hong Kong, everything was all good (but I didn't make a recovery image of this either = doh x2):
Android 4.1.1
Baseband N7100XXALJ2
Kernel: 3.0.31-343940
Build: JR003C.N7100ZSALJ7
I flashed the ROM with what I thought was the recommended 4.3 stock rom for Philippines Globe. I have Wi-Fi but can't connect to mobile networks. I tried three different sims for two different carriers.
Android 4.3
Baseband: N7100XXUEMK1
Kernel: 3.0.31-2229877
Build: JSS15J.N7100XXUEML3
This one has got me stumped as I'm not sure what flavor my phone is after its organ transplant. Now that its mostly alive, I could take it back over to the boys at the mall but that would be too easy. Thanks for any help. I've been a lurker on here since I first looked at buying this phone and have learned a lot from this site.
I'm running ODIN via Virtualbox with a Kubuntu host and W7 guest.
Sorry for long winded question... really just need point in right direction. Try switching modems? If so which one? Or just reflash with HK stock ROM? Thanks!
I'm not so sure if this will work but try to reflash again but before that wipe data 1st then followed by wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache.
Thanks! Before I saw this reply, I tried flashing to latest HK version of 4.3 - N7100ZSUEML1 with no success but didn't wipe caches. Rooting failed this morning but I read up on here that doing the factory reset is supposed to flash the davlik. After reading this, I did the factory reset/wipe and then wiped the cache and reflashed ZSUE with ODIN3. After I got the language switched from Chinese to English, I was hopeful as I went through set up process of "new" phone but no dice. I was going to try to flash back to N7100ZSALJ7 but I didn't back it up and can't scare up that ROM on the net. I have found a HK 4.1.2 version (N7100ZSDMA4) that I may try but after three days of solid computer time, I'm getting tempted to just take it down to the guys at the mall and see what they can do. Being a Kubuntu user for several years, I'm used to solving my tech problems on the net but still low on the Android food chain and committed cardinal sin #1, always have a viable backup. There is a lot of great information on here and the net in general but with so many variants of phones, ROM's, regions, etc., it is hard to find the right needle in this haystack!
I'm down but not out so if anyone has anymore suggestions, I'm all ears. IMEI, etc., are still in tact. I'm wondering if I'm running into the regional issue. I was reading up on the Note 3 and thought I remember seeing something that said Sammy might roll regional coding backwards along with Knox. With an "official" 4.3 running on this Note 2, I've got Knox now. So turning a new ROM on in the Philippines for the first time with a HK board could possibly be the issue but I think that's a dark horse as its unlocked and my new Note 3 isn't having regional issues after I unlocked it (but I unlocked the Note 2 with root and unlocked the Note 3 the easy way - via $ and the IMEI for unlock code. I'm missing something easy. I've got good signal strength. I can see all the usual suspects here under Mobile Networks/Network Operators - Globe, Sun, Smart. It even says I'm registered on Globe when I click on it. But when I try for mobile data or to make a call, "Not Registered on Network".
Thanks for any and all help.
My ATT locked, unrooted Note 4 (N910A) is stuck on Android 5.0.1 (....CU2COC6).
All attempts to update thru ATT's update function fail.
My suspicion is that I ran out of memory when it was time to do the next update after 5.0.1 and I have now missed several -- so many, in fact, that I can no longer even upgrade to the oldest version necessary to upgrade to 6.0.1.
I now have plenty of memory.
I went to the ATT store and they said I needed to go to Best Buy to have someone "flash" the update. I went to Best Buy and it seems that the Samsung reps are similar to magic unicorns -- they might very well exist but nobody knows when you might be able to catch one in the wild.
Is there any way I can take care of this myself without having to root the phone or do a factory reset? Any tutorial on "flashing" with a link to version 6.0.1?
TIA!

Yes there is! It's on the front page! And it is called tutorial upgrade to marshmallow. U need to install Odin and windows samsung drivers. All links to tools are in it. Just follow the instructions to a t.
Some time ago I loaded a firmware onto my VZW S8+ (G955U) which I thought was a legitimate firmware. However, I've never been able to update the phone since. The firmware that I loaded was CRE1 and since loading that, no OTA updates have occurred and even trying to use the VZW update tool, I get an error saying no update for that firmware or something to that effect.
I assume that I would need to flash back to a base version 8 firmware and then see how things go from there but I haven't been able to locate a base v8 firmware - assuming that is the direction I need to go.
Can anyone advise? The phone is not rooted. I did see one other similar thread with CRE1 firmware from 2018 - I can try downloading the closest firmware to CRE9 that I can find, which is CRK9, and see if I can get it to load.
Other suggestions/ideas are welcome!
[UPDATE]
So I essentially followed another post here and using Odin 3.13.1 I loaded CRK1, the oldest I could find that was near CRE1, and the phone came back up and pretty much immediately notified of an OTA update. About 12 or so OTA updates later and I'm at the current OTA release.
I'm having the same issue. I bought a VZW S8+ (G955U) from eBay Seller mistyelectronics that was supposed to be new in box. It has never updated since I received it almost a year ago. It stuck on Software Version G955USQS5DSE5. Any insight or advice to go the same route? I used Odin years ago. Where would I look for the files to load to the phone?
I appreciate any help you can give.
It's been over 10 years since I flashed a custom ROM or any firmware to a phone using odin, and I remember it being super simple. I'm getting back into the swing of things with this new phone and having a hard time finding any resources about what I'm looking for.
So, my CSC region is ATT using the software info method (or OYN using *#1234# method), the model is sm-s908u and it's unlocked, and I've been looking for firmware for that combo so I can manually upgrade my phone to one UI 5.0 android13, but the latest one online hasn't been updated - ONE UI 4.1 android 12, even though there are updates for other carriers. My phone also won't update because I'm not on the ATT network. I think I can maybe go into an ATT store and using their sim to get the OTA, but I'd rather do this by my self first.
So this is a three-part question:
1. Can I switch my CSC region so that I'm not associated with ATT but rather Tmobile? And if that's possible, will I be able to get OTA?
2. Can I pick any firmware with sm-s908u and just flash it to my phone regardless of the CSC?
3. Is there a way to accomplish what I want without wiping my phone? I can do backup, but I'm a bit tired of starting my phone from scratch.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks. Man 10 years I was on here, so many memories. The community is as strong as ever!
