So a few months after the phone was released, I was able to flash onto the original unbranded firmware without bloat and whatnot, but was still somehow able to keep VoLTE and Wifi-Calling from the CSC features.
I'm still on bootloader V1 and would like to keep it that way if at all possible. Is there a way for me to upgrade to Oreo with the same bootloader version? Second, I have no idea how CSC codes work to enable features, so how much would I be able to customize? I'm on T-Mobile's network and my phone's unlocked. Finally, is there a way to keep/backup my app data? I'm pretty sure Odin will wipe data on a new flash, but was wondering if there was an alternative.
I'd appreciate any advice on how to proceed. Thanks!
Hi All,
My apps are updating fine and i see that android 10 has been out for a few months now yet my Note10+ SM-N975U is not updating at all. it seems my security patches are still stuck on august 2019 and every time i try to OTA update, it says my phone us up to date. Is there anyway to bypass this. I see everyone saying to use Odin to update my phone but i am not familiar with the program and where/how to source the note 10 update
Id greatly appreciate the help as its affecting many of my apps

+1 for me. Ive spent almost 2 years and 3 phones trying to get an answer to this. My note 8 had this problem, then my note 10+, then the replacement note 10+. At&t blames Samsung, then Samsung blames at&t, over and over and over. I even had a Samsung technician sit in on a 3 way call with an at&t technician for the better part of an hour. The last I heard was that at&t was petitioning samsung to fix something on their end because at&t shows that everything is up to date on my phone but its not. Im looking into Odin too because this is getting stupid.
At&t is horrible with OTA's. They work for some but for a lot of people it does not, and I am one of them. At&t has never been able to give me an answer as to why this happened on my Note 8..9..and 10+.
Odin is very easy. You dont have to use At&t firmware you can use any Snapdragon US firmware they are the same. Once its installed, it will provision to you sim. There are many threads that have the firmware needed or just us Frija to download the firmware. Once downloaded you need to extract the files. You will have BL..AP..CP..CSC...HOME_csc. You need to download the correct version of Odin to flash the firmware. Open Odin put device in download mode connect device. Once odin recognizes devices find where you extracted the firmware. In odin put BL in BL spot..AP in AP spot..CP in Cp spot. If you want to save data, put HOME_csc in CSC spot. If you want clean install put CSC in CSC spot as it will wipe device. Once you have everything where it should be click start and Odin will flash the firmware. Once complete Odin will say PASS at top left..boot time should take a few minutes. But remember if the firmware you flash has a higher bootloader you cant downgrade back to previous version.

So I can use a verizon csc and it will work on a att branded phone? Or is a generic one better?
Edit
Basically which one do you pick. I'm leaning towards a tmobile because it sounds like the included bloatware is smaller.
I have At&t device purchased at At&t. I have used USC..Tmobile..Verizon. The device will provision to your sim. If you dont want bloat just flash U1 firmware. But I think you will lose advanced features like wifi calling if you do. I cant remember if flashing a (U) csc with U1 firmware brings back advanced features. But prob just stick with 1 firmware until you have a understanding on how to do this...Good luck.

I actually went ahead and did this last night with the tmobile firmware and it was just as easy as you said. For whatever reason I didn't even get any bloatware. It booted up with the at&t logo and sound, and my software version says att/att/att. I put my sim card back in and there were no special notifications or anything, everything just worked. I wonder if Frija gave me the att firmware despite me putting in tmb? Either way, everything is up to day now. Thanks for the help!
Anytime my friend glad it all worked out[emoji106]

Hi I have the same problem. I flashed android 10 One UI 2.0 on my Exynos Note10+ SM-N975F last December via Odin and download the firmware from Samfrew(like Sammobile).(the firmware is the German version and I bought my phone from Egypt) Since then I didn't receive any security patch updates I only have the December 2019 one. Will it be safe if I download the latest firmware from Sammobile and flash it; the file in over 5GB , can this overwrite? I never tried to flash the same software two times. Is it safe?
As long as you are using the firmware that is for your device and your region you should be fine. Although this is Snapdragon thread I would think International flashing is same. You may want to double check in your device specific thread as I don't want to be the blame if there is something different with F version.

Also try turning off auto update date and time. Set date like 5days ahead. Then check for update. Sometimes this little trick works for OTA

Yes,i have u1 version and i receive update regulary,now waiting for oneui 2.1 [emoji3]
Hi, this is my first post/question. Sorry if it's a dumb one.
I'm in the UK and I have a Galaxy Note 10+ (SM-N976B).
The phone is from Vodafone (was locked to Vodafone) and is the Exynos (EU/UK) chip version of the phone.
It is currently on the 01-Mar-2020 patch level with One UI 2.0.
Now that I have officially unlocked it from Vodafone (Vodafone sent me the unlocked codes and they worked - I am now using it with a non-Vodafone SIM ), I wanted to know if I still have to wait for the Vodafone firmware release of One UI 2.1 (which I know is out for other Galaxy S10/Note10 variants); OR, whether I can get an "unlocked"? version of the One UI firmware for Exynos Note 10+ phones?
What is the normal policy regarding carrier locked [Samsung] phones that have been officially unlocked - are you still tied to the original carrier's timetable of firmware/security-patch releases for the phone?
Regards,
psb01
you will still be on Vodafone's software and release schedule, I have an unlocked phone in the UK direct from Samsung and the update is already out for a phone using the standard software, Vodafone were always slow on updates, had this problem way back with the Nexus phones taking that long to update through Vodafone i ended up rooting and flashing the original software.
so unless you can flash the standard software from the unlocked phones you are likely stuck on Vodafone's time table, unfortunately I haven't had to flash a different firmware on mine so I'm unable to help on if it's actually possible to move away from the Vodafone software.
Yes, you should be able to dl the but firmware and flash.
Look through the news section for the N976b fw posts. In there are all the links you need and very detailed instructions.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, it is useful to know this.
I may have to look into getting an proper factory unlocked version if Vodafone don't pull their finger out for One UI 2.1 by end-May-2020.
Yes, I agree, Vodafone do seem to be slow on these things.
I will look into whether it's possible to replace my Vodafone firmware with official factory-unlocked firmware now my phone is officially unlocked.
(However, I don't want to have a rooted phone permanently as my banking apps won't work on it if it's rooted.)

You can download the latest BTU version of the firmware using either Samfirm or Frija and flash it to your phone using Odin. You will then receive over the air updates as they are released. This is NOT rooting your phone and all banking apps will work as they should.

AHH, okay. So I assume "BTU version" is the factory-unlocked version that phones direct from Samsung come with?
Also, will doing this wipe all my data and leave me with a factory-fresh phone (with latest firmware/OS) that I have to set up from scratch?
If so, could I backup my phone's data (in its entirety - calls, SMS, apps & data) that I can restore after the firmware flash? What backup method is recommended?
(I used to have Pixels before my Note 10+ and I am used to using the Google's backup to GDrive. I note now with Galaxy phones that they want to backup to Samsung's [cloud drive?] own area/method and don't do Google backups. I use my Google apps/services quite a lot and don't rely/use Samsung's services where I can avoid them.) Any advice for me in this regards?
I don't mind trying this method, but I'm worried about bricking my Note 10+ or losing all my setup/data. I'm not familiar with flashing phones but I can follow basic tech instructions. I'm guessing if it doesn't work I can re-install the Vodafone OS/firmware back on it to bring it back to how it is now?
Thanks.

BTU is the UK unlocked version of the firmware. You can back everything up to Google just like you're used to. Go to settings, accounts and backup, backup and restore, Google account, Back up now.
You'll get the chance to restore it at startup if you do a full factory reset. If you don't get the option, you can restore from the same place.
When you download the file from Frija you will see 5 files. You only use 1 of the CSC files. You use HOME_CSC to keep your data and the other CSC file if you want to do a complete wipe and start again.
There is a really good guide in messages 1&2 of the following thread but be aware that this is not for our phone. Replace the input values in Frija to SM-N976B and BTU.
https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/to...2&share_fid=3793&share_type=t&link_source=app
Finally, you probably won't be able to reflash the Vodafone firmware until after it gets updated as I'm pretty sure that they've updated the bootloader and you can't downgrade that.
Good luck

Many thanks for this. It will give me a mini-project to do during this lock-down.
I think, for safety, I'm going to go back to my old Pixel so I don't risk any data and use that while I try this method to update the Note 10+.
I think I prefer the total wipe option, so there's nothing on the phone that shouldn't be there, from the start.
If it all works, I'll transfer back all my data over to the Note 10+ using the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app.
At least having a UK unlocked firmware means I'll get future updates and security patches quicker.

glad to see someone who could help more came along. hope you get it sorted.
Context: I have a Verizon branded Note 10+, trying to use a Mint mobile connection. Wi-fi calling doesn't work, connection speed is atrocious, but everything works swimmingly out of the box when I put the same SIM in my unlocked Pixel. I am quite sure my Note 10+ is unlocked because it is fully paid off and well past the 60 day period, and more importantly because the Mint SIM DOES work in it, just very poorly.
So it's quite evident that I have to flash TMB firmware to get a serviceable reception.
Trying to follow the steps outlined here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/how-to/n975u-n975u1-firmware-links-t3957648
Based on what I understand I have to flash unbranded firmware first and then my desired carrier firmware which is T-Mobile. Can someone please help me understand what firmware I should be looking for?
My current baseband version N975USQU3CTE7.
My question is when downloading through Frija, should I be looking for SM-N975U1 (VZW) firmware or SM-N975U1 (XAA) firmware for the first step? Or can I use either?
I have moved a Note 10+ from it's original T-Mobile firmware to Verizon and then back, so hopefully, I can explain this process easier then that original bloody guide (which I pulled my own hair out over). To perform the operation ONE WAY, you must have an activated SIM card on the target carrier.
First thing you want to do is perform a full backup for all of your files, as they may get wiped during this process (and more than likely will). I used Samsung's backup to an SDCard I inserted into mine. Remove the SIM Card from the phone before starting this process. You may also wish to remove your Samsung account and any security codes/methods you have when flashing. That might be too much, but I always do it just encase things go wrong for some reason.
Obtain the newest firmwares using SamFirm (currently 0.5.0). If you cannot find a Region in the drop-down listing, just type the three letter code manually into the region box to search for it (this is how I obtained the USC firmware for the SM-N975U1). You want the universal SM-N975U1 Firmware (USC), and the target SM-N975U T-Mobile firmware or whatever other carrier you want to target(yes, U only).
At the time of me typing this, the SM-N975U1 USC firmware is N975U1UES4CTF2 dated 07/06/2020, and the SM-N975U TMB firmware is newer, being N975USQS4CTF3 07/27/2020. It is fine that the TMobile firmware is newer, just realize that flashing FORWARD to newer firmware works, but flashing firmware BACKWARDS is impossible. sammobile[DOT]com has a list of firmwares with PDA and CSC, so you can confirm there what firmware codes are newer then others. (I don't recommend downloading roms from them, unless you feel like shelling out money! I did have to use this site to get the non-U VZW firmware) This, in particular, makes it a pain to flash TO Verizon, as their firmware is typically a month behind everyone else. Ideally, you want the baseband versions of all of the ROM's to match perfectly, but this can be difficult to do as they are always changing.
The last time I performed this, which was only a few months ago before selling one of my Note 10 Plus's, I used Odin3.13.3 3B PatcheD.
Use Oden to flash the U1 USC firmware. Start the phone up with airplane mode off and no sim card. Insert the SimCard and you should see a popup that says "reboot to apply new carrier settings." Reboot the phone and ensure that things are working okay at that point. If you did not see this message, shut down the phone with no sim card and attempt again until you see the message. If you do not see this message, the carrier settings will not apply and you will not be able to flash the target SM-N975U firmware. You can verify this worked correctly by navigating to Settings=>Software Information=>Service provider SW ver. You should see something like "VZW/VZW/TMB" in your particular case. The first two will always be the original hardware's carrier, and the last one should be your target carrier to proceed.
After ensuring you have the correct carrier settings, flash the target firmware of your choice. Using Odin. It is normally important to flash the HOME CSC to get all of the carrier specific stuff, this may include wifi calling settings and software, but I am unsure (this is the main reason you backup the phone). This is the step that will clean wipe your phone in my experience.
To anyone later reading this, from the research I did when I first did this months ago... note that switching the carrier firmware may not make all of that carriers features work. I remember reading that people still could not get AT&T Wifi calling to work, even after contacting AT&T and getting the phone put on the wifi calling whitelist. I don't think Verizon and T-Mobile have those particular issues.
If you ever want to flash the phone back to it's original firmware for any reason, you MUST obtain a SIMCard from that carrier, otherwise you will be stuck!

Years ago, I had the same issue with a Note 2,an AT&T version, but using it on another network (T-Mobile).
I had to go so far as to getting a month's worth of service w/pre-paid AT&T to connect to their servers to pull the update. Same a bit later with an LG device.
Fast forward to a year or two ago & some state this isn't necessary, but, it sounds like the same is holding true for you.
My suggestion is to find someone with an active AT&T SIMCard, see if you can borrow it to pull the update.
Another suggestion is to use Samsung's desktop PC tool Smart Switch, see if that works.
Otherwise, I'm stumped, unless you're familiar with Odin & someone here can locate the latest firmware to flash.
This should help with why your encountering difficulty finding (and a way to obtain) AT&T firmware.
